Good morning and welcome to a new video!
Today we are in the jungle, in Cape Tribulation.
This is actually the most northern place on the East Coast
where you can get without a 4WD car.
We hired a car from Cairns with some hostel mates
and came here yesterday.
I´m in the center of Cape Tribulation now.
Over there is a supermarket slash souvenir shop.
Over there is our hostel.
On the other side there´s a small cafe
And some crocodile cruises and other safari things.
Other than that there´s nothing else in this city - I mean a little village.
It takes about 2-3 hours to drive here (from Cairns)
but we stopped in many places.
The first stop was in Port Douglas where we had some coffee
and actually we´ll stay there tonight.
After Port Douglas the Daintree Rainforest area started.
It´s the oldest rainforest in the world.
We saw a Q&A card in a restaurant which said
that it´s about 150 million years old.
I´ve read somewhere that it´s 100-180 million years old.
So there are different opinions.
I´ve no idea how old one single tree can be
I don´t think they´re that old...
We took a walk in a place called Mossman Gorge
There´s a river and we did a 2 km walk in the rainforest.
The trees were so cool!
We stopped for some other short walks too
To get to Cape Tribulation
you have to cross the Daintree River
with a ferry.
And then you get to the northern side of the rainforest.
The road is so cool because you´re
driving in the middle of the rainforest.
Yesterday the weather wasn't´t the best possible.
It was raining a lot when we left in the morning
but it got better by the time we got to Mossman Gorge.
However it was raining every now and then.
Once we got a little wet but luckily the trees covered us a little.
We didn´t check out any of the beaches on the road
because the weather was what it was
but today we´ve a blue sky
and we´re super excited because
now we can stop at the beaches on the way back.
I also read somewhere, probably Wikipedia,
that there are 19 original tree families in the world.
And there are 12 tree families here in Daintree Rainforest.
So there are supposed to be the biggest number of different trees in the world here.
If I understood correctly.
I´m travelling with Maik and Meghan from my hostel in Cairns.
We figured we all had similar plans
to visit Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation.
And because you can only get here by car
or on a organised day trip
we decided to hire a car for two days.
But now, let´s go to the Cape Tribulation Beach!
Okay, the views are pretty cool here at the beach.
On a low tide you can walk pretty far
I´m not sure where this route takes you
probably just north along the beach.
Next stop is by a small island.
I don´t know the name of it.
But here we are, having a snack break!
We´ve made it to the next beach.
You gotta drive 4 km on a small road to get here.
We just found a boat that you can use for free
you could go to that island!
Today it´s Maik´s birthday
so we´re having some drinks.
And we´re hoping to get to go sailing
because on Wednesdays they have "Wednesday Sailing"
and you can go sailing for free.
So we´re hoping we´ll find us a captain and get to go on a boat!
We found a boat and got to go sailing!
There are maybe about 20 people on this one.
The way the system works is that
every Wednesday people get to go on free sailing trips
The captains invite people on their boats
Today about 100 people had written their names on the list
and there were spots for about 70
so everybody didn't´t get to go.
But we´re super happy that we got a boat.
We´re back at the yacht club.
We stayed for dinner
and sat with the other people from our boat.
Now we´ll go and find a hostel
and go to sleep so
