SCIENTISTS CREATE A MAGNETIC "WORMHOLE" THAT CONNECTS TWO REGIONS OF SPACE - Duration: 5:11.SCIENTISTS CREATE A MAGNETIC WORMHOLE THAT CONNECTS TWO REGIONS OF SPACE
BY ARJUN WALIANOVEMBER
Wormholes are fascinating (but theoretical) cosmological objects that can connect two
distant regions of the universe. They would allow one to create shortcuts through
space in order to travel vast distances in a shorter period of time. They are predicted
by the general Theory of Relativity, and are what Einstein referred to as bridges
through space-time. Wormholes are mathematically predicted, if not proven, and a new study
illustrates how scientists have taken these theoretical anomalies which many physicists
believe to be real and created one for themselves.
Researchers in Spain, from the physics department at the Autonomous University of Barcelona
in 2015, actually created a magnetic wormhole in a lab that tunnels a magnetic field through
space.
Using matematerials and metasurfaces, our wormhole transfers the magnetic field from
one point in space to another through a path that is magnetically undetectable. We experimentally
show that the magnetic field from a source at one end of the wormhole appears at the
other end as an isolated magnetic monopolar field, creating the illusion of a magnetic
field propagating through a tunnel outside the 3D space.
Just to be clear, the manufactured wormhole is not able to transport matter, its able
to transport a magnetic field from a physical object by having it disappear at one point,
and then reappear at another, which is still very significant in the world of science.
The wormhole is invisible to the human eye, but its a sphere made up of of an outer
ferromagnetic surface, an inner superconducting layer, and then a ferromagnetic sheet rolled
into a cylinder internally. Here is a picture of what it would look like to us:
worm
Prior to this accomplishment, the researchers were able to create a tunnel to transport
magnetic fields. What makes this finding so much more interesting is the fact that again,
because of materials used to build the wormhole, theyve managed to keep the magnetic field
completely invisible.
This result is strange enough in itself, as magnetic monopoles do not exist in nature.
The overall effect is that of a magnetic field that appears to travel from one point to another
through a dimension that lies outside the conventional three dimensions.
Alvar Sanchez, the lead researcher, said that the magnetic wormhole is an analogy of the
bigger, theoretical gravitational ones that are commonly used in science fiction. Despite
this, there is still, according to modern day science, no way to know if similiar magnetic
wormholes exist throughout space.
A paper that was recently published in the Annals of Physics offers mathematical evidence
that a massive black hole in our galaxy is actually a wormhole. If this is true, it should
be possible for humans to navigate it
Our result is very important because it confirms the possible existence of wormholes in most
of the spiral galaxies.
Whats the significance here? Well, if a device can take a magnetic field from one
spot to another, it could have a number of medical applications. For example, it would
be possible to take pictures of the body with a strong magnet placed far away, releasing
people from having to endure the small, tight environment of an MRI machine, not to mention
the radiation that goes along with it.
Its always fun to think about wormholes, anything thats dominated the realm of science-fiction
that has a practical chance of actually being real is exciting. The search for extraterrestrial
life right now is at an all time high and Earth has never seen such an interest in ET
life like this before, which is why this area of theoretical physics is so well known to
the general public.
Im going to leave you with this quote to give you something to think about. Ive
used it before so I apologize if youve already come across it.
There is another way, whether its wormholes, or warping space, theres got to be a way
to generate energy so that you can pull it out of the vacuum, and the fact that theyre
[extraterrestrials] here shows us that they found a way. Jack Kasher, Ph.D, Professor

YouTube Stars Who Are Unrecognizable Without Makeup - Duration: 4:38.In a world where almost every image is #filtered, some of the hottest makeup vloggers are daring
to go totally bare.
While their transformations range from a small change, to looking like a completely different
person, these YouTube stars prove that true beauty goes deeper than the perfect foundation!
Michelle Phan
With more than 66 million views on one tutorial alone, Michelle Phan has amassed a mega fan
base.
But when the YouTube starlet shows her face entirely bare — she's almost unrecognizable.
In an interview with Teen Vogue, Phan explained how makeup has changed for her, throughout
the years, saying,
"When I was in my early teens, makeup was my way of feeling more beautiful."
"Then going into my 20s, my perspective changed.
[...] Makeup was a form of self-expression."
"It was my way of exploring the different facets of my personality.
[...] That was my form of self-discovery."
Lilly Singh
Known online as "Superwoman", Canadian YouTube personality Lilly Singh combines beauty, brains,
and humor — all to empower women.
In 2015, Singh shared a life-changing discovery, when she didn't have time to do her makeup
before a meeting:
"I found myself texting: 'I look like a mess, sorry, don't judge me!'"
And that was her big moment:
"Since when do I have to apologize for looking like myself?"
The next time you see Singh makeup-free, you won't catch her feeling sorry about it!
Tanya Burr
British beauty queen Tanya Burr is drop-dead gorgeous, with or without makeup.
She's also an ambassador for the ONE Campaign, which helps fight poverty and disease in impoverished
countries.
But that's not all: she even went totally "BearFaced" for BBC Children in Need, where
Burr and a handful of other inspirational women took off their makeup to raise funds
for the campaign.
Burr joked:
"This is the easiest shoot I've ever done before because I haven't had to get ready...And
if it raises any money, even one penny, then you've done something amazing."
Jeffree Star
You can't talk about beauty vloggers without the controversial Jeffree Star.
But if you saw him on the street, you might not recognize him!
In an interview with Racked, Star shared his mission, saying,
"When I was 18 wearing makeup everyone was like, 'What the hell?'
Now it's a lot more acceptable.
I think in the last ten years we've come a long way, so it's cool that more people can
be creative and be themselves..."
Rocking no-makeup, or glammed up like Jessica Rabbit, Star's style is an inspiration to
all.
Jackie Aina
Nigerian-American Jackie Aina is shaking up the beauty world by redefining what it means
to be beautiful.
She told Refinery29:
"There's a lot of pressure for African American women to just be natural and be holistic,
or, you hate yourself.
That's kind of frustrating because I don't think it should be that black and white."
And she strives to celebrate everyone's unique looks on her channel.
"Everybody looks different and some of us like to celebrate ourselves artistically."
"It doesn't necessarily mean you don't like the way you look naturally."
Miss Fame
Drag queen and makeup artist Miss Fame has been turning heads ever since she hit the
scene, but her "before" and "after" proves she's got the skills to pay the bills.
In an interview with Allure, Miss Fame explained why she was inspired to start doing drag,
saying,
"I had always played with gender and that allowed me to explore my identity through
beauty and makeup."
"This opened the door to discover my duality: the man that people saw and the woman that
I created."
NikkieTutorials
With her first makeup tutorial rocketing to over a million views, it's clear Nikkie has
officially made it.
And surprisingly, she frequently wears no makeup at all.
She posted this video after fans who'd met her without makeup wondered if she was actually
the girl in the videos.
In Teen Vogue, Nikkie said her mission would be,, quote,
"To make viewers feel good about themselves.
If they learn some tips and tricks on beauty along the way, and have a laugh while doing
all of that, then I have done my job."
Miss Glamorazzi
Ingrid Nilson, aka Miss Glamorazzi, has a way of looking effortlessly flawless in nearly
all of her YouTube videos, which is probably why she's got upwards of 4 million subscribers
checking in daily to see what she's putting up on her channel.
But she's also posted a few videos where she's ditched the makeup.
In 2011, she shared her thoughts on her imperfections:
"There are so many more important things in life than what I look like."
Jenna Marbles
Mostly known for being silly in front of the camera, Jenna Marbles is also known for looking
perfectly done up.
But the hilarious beauty vlogger has no problem poking fun at herself.
"I know what you're thinking.
'Jenna!
Your face is terrifying!'"
She's refreshingly real about the overwhelming world of internet beauty.
And with over 22 million views on her "Drunk Makeup Tutorial", she's not afraid of a fresh
face, or a fresh perspective!

Call Out Videos & Building a Positive Vegan Community - Duration: 5:57.Hey there modern vegans and vegan curious, it's Margaret and welcome back to ModVegan.
Today on ModVegan I want to talk a little bit about the culture of
calling people out on YouTube. And I am NOT someone who has never done this. I
have done it before on my channel. I have a couple of videos that I've made where
I have called attention to people's behavior that I felt was wrong...some of
those videos I feel good about and some of them that I don't necessarily feel
good about. I still believe the things that I said in those videos, but I also
think it's really important to create a positive culture here on YouTube - to
create a culture that is more about helping people bringing them into the
movement, helping them feel accepted and appreciated rather than making them feel
terrible. And there are times when people ought to feel terrible, and that's not
really what this is about. I think there are times when there are things that
genuinely do need to be called out that are issues where you need to divide
yourselves and distance yourselves from someone who is being extremely abusive
towards other people or something like that. But aside from that, I think we
really need to work on creating more positive culture here. And I actually
think we are. I may be disappointed after I say so in the comments on this video,
but I have to say that overall I have seen an improvement over the last few
months, and that may be because I may be spending less time going through the
comments section and everything like that, although I still try to respond to
all of the comments I just noticed more of a culture of positivity and I want to
thank my subscribers for that you guys have been amazing and I think we can all
work to create a better culture here on YouTube so that's what I want to talk
about today.
I first joined YouTube about a year and a half ago.
And at the time that I started making YouTube videos - especially vegan YouTube
videos - calling out videos, or r"esponse videos" were kind of the main way that
people communicated with each other. They would make a video and then they'd make
a video responding to someone else's video and then so on and the cycle would
just continue and I can see some value to this it's definitely good to respond
to ideas and address them. But I feel like there's also a disadvantage in that -
for one thing - we really want to be building up members of the community. We
don't want to be attacking people for their views, even if we happen to
disagree with them and this is especially important to me, because I'm
someone who has very strong opinions. I have strong views on things, but I
don't want ever to feel like people are being silenced because of things that
I've said, and while I'm still a very small youtube channel - I don't think I'm
gonna be silencing anybody - I think that it still is really important to be
cognizant of the impact that we have on our community as a whole. And so, for this
channel, from now on I'm gonna try very hard not to do anything that would be
considered really a "calling out" video - if I have anything to respond to about
something someone has said, generally I'm gonna try and avoid talking about them
by name, because I think oftentimes the issues are the really important thing.
Eleanor Roosevelt is very well known for saying that "small minds discuss people
average Minds discuss events great minds discuss ideas." And while I do not
consider myself a great mind, I prefer to discuss ideas and that's what this
channel is about. That's what I really enjoy talking about on YouTube, and I
will say that even in the past if I have been criticizing an individual, it is the
ideas that I have a problem with, it's never the person - even if the person
seems to be relatively odious - it is always the ideas that are really the
true issue at the heart of the matter. And I want to make that very clear in my
videos now. It doesn't mean that I'm not gonna be talking about other people's
ideas, and when I need to, I might refer to them specifically if it is something
that is a back and forth debate/dialogue type thing, or if it's someone who's a
thought leader in the vegan movement and I'm referring to their ideas. But I just
want to make my viewers and other people on YouTube know that this
channel is not about shaming people, it is not about criticizing people, it is
about ideas - about understanding ideas and about creating a better, modern,
compassionate world. That's really what this is about - it's about working
together to create a better world. And that's why, no matter who you are, I want
to work with you. If you're interested in making a better world, I want to talk
with you. And that's what this channel is about. I really would like to hear some
input from you guys about your attitude towards this entire thing, it's a
decision that I've come to over the last few months. You guys probably remember
that earlier this summer I made a video where I called out a specific
person, and I regretted it afterwards. Not because I regretted what I said,
necessarily - I still very much stand by some of the ideas that I was talking
about, but if I made that person in any way feel bad or even made other people
feel badly about that person, I'm really really sorry. And that was not what it
was intended for. And I'm gonna be more careful about that in the future. I think
I've done a good job on this channel so far trying to avoid drama and things
like that, but sometimes it has happened and I just want to avoid that in the
future, because I think this is such an important movement that it is very
important that we safeguard the reputation of veganism and make sure
that we are helping to build each other up, not tear each other down. And that's
what I'll be trying to focus on here. As I said I'm not gonna avoid controversy, I
will stick me still be making videos about controversial ideas controversial
topics, but I'm gonna do my very best to avoid anything that could be perceived
as targeting people or or hurting anyone's feelings because that's never
nice, and it's not something this channel is about. It's not what I'm about. I
always feel awful if I ever hurt anyone's feelings,
so that's not what this channel is about and I hope you guys will understand that.
Let me know what you think in the comment section below. Do you feel like
the environment has gotten better for YouTube over the last year or so? I
kind of think it has, but I could be wrong. So I want to know what you guys
think. Thank you so much for watching, and if you enjoyed this video, please be sure
and give it a thumbs up and subscribe, and I will see you next time, take care.

Controversial Scenes In The Book That Were Cut For The Movie - Duration: 5:29.Movies have to be particularly careful when it comes to adding controversial scenes.
Since everything's right there on the screen, there isn't much left to the imagination.
Books, on the other hand, can get away with a lot more, which is why adapting a book to
film can be tricky business.
So which film adaptations left the most controversial scenes on the cutting room floor?
Let's take a look.
It: Chapter One
Easily the most controversial scene in Stephen King's 1986 novel It takes place after the
Losers' Club defeats the evil entity in the sewers.
When they get lost on the way out, the group's only female, Beverly, comes up with a strange
plan to help unite the group: she'll get busy with them all, one by one.
Immediately afterward, one of the boys remembers how to escape the sewer system.
Unsurprisingly, the scene was entirely dropped for both the 2017 film and the 1990 miniseries.
Screenwriter Gary Dauberman told Entertainment Weekly:
"While it's an important scene, it doesn't define the book in any way…
We know what the intent was of that scene and why he put it in there, and we tried to
accomplish what the intent was in a different way."
Me Before You
The romance film Me Before You had the benefit of being adapted for the big screen by the
novel's author herself, Jojo Moyes…which only makes it more interesting that the film
lacks one rather critical plot point.
In the movie, the female protagonist, Louisa "Lou" Clark is quirky and intelligent, which
is why nobody really understands what keeps her from spreading her wings.
In the book, however, we know exactly what Lou's deal is: in high school, she was assaulted—something
she keeps firmly under wraps.
This critical plot point is used to explain pretty much everything about Lou, from her
weird and overtly conservative sense of style to her offbeat personality.
Moyes claimed they tried to put that scene into the movie, but it simply didn't fit,
saying,
"I worked with the director a long time writing this scene and trying different variations
of it.
It achieves a different weight when you do that in pictorial form.
The more we tried, the more we realized it just skewed the tone of the whole thing.
It was changing the mood of the story."
The Road
Cormac McCarthy's 2006 Pulitzer-winning novel The Road and its 2009 film adaptation tell
the story of a father and son's fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where
nearly all organic life has perished.
The film has its fair share of heavy moments, but one particularly disturbing scene was
left by the roadside.
In the book, the pair encounters a group of survivors about to eat a baby—a scene which
was filmed but ultimately discarded.
Director John Hillcoat explained:
"It all works in the book because it's in your head.
When you visualize some of this stuff it just becomes too much."
We'd have to agree with him on that.
Paper Towns
Adapted from John Green's young adult novel of the same name, 2015's mystery dramedy Paper
Towns tells a coming-of-age story about an all-night road trip of revenge.
However, one particular scene from the book was intentionally left out of the film.
In the book, the two main characters, Quentin and Margo, break into SeaWorld at the end
of the night.
However, following the release of the documentary Blackfish—which shone a light on on what
happens to whales in captivity—the screenwriters decided to drop the SeaWorld part completely
and have the characters end their night at Orlando's SunTrust building instead.
Producer Wyck Godfrey explained the change, saying,
"Since [John] wrote the book, the documentary [Blackfish] came out.
I think it's a little less playful to go to SeaWorld now."
Divergent
In order to maintain a financially friendly PG-13 rating, the film adaptation of Veronica
Roth's post-apocalyptic YA novel Divergent had to be toned down in a major way.
But one particularly graphic scene from the book was cut for different reasons altogether.
In the scene, the Dauntless initiate played by Ben Lamb wakes up with a knife in his eyeball.
Director Neil Burger explained that he'd shot the scene, but then decided to leave it out
of the theatrical release because it was "interrupting the flow of the story."
He told CinemaBlend:
"...even though it's a good scene, that's really the art of trying to figure out where
the movie is working and sometimes what's slowing it down is one of your favorite scenes,
and you've got to cut it out."
Gone with the Wind
You can't talk about the history of American cinema without mentioning Gone with the Wind.
Adapting the racially charged novel for the big screen, however, was no easy feat.
As The Atlantic points out, in the book, the central black characters are "content with
slavery, uninterested in freedom."
Author Margaret Mitchell once describes a character as having "the uncomprehending sadness
of a monkey's face."
Even worse, the book calls the Ku Klux Klan a, quote, "tragic necessity."
Obviously, the producers had a hard time remaining faithful to the original story.
Even for the 1930s, some of those scenes were a little too racist.
American Psycho
Mary Harron's film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's 1991 bestseller American Psycho doesn't
shy away from disturbing scenes.
We watch the film's protagonist, Patrick Bateman, brutally dispatch multiple people and fill
up a colleague's apartment with bodies.
Still, the film doesn't even touch some of the scenes from the book, which is so disturbing
that The New York Times said it was "understandable" when Simon & Schuster refused to publish it.
It's some pretty messed up stuff, and Harron probably made the right choice when she decided
to keep most of the brutality off the screen… including one horrible chainsaw scene.
On the plus side, at least we got Christian Bale's moonwalking Huey Lewis monologue.
"He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical
sense of humor."
