CHRISTMAS DECOR BOX WITH ELASTIC WOOD
The thermoplastic, elastic wooden decors and stripes are used to decorate flat or convex surfaces
Paint the lower part of an oval cardboard box by acrylic primer
Paint the braided border stripe by matte acrylic paint to beige color
The surface of the thermoplastic, elastic wooden decors is porous, easy to paint
Draw around the top of the box at its right position, and then draw it around at the bottom
Cover the surface between these two lines by a masking tape
Paint the bottom and top bands to beige around the tapes
Put vertical masking tape pieces vertically besides each other
Then remove every second tape, so they will be separated by the identical gaps
Paint the free parts by red wine color matte acrylic paint...
then remove the tapes
Cut a band from rice paper napkin as wide as the white surface, and decoupage it to the side of the box
Shade the colored stripes by earth-brown acrylic paint, thinned by water
Soften the applied water by a wet brush, and then wipe the excess off by a dry paper towel
Attach the stripe to the side of the box and heat it by a hair-drier until it bends to the shape of the box
Lift the stripe and glue that section by a glue gun
Proceed in section and always glue the soft sections that match the curve of the box
After gluing around, cut the stripe by scissors and match its ends
A benefit of glue-gun is quick work, and the decor stripe bends even more to the base because it is hot
Shade the glued border stripe by earth-brown color thinned by water...
Apply the color to short sections, then wet it and wipe it off
Paint the deer shape earth-brown
Sprinkle dark brown velvet powder to the wet paint
Turn the box upside down and glue the deer there by Heavy Body Gel
Glue a composition of crops to the free surfaces by Heavy Body Gel
Fill the gaps between the crops by Icelandic moss
You can use the same technique to make Christmas decor boxes, with elastic wooden decors on their top

Hello everyone, today Rich's will show you how to use and preserve Rich's Whip Topping Base
Rich's Whip Topping Base is acid-tolerant and can be applied to both cakes and beverages
The topping can be combined with almost all liquid ingredients
including acidic ingredients such as fruit juice or syrup, and still maintains stability.
First, let's learn how to preserve this product
When receiving the product, make sure the pack is still frozen, then store it at -18°C.
The shelf life of frozen product is 1 year.
Do not refreeze fully or partially thawed products
Next, let's find out how to handle this product
Thaw the product in the chiller at 2°C - 7°C for 24 - 36 hours before use.
and don't forget to shake the pack well before opening it
Make sure the product maintains the temperature between 2°C-7°C before whipping

30m Range Day - TM Scar H - TM Scar L - G&G Scar L - VFC Scar H - Duration: 30:09.
hey guys today we are down at our quarry site doing some testing I've got a lot of guns in front of us and some
modified some unmodified we've got gas in here and then we've got a mixture of
TMS g&g so yeah we get last a lot of questions about accuracy and modifications
range etc that's straight from standing at the box as we some of us like our TMS
all like the guns I like to run that are fully upgraded to the main so we kind of
want to put some myths and some legends to bed
in today's range tests regarding accuracy and range really regarding
White's upgrades etc yeah so one of the surprising things today about sort of
diving into the results was there different weights B B's and how much
that impacted the angry sea so yeah guys what we're gonna do now is cutting the
footage the shooting footage and then afterwards we would come back and talk
about the results so what we wanted to do first was chrono all the guns
starting firstly with Ritchie's vfc scar-h and you'll see the results
following
so after Khurana in the guns we got Ritchie in a comfy shooting position and
you can see the two targets then down at the far end thirty meters away from our
current shooting position with a wind of between 15 and 20 miles an hour you can
hear it in the footage it does pick up at times making it a little bit
difficult to engage these target
so after shooting all these weapons at 30 meters we decided to push back to the
50 meter line and use Rich's VSC scar-h we also changed from 2.5 grandbaby's to
4.0 bb's one of the key issues that we then had with the footage was we was
losing a lot of the light and there was a lot less of a significant impact on
the target and because of that is very difficult for us to pick up the impacts
especially on this camera and on this bit of footage as you can see from the
wrap-up at the very end then there was impacts on that target and actually held
very very good consistency at that range
this is not zero I'd say
so the sun's going down and you don't they shoot you may really impressed yeah
so good well you're on the gun make this work got the gun some really interesting
results if ownership yeah like team since we're just losing tonight a long
day teams done all the legwork running to and fro circling the targets can in
the hits I've been the lady once that I'll just be laying down it's the
trigger time right let's bounce through these boards in in week and now we can
go through the results so so first up it's not giving an order of shooting by
the way but I would just talk about the groupings in the distance sure
so the first step it was all set at 30 meters yeah this is 30 meters prone as
you see in the video now this is the TM recoil Scott here beef which is Tim's
scar-l scar-l just because you know someone pick up on
it right so as you can see here so 2530 meters point to we 2.25 man bb's so we
had one two three four five hits if I lost you that's quite a good grouping
got a bit windier so fast win so yeah towards the end the result who were
getting quite a hefty crosswind right across the end of the target it really
was that you know wish the east wind coming right across the target so this
made things a little bit difficult but you know it would be a true test if
there wasn't some kind of variable in there so you can see in my opinion quite
recent group in yeah be 30 meters yeah for a lot of airsoft this is
actually fifteen metres property being at
distance when you started looking for adventures I've been you know nineties
know if you look to that grouping on a person within vicarious yes so if you
look at this obviously armor of slim build you know
five those rounds are in centaur tip says in cinemas that all five all cancer
here so if you have put your rounds down on someone at that distance you know
you've got a very high probability here in that so they're making a play around
now obviously what I'm gonna try and do guys 1820s none more time included
description all of the upgrades or not if it's fresh out the box yeah just
fresh out the box will stay if there's any questions you dive about any other
platforms what's you know any of the smaller details then please let us know
but we were honest over in the description or it'll be previous on the

so yeah happy with the Scarborough completely happy with that
you know I'm modified so this is my TM sky score heavy recoil again 30 meters
point two five grandbabies so one two three four rounds on target bit of a fly
here nice grouping up top yeah super happy with that probably
tired why don't eat ice little Yosef shots again you know in varying
conditions here you know and there's a lot crosswind as you can hear in the
video so yeah yeah to get a little group on that or someone you know have eight
shots which is not a lot to put out onto a target yeah super impressed with you
again both stand battle yes standard Tim internals yeah then you
have got a screen changing so I said this one has the tourney soft spring in
there as well as AoE correction piston head etc except a few bits will tell us
off there but nothing that will really you know that the barrel is standing on
this now this one I will say obviously what we're doing so we put eight shots
on target so every gun every target is eight shots so as you can see we've got
four out of the eight now I will say with this one when we've done this test
the wind did pick up was a crosswind so you know is this a true reflection yes
because we need a variable you know it's gonna affect it but you know when the
wind seen your head we would pick up with die down or see whether we did die
then you can see the grouping is pretty good yes pretty dope
so Tim recall Scott heavy 30 me 25 on happy with them quite next up is Tim's
new little baby is his TM mp7 gas blowback now it's just that
he's absolutely bog-standard out the boxes nothing done this whatsoever
when I had no no no - many many years old now but still super impressed with
the accuracy and the range of this so again 0.25 grab babies baby is some
real nice grouping down here 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 item says all-out reigns on target
that 8 rounds on target and again if you're holding it up here Bay's definite
someone in that in that reactor so yeah again you know completely standard you
know the shortest length gun of all of the day as well I've got the run
suppressor on there but if you do take suppressor off and you know really
compact little unit yeah I can definitely reach out and obviously I
know we know the Sun is that the Sun is shinin today but he's still only about 9
degrees yeah so realistically you know it's
quite cold conditions or against blow that gun so yes
well if you precise without it press for that as a weighs TM coming through the
goodness okay so next up we have the one event for quite some time there's a lot
of miles on it like Tim says vfc face and I say base because it said a lot of
upgrades to it this is South as a DMR so it has the AC
engine fall in it it's got a map or 6.03 type or
Prometheus omegas fucking bomb not in there no idea different a burner
another purple rubber I'm not sure though the make on that burner it wasn't
my brace to it so once you fight maybe bees because you know that's what we do
okay baby is a grounds on target it's if I want each of you reading good
grouping so one two three four really super tight there slight blower off here
but days you know that's negligible property value yeah I mean I think the
other ones like remembers well it's hardly eat the side on the edges yes
there's a few flicks of where it's just just on the edges so again you're really
precision you know good precision for that
the nice thing about this do you look at all the rest of the group since how flat
it is so you know that a lot of them have got a lot of sort of vertical
spread this has got none so you see it's like very little fluctuation in power
it's gonna give it lift or little or dip so so that for me was was probably the
most impressive of the day I mean it was the accuracy that the mp7 was good but
yes super impressed with that nice and flat you know in the day your toilet
dropped them in on someone and letterboxing someone then you know
Fermina that was a really impressive year obviously the VFC each Sabbath iam
are so he's pushing 318 yeah I think we've got the chrono results as well for
the program yeah punchy but it's not breaking any rules but my team says you
know compared to some of the others would just at the end of 30 meters saw
just starting to drop off just too tight just I mean small amount this was pretty
flat so I say you know if you get that white tie opening it will get in there
okay so push it out the difference is now this is not just pasted out this was
properly measured from the target 50 meters is a long way you know we hear
I've had loads of people talk to me about 50 70 Plus Mia killed 150 and I've
seen people ranging stuff out and so you know this is legit we'll put some photos
in now that I took from you know Richie's shooting position 50 minutes is
a long way especially for a target like this and such a quite narrowed and to
get type video shots accurately on target at that distance it's quite quite
impressive so you know looking now at these results is is something that for
me I'm really open wise to what the capabilities were you know I fight my
scar happen to this distance as well have no problem making the distance
which was surprised in the chair some low FPS gun 2.5 to stop yes so we're not
break-in imagination so like Tim says you know 50 meters hell of a long way
and when people talk about touching those thought businesses isn't honest if
I ever see someone on them you know out there playing with the skirmish or
milsim and the 50 meters the gun story at this sort of angle I drop them into
drag drop them in you know I don't myself for the past world I'd have the
government's that rangy but 50 metres is when you play so now that we have we've
done a tape measure it's all done it's not that place this one probably so what
we did obviously we were kindly supplied some parts from the gyroscope shop thank
you for instance and thank you Dan that's good let's go job but the sniper
mechanics boys so we were given a TNT barrel multi ball barrel as well as a
SRS nub and a 60-degree rubber now it's a TNT
bucket tnt bucking so all these parts we're basically your field strip this
good fun never done before back at Tim's wagon so we strip the VFC
down changed out the hobby of hopping it was the same stripped out the barrel the
rubber and the knob and then we all see to get back down to the range obviously
going from 30 bees pushed it out to 50 years so these are results
one other thing to add is on the recommendation at then a scoop shot yeah
we opted 2.4 grandbabies what a game-changer now me and tubers
like we're not going to use point fours we might wish never to I know - I
suppose you know if we're feeling lucky we just didn't think that we would get
the distance well baby chip let me tell you this yeah so vfc Scott heavy
upgraded barrel rubber enough so we had to change the hop unit we haven't
changed the spring though power change not no power change nothing so this is
50 meters with a point for grandbaby now this was 2 4 6 8
that's a shot on target at nearly double the distance who was shooting that
anything winded picked up yeah even more at this point and just hearing the
contacts down at the you know at the target and was and you could hear the
difference we stood side-by-side that shot my sky rail with the two fives in
and the other falls down on target a very big difference on impact you could
also see actually between the two boards so if you look at the impact that's
actually made you've got light indentations here you look at the
difference in there in the holes they're almost pushing through the engine of a
car that really embedded in the in there in the you know same gun same power
different weight babies and and a different hopper barrel and you are
completely different result down a target the wind team says a complete
different you know gun I mean this this thing he just blew
my mind how how true and how flat these Browns traveled I have done this because
I kind of called you my bullshit I mean if I achieve you would mean to have had
many conversations about this and I win it which ended bad about point for
grandbabies you know I mean yes she's pushing 380 FPS but you know put some
was a heavy round it's a big double nearly double you used every day and you
know the results really did coming here heavier wind you know need double the
distance and and you know a very tight grouping you know 50 days again it's a
long way I don't know I would wait I really recommend that you guys when you
get to feel to go to skirmish field you go to moved him to whatever just pace it
out just pace are 50 meters and stand that distance between people you know
it's very easy to go old that's about 50 to millions do it stand between one and
over and you realize how great at the distance that is again first 250 meter
photos in so you can see that so obviously my point of aim point of
impact here obviously now these guns were zeroed we did we have to find the
zero every gun so we did a competition to avoid the fine point of impact
so horizontally voice you know elevation I was aiming here you know that's just
yes 50 meters these round of traveling flights I mean really flat you know and
they still have a lot more to go windy to is I hope the birds Tim says the wind
was picking up so I was probably my record was about here somewhere to
adjust for the windage but you know we're talking here whereas some of the
rounds earlier on to adjust for we need I was over here you know it's just that
that extra weight in the rouse yeah that's true up less adjustment to be
made yeah yeah again you know this result for me nowadays you know weed up
great you know it's a combination potentially of feral and knob and the
weight of the rounds but you know we saw the the weight of the rounds in our in
some of the other guns and it really did make a big difference
yes a super impressed about good was yeah
just obviously so that goes to show this in Sweden there 30 meters and 50 meters
upgraded just going back to the 30 meter line we had quite a G&G scar-l which is
not really a gng not anymore no it's got G&G body but everything else
is custom everything I was custom in that so realistically again 0.25
grandbabies and 30 me going now again some really tight groupings on this 2 4
6 7 I think we've missed one the item says it's just off just off the key
that's one of the narrower or to be out today yeah it's excusable thank really
really good result again you know a nice horizontal grouping these big vertical
spreads for me it shows are the guns yeah you know not consistent with power
where is it is really soft flat spray it is yes I think the only thing I would
say about the other gg obviously has got an upgraded hot rubber
now everyone yeah but I found with this one compared to some of the other
platforms the rounds worse of curling in you know at this point I was aiming up
here they were and off here yeah surround sort curl it in and although
once I've got point they put it in paint the grouping was very good as you can
see but you know if you have to take one shot punch only you know it's you
haven't you just have got that range really nice true for that range is wizz
what you're sort of like he'll the GTA overall it's it's pretty good yeah
pretty good so
suddenly meters 70 meters so we never would have thought that an aeg would
push out 70 meters obviously yeah if you know by experience just spend a lot of
time sniping I know a lot of snipers that struggled ganz 70 meters accurately
many many snipers out the box won't reach W mean it isn't that we noted
peeps I could be none of the comments but I'm telling others it's very
difficult to get to 70 meters accurately and after shooting this at 70 meters it
was very very portable so the rate of fire you know you need to be kind of lit
and have four shots in the air on top really yeah it's incredible really
really good fun so again obviously 50 meters the rounds were super super flat
we at the discussion 60 means we thought you know live let's push it let's push
techni meters yeah because we felt that the hop hand a little bit more in it too
to give now what could family this was always the group in here so we have
eight shots we've had one two three four five rounds on target at 70 meters of 70
meters so that's the same as at 30 yeah it's a very very impressive very
impressive now obviously these are
went for grandbabies again now with this result what I found was is it wasn't so
much
ran itself still flew pretty flat yeah brief man pretty pretty true
obviously I think maybe the last maybe five meetings you just sort of slide in
that it's just start to come off I found this without really
the easting to effective this distance religion survivors hander I hear
something it's a ticket to get the rounds to curling everyone say we did
watched on cross with but you know my team says have suited me that's a long
way that's a very you know it's a long way it's a very incredible engagement
and you know a lot of the time I've see someone at seventy eighty ninety meters
I'm not even fazed by I mind if I get nothing to shoot me at this distance you
know I'm really I'm relaxed at that point and maybe that's you know
something that I need to heavily reconsider there you know there is DMR
platforms and potentially you know AEG platforms with the variety intervals
using the right weight bb's that could definitely program some Talia at that
range which was very very surprising you know this again and very narrow board
you know they someone slide on they could potentially be taking rounds from
an aging at seventy meters yeah we've winded you know in in an
environment where you know we are quite high up here in the quarry so you know
there is change this isn't a sterile environment we totally don't we
discussed it this morning we don't agree with a sterile environment of testing
maybe four barrels or something but you know you're never shooting in those
environments it's so hard to detect we're here you've got the changing
environments you know you've probably got a little bit humidity from this
morning the guns being out in the cold all day yeah especially the gas guns are
yeah they're cold this is really in the Sun now for about
twenty minutes and it is still very cold iron yeah super fresh super solid with
this one again you know obviously we've been filled with this we've got the
internal part into it you know within sort of half an hour so we only really
had some twenty minutes you know on the range with this you know with this new
new set up so I reckon with a bit of time a bit of practice if you know you
know the more you I get to use this gun the more I'll know hair performs in the
wind and you know I'm talking these these hop
adjustments without on the fly yeah I think with a bit of practice the
more time behind the gun you know it won't take three or four shots to you
know to bring this thing out with whistle wind I think you'll be I put
that one round in and I simply meters yeah and you know you're talking that
sort of this or sniper distance from an AEG massively pressed suits addressed so
risk is a fairly bad guys you know if you are using 80 platforms please don't
you know count them out as not being able to reach out there to stand
distance don't feel like you've got a ton of money into these guns you know
impressed really for me that the standard TM platforms
you know I'm standard gun user I'm an advocate of you know not that grading
unless you really need to you know seeing what can be achieved that
operates with Ricci's VF C's is incredible absolutely incredible that is
for me account of sniper weapon yeah DMR platform and actually all the leading
edge every go to the distance I think you know do I eat done you know 75 80
meters it's something that that weapon can definitely achieve especially in the
right environment so yeah I'm in a way that's just incredible to you the
difference in weight you know going up to point fours you've seen it in the
accuracy test and have those Titans you know that the groupings yeah tire and
you know T MGMT vfc they've got them all here and they're all reaching out those
distances so and I think we hear what will happen you know
just come away from the upgrades a little bit going back to em mp7 the gate
one of probably the best performing guns boys sick of bits before gun tonight
but I say best non-operating yeah before we go and for a gas-guzzling you know
that's something for me he's always like I'm not you said you know for the barrel
length you know you've got size packages hey so you know thanks lesson Frosty's
is it's very much about what white bb's you using that does have the massive
yeah a really big impact and you know across a variety of platforms you can
still reach out and hit people at 30 50 and 70 meters certainly made shots were
the most impressive for me and if you guys want any more information on

you know the battle we were choosing was a TNT multiple barrel which I think
because we were I had this conversation about it at the way PBS always said the
Faroes at the hop I think it's a combination of everything and you know
really I use it I think we have done a beer because we kind of doubted him but

exactly like you say he said use point fours with this this and this and

I've made an announcement through one of my videos
saying that I will probably be quitting as a professional player in Call of Duty.
In the Call of Duty scene, Japan has always been really closed-in.
There wasn't much option for players to compete on the international stage.
The game as an esport wasn't even developed at all...
...throughout the 6 years I've been playing as a professional.
Looking back,
all I can find is bitter memories.
Memories of not being able to compete enough.
However, starting from Black Ops 4,
Japan is now able to compete on the world stage
and have tournaments that allow players to officially travel to CWL.
To be honest,
this leaves me in a conflicted mood.
Starting from next year,
something that I've been longing for ever since the last 6 years
is finally starting to become a reality
and is making me reconsider my bitter thoughts that I've had towards the local scene.
Previously in CWL Anaheim,
our team suffered a crushing defeat and ever since then
I've always wanted to challenge the world stage once again.
First of all, I'd want to give it my absolute all in this upcoming tournament CWL Las Vegas.
And then decide how I should move forward as an individual after.
I can't be sure what I want in this moment.
Simply, just try my best in Vegas,
After CWL Las Vegas,
only time will tell what path I'd like to pursue
and how things will play out next year.
Our experiences in CWL Anaheim definitely left lots of feelings of regret
so this time I will do my best so that nothing of that happens.
Coming into this season of Black Ops 4,
the current team roster is really splendid.
It will be crucial for us to be on top of communication...
...at all times throughout the tournament matches.
After this CWL, I might continue playing professionally,
but there is the possibility of me quitting as a professional player.
However, I am who I am. I won't change as a person.
and I will still be sticking around

Skicircus Stories: Season Preparation - Duration: 4:50.

We've just completed the maintenance programme for the Asitzbahn lift. We do this annually in Spring
and Autumn
All of the pulley blocks and wheels are checked and any damaged ones are
replaced.
The Asitzbahn has about
500 wheels and each season about
150 need replacing,
as well as blocks and bearings.
Our summer and winter seasons are busy, so there is considerable wear and tear.
We need about 3 weeks
for this lift, and then we have the lift stations too.
The work takes a lot of time, but it's enjoyable.

Today we're testing our snow machines.
We do this every year before the actual snow-making season starts.
The annual routine is as follows: We follow a plan to position the mobile snow machines,
the transportable ones, to provide the snow base for the main slopes.
These are in addition to our permanent snow machines on towers.
We then connect them up to electricity and water and in low
temperatures we simulate our snowmaking procedure.
So that everything runs efficiently, we divide into groups and
each one checks an area of piste and machines, so we
don't waste water or electricity.

Today we're going to show you our maintenance programme for the clamps on the Asitz Gipfelbahn lift,
and of course there's an apprentice with us. Our apprentices need to learn how it's done.
Every year we have to do 33% of the clamps.
They are cleaned, greased, and inspected for cracks.
If anything's broken, it's replaced and re-assembled.
Of course we have our checking packs at the top which we have to work
through and make notes so we know everything's OK. It's all documented and filed.
After maintenance of the clamps, we then have to wash the chairs.
The bubbles are checked for cracks.
Grease that drips down from the clamps is cleaned off.
It's a lot of work, as you can see, but it's all to make sure our
guests have clean seats and good visibility through the bubbles.

Hello! We are in front of the piste basher garage.
The preparations are in full swing.
We've just set up the last machine,
attached the shaper and the chains, set up shields and adjusted the snow measuring.
During the summer, we have dismantled each machine,
maintained and put it together again.
We hope that we have done this well so that we can get
throuth the winter without any maintenance needed.
As you can see, the snow machines are working and we're ready for the winter and
to groom the slopes as best as we can in order to satisfy all our guests.

It's Tradition, Charlie Brown: Charles Schulz on Television - Duration: 6:09.
Hello and welcome back to picsandportraits.
With the holidays now upon us, I thought it would be fun to look back at one of my favourite
traditions, A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Peanuts is synonymous with holidays, even the more obscure ones and in this video we
will see how Charles Schulz's comic strip was first adapted to television and how it
became for many an annual holiday tradition.
Television was still a relatively new medium in mid-1960s, having replaced radio following
the second World War.
Like its predecessor, it had the ability to bring families together and when are families
together more than on the holidays.
As far as I found the first television Christmas special was Walt Disney's One Hour In Wonderland.
Airing on Christmas Day 1950, this was Disney's first television production and served as
a promotional tool for the upcoming release of Alice in Wonderland.
That same year, cartoonist Charles Schulz's comic strip Peanuts debuted.
Schulz began his career in 1947 with Li'l Folks, a single panel precursor to Peanuts,
featuring many of the same archetypes and themes.
Schulz contacted the United Feature Syndicate with hopes of them distributing Li'l Folks
but around this time, he had also been developing a cast of characters for a four panel strip.
UFS accepted this strip and on October 2, 1950, Peanuts premiered, appearing in less
than ten newspapers.
By the end of the decade Peanuts would be a phenomenon, thanks its neurotic star Charlie
Brown.
I believe this character resonated so much because he is a celebration of everything
we usually keep locked up inside.
In many ways, Charlie Brown is our embarrassment personified, a reflection of our fears and
failures.
Unlike his peers, Schulz's work took a sardonic tone and dealt openly with issues like depression
and existential dread.
The strip was so successful, that by the 1960s it was being read by 355 million people in
21 different languages daily.
In 1959, Schulz began a partnership with the Ford Motor Company.
The Peanuts characters began appearing in ads for their automobiles as well as during
the opening of their sponsored program the Tennessee Ernie Ford Show.
These spots were animated by Bill Meléndez, who had previously worked for UPA, Warner
Bros. and Disney, where he took part in the strike of 1941.

Meléndez would start his own production company in 1963.
Also in 1963, television producer Lee Mendelson approached Charles Schulz about making a documentary
on him and Peanuts.
Mendelson had produced the documentary A Man Named Mays on baseball player Willie Mays
and was drawn to Schulz not only for his popularity but also his apparent love of baseball.
The documentary, A Boy Named Charlie Brown, not to be confused with 1969 feature, would
never air, due to lack of network interest.
However, while it was being shopped around, The Coca-Cola Company reached out to Mendelson
about producing an animated Christmas special.
Yearly specials had become a television staple during the holidays, again family, togetherness,
and Peanuts recent Time Magazine cover story convinced executives of their mass appeal.
Mendelson and Schulz prepared their pitch in one day, which closely resembled the finished
product.
It would feature the Peanuts gang in winter scenes and a school play, to a soundtrack
of jazz and traditional Christmas music, with Schulz insisting, most controversially, religion
also play a part.
This pitch was accepted for a December broadcast, leaving a tight six months for production.
Mendelson and Schulz enlisted Bill Meléndez to direct and animate the special, given his
experience on the Ford ads.
Schulz was known for his sparse style and so Meléndez was limited in what personality
could be conveyed with movement alone.
However, with his backgrounds, he created a vibrant world for the Peanuts characters
to live in.
He also gave voice to the most expressive character, Snoopy.
Going against convention, the other characters were all voiced by children, most notably
eight-year old Peter Robbins, who provided Charlie Brown's malaise.
Tracy Stratford was tasked with bringing the precocious Lucy to life and Christopher Shea's
lisp fit Linus' quiet, yet commanding, demeanour perfectly.
The final, and in my opinion, most enduring aspect of the special, is the music.
While Mendelson was producing the unaired Schulz documentary, he contacted jazz pianist
Vince Guaraldi to compose its score.
Guaraldi, who had found mainstream success with 1962's Cast Your Fate to the Wind,
agreed, and penned the piece Linus and Lucy as the film's theme.
This is probably the piece of music most closely associated with Peanuts.
Guaraldi was brought on to compose jazz instrumentals as well perform renditions of traditional
carols.
His originals, Christmas Is Coming and Christmas Time Is Here, have since become standards.
Now Guaraldi wasn't exactly the best at crediting other musicians so I'd like to
acknowledge the contributions of bassists Fred Marshall, Monty Ludwig, Eugene Firth
and Al Obidinski as well as drummers Colin Bailey, Paul Distel, Jerry Granelli and Benny
Barth, all of which at one time were involved in the recording sessions.
A children's choir from St. Paul's Episcopal Church bookends the special, with vocal performances
of Christmas Time is Here and Hark!
The Herald Angels Sing.
A Charlie Brown Christmas was completed a mere ten days before its scheduled broadcast.
When it premiered on December 9, 1965, all involved were convinced it would be a failure.
On the contrary, it was viewed by nearly 15 and half million people and received overwhelming
critical praise.
It would go on to win both an Emmy and a Peabody Award and influence everything that came after
it.
Watching it today, I must say there is still something so undeniably hip about A Charlie
Brown Christmas.
Many Peanuts specials followed, my favourite being The Great Pumpkin, but even with the
same team, I believe its magic was never quite replicated.
It was instantly a tradition.
For many years it was an annual must-see event, miss it, and that's it.
It's gone until next year.
Home video has somewhat negated this but 52 years after it's premiere it continues to
air in prime time, along with its contemporaries.
To think, in the span of five years we had Rudolph, Peanuts, The Grinch and Frosty.
All of these are still shown yearly and treated as cultural institutions.
Many specials have been produced since, and while some have even enjoyed prolonged relevance,
none have had the staying power like the ones I just mentioned.
What is it about these specials that has allowed them to stand the test of time?
There is the obvious answer, these networks are programmed by people who grew up with
them.
It's their nostalgia they're simply prolonging and passing down.
However, I believe these specials endure because were produced at the time when television
was defining itself.
They are sewn into the fabric of the medium.
They still appear on television because they are television.
Putting sentimentality aside, A Charlie Brown Christmas, I believe, will come represent
what television was, in part, long after its last transmission.
