today three awesome and need-to-know uses of the transparency window in

the first result with today's transparency window tutorial a

non-destructive way to add a decent shadow and shading to your design there

are three techniques in total in today's video so follow along and let's make

good use of the transparency window in adobe illustrator we obviously need some

text for the first transparency window effect so you can press command or

control T to bring up the character window and the font I'm going to use

today is my very own custom font script Satori we can find the transparency

window here in the sidebar but it's also located up in the top drop down menu

under transparency we can drag the transparency window out like so which

just makes our life that much more easier when working illustrator we're

going to create outlines today and then choose a color for your text I'm gonna

go for a nice calming blue keeping things nice and peaceful

finally press M for the rectangle tool and then generate a square like so

we do this so we can relate back to the original color anytime throughout the

tutorial now we want to lock down the lettering so it doesn't move around

throughout the video and then zoom in to have a better scope of the first

technique we're going to use the pen tool to draw a shape out like so if you

have the straighter CC you can hold down the option key and adjust the curve like

so but if you don't just press a to the direct selection tool and adjust the

handles this shape is effectively going to be in my shadow along the leg of my

letter I and so next we're going to want to flick the stroke over to a fill and

add a gradient to that fill in the gradient window we're going to make the

first color black and then white however on the white side of the gradient we

want to make the opacity down to 0% and this is so the gradient blends nicely

along the contour now you need to take the gradient tool from the tool bar and

then draw the gradient to match your lettering next we're going to finally

utilize the power of the transparency window for the first of three effects

today unlock the letter and then copy the

letter with command or control see you then need to press command ctrl + Shift

+ + me this will paste a copy right over the top next hold down Shift + click the

top letter and then also the gradient as well and then in the transparency window

you simply click make a mask for this technique and leave the settings as they

are later we're going to be using different setting for different

techniques we're now going to make the gradient more match to the color of the

letter by selecting the square and copying the RGB color mode at the bottom

of the color window so copy that with command or ctrl C and then select the

shadow gradient within selected head into the gradient window and proceed to

double click the color swatch change the mode to RGB and then paste in the RGB

color code into the box with command or control V you can then go ahead and

increase the black value swatch number like so

finally change the other side of the slider to the same blue

however this side is 0% opacity so it's just going to blend the overall shadow

perfectly into the letter

and there is the first of three awesome techniques for the transparency window

let's move on to the next techniques in today's tutorial here I have more text

but also have a brush stroke you can download various different vector

strokes and shapes online our websites like vector Z or free pick which I'll

link down below in description first off copy your vector shape and then select

the lettering open the transparency window and click a make mask click the

right-hand window and then paste in the vector shape with command or control V

now it's just a case of moving around the vector shape until you're completely

half of the design you can add multiple vector shapes into the same set of

letters with this method also you can go back and edit the text anytime you want

changing the letters and the fonts

you can have lots of fun with this technique and of course it works on all

objects not just texts he can be used to make grunge and old style designs too so

experiment and have some family final use of the transparency window in

Illustrator is utilizing blend modes I will very quickly show you a crude

example if I make a circle with the ellipse tool and then copy with command

or control C I can paste it directly over the original one with command or

control F

I want to cut out a section of the new circle by using a third circle like so

simply heading into the Pathfinder window and then clicking the minus for

an option so the final result is having a crescent

shape over the top of a full circle

the illustrator transparency window has blend modes most likely debut Photoshop

but the illustrator blend modes are obviously going to result with a vector

design you can have lots of thumb the blend modes too and if you stack

multiple objects using blend modes upon each other you can make some very

interesting designs indeed next I'm going to show you guys PDF element which

is a great way to navigate use and also convert PDFs in your graphic design

workflow although there are many PDF editors out there there are very few

that offer such a wide scope for editing PDFs and such as PDF element I'm going

to show you some really awesome features of PDF element right now

PDF element is functional and available on both Windows and Macintosh when you

open a PDF with PDF elements you can literally go in edit your text it's

simple and straightforward to do and right off the bat this is a feature that

I know many people and designers wish they would have with their PDF viewers

you can edit the wording itself but you can also go in and do things like add a

bold effect change the color as well as many other options that you can see in

the tool by now

you can also click and drag imagery and parts of your design around your

document like so it couldn't be easier

there are also some options here which will allow you to add a watermark to

your PDF design crop the PDF link various different things have much much

more we head into the paid section here you're going to be met with the layout

of your PDF document which you can rotate around the pages if need be

and you can even simply rearrange the order of your pages with one click and

youtube.com so in the top right corner of your screen you'll see ur u2 icon

slash avatar you want to press on that and once you are pressed on that you

will see various numbers of option you want to press on the option called my

channel once you have pressed on my channel it will open up your channel

home page now once you're on your channel home page you want to click on

this options called playlists now you can see there's no option for creating

playlists but just stick around so once you scroll up you will see a option

called customize channel you want to press on that option called customize

the channel and it will load you back to the old YouTube layout for a couple of

seconds not forever for a couple of seconds now once you are on this old

YouTube layout page and you have your sales page open you can see that there

is an option called new playlist you want to press on this new playlist

option right over here and then you want to give your playlist name so I'm gonna

leave it best for mine Anika's oncreate and as you can see

you're back into the new YouTube layout and you have successfully now created a

playlist called test now you can add descriptions to

your playlists by pressing on edit and they will load you back to the old

YouTube layout and you can just click on add a description and I'm just gonna put

this test now how do you actually put videos into this first well there's an

option called add videos right over here on the right side of the screen and you

want to press on add videos and in this place you can add a videos from video

search of YouTube or from a custom URL from a video or you can add your own

videos to this playlist I have no video scrumpy so it says no

videos found but if you have hopefully videos on your channel it will show for

your videos on this page now you can do URL and YouTube search and you know you

can add videos that way so for an example I'm just gonna go and search up

Derral Eve's and as you can see here this video started popping up now I'm

gonna select this video called 500k thank you and I'm gonna add that video

to this playlist now that is just one video you can add an unlimited amount of

videos to this playlist and organize that now I'm gonna add another video to

show you how you can organize this playlist so here I'm gonna select a few

videos and I'm gonna press an and views and now you can see all these videos are

added now I can organize that no one's true mouse cursor is on a video you want

to put on the top probably you can put your mouse cursor on the video and on

the left side you'll see a number which indicates which rank it is on this

playlist and on the side of that number you will see some dots and you can just

drag this right up or in the middle of where you want to place it and the

numbering change according to where you place it and that's how you create a

playlist add videos to a playlist and organize the playlist and also add a

description to the playlist in the new YouTube layout

how important things are to them how what importance they give not only to

physical things how much importance they gave to situations and what happens or

doesn't happen or a circumstance or how much power they place their in in the

world of form and it always they expect something from it that only the formulas

can give they expect to find themselves somewhere in there they expect happiness

through the world of form it can give you happiness briefly and then it takes

it away so you become dependent on what happens or doesn't happen and sometimes

it's the littlest the tiniest things that would make people unhappy and they

impossible expectation that people place on the world this fulfil me make me

happy the world means places people situations circumstances doesn't matter

all that means the world so they make these they have these expectations and

demands and no place no person no situation no circumstance can meet those

demands for long and this is why life is experienced by

most humans as very frustrating almost designed by some D some devious God to

frustrate you and many people experience their life as it's designed to frustrate

me continuously I've tried so hard and always something happens to firstly

frustrate me of course there is an impossible team and being

placed upon the phenomenal universe and that demand is not only make me happy

because true happiness in the deepest sense is simply knowing yourself who you

are beyond the forms is true and lasting joy and happiness but they are looking

for happiness through some imagined configuration of forms when my life when

those forms in my life those circumstances people places are in a

right configuration then it will be fine and it could even happen that for a

brief moment they are in the right configuration you just moved to a

beautiful new home you just fell in love and the stock markets just gonna happen

and you're short the doctor says to you are the most healthy you have the host

healthy body I've ever seen everything is just right

and then probably you would claim the ego would claim some marriage or

achievement it would say I did that and because the world of form or the forms

look solid this is the illusion when you walk around especially in a city the the

solid structures in man mate the solidity of everything form look so

solid and that's an illusion we don't realize that the world of form is very

much like vapour or mist this is know that - they know that there's nothing

solid here even the most solid building can collapse in a moment the most

grandest edifice whether it be an office building or temple can collapse at any

moment sometimes they do so they appear the apparent or solidity of form is an

illusion to anybody who hasn't been to India I recommend at least going there

once to experience that the physical universe the solidity of the physical

universe is an illusion in India it's much easier to know that because things

are not that solid in the physical realm

things could go wrong at any moment and play

and it's beautiful and this may be the reason why India has produced the

greatest sages from the very very first

spiritual awakening of humanity happened there perhaps because the physical realm

is less solid or the illusion is less the illusion of solidity is less there

than here so because of the illusion of solidity that's you believe that there

can be something permanent in the phenomenal realm but very quickly here

two things saved change leave you or make you unhappy today it makes you

happy tomorrow it makes you unhappy that

beautiful position that you got the hospital wife makes you happy then makes

you unhappy anybody who has been through more than one marriage and even those

who still in one marriage know that the person who makes you happy is also the

person who makes you unhappy so the demands that people place upon the

manifested world are impossible make me happy and when that the only way when

that demand is dropped and some day this dropping this letting go of that

demand can happen when the world has totally frustrated you totally so much

has gone wrong so to speak which means not really wrong but against the

expectations against what I wanted and needed that you let go of any further

expectations not in a negative sense because if you let go of any further

expectations in a negative sense that means then you are saying who cares I

don't want to know anymore I'm I'm done with the world you're not there's still

a lot of attachment but but a true letting go when perhaps you even smile

or laugh come it's all crumbled one months again it's and no further

expectations are placed upon the manifest state then suddenly you senses

enormous peace what is that everything has gone wrong and yet there's this deep

sense of rightness so that can happen in cases where people become totally

frustrated it can also happen in a spiritual teaching to see when you are

ready to see that readiness is there because the frustrations have already

been there you wouldn't have come otherwise that's already been there and

then suddenly you see the demands and part of the

once very essential part of this demand that is placed upon the phenomenal world

is the demand that the future should make you happy because that is very the

next moment the need for the next moment and it is a

great act of letting go when the psychological need for the next moment

is relinquished that's always an essential part of coming to an end of

placing expectations because every expectation that you placed on the world

to some extent implies future

and so it's a wonderful thing that demands that are made upon places people

or situations or circumstances are not there and then you are comfortable with

places as they are because no matter what place you go to it could be ideal

in your imagination when you actually get there something will be there that

is not ideal any whatever place you go to and person and circumstance and

that's the thing that frustrates you and that amount is not made anymore

it could be a simple thing even a demands you place upon people understand

me he doesn't understand me my parents don't understand me

my children don't understand me so is that so bad they understand what they

can't understand their stage of evolution they understand just enough

for them to understand they are okay with not understanding

you don't realize that nothing is added to you by having somebody understand you

accepts a psychological thought form that see then say oh it's confirmation

that I exist he's confirmed that I exist what is that existence that needs

confirmation that you exist or confirmation of the world some people

think they need fame fame is totally overrated there's nothing in it that's

why some famous actors are interested in this teaching they realized how empty

that thing is called Fame if Fame fulfilled them would they come to this

teaching what for they are fulfilled by Fame by recognition everybody recognizes

how beautiful or great they are source isn't that fulfilling know you think

it's fulfilling when you don't have it and when you have it it's fulfilling for

a little moment and then it's no longer fulfilling and you see it's another way

of finding this dimension one way is being totally frustrated and getting

nothing another way is getting everything and being totally frustrated

and some famous actors go to drugs they don't they try to

deaden the frustration that they feel which ultimately is a form of pain they

tried to deaden it that way famous people many have been very unhappy

committed suicide but some others see that so it doesn't really matter whether

it's through achieving everything or achieving nothing you find it for most

of you it's kind of a mixture you've perhaps experienced success to some

extent and failure to some extent and you have experienced success turning

into its opposite

okay this one's gonna be a story about me

I'm a little bit lost

never thought I'd be here two and a half thousand K's

5 years of trying to work out where I am

and whats gone on, whats eventuated, whtas happened

there's no sense to it I've never worked it out

the day of the accident but was

was absolutely shattering

like just everything had drained out of my body

I'm even feeling it

Sorry I'm gonna have to stop the interview for a sec

so yeah a bit shocked about that and

obviously another condition he's got to deal with and

Brad's that type of person that he feels

he doesn't want to burden people with his own problems you know

you know but

being Brad you know the skateboarder from way back your tough as nails mate

it's uh it's a game changer when you know things in your life are taken

away from you and you can't get them back

people that realize sometimes

situations..

.are out of your control

the only thing about coming the Cairns is my brother.

That's why I come here

I come up to see how he's doing and he's go'n he's go'n better than what I thought

he's doing good this this trip I've seen I've seen Brad blossoming more than

what he has before before he was be cut off and a bit shut down

he seems to be

to be coming back to the old Brad which is good

Thats what I want. I just want my Bro back

But yeah, when you get up here, the fishing and the scenery

Its just a bonus

an absolute bonus. who would want to come to a place like this

he needed a bit of peace and he got it at Mirriwinni when he went up there

but now, I don't think that.....

he's accepting still what happened to Sue,

and I don't think he ever will

I think the still feels like he's failed.

So he's fishing to get the biggest fish and

riding to get the best ride, you know what I mean?

So he isn't failing

the only real time so I do see glimmers of the happy-go-lucky larrikin Brad

is ...when he surrendered more loved ones mate, it's the only time you seem to see the

real Brad again but even then you know it only takes the

slightest thing not to go right

and it just ruins him.

it..I mean don't get me wrong, it's magic eh when he is having a good day

what not...

....but

yeah..don't get to see em anywhere near as often as as you did

and absolutely nothing used to phase him, he always had a small joke

or someth'n cheeky to say to anyone

I think he wants to be here.

five years ago he'd come down from

Mirrawinni, he'd driven down in the van to get that snowboard break thing from a

guy in Sydney

when he was leaving

....his.....

battery was flat

and he started getting

it out

and he just I was standing out

there and he just walked over to me an

put his arms around me and started crying his eyes out

I said to him "Mate it's only a battery"

"We'll go and get another one, don't worry about it"

and he just looked

at me and said I just wanted to be so happy but I left he I wanted to be happy

I wanted you to be happy to see me happy

and now this has happened

why do things always happen to bring me down

He settled down we went and got the

battery, put it in the car and off he went

he was smiling when he left

I don't know if it was a false smile or a...I don't know.

I don't think it was.

take one day at a time

do what the doctor tells me of course. Eat properly,

try and stay physically fit

That's how I do it,

stay fit, stay healthy, stay happy

make yourself positive every day wake up

every morning and find something you want to do

and even if you can't do it

find the next best thing

at that time I said to him "Bradley why don't you just

come home.... please just come home... and whatever you want to do we'll work

something out" you know

and he's gone "No" and I said it will give me a reason why

ya can't come down and he said because I failed

I said to him "What do you mean you failed?"

and he said well I was up there with Sue we had to

big plans

he said Sue was taken from me everything is gone...

...and I've just failed

I think Brad's gonna find it a little bit hard when I'm gone

it's been a been good

to be able to bounce things up each other like we used to do chat and talk

and have someone to go fishing with

it'll only be a matter of time and I'll

be back up here to see him.

I want to come up here at least once a year

I haven't raced in many years,

since the accent basically,

there was one event

I turned up to

it was very hard

it was a 40 kilometer an hour race down a 50

meter hill between witches hats and it was just a fun little day out for everybody

everybody I still remember my friend Craig coming to pick me up

to take me to the event

Craig said all I want you to do today is have a bit of fun Brad I

don't want you to ride fast I don't want you to I just want you to have fun and

just enjoy the people around you and remember what you started street luge for

I walked around in my leather suit for about three hours and didn't want to

lay down on the board

and it's the view

I haven't seen the

world from that veiw since the accident

and I'm nervous about getting down lying

on a street luge and just looking past my feet again and remembering what I

seen last time I did that

so of course I took me time on the first two runs

I was very shaky I remember being very nervous at the top

riding down the hill of course I wrote down the hill no problems at all

straight round the finish line and the fastest time of the day

I think he's scared

I think he's scared to race again

When bathurst was on...this year

he said to Karl "I want to come down and race at Bathurst"

but I'm gonna call in at Mums he said and we'll

leave together in your car

and go to Bathurst and Karl said

"Why do you want me to go?"

and Bradley said cuz if anything happens to me I want my family there

but he didn't end up going

I think he wanted to go

but I think there were

too many negatives in his way, thoughts in his head

What if something does happen to me?

Bathurst is a, it's a serious track you know you

you can't

sort of break concentration whether you're standing up downhill or luging or

anything it's not a..not a forgiving place.

I had a mate he broke two

vertebrae last year in the Dipper and he's had to have a back operation and you

don't want to see that happened to anyone you know you just want your

friends to be safe at the end of the day have a safe event with no injuries now

DAN: Do you think its maybe too much pressure for him, or..?

No, look I think Brad knows his limits and he knows that track he knows his

equipment and I think he'll just

he's not going to go too hard he'll know he

knows how the other people ride and

I think he'll just do his thing it's like

he's having fun I think in enjoying it whatever the result at the end if you

come out the end unscathed everyone's a winner

the Street Luge is an extension of

my body it's a now a part of me and I know what it's going to do but I'm not

enjoying the whole environment I'm just not feeling

stable emotionally when I'm

on the board I still feel like I want to cry a lot

so I left it another year I

didn't go back to another event and everybody was telling me coming back

Brad, you're riding, you've been riding better than ever

you know you can still be world champion

this year I'm hoping to come back to racing it's been five I

think six years since the accident

back to normal I feel safe I feel very competitive

I know what I've gotta do to win

46 years old ............

..and

still rolling man!

meeting Bradley and his brother Karl

was great I loved to be able to

you know work with people around the world and

especially those guys they're just really cool guys. I picture me being

able just to skate around with those guys and drink some beers and just just

skate some killer spots ditches and stuff if I ever had a chance to do that

I would love to do that

yeah, mate I'm all for that. I know how passionate Brad is

about skateboarding and I think that's the best thing for him is to get back

into a bit of competition start racing again put the leathers on and

go for it

Bradley Sterritt's future?

mate I would love to see Brad

maybe come back to Newcastle

eventually you know get to hang out with him a lot more I'd like to take

a trip up to Cairns if he decides to stay there

oh just happiness and success

I hope you just finds his niche but also you know

catch up with old friends

and you know get to some events yeah get to ride with these friends

Oh I hope he'd contact, make contact with me

and, you know...try and

maybe get over his past

I'd like to think I could help him with that

well I think you know if, if his family want him to come back sometimes that's a

good thing cuz you know they're the people that really love you

unconditionally and

but in the end it's it's Brad's choice you know he has to

make the right decision and you know if he's if he thinks that he's gonna

do all right up there, then that's, that's what he has to do that you know

he has to remember that his family love him and

home is always home

After knowing Brad for so long

it's been the huge privilege for me to be the person who could make this film

and I hope that in doing so everyone

else sees it gains a little bit more insight into post-traumatic stress

disorder and perhaps the fact that we're all just one bad experience away from

potentially devastating consequences

For Brad's future in general

I just want him to be happy

I just want him to go with his gut and do what's right for him

whether he stays and Cairns and moves back to Newcastle

I just want to know that he's got as much

peace of mind as he can get

one of the hardest things is gonna be

going back to reality after this I spend pretty much 11 months saving up to come

up here each year

and then unfortunately to get back to reality

Righty O, after journey thst's just been absolutely incredible I can't explain it

I've caught more fish than I can imagine,

and had the best time with my brother

since I got back Mum's been very eager to speak to Brad and see how he is

we've always had a very close family that's one thing that's got us through a

lot of things as being so close

Sh's just been asking me day today how

Brad's been? How he's handled things he's getting through things

What life's like in Cairns?

and it's pretty incredible

yeah just generally how he is how his

teeth have been going how he's done with his Sjogren's syndrome?

still something

it's a little bit undiagnosed at the moment

hopefully we'll get to the bottom

of that soon and get him on the full road to recovery

I've spoken to him on

the phone since I've been back

which is not the same as being there with him and

speaking to him

I can't get a real good read on what he's like on the phone but

hoping he's keeping his chin up

and holding hope

coz if we lose all hope

we've got nothing

there's no point to pushing on

I haven't seen Brad for nearly six years

I miss him so much, especially when he get

in his depressed states.

I just want to be up there at Mirrawinni

so I can put my arms around him and just hold and they cuddle him and tell him

everything it's gonna be okay

sometimes I ring him on the phone just to hear his voice

I haven't got anything to

say to him but I just want to hear his voice

I miss you mate

I miss him so much

I wish you'd just come back home to live or at least back

to New South Wales so we can see him on a daily basis or once a week it would

just be so good

I think this is where he should be at

the moment I think it's gonna help....

get him better

I think he's got too much in his head that's negative that he's got to get out

and he's not gonna do it while he's at Mirrawinni.

He needs to be somewhere

where people are to be active

not to cover up his feelings because he knows

he can up there

no one asks him questions

even if he just came home for six months

and it'd be wonderful we just feel like I could talk to him and he'll him,

and I think that would be good

and I think being down here with his old friends

doing things

every day would be good as well, good for his mental health

When things are going bad in your life,

all you have a chance to do is just hold on

That's life.

Hold on and ride as hard as you can

and that's my motto

Ah no, the diagnosis of PTSD, its

probably more expected than anything else

after..such a tragedy

He literally left his life in Newcastle, moved to Brisbane, lost his lover

and got thrown ...

out into the world on his own.

He wasn't prepared for that.

he's a...

a man that relies on a partner

I think Brad's future will be awesome, you know

Brad's got the right attitude in life and..

you know, Brad's the type of guy, he'll take the best at worse situation and..

he'll make it work.

I'm sure he'll have an awesome future

yeah I am gonna race again

I'm gonna come back I'll be as strong as ever

I'd say next year will be the year

I was going to make it this year

but it just didn't feel right

but next year feels good

and I'm ready to go

bring the racing on
