I guess we've prepared a lot more strategies. A thousand times more.
We now have an incredible number of heroes we can pick.
The important thing is to play them well.
Let's play something before the games. I don't know. I can't—
How about we just bring a grill in here
and have a shish-kebab party.
We had less time to prepare for other tournaments.
Here, we spent five or six weeks really preparing.
That's the only difference,
the fact that we played way too many CWs.
Against many different teams.
About 120–130 CWs.
It's really important to have a sense of the limit.
In the last couple of days, we gave up CWs,
realizing it was better for us to just take a rest now,
to talk to each other, rate heroes, discuss strategies.
Because really, that was too much Dota
I didn't have this feeling, you know,
"when will it finally end", "I hate this".
I played and I played, because I knew I still had things to achieve.
It's a feeling I have virtually all the time.
Show it.
What's going on with you all?
What's going on with me?
Where did you get the meat?
Why did they do this?
There was a normal photo here, they updated it. What is this?
Awesome.
Couldn't make it pretty, sorry.
Vanya has the coolest autograph. What is this here?
So let's say we have set pieces, we have strategies.
I really feel we've prepared a lot, and we've done a great job.
But when you have everything,
the whole baggage of what you've prepared,
which part of it are you supposed to use when the game begins?
For some reason, in the group stage, we weren't picking the heroes that we'd practiced a lot.
We did pick them, of course, but not as often as what we'd prepared.
We're not very clear what to do about our mid right now.
It doesn't have to be 2-1-2 in the side lanes;
you can duo mid, too, helping Vova so that he starts to play well.
The new glyph is just OP.
For me, its impact on the game has been devastating.
For this reason, I lose a lot of laning stages I ought to be winning.
I'm not on my best game right now.
This is probably my worst tournament this year.
I'm prepared,
I'm focused, I'm not nervous or anything.
I just play my own game, I enjoy it,
I'm with my team, but I just can't make it work.
And that's the most disquieting thing for me.
This simply shouldn't happen in the playoffs.
Any little thing you may get punished for, is going to be fatal.
The coolest %*#@ing thing is facing Alchemist as Tiny.
Not a single creep. Zero creeps. Just zero.
No matter how hard he tried.
Actually you can even kill him without your third ability.
You just deny every creep, no %*#@s given.
And you have so many HP that you don't give a %*#@.
If they pick Alchemist against you, Lanaya is one of the best heroes.
Actually, it doesn't matter how you prepare for a tournament.
Your mental approach is what matters.
TI is a different kind of tournament because the prize pool is very large, and a lot of people are really nervous.
They're afraid and everything.
Take away all that, and it's just a tournament like any other.
And you can win it just as easily as we've been doing throughout this year.
A group's a group.
It doesn't matter how you've played.
You can get into the lower bracket and win the whole tournament.
It's always—
The International is a game of moments.
We're playing LGD again in the first round.
10-6. 10-6.
10-6.
Can you imagine what happens next year?
It's going to be a hard game.
Then again, if we want to win The International,
we don't care who the opponent is.
Alexey, in his last CW matches, didn't even look at the enemy's names sometimes.
Because it doesn't matter who you're playing against if you want to win this tournament.
You're going to have to win against LGD as well as Liquid and probably EG.
It really is a very strong team,
and if they play their drafts,
then playing against them is quite hard. The games were difficult.
We came close to defeating them at EPICENTER,
I think we should have.
At the Supermajor, we finally managed to.
A strong team, so those are going to be tough games.
I'm sure no one in the CIS is sleeping right now
if they know anything about Dota, even superficially.
Everybody's here, everybody's watching, everybody's with us.
And the guys need our support more than ever, because the drafts are dangerous.
This is where the mind games begin,
because in certain situations, when things seem very straightforward to you,
there are three levels of outplaying each other in there.
This may be a mistake. Somnus jumps away — and the Black Hole hits nothing! He pulled off the bait!
And now the real fun begins. Necrophos goes in, gets an X.
Fun indeed. Necro dies. He's going to be away for 53 seconds.
Will he buy back? No, I'm not seeing it yet.
There! The buyback. Vengeful Spirit falls.
Drow gets hexed.
And Undying is here. And there's Storm Spirit. Hi there, pal.
So you're actually in this game, huh.
Avalanche comes in, and Necro goes in immediately — and he's Ghost Shrouded!
There's a chance that no one gets out.
Yes. And another series of buybacks. Virtus.pro die one after another.
You must never get carried away. They're gonna go for the ancient!
LGD are going for the ancient!
And it's the right call, absolutely. — They're going to make it in time.
GG from Virtus.pro!
This is why you should never write off this team. Never.
Enigma was indeed one of our strong suits.
Well, I don't know how we could possibly have lost that, but we managed to.
The ship's spent too.
PSG.LGD can now take out the mid side. No[o]ne retreats.
Reflection hasn't even been used yet.
VP can't even get close. — No, they can't.
The base is on fire. GG!
Virtus.pro didn't even look like themselves in this series.
I'm more than sure that the first game was a big blow to VP's play.
You can see that in this game,
they've evidently looked worse than in the previous one.
It was a cold shower for them after all.
Who tries to catch Storm with Black Hole?
You'd have to be someone who played 10 games on Enigma.
How many have you played, brother? — A lot.
I hit him with it and caught him before, dammit.
Placing it here is hard. Nobody does that.
Yes, they do. They do place it here. — In the center?
No, obs in general.
He's coming with us too. Are we taking a +1?
Have you closed the door? You were the last one out.
You should go. — Let's go.
I think with OG, a lot depends on the draft.
Let's at least take our strong lanes as our starting point.
We'll outplay them in any case if we win those lanes.
In any case, they can make a mistake,
because fighting with us is %*#@ing hard.
Very hard. We have two dominators, Visage and Enigma.
It's hard, I agree.
Brother.
Give me your hand.
Hello everyone. Virtus.pro vs. Mineski. Elimination match.
I realize it's probably very early in the morning where you are, 5 a.m. Moscow time.
Still, wake everybody up, it's going to be a cool match.
I can feel that they're in control of the game,
compared to the previous one.
Although obviously it's too early to celebrate.
Virtus.pro have had moments where they were in control of the game and lost it.
A triple kill from No[o]ne! Ramzes! Going to just choke them!
One! Two! Three!
That's an easy frag for Ramzes, of course.
That's, I don't know, 10 down, 9 down.
Basically everyone died in there.
No[o]ne can be hit — but he uses BKB.
It's a die-back for Troll. This looks like the end.
Vengeful Spirit gone. Ramzes finishes another one.
He can Black Hole now.
Yes. Just for the heck of it.
Black Holed that one too. And it's GG. VP advance.
But here, they've been confident. They won it confidently.
Give me your phone, come on. — Wait a sec.
Thank you!
Strangely enough, many teams are playing much stronger now.
I can't say it's just one or two.
The level of Dota got higher ahead of TI.
It's obvious, people come to TI to win it.
You don't come to TI thinking, "I want to be in the top 16, or top 14, or top 8."
Do you see it? Am I the only one seeing it?
It's bound to be a cool match.
If we look at it pessimistically, it's the match of the day.
If optimistically, the match of the day will be a bit later, against Evil Geniuses.
Virtus.pro are calm as lions.
They're not nervous at all.
They give each other info with complete calm.
They know they have to pressure all the way here.
Ramzes is pressing on! He's simply immortal!
He turns around and Death Pulses.
Initiation.
Kill. — He's the last one left. He buys back.
He's definitely not going to get out here. Another frag for VP.
Everything's all right. Clinkz is back in the game.
He's beating Solo down very quickly. Solo must survive.
Solo! Solo lives. Zai gets Sprouted.
No[o]ne with double damage, that's five down, maybe six.
GG!
Virtus.pro advance.
That's at least top 5 or top 6.
Hold him.
Why? Why, dammit? What did Borya do?
Oh %*#@, Lyokha, it %*#@ing stinks after you wore it.
At CWs here in Canada, we felt that EG had picked up good form.
When Fly and s4 transferred to EG, they couldn't make it work right away.
They really picked up good form and got a sense of the meta. Suma1L is playing well.
At the CWs, we realized EG are going to be among the winners.
On top of that, they advanced from the top spot in a tough group.
They're playing really well.
They're the only team we played against with a feeling that they were giving it their all.
Every aspect of their game had been improved several times.
The most important match of the day, the week, the month, the year, etc. is about to begin!
VP vs. EG, hype hype hype, gentlemen.
No[o]ne initiates against three. A lot of damage. Immediate Global Silence.
Too far, I think EG have overextended now.
But no. They've blown up No[o]ne, they can leave now.
A mistake! A mistake from VP!
We basically did bad things, moved around the map badly, bad moves.
We rushed things, we made mistakes, we played very badly and deserved to lose.
That Stomp going to hit at least two. Yes, two.
Fly's badly beaten. Ramzes runs in.
He flies in! Suma1L is here! He's come back so quickly! A triple kill for Suma1L!
We lost the first game and hoped it would go better in the second one, and it did.
But at a certain point, we just took a fight poorly.
Our picks were good in both games. They just outplayed us on actions.
It's going to be a fight. Pasha didn't steal the rune. The second rune was taken after all.
It's not the best place to engage. Immediate Fiend's Grip from Pasha. Swapped, all right.
The fight goes on. Two are down already. The battle continues.
Arteezy jumps. What a Starstorm, that hurt. Two down from Arteezy's Starstorm.
RodjER's stuck. It's going to be a triple kill from Arteezy. This was exquisite.
In the second game, it was all obvious about 20 minutes in.
We were playing an inescapable game.
More or less everyone realized how it was going to end, but we tried to win.
Suma1L is going to jump on Ramzes under the tower. Ramzes is stunned and killed quickly.
There's no saving him after that swap. A very easy frag.
EG are doing what VP should be doing. Suma1L is chasing Solo now.
At the 25-minute mark in the game against EG,
I started feeling a bit worried that the enemy had Alchemist and we couldn't do anything.
Simply zoned off. Ramzes is eating up illusions. No[o]ne is standing guard.
Concoction connects. Half of Ramzes' HP is gone already.
Arrow connects! Five seconds!
They can focus down No[o]ne, he has no buyback!
That's No[o]ne gone. Good game!
Virtus.pro are leaving The International, placing 5th–6th.
Virtus.pro repeat their achievement from the TI three years ago and last year.
It is of course a sad moment for the entire CIS region.
We tried to move away a little from what everyone else is doing now, to not be like the others.
But we
gave it up almost immediately
and followed Dota's current fashion, which we're worse at than, say, OG.
Overall, it's not a big difference
if you're laning 2-1-2 against, let's say, GH and Miracle-,
or against a Tier 3 CIS team.
Because their heroes are equally powerful,
and their builds have been more or less copied off of each other since a long time ago.
Everyone gets that you earn money for killing a creep, and no money if it's denied.
There's a lot less room in the game's strategic and tactical aspect.
There you are, two — one — two. And you're standing there.
And, well…
As it turned out, we probably need an entirely different approach towards The International.
I don't know.
TI is very different from majors. I haven't found the key yet to preparing for it the best way.
