The justice league is a team of comic book superheros in the DC comic universe and that's

who were going to be talking about today.

Hey youtube im court mcginley and welcome back to the most amazing top 5.

Alright without further a due lets get started on our list of the top 5 shocking justice

league facts.

Coming I nat our number 5 spot--23- 23s the number of years that the justice league went

before adding in their first black character.

In 1968 Marvel added in the member Black panther.

Then quite sometime later the Justice league introduced their first black member when the

Detroit League was introduced.

This is Vixen.

She was created by Gerry Conway and Bob Oksner.

Vixen was originally intended to be the first African female DC superhero to star in her

own series.

But then in 1978 the first issue was cancelled on the DC implosion and was never released.

Vixens main story line was focused around her powers changing.

She began to draw in on the powers around her opposed to drawing in on animal characteristics.

In at number 4--25- Cyborg joined the justice league on tv 25 years before joining them

in the comics.

Now while people know the character was featured on Tv before being In the comics people are

shocked that the time gap between the 2 is so large.

Back in 1985 the cartoon Super powers Team Galactic Guardians was doing pretty well.

And at the time Teen Titans was a popular book so it made sense to the creators to add

Cyborg to the Toons cast.

In his first appearance Cyborg turns down a league membership to continue his work with

handicap children.

At number 3--Justice Society- the Justice Society was originally going to be the name

of this group but an editor named Julius Schwartz thought it sounded too fancy so they changed

it to the justice league instead.

Which personally I like better- what do you guys think?

About the name changing decision Schwartz said- To me society meant something you found

on Park Avenue.

I felt that league was a stronger word- one that readers could identify with because of

baseball leagues.

Although as we now know the justice society later became its own series.

Coming in at our number 2 spot--teen takes down justice league- in number 16 a criminal

named Maestro uses body controlling music to keep people dancing helplessly while he

robs them.

As sucky as it was that these people were getting robbed at least they were able to

do something fun as it happened.

So the Justice league obviously go after the criminal and with them being the smart heros

they are they plug their ears so they don't get trapped in his musical spell.

But it turns out that's what our villain was counting on – this is when he released

his real weapon which was a ray that hits the motor centers of the brain.

And with this the JLA members danced themselves to death.

But the really surprising fact about all of this was that this story was actually written

by a teenage fan named Jerry Thomas.

After he dreamt up Maestro he became terrified that his scheming would actually work . So

he turned it into a comic and sent it to the league via mail and asked them to find a solution.

With this the story line was changed and The heros became worried that the villain won-

until they realized he made a mistake that saved the league.

And in at number 1--Batman destruction- did you know that batman made a plan to destroy

his own teammates?

As we know over time batman became less of a team player and gradually his character

became a bit darker.

Even when on a team he liked to set his own rules.

And after seeing his team repeatedly get mind controlled and duplicated he figured out ways

he could cripple or kill them…you know just in case.

For example he would induce a water phobia in Aquaman or zap superman with kryptonite.

He didn't act on these thoughts instead he wrote them down.

So basically this was a book on how to destroy his friends.

And of course it ended up in the wrong hands when Ray-sh al Ghool stole the book.

But the league ended up defeating Ray-sh and after finding out what batman did the team

and batman decided to take some time apart.

Yeah cant say I blame them.

But eventually they did reconcile.

I actually cried for three straight days after hearing this is just why I didn't upload a video Wednesday, but your favorite youtuber Jake Paul

is an Internet bully

I'm sure most of these YouTube commentators will be talking about how Jake Paul's and Internet believe which he is let's not get let's not

move past that Jake Paul's an Internet bully but

That's pretty much established at this point. I want to move past that and look at how Jake Paul manipulated

Not only the Martinez twins, but how he emotionally manipulated his fans, Danny. No no no

If you missed the Martinez video and Jake Paul check it out it means long

It's 30 minutes or so so if you don't want to watch that

Understandable, here's it just I don't know if you can tell by doing false videos

But there's no such thing as privacy if the team kind of houses the twins have no sense of privacy

Were asking for a room all the time

Couldn't get their own rooms for whatever reason they slept in the living room where people were having meetings all the time

They tried to move out of the team penthouse

But they wouldn't let them because he was too concerned with the paparazzi saying

Oh, you know the Martinez with maybe 1910 house kind of just moved by dick balls, but for whatever reason

There's no privacy. That was a big issue at one point the twins literally spent

$3,000 building a room inside of the house like they built a wall

I didn't like lived in this like corner of the house, I guess

Anyways when they were gone Jake Paul like smashed it. There was a fan art on the wall

He likes destroyed the whole room

It was like a joke for the blog because you know guys breaking this funny now

but

That was obviously a problem as well

Jenkins Newton also restricted opportunities for the kids like the kids till I couldn't send money home to their parents its wins claim

That's because teams have my thumb about not being able to set up a WS

But regardless the fact that these kids couldn't send money home to their family who needed it. It's kind of crazy

But he treats them differently events it's kind of unfair

Jake Willie seemed to like the twins because they were a stereotype they were people that work from the us that were different and

He kind of just used that to his advantage

Seemed a treatment Twins like a circus act like they're not from the US so it's different and kind of cool

I guess but he made this do things that he didn't make anyone else to like you made them hump each other

He made the twins to fight each other

And he just maybe do weird just because he thought his viewers liked it because ultimately he likes it

And if you're the twins, what are you doing that scenario?

You know Jake's your coworker?

But also your boss at the same time and your landlord

Make this makes me angry man. I'm not even saying this in the video like I have most of this script it out

It's just fucking annoying like my friends, and I used to have these debates

He's just don't even self-serving stuff for his own personal gain

But like that's how I treat people especially gonna call them their family all right now

Hey guys suggested. I started editing this video Jake actually released an apology video to the Martinez on Twitter wish number one. I respect because

You seemed pretty genuine throughout, but also because didn't put on YouTube or it could be monetized so props him for that

It doesn't really matter is the other day

I don't really care how much my drinks weak, Jake Paul's gonna make a money either way

So I don't really think it's a huge sacrifice to make that video on Twitter, but regardless

I have a cup of thought so so here's one missing

I have a couple problems with Jake's apology number one being that he really doesn't take responsibility for she says

I'm sorry that you guys perceived what I did as bullying nobody should ever feel bullied

And I truly apologize for not doing a better job as a leader, and there's a friend

We are in the business of pranking each other in creating video content around those pranks however

It's obvious that with the language barrier between us

the twins weren't always

Fully aware of what was going on and I should have done a better job of making sure they were fully informed about these pranks

What does that really mean?

You know you could say, I'm sorry for singling you guys out

But he chose not to he said I'm sorry that it felt to you guys like I was trying to single you out

I'm sorry that you didn't understand what I was saying while what Jake says might be true at the end of the day

Jake wasn't pulling pranks on chance and

Anthony and Tessa and Erica and all the rest of teams have like he was in the murkiness

But he's waking them up every morning and doing up to them

He's like doing more embarrassing things to them than he was doing to the rest of his crew all those people

I just mentioned before have done pranks. It's definitely true, but for the most part none of them have been as

Uncomfortable as something like where you're humping each other or waking someone up with a container or whatever it may be

The Martinez twins were treated differently than the rest of the group, and you know you might say

That's not true by the end of the day it is true so rather than saying

I'm sorry you didn't take it the way that I want you to take it you should be saying

I'm sorry that I got it wrong. I want to be about yeah. I like that

he said I want to be a better leader be a better leader by saying I

Was wrong I was wrong in this situation if you truly want to improve as a leader and as a person

Take responsibility for your actions. Even if you feel like you were in the right sometimes

The influence that you have over an impressionable group of young people

Be a leader Jake you you're saying you want to be the man you say you

Want the Martinez twins to come and work on sound a person you haven't cried in four years?

You're such a big strong, man

If you want to be the real man that you say you want to be take responsibility for your actions

Disassembling and reassembling king and link pin spindles can be a difficult task.

Removing bushings out and installing new bushings requires an extreme amount of force.

The use of the correct tools will make things much easier but with some stand-ins,

the job can be done in your garage at home.

The only tool that we consider to be a necessity for installing new king pin is a VW king pin reamer.

a .710 inch reamer could be used but will not guarantee that the two bushings are aligned vertically.

A press and proper sized dies are ideal for removing and installing new bushings.

The next alternative would be a proper set of punches, a brass hammer and a bench vise.

In keeping with the theme of "Common tools found in your garage at home",

we use a framing hammer, some extensions and sockets as opposed to punches and a proper hammer.

Our method was not the best we'll admit but it was effective and it got the job done.

With our original spindles cleaned and degreased, the first spindle is securely clamped into its vise.

So the horizontal link pin bushings can be knocked out of the spindle carrier.

An extension [and] a socket are used along with a hammer to tap the upper

and lower bushings through the spindle carrier.

The link pin bushings are usually simple to remove with a few forceful strikes of the hammer.

With the link pin bushings removed, the grease in the carrier is cleaned out of both ends.

Then the spindle is clamped upside down in the vise so the king pin can be driven out the top.

A 6 inch extension, a closed end wrench to act as a guide and a hammer are used to deliver numerous powerful strikes to the king pin.

Note: our extension has started to mushroom out as a reminder of how much force will be needed.

Eventually the pin is driven through,

and with the pin almost out, a 12" extension is used to drive the pin out completely.

The spindle can be slid or tapped out of the carrier in the direction of the grooves on the carrier.

The dust cap, nylon bushing, alignment washer and spindle all come out together.

Save the washer

and the spindle, if you're reusing it.

The cap and the bushing are not reused.

With the spindle carrier still in the vice, a small extension and socket are used to tap out the upper

and lower king pin bushings.

The other spindle assembly is disassembled using the same method

and both spindle carriers are cleaned up a bit more and readied for reassembly.

The cleaned up spindle carrier is clamped back in the bench vise vertically with the bottom side up.

A new king pin bushing is dropped into place.

The bushing is tapped into place using the same extension and socket that we used to remove the old bushings.

The bushing is tapped through the carrier and just slightly past the bottom edge.

The spindle carrier is flipped over and a flat file is used to file the bushing flat with the carrier.

Do not file down the steel carrier. Once you see marks into the carrier stop.

The top bushing is dropped in and installed in the same manner.

Then the spindle is flipped over again and the flat file is used to file the bushing flat with the carrier.

Then the narrow end of the flat file is used to notch the bushing to match the carrier.

Now our one specialty tool, the VW 224 king pin reamer tool, is slid through the upper bushing and aligned with the lower bushing.

We spin the reamer with a crescent wrench and light pressure through the upper

and lower bushings

Then the shavings are all thoroughly cleaned from the spindle carrier

and then it is clamped upright in the vise.

We use a socket below it to keep it from sliding through the vise.

The original alignment washer is tapped into place over the pin, on the new disc brake drop spindle.

Followed by a new greased nylon bushing and a new dust cap.

The angle on the brace for the carrier has a flat side and an angled side.

The flat side sits toward the chassis.

Then angled side sits toward the spindle.

With the steering arm for the spindle at the opposite side of the carrier brace.

Grease is applied to the upper and lower bushings.

Then the spindle is slid into the carrier following the notches in the carrier.

A new greased king pin is dropped through the top hole of the carrier.

With the spindle straight in the carrier, the grease ports are aligned with the holes pointing forward.

The pin is tapped with a good amount of force into place through the upper carrier, into the spindle and the lower carrier.

It is tapped down until it is roughly flushed with the upper king pin bushing.

The assembly is removed from the vise and clamped back in on its side.

So the link pin bushings can be tapped into place.

With drop spindles, installing the lower bushing is simple as there is plenty of clearance for an extension and socket.

Make sure the grease hole in the bushing is pointing towards the king pin to ensure that the grease can enter the bushing.

We start with a similar sized socket and tap the new greased bushing almost flushed with the carrier.

Then we switch to a slightly larger socket to ensure the bushing is installed flush with the carrier and tapped all the way in.

There is less clearance for the top bushing as the drop spindle sits higher to lower the car.

So the spindle is braced by hand against the bench vise.

While carefully tapping the greased bushing into place as squarely as possible.

Again make sure the grease hole points toward the king pin.

We use the same small socket first,

then a large socket is again used to make sure the bushing is flat with the carrier.

The reamer can be used to make sure the bushings are not deformed and will accept the link pins smoothly.

Both the king pins and the link pins are reamed to the same size.

The opposite spindle is assembled in the same manner

and because we installed aftermarket spindles, we double check that both spindles rotate

in the spindle and stop against the stearing stop at the front of the carrier.

Our right spindle was clear but the left side spindle

needed some clearancing which we did with an angle grinder before it hit the steering stop.

This can be caused by manufacturer variances in the casting or milling so double check the operation before installing the spindles on the car.

With the spindles completely assembled they will be painted and once dry, they will be ready to install on the trailing arms.

Christmas angel welcome to Wright ideas with Susan where I put up simple tutorials

to help people like you who give their time to teach children and today it's

all about this little Christmas angel so let's get started.

you're gonna need some origami squares these are lovely patterned pieces of paper pipe cleaners

some of these for the halos and you also need some little hearts sequins for the

mouth you're going to need some styrofoam balls for the head, you're gonna

need some glue stick you're going to need a skewer it's very important to

have a nice thick one and you're gonna need a texta you're gonna need some

scissors and you're gonna need something with a little bit thicker body on it as

well so I'll show you how that works the preparation you have to do is you

actually have to prepare the head and you have to prepare the halo and I

put a hole with the skewer now it's really important you do a decent sized

hole there because the kids have a really hard time putting their pipe

cleaners through if you don't do a good hole that is why I have this paintbrush

because it's a little bit thicker and so I put this through and just push it

through just to get it a little bit wider on the inside to make it easier

for the kids to be able to put their pipe cleaner now the other thing I do is

the same sort of thing with a halo I've also got to make that big enough for the

pipe cleaners to go through it's very simple so that's what's so good about

having this skewer what I instruct the kids to do first is they pick out their

two pieces of paper older kids are pretty good at knowing how to do the fan

we fold it one way and then you flip it the other way and

then back and forth and I find that 10 year olds have no problem with that

anything under 10 you might need helpers and hopefully you have helpers when

you're doing this because it is a little bit finicky and tricky now look at this

this one has a little I've got a little bit crooked so all you have to do take

your scissors and just cut off that little extra bit okay so that'll be the

wings and then this will be the dress

okay so you have your wings and your dress and all you have to do now is get the

kids to fold it in half and you want them to try to meet up the ends so that

they're nice and even and then you fold the wings in half this is gonna be my

wings now the wings need to be a little bit shorter just so it looks nicer and

get the kids is to cut off about a centimetre or two and make the wings a

little bit shorter okay so you have the wings and the dress like that now the

pipe cleaner is important with the older kids there's no problem with these shiny

ones if you're working with younger kids I would go for these because these will

last better and they won't all fall apart like the shiny ones so what they

do is you give them each one of these you get them just to wrap it around once

and then back again and then you get them to just twist it like that and then

put the pipe cleaners together the other thing they need to check is that the

dress is the same if it's a little bit uneven then they can pull it one way or

pull it the other way and make it even so you've got it like that and then all

you do is you put the ends together you thread the head on and this is why that

hole has to be nice and big so they can get the pipe cleaners through and not

get frustrated and then you take the halo and then you

put the halo through like that and then all they do is you can just twist it

then you just take glue stick and you just put glue right in there and you get

them to squeeze it and hold it together so it's nice and tight and all glued

together and you can do this without arms so what you do without arms is you

would just glue in here straight away and then you would just have a little

angel without arms okay so we're gonna do some arms so I would just get piece

of a pipe cleaner just fold it slip it up there like that they just put some

glue under the arms or under the wings and that'll hold it in place and then

you do the other wing glue there and that will hold it in place

you open up the wings like that and the kids can put a little hymn book if they

want and make a little something and put it in the hands of the angel now for the

actual face of the angel it's very simple I just take my little texta or

my marker and just do some little eyes the mouth all you have to do is take glue

stick stick the hearts for the mouth

In Finnish, w is pronounced a bit like an English v sound.

So this is really hard for him. Yeah, and there are other languages where

v sounds like f. fff. So this tongue twister is good practice?

Yes, and it's good for everyone if you want to pronounce clearly. Actors do exercises

like this before they go on stage. It improves their diction - how clearly they

say things. Exactly.

You need to start slowly and then gradually speed up.

For v, you want your top teeth to touch your bottom lip but keep your lips relaxed. V – v

– you should feel a little vibration there. V. What about w?

At the start of making the w sound, you need to make your lips round and a little hard.

Like you're going to kiss someone. Yeah. W is a short sound. W w

V. W. V. W. Very well. Very well. If you look in a mirror, you should see your

lips go round at the start of 'well'. Well.

Try saying it with our learners. Very well, very well, very well.

A Zombie Star That Just Won't Die - Duration: 5:04.

[♪ INTRO]

Astronomers are always finding weird stuff in the universe.

But sometimes, their discoveries are especially strange… and maybe a little spooky.

According to a paper published last week in Nature, astronomers have found a star about

500 million light-years away that just won't quit.

It appears to have died and come back to life multiple times, almost like… a zombie star.

When really large stars run out of fuel, they can explode in gigantic,

beautiful explosions called supernova.

And scientists can describe them using graphs called light curves.

A light curve shows you how bright an object is over some amount of time.

For a supernova, the curve should look really bright at first, because it's exploding,

and then it should taper off as everything disperses and cools.

Normally, a supernova doesn't stay bright for long: only about 100 days.

And it only happens once because, well, the star is dead after that.

But the light curve for this new supernova, called iPTF14hls, which is so easy to remember,

has all kinds of fun bumps in it, like it's pulsing.

And even though we discovered it in 2014, it's still really bright three years later.

It's also way brighter than your average, garden-variety supernova!

So far, we've recorded it being almost three and a half billion times as bright as the Sun,

while regular supernova usually aren't more than 500 million times brighter.

But the weirdest part is that this object might have exploded before!

After seeing how strange it was, the team searched through previous research for

similar phenomena, and they found an explosion recorded in the same spot in 1954!

So, it seems like the star died about 60 years ago,

but then made a comeback and exploded again.

Right now, there isn't a full explanation for its behavior,

but part of it may have to do with its mass.

The team calculated that, before it exploded,

the star was at least 50 times the mass of the Sun, and probably a lot bigger than it.

And even though we've found thousands of supernova,

we haven't yet seen a star that big die, so it could work differently than expected.

Another, even cooler option is that this may be

the first recorded pulsational pair-instability supernova, or PPISN.

This is something scientists have modeled, but never observed in real life.

The idea is that, a star that's massive and hot enough might start manufacturing pairs

of electrons and their antimatter opposite: positively-charged particles called positrons.

And creating these pairs might drive the supernova's weird pulses.

Making them uses up energy that the star would normally use to stop itself from collapsing.

But since it is used up, the star contracts.

That causes more elements to burn in the star's core, which gives off a bunch of extra light,

until the star eventually cools down and expands.

And then the cycle begins again.

So, more pulses.

Still, the team also doesn't think a PPISN could fully explain what's happening,

because we think those supernova get rid of most of their hydrogen early on,

while this one has lots of hydrogen leftover.

Plus, in this recent explosion, the mystery supernova has about

ten times more energy than what PPISNs should.

So it remains under close observation!

This week, astronomers reported another mystery in the journal Nature,

but this time, it was about Pluto, and they've solved it!

As it turns out, Pluto is super cold, which believe it or not, is unexpected.

Okay, we already knew it must be kinda cold,

because it's tiny and billions of kilometers from the Sun.

But after New Horizons flew by in 2015,

we found that it's about 40 degrees Celsius cooler than we thought.

According to new research, that's probably because it has a unique atmosphere.

Studying an object's atmosphere is crucial to understanding its temperature,

because atmospheres are normally fluffy, regulating planetary blankets.

On most planets, it's the gases in the atmosphere that do the regulating,

like how carbon dioxide influences Earth's temperature.

But on Pluto, it's not the gases: It's haze, or something a little like smog.

From previous research, we already knew that Pluto has a somewhat hazy atmosphere,

because light passing close to its surface was dimmer than we'd expect.

New Horizons confirmed that, but it also found that the hazes are more abundant

and stretch higher than we thought: about 700 kilometers above the surface.

Still, that didn't explain why Pluto is so cold.

But before we could learn more, New Horizons flew off farther into the Kuiper Belt,

so we couldn't gather the data to explore this temperature problem.

And that's where modeling stepped in.

A team of scientists built a new and improved model of Pluto's atmosphere, and they found that,

if they set it up so that hazes were the main thing controlling Pluto's temperature,

the model matched the New Horizons data!

In other words, Pluto's atmospheric hazes are mainly what's making it so cold,

not its gases.

That haze is likely made of lots of bigger hydrocarbons, which formed when light

drove certain chemical reactions, a lot like how smog can form on Earth.

Those molecules are really great at sucking up energy,

but they're also great at radiating it away.

The hydrocarbons distribute the heat among themselves really rapidly,

then force a lot of that heat into the upper atmosphere, where it spreads into space.

And that leaves Pluto extra chilly.

As far as we know, the only place in the solar system

with a temperature controlled by hazes like this is Pluto!

And since hazes seem to play an important role in the atmosphere of some exoplanets,

this research might also help us explore worlds farther away.

That little dwarf planet just keeps impressing us!

So this week, all kinds of expectations are being thrown overboard in the solar system!

And I'm sure that is not the last time I'll say that.

�When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course

of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code

Americans can no longer afford to get sick and there�s a reason why.

That�s because a growing number of Americans are struggling to stretch their dollars far

enough to pay their bills, get out of debt and ensure that if and when an illness arises,

it doesn�t bankrupt them.

This is a reality that no amount of partisan political bickering can deny.

Many Americans can no longer afford health insurance, drug costs or hospital bills. They

can�t afford to pay rising healthcare premiums, out-of-pocket deductibles and prescription

drug bills.

They can�t afford to live, and now they can�t afford to get sick or die, either.

To be clear, my definition of �affordable healthcare� is different from the government�s.

To the government, you can �afford� to pay for healthcare if your income falls above

the poverty line. That takes no account of rising taxes, the cost of living, the cost

to clothe and feed a household, the cost of transportation and communication and education,

or any of the other line items that add up to a life worth living.

As Helaine Olen points out in The Atlantic:

�Just because a person is insured, it doesn�t mean he or she can actually afford their doctor,

hospital, pharmaceutical, and other medical bills. The point of insurance is to protect

patients� finances from the costs of everything from hospitalizations to prescription drugs,

but out-of-pocket spending for people even with employer-provided health insurance has

increased by more than 50 percent since 2010.� For too many Americans, achieving any kind

of quality of life has become a choice between putting food on the table and paying one�s

bills or health care coverage.

It�s a gamble any way you look at it, and the medical community is not helping.

Healthcare costs are rising, driven by a medical, insurance and pharmaceutical industry that

are getting rich off the sick and dying.

Indeed, Americans currently pay $3.4 trillion a year for medical care. We spent more than

$10,000 per person on health care in 2016. Those attempting to shop for health insurance

coverage right now are understandably experiencing sticker shock with premiums set to rise 34%

in 2018. It�s estimated that costs may rise as high as $15,000 by 2023.

As Bloomberg reports, �Rising health-care costs are eating up the wage gains won by

American workers, who are being asked by their employers to pick up more of the heftier tab�

The cost of buying health coverage at work has increased faster than wages and inflation

for years, pressuring household budgets.�

Appallingly, Americans spend more than any developed country on healthcare and have less

to show for it. We don�t live as long, we have higher infant mortality rates, we have

fewer hospital and physician visits, and the quality of our healthcare is generally worse.

We also pay astronomical amounts for prescription drugs, compared to other countries.

Whether or not you�re insured through an employer, the healthcare marketplace, a government-subsidized

program such as Medicare or Medicaid, or have no health coverage whatsoever, it�s still

�we the consumers� who have to pay to subsidize the bill whenever anyone gets sick

in this country. And that bill is a whopper.

While Obamacare (a.k.a. the Affordable Care Act) may have made health insurance more accessible

to greater numbers of individuals, it has failed to make healthcare any more affordable.

Why?

As journalist Laurie Meisler concludes, �One big reason U.S. health care costs are so high:

pharmaceutical spending. The U.S. spends more per capita on prescription medicines and over-the-counter

products than any other country.�

One investigative journalist spent seven months analyzing hundreds of bills from hospitals,

doctors, drug companies, and medical equipment manufacturers. His findings confirmed what

we�ve known all along: health care in America is just another way of making corporations

rich at consumer expense.

An examination of an itemized hospital bill (only available upon request) revealed an

amazing amount of price gouging. Tylenol, which you can buy for less than $10 for a

bottle, was charged to the patient at a rate of $15 per pill, for a total of $345 for a

hospital stay. $8 for a plastic bag to hold the patient�s personal items and another

$8 for a box of Kleenex. $23 for a single alcohol swab. $53 per pair for non-sterile

gloves (adding up to $5,141 for the entire hospital stay). $10 for plastic cup in which

to take one�s medicine. $93 for the use of an overhead light during a surgical procedure.

$39 each time you want to hold your newborn baby. And $800 for a sterile water IV bag

that costs about a dollar to make.

This is clearly not a problem that can be remedied by partisan politics.

The so-called Affordable Care Act pushed through by the Obama administration is proving to

be anything but affordable for anyone over the poverty line. And the Trump administration�s

�fixes� promise to be no better. Indeed, for too many Americans who live paycheck to

paycheck and struggle just to get by, the tax penalty for not having health insurance

will actually be cheaper than trying to find affordable coverage that actually pays for

care.

This is how the middle classes, who fuel the nation�s economy and fund the government�s

programs, get screwed repeatedly.

When almost 60% of Americans are so financially strapped that they don�t have even $500

in savings and nothing whatsoever put away for retirement, and yet they are being forced

to pay for government programs that do little to enhance their lives, we�re not living

the American dream.

We�re living a financial nightmare.

We have no real say in how the government runs, or how our taxpayer funds are used,

but that doesn�t prevent the government from fleecing us at every turn and forcing

us to pay for endless wars that do more to fund the military industrial complex than

protect us, pork barrel projects that produce little to nothing, and a police state that

serves only to imprison us within its walls.

We have no real say, but we�re being forced to pay through the nose, anyhow.

George Harrison, who died 16 years ago this month, summed up this outrageous state of

affairs in his song Taxman:

If you drive a car, I�ll tax the street, If you try to sit, I�ll tax your seat.

If you get too cold I�ll tax the heat, If you take a walk, I�ll tax your feet.

Don�t ask me what I want it for If you don�t want to pay some more

�Cause I�m the taxman, yeah, I�m the taxman

Now my advice for those who die Declare the pennies on your eyes

�Cause I�m the taxman, yeah, I�m the taxman

And you�re working for no one but me. In other words, in the eyes of the government,

�we the people, the voters, the consumers, and the taxpayers� are little more than

indentured servants and sources of revenue.

If you have no choice, no voice, and no real options when it comes to the government�s

claims on your property and your money, you�re not free.

Consider: The government can seize your home and your car (which you�ve bought and paid

for) over nonpayment of taxes. Government agents can freeze and seize your bank accounts

and other valuables if they merely �suspect� wrongdoing. And the IRS insists on getting

the first cut of your salary to pay for government programs over which you have no say.

It wasn�t always this way, of course.

Early Americans went to war over the inalienable rights described by philosopher John Locke

as the natural rights of life, liberty and property.

It didn�t take long, however�a hundred years, in fact�before the American government

was laying claim to the citizenry�s property by levying taxes to pay for the Civil War.

As the New York Times reports, �Widespread resistance led to its repeal in 1872.�

Determined to claim some of the citizenry�s wealth for its own uses, the government reinstituted

the income tax in 1894. Charles Pollock challenged the tax as unconstitutional, and the U.S.

Supreme Court ruled in his favor. Pollock�s victory was relatively short-lived. Members

of Congress�united in their determination to tax the American people�s income�worked

together to adopt a constitutional amendment to overrule the Pollock decision.

On the eve of World War I, in 1913, Congress instituted a permanent income tax by way of

the 16th Amendment to the Constitution and the Revenue Act of 1913. Under the Revenue

Act, individuals with income exceeding $3,000 could be taxed starting at 1% up to 7% for

incomes exceeding $500,000.

It�s all gone downhill from there.

Unsurprisingly, the government has used its tax powers to advance its own imperialistic

agendas and the courts have repeatedly upheld the government�s power to penalize or jail

those who refused to pay their taxes.

Irwin A. Schiff was one of the nation�s most vocal tax protesters. He spent a good

portion of his life arguing that the income tax was unconstitutional. He paid the price

for his resistance, too: Schiff served three separate prison terms (more than 10 years

in all) over his refusal to pay taxes. He died at the age of 87 serving a 14-year prison

term. As constitutional activist Robert L. Schulz noted in Schiff�s obituary, �In

a society where there is so much fear of government, and in particular of the I.R.S., [Schiff]

was probably the most influential educator regarding the illegal and unconstitutional

operation and enforcement of the Internal Revenue Code. It�s very hard to speak to

power, but he did, and he paid a very heavy price.�

It�s still hard to speak to power, and those who do are still paying a very heavy price.

All the while the government continues to do whatever it likes�levy taxes, rack up

debt, spend outrageously and irresponsibly�with little thought for the plight of its citizens.

The national debt is $20 trillion and growing. The amount this country owes is now greater

than its gross national product(all the products and services produced in one year by labor

and property supplied by the citizens). We�re paying more than $270 billion just in interest

on that debt annually. And the top two foreign countries who �own� our debt are China

and Japan.

To top it all off, all of those wars the U.S. is so eager to fight abroad are being waged

with borrowed funds. As The Atlanticreports, �For 15 years now, the United States has

been putting these wars on a credit card� U.S. leaders are essentially bankrolling the

wars with debt, in the form of purchases of U.S. Treasury bonds by U.S.-based entities

like pension funds and state and local governments, and by countries like China and Japan.�

If Americans managed their personal finances the way the government mismanages the nation�s

finances, we�d all be in debtors� prison by now.

Still, the government remains unrepentant, unfazed and undeterred in its money grabs.

While we�re struggling to get by, and making tough decisions about how to spend what little

money actually makes it into our pockets after the federal, state and local governments take

their share (this doesn�t include the stealth taxes imposed through tolls, fines and other

fiscal penalties), the police state is spending our hard-earned tax dollars to further entrench

its powers and entrap its citizens.

For instance, American taxpayers have been forced to shell out $5.6 trillion since 9/11

for the military industrial complex�s costly, endless so-called �war on terrorism.�

That translates to roughly $23,000 per taxpayer to wage wars abroad, occupy foreign countries,

provide financial aid to foreign allies, and fill the pockets of defense contractors and

grease the hands of corrupt foreign dignitaries.

Mind you, that staggering $6 trillion is only a portion of what the Pentagon spends on America�s

military empire.

That price tag keeps growing, too.

The 16-year war in Afghanistan, which now stands as the longest and one of the most

expensive wars in U.S. history, is about to get even longer and more costly, thanks to

President Trump�s promise to send more troops over.

In this way, the military industrial complex will get even richer, and the American taxpayer

will be forced to shell out even more funds for programs that do little to enhance our

lives, ensure our happiness and well-being, or secure our freedoms.

As Dwight D. Eisenhower warned in a 1953 speech:

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final

sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers,

the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy

bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants,

each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals.

It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half

million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed

more than 8,000 people. This is, I repeat, the best way of life to be found on the road

the world has been taking. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the

cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron. [�] Is there no other

way the world may live? This is still no way of life.

Yet it�s not just the government�s endless wars that are bleeding us dry.

We�re also being forced to shell out money for surveillance systems to track our movements,

money to further militarize our already militarized police, money to allow the government to raid

our homes and bank accounts, money to fund schools where our kids learn nothing about

freedom and everything about how to comply, and on and on.

Are you getting the picture yet?

The government isn�t taking our money to make our lives better. Just take a look at

the nation�s failing infrastructure, and you�ll see how little is being spent on

programs that advance the common good.

We�re being robbed blind so the governmental elite can get richer.

This is nothing less than financial tyranny.

�We the people� have become the new, permanent underclass in America.

It�s tempting to say that there�s little we can do about it, except that�s not quite

accurate.

There are a few things we can do (demand transparency, reject cronyism and graft, insist on fair

pricing and honest accounting methods, call a halt to incentive-driven government programs

that prioritize profits over people), but it will require that �we the people� stop

playing politics and stand united against the politicians and corporate interests who

have turned our government and economy into a pay-to-play exercise in fascism.

We�ve become so invested in identity politics that label us based on our political leanings

that we�ve lost sight of the one label that unites us: we�re all Americans.

As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, the powers-that-be

want to pit us against one another. They want us to adopt an �us versus them� mindset

that keeps us powerless and divided. Trust me, the only �us versus them� that matters

anymore is �we the people� against the police state.

We�re all in the same boat, folks, and there�s only one real life preserver: that�s the

Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The Constitution starts with those three powerful words: �We the people.�

The message is this: there is power in our numbers.

That remains our greatest strength in the face of a governmental elite that continues

to ride roughshod over the populace. It remains our greatest defense against a government

that has claimed for itself unlimited power over the purse (taxpayer funds) and the sword

(military might). As Patrick Henry declared in the last speech before his death, �United

we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions � or � exhaust [our strength]

in civil commotions and intestine wars.�

This holds true whether you�re talking about health care, war spending, or the American

police state.
