Waching daily Oct 18 2018

We got something!

good morning Our Signing Fam

E: You got some dirt on your face

R: Oh I didn't know i had that

E: He was working on his car

R: Yup I'm putting it back together.

E: They don't know what you mean, putting it back together

E: Maybe you should explain

R: Oh yeah... really it's a long story but I'll keep it short for you

I was planning to go air suspension which means

you can raise or lower the car

E: yeah

I was wanting to do that but then I realized that...

it's not really the best idea for my car because

of how my suspension is set up

the air bags would hit the rear of the brakes at full turn

and I don't want any risk of blowing the bag

E: yeah

R: Literally a bag, a rubber bag that holds 200 psi. That's a lot!

It's a lot of pressure so if your brakes are hot and you're turning

The heat from the brakes would make a hole in the bag

and air would leak out

I don't want that

E: yeah one thing I've always appreciate about Ryan and how he does his car or he

makes decisions about his car is that he's always prioritizing safety and so I

don't feel so nervous when I'm in the car with him because I trust that he

always makes sure it's safe for us to drive

R: Yes I mean especially when it has so much power in it.

I mean it's not even funny, playing with safety. Not even funny

E: yeah. Safety's always first!

R: Yes of course!

R: I'm redoing all of it and fixing everything.

While i'm doing it you know

Replacing all the rubber pieces because they're old. Replacing it all!

E: today Ryan's brother was suppose to drop off

his dog Missy was supposed to drop her off today but he

said that he's not

we told him he should drop her off anyways

E: All your tools are everywhere

E: Tool there

E: Tool there

E: stuff there

E: everywhere

R: Honestly I don't like it either

R: This is not an advertisement!

This is the best for everything

I used this for the couch

E: use it to clean the couch

R: and for the wheels, and for inside the arches, everything!

This is amazing

R: and it's only 99 cents each!

R: you can get it at any store, if you see it, buy it

It's good stuff!

It's a bit harsh though to breathe in so be careful and keep your distance

but its good stuff

E: crack open a window or do it outside

R: time for my third cup of coffee

R: Third cup!

E: this is your third cup?

R: Love you!

E: I feel bad that I'm enabling you

R: nonono you're not enabling me

because i would anyways!

If you didn't make me coffee i would

still make and drink it anyways!

I cleaned up

Nice very clean

Yeah. I was trying to figure out how to take care of the orchid

I hear once a week but I was looking at YouTube videos

and somebody puts fertilizer in there every two weeks

Do I need that?

R: nooo just follow the instructions

follow that

But look this guys already wimpy

I don't know. Do you guys know how to take care

of orchids one of the flowers the stem

that is attached to that flower

it's like yellow now supposed to be

green and I don't want that to happen or

spread to the other flowers but I know I

water it once a week. Water it once a

week so I'm just kind of concerned

I don't want it to die

I don't know

R: thank youuuu

E: You're welcom

E: we got something!

E: A new mattress!

R: Can you lift it?

E: Oh my god. It's so heavy

R: Stop! Let me do it

Oh my gosh it's so heavy

heavy

R: I got you

R: why is it soo heavy?!

R: because it's a KING bed!!! E: Well I mean there's a whole mattress

Yeah! We got a King size

I think you guys know that recently Ryan and I

Ever since we moved in together we haven't been

getting good sleep

because

I mean we have a queen bed. That's big

R: not big enough!

R: when I got the queen bed a few years ago, I thought it was HUGE

But it's not big enough and not comfortable enough for us

Well it's because I kick when I sleep

So I will literally like kick him and then so he can't asleep last

night you didn't see huh

R: nope

yeah and when I wake up or when I move then he wakes up

because he feels it and

vice versa. If he moves then I

wake up and then we just don't get a

good sleep the Lull mattress doesn't transfer movement

so if Ryan moves or gets up in the middle of the night I can still sleep so

that's. That was like such a winning point there yeah

R: unfortunately our frame did not come in time so we're just gonna set it up on the floor!

R: I'm just going to mop the floor really quick

E: Yeah, it's a little dirty

R: ooh come here guys!

E: Oh look there's a card

R: that's nice of them to give us a card

E: Oh! Wow!

E: oh ooo

R: THAT IS SO COOL!

THAT'S A KING SIZE BED THERE! HOW?!?!

R: Really good packaging.

Okay, ready

yeah

Oh

R: Do you like it?!

yeah oh my gosh. It just takes up my whole body

R: best thing about this Lull is that:

1. Free shipping

2. Free returns

AND

3. 100 night guarantee

If you don't like the bed within 100 days, they will take it back, no arguing!

a really cool thing is that Lull sent us a special code to give you guys for $100

off your purchase and it will be in the description down below

I sleep like this

usually but look how far we are

R: that's awesome!

E: yeah it is awesome

R: I can sleep so comfortably now

the actual test is

can you feel me get up?

R: Nope!

You can't feel me get up?

R: no no no

Can you feel this?

R: no no no

Let's test the kick part

Do I sleep like this?

R: you can't kick me

Oh my gosh

R: love you

R: this is actually a huge step in us as a couple

R: my old bed was for ONE person but now this bed is for two people

and thank you so much to LULL for making that come true

E: so much room

R: honestly this bed is so soft that I don't even need a pillow

R: I can just sleep on this

R: dude you're so far away

R: I think we need a nap!

E: no. We need to get sheets

R: costco doesn't have what we need

They only have sheets for CAL king

Our bed is a regular king

Our bed is more wide right?

nono it's longer, right?

Cal king is shorter and wider

E: No it's the opposite

Shorter and longer?

We picked up some sheets and then we came back

What?

R: babe look how bad it was!

E: that's so bad it's falling apart

R: Really bad

E: What was that?

R: it's called a stabilizer bar

It connects to the sway bar

to help stabilize the car

to cushion it

Nono when you turn hard, the sway bar helps level it out

I'm gonna chill here while Ryan works on this car we do this like every night

R: not everynight! but recently yes because it's so messed up!

E: baby I want to go to sleep

E: please

Okay

E: Okay

I was going to wait for Ryan to set up the

bed and put on the sheets on

and we were gonna go to sleep

but he's still working

I'm gonna go set up. Put the sheets on the bed. okay

E: yay

Ready to go to sleep?

E: * sneeze*

You okay?

E: sorry

E: sorry

It's all good. Ready to sleep?

E: I'm ready

E: yes I'm ready. I showered already

R: I'm gonna shower really quick then go to sleep

thank you guys so much for watching our videos

Touché Amoré Take a Look at Their Mustang GT 2.0 Preset | Fender - Duration: 3:19.

[MUSIC]

Hi, I'm Clayton Stevens.

I play guitar in Touche Amore.

>> I'm Nick Stinehart.

I play guitar in Touche Amore.

The name of the preset is the name of our band, Touche Amore.

We couldn't come up with something better on the, or more clever on the spot.

[LAUGH] But it's pretty much what we use,

it's like a lot of clean headroom.

I think it's model after a Twin and some form of a clean boost,

light overdrive so that it's more dynamic with your playing.

If you're playing soft it's just got a little bit more emphasis on it, but

if you dig in it gets a little dirtier.

We've got a reverb, spring reverb on there and kind of an analog, organic

sounding delay, and a little bit of chorus for kind of some modulation on the reverb.

But still everything's real clean and articulate, nice sounding.

>> I think the reverbs on here are extremely usable.

They're plug and play.

You don't have to mess around with it.

They're very standard, good sounding reverbs that you would be able to

dial in on any really that has built in reverb.

>> Yeah. And it doesn't seem there's a really high

learning curve either.

You can play around a bit without having to be a scientist.

>> I'm very impressed with how close the Twin sounds on these Mustang amps

because usually what I like is that sweet spot before the tubes start to break up.

And with this I feel like the addition of being able to put a little like

a little boost pedal or a little bit of reverbs,

these sort of things, you can get a pretty close emulation of that sound.

With this, especially the ability to put in the effects and make an effects chain,

you can advance a lot further with coming up with ideas and stuff like that.

>> You can try things out without having to go buy a full set of stuff at

the store.

I mean, I grew up on bands like Rage Against the Machine, and I'd always try

and emulate kind of the sounds that they were making, but that's expensive.

You have to buy five or six kind of pricey pedals, and

you don't know if you really like them.

You can try them at the guitar store,

and it's not the same as playing at home in your bedroom.

So I had two little Squier practice amps growing up.

And I bought a stereo delay, so that I could try and

make these different sounds and separate them that way.

But this has so much room for experimentation.

Especially if I was younger, having these tools would be amazing.

>> Yeah, I think experimentation is how you create.

So it's not just like, yeah, you're inspired by something,

you want to emulate it, and then you kind of come across your own thing.

And that's a lot of what creating ends up being is some form of that.

It would be a huge inspiration, when you're starting out especially,

to be able to mess with all these different effects.

If you like what you hear from a certain band, like for instance,

our preset that we made here, you can just go directly onto the Fender Tone app and

search up the name, the preset comes up, you can start with that, and

then you can dig into all the different effects, add your own things to it.

And I think that's a really cool feature of this thing.

If you want to check out our preset, you can download it for

free on the Fender Tone app.

[soft piano music]

- Sometimes, we need to be reminded

of why we love food, why we love life.

We need to have experiences

that take us out of the every day.

Experiences that make us

really appreciate the moment.

For me, sharing delicious, fresh food does that.

And being at sea does that too,

which is why I created Share, from Princess Cruises.

The reason I called my only restaurant at sea Share

is because I love that idea-- sharing.

Sharing ideas with people. Sharing memories.

Sharing a meal.

You know, sitting around the dinner table

and talking to one another,

especially when you're on a Princess Cruise

and you're seeing all parts of the world

in such an amazing way.

At Share, we're constantly looking for new inspiration,

new ingredients,

new techniques that we can bring to you

that just blow your mind.

We've introduced some unbelievable

new dishes at Share.

Wait till you taste the Baja-style prawns,

where flavors from Mexico collide

with those from the ocean.

The ultimate freshness in beautiful, big prawns

with the flavors from Baja, Mexico.

It's just such a wonderful dish.

Alaska is such a majestic place.

But I gotta tell you, we've come up with a dish

that does it absolute justice.

It's Alaskan king crab.

We poach it in butter. It's so delectable.

And then we serve it with a confit egg yolk.

Just wait till you try this one.

Then, there's the brown butter Duroc pork chop.

What we do is we hard sear it

so we get lots of caramelization.

beautiful and sweet.

The tender, juicy pork chop has two bones.

You're gonna love it.

We do it with a whole-grain mustard.

It's just such a fabulous dish.

And no meal is complete without something sweet

to help you savor the moment.

So we're introducing almond marzipan to the Share menu.

It's a warm cake with strawberry coulis,

candied almonds, and creme fraiche ice cream.

It's almost too pretty to eat. Almost.

When I watch guests sharing food with one another,

having tastes of things, smiling,

big conversations going on, the clinking of glasses,

it just makes me so happy.

That's why we do what we do as chefs.

I can't wait for you to try this.

Forgetting About My Grandma - Duration: 5:31.

Oh hi!

So it was about a year ago when my grandma passed away.

Oh, and yeah, this is going to be another downer of a video.

"I don't think I've every smiled even once during one of your videos."

Well, OK, ouch self esteem.

My grandma was special in my life.

She is the only grandparent I ever really had a relationship with.

Both of my dad's parents had passed away by the time I was 5.

My other grandfather passed away when I was in Grade 1.

So while I have small snippets of memories of them, mostly they've faded away.

And I worry the same thing is happening now.

What I mean is that my other grandparents are ideas.

We have photographs of them.

My parents speak of them, but they remain intangible to me.

It's like when you're in history class and you're told about presidents or prime

ministers from the 1800s or early 1900s.

They're important.

I can read about them, see the pictures, and try to understand the political cartoons criticizing

them.

But when it comes down to it I still have this barrier between me and them.

And I think it comes down to all the other senses we use when we interact with people.

Flipping through photographs can jog our memories into remembering forgotten picnics or birthdays.

But according to research smell, taste, and touch are much more closely related to storing

memories.

And each of those is slipping away.

I think I can remember my grandma's touch.

It wasn't that she had rough hands but I could also tell that she had to work growing

up.

That she wasn't afraid to get into the muck of things.

Which is true.

I loved her baking which she mostly kneaded by hand.

She had a garden that she would tend in the summer.

And she was really into sports.

Apparently she was ready to go to the Commonwealth Games but then WWII began which kind of wrecked

things for a while.

But she came first in the senior games.

So there's that.

The taste is her baking again.

I loved going to visit because I knew I'd get fed.

Whether it was of her own doing or these packaged oatmeal cookies that only she had when I was

growing up.

But it was tea that most closely brings me back to her.

The only time I drank tea as a kid was at her house.

I'd make sure to put in some sugar and a bit of milk and then played cribbage with

her.

I never won once.

But that tea … man.

That's grandma's house.

When I get my Earl Grey Tea Latte from Starbucks, that first sip is when I see her face flash

before mine.

For just a second until it evaporates away and gets replaced by the stresses and traffic

of everyday life.

It's the smell, though, that I most keenly remember.

And this I'm not going to be able to put into words.

My grandma's house had a particular smell that has never been replicated anywhere else

I've ever been.

Maybe it's just because everyone has a unique smell.

Which I'm sure is partly what it is.

But it was a mixture of that, and nature (because she lived out in the country for most of her

life), and old cigarette smoke, and forgotten perfumes, and other flotsam and jetsam of

sixty years of living in the same place.

If I could bottle that smell though, I would.

Impossible of course, but I would.

I'm thinking of this right now because in the final years of her life my grandma didn't

necessarily remember me.

That was the hardest part of her final years.

I certainly didn't make it back as often as I wanted or should have.

And most of that is because of fear on my part.

The few times that I did, because of the dementia or Alzheimer's or whatever it was the doctor's

had decided to call it that week, she would slip between asking me questions about what

I was doing and asking me who I was and what I was doing there.

And that hurt.

It stung.

This woman who had watched me grow up, who loved me unconditionally, and who in many

ways I aspired to be like couldn't remember who I was.

Intellectually I know it was the disease, but that doesn't really make it easier.

So, conveniently, I chose to not really remember those last few years.

Instead I focus on the good times.

I remember the cookies, and the tea, her holding my hand, and the smell of the house.

But even those things are slipping away.

And I'm wondering … is that normal.

Is it normal, or maybe a better question to ask is, is it right to forget your family?

I've been obsessed over Media Lab, the business I'm trying to make successful.

That's been my focus for the last three years.

Planning it, executing it, and then trying to sustain it.

In that time everything else has become secondary.

I don't reach out to friends that often.

My parents have to phone me.

I forget to reply to texts for weeks.

I've become kinda awful.

But then, after I sip that latte, I'm taken back to being seven.

Trying to count my hand in a game of cribbage, being skunked by my 68 year old grandmother.

And that tear starts to form in the corner of my eye.

Sure I have pictures.

I have a bunch of pictures.

And I can look at them.

And I can try to remember what was going on when they were taken.

But it's not the same.

Time marches on.

That's the cliche of it all.

I understand that in 100 years I'll be dead.

I'll be mostly dust and possibly my nephew and niece will think of me occasionally as

they try to outrun the robot uprising led by clones of Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk.

Which, to be fair, will turn out to be great for shareholders.

What I'm trying to say is that I think it's important to take some time and think about

and talk about those important people who came before us.

Not for future generations but for you.

Just like those old white dudes running countries that I learned about in school who I have

no emotional connection to I doubt you have any sentimental tie to my grandma.

But by telling the stories and celebrating that life you can keep them close to you.

Even as some of the senses you're sure you'll remember forever are lost.

But what do you think?

Which senses are the most important to you?

Will you still need me, will you still feed me when I'm 64?

Let me know down in the comments below.

Next week, let's get high on life.

I'll see you next Thursday.

Curtis Stone Cuisine Aboard Princess Cruises - Duration: 2:34.

You've got to have an idea, a philosophy,

a thread that runs through everything you do.

Something that holds it all together.

For me, that's creating the freshest food possible.

When you start with the freshest ingredients,

the cooking is actually pretty simple.

I guess it was serendipitous,

because that's Princess's philosophy as well.

The Crafted By Curtis dishes, I'm super proud of.

We've done a really good job of figuring out what dishes

can be served in the main dining room

to absolutely everyone.

There's a chicken and leek pot pie that I absolutely love,

a seafood stew that you won't believe,

and then this confit pork belly that's so tasty.

When people come and ask me about Share,

my only restaurant at sea,

I say, "You've just got to go and experience it."

We don't just want to feed you.

We want to create a total dining experience.

We want you to sit down and have special memories

with the ones that you love the most,

and put delicious things on the plate in front of you.

We're constantly looking for new inspiration,
