It's been almost a year since GWF's wrestling show 'Three-count' hit your screen, and
a lot has happened since then.
If you haven't been following along, or just need a refresher before Season 2 releases
on August 29th, then here's everything that happened in GWF since the season 1 finale.
A battle for control of GWF between Ahmed Chaer and Crazy Sexy Mike exploded in to action
at Legacy during a match between Chaer and El Presidente Rambo.
Ahmed had just won the presidency of GWF after being helped in the public vote by youtube
star and wanna be GWF competitor Martin Guererro.
On the line in this match was the stipulation that whoever won would schedule the matches going forward.
Crazy Sexy Mike would turn against Chaer, and join forces with Rambo by fast-counting
the victory, leaving Rambo as the GWF match-maker.
Shortly after, Rambo would return the favor to Mike by attacking his Los Libertadores
de la lucha libre companions Felix Weber and
Kati, and handing the Matchmaker role to Mike in the process.
As the dust settled on Legacy, power was split
between President of GWF Ahmed, and the new
GWF Matchmaker Crazy Sexy Mike.
That wasn't the only important event to go down at Legacy, as we had the introduction
of a new GWF Superstar in Benji, who won season
1 of Who's Next, the talent show to discover
the next set of wrestlers vying for a GWF contract.
Senza Volto and Kris Jokic were ambushed after
a hard fought match by Grup Anarsi, leading
to the beginnings of the group who would eventually become known as the New Wave.
Former GWF champion Orlando Silver beat Cem Kaplan in a 'Loser leaves Germany' match,
but showed compassion after the result, allowing
the Sultan of Wrestling to remain in GWF.
One wrestler who would leave GWF for good though, would be Vincenzo Coccotti, after
beating Martin Guerrero in a 10 minute reverse Ironman match.
Following the match, Vincenzo announced his retirement from in Ring competition, but it
wouldn't be the last we'd see of him, as over six months later, Coccotti would reveal
himself as the secret admirer of Audrey Bride at Women's Wrestling Revolution 8.
The Berlin Title was on the line at Legacy,
with Lucky Kid facing off against his brother,
former tag team partner and reigning Berlin Champion, Tarkan Aslan.
After an emotional buildup that left Kid breaking
down crying in the ring previously, Kid would
go on to defeat the Lion King and start his first singles title reign in GWF.
Four nations cup winner Chris Colen announced ahead of Legacy that he was cashing in his
GWF World Championship opportunity in a triple
threat match with Icarus, and current champion Pascal Spalter.
The Austrian Wolverine would go the distance,
capturing the title and start one of the most
successful GWF World title reigns in recent memory.
December's Showdown would bring more twists and
turns, most notably in the tag team division.
Toni Harting and Ronaldo Shaqiri were unsuccessful
in capturing the Tag team titles from the
Cash Money Mafia at Legacy, and the former partners would fracture, resulting in a match between the two.
Shaqiri lost to Harting, but after the match, the young upstart would take matters into
his own hands and assault his former partner with a chair, leaving him lying in the ring.
Moments after the vicious assault, Ronaldo would
cross paths with Cash Money Erkan backstage,
who showed a level of admiration for Shaqiri's new found mean streak.
The Mafia had just found a new member.
Grup Anarsi would reap what they sowed a month before, as the debut of the 'New Wave'
saw the international high flying stable successful over Ali Aslan's Anarchical Assembly.
Lucky Kid was successful in his first defense of the Berlin Championship against Rambo,
and GWF World champion Chris Colen made good on
his promise to Icarus of a title opportunity in the main event.
The Austrian Wolverine was able to breeze past one of the former Arrows of Hungary,
and keep his spot at the top.
Global Warning brought with it the first matches
with Mystery Mayhem envelopes on the line.
Each envelope contained a randomly assigned championship opportunity at the self-titled
event in May, with the first envelope being obtained by Cem Kaplan, who defeated Senza Volto.
The event also saw a tag team gauntlet match, with Circle of Justice, comprised of Felix
Weber, Kati Libra and Ibo Latino, who had saved the former Los Libertadores De La Lucha
Libre members from their former leader Rambo,
back at Legacy, included in the match, along
with the New Wave, and International Impact.
The veterans Ahmed Chaer and Orlando Silver would win this match branded as the restart of the tag team division.
Speaking of Ahmed Chaer, he had promised Martin Guererro a fair opportunity after the two
partnered up to help Chaer secure the presidency.
Cue a whirlwind events of the Persian Wunderkind
Arash making a short lived appearance, and
disgruntled former Three time GWF World champion
Pascal Spalter coming out to put the hurt
on Guererro, things cleared up a little bit when Dover eventually saved the youtuber from
the angry behemoth Spalter, leading to a match between the two and Lucky Kid at the Light
Heavyweight World Cup for a Mystery Mayhem envelope.
Global Warning was a great event to be a champion,
as Berlin Champion Lucky Kid, defeated the
debuting Pheonix Jody Fleisch to retain his title, the Cash Money Mafia held onto their
belts by beating debuting Muskel-Kater of Toni Harting and Michael Schenkenberg, and
for the first time in 14 years, the ROH World Championship was defended on German soil.
Dalton Castle had crossed the Atlantic to face off against the Lion King, and former
GWF Berlin Champion, Tarkan Aslan, with Castle retaining in a show stopper of a match.
Lastly, the 4-nations cup was up for grabs as
Rambo, Icarus, Michael Kovac and Doug Williams faced off.
The tough, british wrestling veteran would outlast the other three competitors to secure
a future opportunity at any GWF championship.
In the meantime, Ahmed Chaer announced he would be introducing a new Vice-President,
in order to remain impartial when it came to who GWF were putting on their shows.
March turned Berlin into Chaos City, as for the 3rd time, Germany's Capital played home
to the brutal match of the same name.
The battle for control of GWF would rage on, as Rambo and Crazy Sexy Mike, now known as
'Dark Society Volume 2', a play on Chaer's old group name which I guess you could say
was Dark Society Volume 1, took on International
Impact, with a lot more on the line than first appeared.
The stipulation was that the winning team would have control of Crazy Sexy Mike's
and Rambo's matches going forward.
As a current competitor, it was an unfair advantage that Mike could determine his and
Rambo's opponents and match stipulations, and as such, the Chaos City match went as follows.
If Dark Society Volume 2 won, Mike would remain
able to select his and Rambo's matches and opponents.
If Chaer and Silver won, the new Vice President,
who was revealed to be former Head Referee
Davey, would have control over Mike's and Rambo's matches.
A brutal match followed, in which Dark Society Volume 2 would pick apart Chaer, utilizing
a kendo stick, among other weapons, to eventually break Chaer's finger.
Chaer powered on through the match, broken appendage and all, to send Rambo crashing
through two tables from the top of a ladder with a signature Death Valley Driver, to win
the match, and secure the match making power over Mike and Rambo for Davey.
Chaos City 3 also brought the debut of canadian
high flier El Phantasmo, as well as an attack
from Grup Anarsi on Dover during a match with Cem Kaplan.
Dover's former tag team partner Icarus would
chase off the remaining members of Grup Anarsi,
but Icarus' help clearly wasn't to the liking of the Hardcore Hungarian.
Focus quickly shifted for the former Arrow of Hungary though, as he would go from saving
Dover, to facing Tarkan Aslan later in the night with a Mystery Mayhem envelope on the line.
Icarus became only the second of five holders of the all important title opportunities.
Ronaldo Shaqiri's affiliation with the Mafia
continued as he meddled in the Berlin championship
match between Lucky Kid and Cash Money Erkan, helping Mr Uppercut get the win to become
both GWF Berlin, and Tag team champion at the same time.
And in the main event, the scheduled match between Pascal Spalter and GWF World Champion
Chris Colen was interrupted by Doug Williams cashing in his recently acquired 4-nations
cup, to inject himself right into the match.
Spalter's triple threat curse continued as his potential fourth world title reign
was scuppered by the addition of the anarchist,
and Chris Colen would survive the last minute
addition of another title contender, escaping Chaos City with the GWF World Title still in his possession.
In April, some of the worlds best high fliers
descended upon Berlin for the Light Heavyweight World cup.
The tournament between eight lightning fast
wrestlers introduced the GWF world to Angelico,
the eventual winner, who defeated Tarkan Aslan,
Senza Volto and WWE NXT UK brand member Kenny
Williams in a dazzling fatal four way elimination main event.
After Pascal Spalter failed championship opportunity,
his focus turned back to Dover and their unresolved altercation from Global Warning.
Added to the mix was Lucky Kid, with the match
being a Triple Threat for the third Mystery Mayhem envelope.
Dover scraped by to victory in the match, securing the envelope for himself, but it wasn't without controversy.
During the match, a hooded assailant made their way into the ring from the crowd, taking
out both Lucky Kid and Pascal Spalter, allowing the Hardcore Hungarian to pick the bones.
It turned out to be John "Bad Bones" Klinger who was the opportunist, using this match
to declare that the hottest free agent in German wrestling had come to GWF.
With only two envelopes left for Mystery Mayhem,
is came as no surprise that Dark Society Volume
2 had their sights set on claiming the championship
opportunities for themselves as due to the
stipulation between Davey and Ahmed Chaer, Davey
was only in control starting the following show.
Mike scheduled a match between Rambo and GWF
Who's Next winner Benji for the fourth envelope,
and a Caribbean cutter made quick work of the Giraffe Obsessed rookie.
Claiming to be a man of opportunity, Mike gave Benji a chance at the last envelope by
facing himself, which was a closer match than Rambo's, but ended in much the same way,
with Mike grabbing the last opportunity at Mystery Mayhem.
After much anticipation, Mystery Mayhem meant
the envelopes were opened to show us the title
contenders, and in another twist to their tale, the Arrows of Hungary were forcibly
reunited as their envelopes held opportunities for the Tag Team Championships.
Despite being seperated for quite some time, the Arrows didn't miss a beat, taking out
the Cash Money Mafia to secure the titles for themselves.
This was a weakened Mafia though, as Davey had decreed that Cash Money Erkan couldn't
defend both of his Berlin and Tag team titles on the same night, in case of injury in the first match.
Ronaldo Shaqiri was thrust into the limelight as defending champion, in an unsuccessful attempt.
Erkan was just as unsuccessful in defending his Berlin title against Cem Kaplan later
that evening, as the Sultan of Wrestling would
utilize the rest of Grup Anarsi's interference
at ringside and get Ali Aslan's team their first singles Championship.
At this point, Dark Society Volume 2's tactics
of getting themselves envelopes were starting to unravel just a little bit.
The only envelopes left were the coveted GWF World Championship shot, and a match for the
GWF Loserweight championship vs Martin Guererro.
Crazy Sexy Mike's envelope was the unlucky one,
and he would go on to get beaten by Guerrero
due Mike's lack of conditioning and become the new GWF Loserweight Champion.
Rambo would suffer a similar fate, despite more shenanigans from Dark Society, with Mike
dressing as his partner for their signature
entrance, allowing Rambo to ambush the champion from behind.
Colen fought back after the sneak attack and
put away the challenger to continue his stint as World Champion.
Moments later though backstage, the opportunist John "Bad Bones" Klinger ran in to the
Wolverine, throwing down the gauntlet for the championship for Summer Smash 3.
Earlier in the evening, Klinger had been a part of the Mystery Mayhem match itself.
Orlando Silver, New Wave's Oliver Carter and Senza Volto were joined by George Khoukaz
from Grup Anarsi to face Bones, Kris Jokic, Tarkan Aslan and Matt Cross, who made his
surprise return to GWF in his second Mystery Mayhem match.
Regular alliances were out of the question, with Jokic pinning his normal team-mate of
Carter during the match, and the match ended with Tarkan Aslan stealing the victory from under Bad Bones' nose.
The last stop before season 2 of GWF Three Count was Summer Smash 3, which opened with
a fast paced triple threat match between french
senzation Senza Volto, growing fan favorite
El Phantasmo, and Just Rambo to determine the
Number 1 contender for the Berlin championship.
Volto picked up the win, and a large amount of momentum as he's set now on a collision
course with Cem Kaplan, who successfully defended
his championship later that night against
former champion Lucky Kid.
Volto wasn't the only successful New Wave member at Summer Smash, as Kris Jokic picked
up his first singles win over former GWF World Champion Orlando Silver.
Previous to this match though, we nearly saw the debut of Arash.
Everytime from Global Warning onwards, Arash would be ambushed on his way to the ring,
whether it was Tarkan Aslan, whether it was
Rene Shaw at Underground, and this time Orlando
Silver was the one that would try and send Arash to the back, more out of kindness than out of aggression.
But a back and forth accident from Arash and
Orlando Silver meant that Orlando Silver would
end up taking the position in this match, unsuccessful against Kris Jokic.
The Arrows of Hungary showed they're still on the same page by defeating Cash Money Mafia
members Erkan and Shaqiri to defend their GWF Tag Team Championships.
The saga between Mike & GWF's management rolled on as he attempted to get rid of his
GWF Loserweight championship by rigging a match against opponents he felt he could beat
easily in Benjii, a young competitor from Season 2 of Who's Next, Tom Tom, and Felix
Weber . Davey put a stop to Mike's plans by adding
Georges Khoukaz and Toni Harting to the match in order to even the odds.
Mike scraped through the match, surviving a weird tower of submissions and a combination
of headscissor / boston crab holds that harken back to the human centipede that included
everyone in the match, to package piledrive Benjii for the win, relinquishing the title of shame.
The rest of the show was all business though, with two standout matches to round things off.
Tarkan Aslan took on Pascal Spalter to determine
the number one contender for the GWF world
title, and the Lion King took out the three
time champion with a low blow after distracting
the referee to close in on his first GWF World Championship opportunity.
The only question that remained is who would head into Battlefield, and GWF Three Count
season 2 with the World Championship around their waist?
To answer that, juggernaut's Bad Bones and Chris Colen stood across the ring from each
other and tore the house down, leaving everything
on the canvas for the biggest prize in GWF.
Colen would slowly draw the life out of Klinger,
outlasting the challenger to defend his World
Championship for the fourth time.
The Austrian Wolverine has sunk his fangs into each of his opponents since Legacy, but
with the Lion King staring across the ring at him at Battlefield, we're going to find
out who truly rules this jungle.
There you have it.
