North Korea's participation in the PyeongChang 2018 still unknown amid various efforts ... - Duration: 5:06.

Less than 3 months before Pyeongchang hosts the winter games.

And still, no word from North Korea on whether they'll be a part of the global event.

Looking back to 1988, the regime boycotted the Seoul Olympics and... it's possible the

regime may make the same decision again.

Lee Ji-won gauge the chances of the North offering a pleasant surprise, and also highlights

the significance of the two Koreas celebrating sports as one.

In previous international sporting events, South Korea and North Korea have worked together

and sought to improve their relationship through sports.

In the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan... the two Koreas competed

as a unified team under the name 'Korea'.

The two even marched in together during the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2000

Sydney Olympics and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, among other sporting events.

With the 2018 Winter Olympics being held in South Korea's Pyeongchang,... many have expressed

hope that the two would participate in the games together,… or even just that North

Korea would turn up to the games.

(Kor- Sept. 21, 2017) "I warmly welcome North Korea's participation

in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, and will make wholehearted endeavors till the end,

in cooperation with the IOC, to make that happen."

The North's participation in next year's Winter Games would hold much meaning, as it would

contribute to realizing the Olympic values of friendship and peace, and could even help

alleviate the current tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Currently, North Korea has only qualified for one event: pairs figure skating,... where

Ryom Tae-ok and Kim Ju-sik grabbed their tickets to Pyeongchang in September.

And according to the International Skating Union,... Pyongyang told them last month,

that it was willing to use that spot.

But with no clear statement officially given by North Korea yet,... experts have differing

views on whether the reclusive regime will join the global sporting event.

(Kor) "Through the Olympics, North Korea would want

to show the world that it's not the antagonist, and that it's part of the international community.

Also, Pyongyang's latest missile launch dates back to September,.. and tensions are now

relatively lower on the Korean peninsula.

So seeing the current situation, I think there is more chance of Pyongyang joining the games."

Some experts have also noted North Korea's active participation in previous global sporting

events.

(Kor) "From the World Championships to the Olympics,...

North Korea has been quite active in participating in sporting events.

Although Pyongyang has shut down exchanges with the world in many aspects, 'sports' is

one exception."

In fact, though the North failed to qualify for the last Games in Sochi, it did participate

in the two Olympics prior to that.

But there are others who are less hopeful.

(Eng) "If you look at the situation from Pyongyang,

it's quite clear that North Korea has nothing to gain if it attends the Olympic games.

Their current policy is to have no interaction with the South Korean government and they

don't see why they will change such a policy because of the PyeongChang Olympic games."

He added that North Korea would not want to create the impression that the relationship

between the two Koreas is good,... as they want South Korean President Moon Jae-in to

either choose between them and the United States.

While North Korea's decision is still unknown, the South Korean government and the International

Olympic Committee are working to bring Pyongyang to the games.

The IOC last month announced that it's willing to cover all costs for the North Korean athletes

through its Olympic Solidarity program if North Korea participates in the 2018 Winter

Games.

And to increase opportunities for North Korean athletes to take part in the games,...

South Korea and the IOC are also discussing giving Pyongyang a wildcard,.. or even holding

friendly matches on the sidelines.

Although discussions with North Korea can only go through the single IOC channel, experts

say Seoul can work to create an environment that induces Pyongyang to attend the 2018

Winter Games.

(Kor) "With the next Olympics to be held in Japan

and China,...

South Korea should invite leaders of the two countries to PyeongChang next year, promoting

the event as a floor of discussion and hopefully making it a cornerstone towards a peaceful

Northeast Asia."

With expectations that North Korea will announce its decision at the last minute, South Korea's

culture minister, Do Jong-hwan, said that Seoul will wait until as late as February

in its effort to make the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics truly a festival of peace.

What Would Happen If You Never Woke Up? - Duration: 3:08.

Hey there, welcome to Life Noggin!

Let's say that one day, you get hit in the head with a baseball.

Ouch.

It hurt but you brush it off.

You go home and go to sleep, but, what if that hit did more damage than you thought?

What if you never woke up?

A coma is a prolonged state of unconsciousness.

Someone in a coma is unresponsive to touch, sound and pain.

There's minimal brain activity and the patient may not be able to swallow or breathe on their own.

Usually, comas don't last more than a few weeks but sometimes people never wake up.

The roots of consciousness aren't fully understood but it's believed that for humans

to be awake and conscious, a few things in the brain need to be functioning properly.

First, the Reticular Activating System, a group of neurons that dictates wakefulness,

needs to be in good shape.

Second, both cerebral hemispheres of your brain need to be fully intact.

A coma is the result of either a dysfunction of the RAS, or damage to both cerebral

hemispheres.

This can happen in a number of ways.

Traumatic brain injury.

A stroke.

Drug or alcohol overdose.

A brain tumor.

A really bad infection.

Even diabetes can lead to a coma.

But, what's really going on when you're in a coma?

In a comatose state, brain activity is minimal but the brain is still alive and consuming

energy from the body.

The brain's networks are rerouted.

So, normally active areas go quiet and usually dark areas light up with activity.

As for the actual experience, different people recall different things.

Many remember terrifying visions of torture and death.

Others remember happy dreams with loved ones.

But some don't remember anything at all about their coma.

They remember riding their bike, getting hit by a car and then all of a sudden, they're

lying in a hospital bed six months later.

I hope they get some free jello out of it at least.

Some people say they could hear conversations happening around them when they were in their

coma and there's actually science to back that up!

Researchers found that comatose people can hear and that hearing loved ones voices even

increases neural activity

and speeds recovery!

Another study found that some comatose patients can feel pain, even if they don't respond

to it!

So being in a coma that was the result of a serious injury could be super painful.

And you couldn't even ask for more pain meds!

It's hard to know for sure if someone in a coma will wake up

but something commonly used by doctors to monitor a patient's status is the Glasgow

Coma Scale.

A higher score on this scale means that someone could be more likely to recover.

Some people even wake up from their comas fully functional!

But others don't.

It's not uncommon for a person to wake up from a coma with serious physical or mental

disabilities, like amnesia.

And some people never wake up at all.

A coma can progress into a persistent vegetative state or even locked-in syndrome,

when a person is aware of themselves and their surroundings but cannot speak or move.

Consumer sentiment rose to highest level in nearly 7 years - Duration: 2:16.

South Korea's consumer sentiment index reaches its highest level in almost seven years.

November's digits also show... people are expecting the real estate market to cool down,...

and the central bank, raise interest rates.

Kim Ji-yeon has an analysis of the key indicator of future consumption.

Consumer sentiment reached its highest level in more than six years and eleven months in

November,... as relations between South Korea and China improved... and geopolitical risks

stemming from North Korean threats waned.

Data by the Bank of Korea shows the composite consumer sentiment index has risen by more

than three-points from the previous month to 112-point-3.

The index jumped during the February to July period on high expectations after a newly

elected government,... but dropped for two consecutive months leading up to September

on rising North Korean provocations.

A reading above 100 means more people are optimistic than pessimistic about the economy.

The same data showed less people expect the strong upward trend in real estate prices

to continue,... mainly due to government measures unveiled earlier this year to curb housing

speculation.

It was the first time since July that consumer sentiment on real estate prices dropped,...

falling to 106... down four points from the previous month.

Expectations on rises in household income stayed the same as the previous month at 104...

while job prospects rose for the first time in five months.

Expectations of an interest rate hike reached their highest level since July 2011,... in

anticipation that the Bank of Korea will raise the main benchmark interest rate later this

month... from the current record-low of one-and-a-quarter-percent.

(Korean ) ""There was a dissenter who called for an

interest rate hike in last month's BOK monetary policy committee... and robust Q3 growth on

the back of surging exports... could provide support for such a move."

The expert added however that since a rate hike would put more burden on households in

repaying their debt... he projected that the BOK will be more cautious in raising the interest

rate next year.

Eight men claiming to be N. Koreans washed ashore in Japan - Duration: 0:36.

Eight fishermen who claim to be from North Korea... have been taken into police custody

in Japan.

They were found in their boat... washed ashore in the northwestern coast of the country on

Thursday.

Although the vessel was broken down, none of the men appeared to have sustained serious

injuries.

Investigation into the incident will include the possibility of illegal fishing.

The fishermen's nationality and their intention to defect has not been confirmed yet.

Tokyo occasionally rescue North Koreans from wrecks off the coast.

There are times the crew onboard are found dead... after drifting out in the sea for

too long.

N. Korea's request for dialogue with UN rejected due to U.S. opposition - Duration: 1:50.

There are reports North Korea actually reached out for a dialogue with the UN two months

ago.

Isolated from the rest of the world for so long,... it's possible the hermit kingdom

wished to express objection to the international sanctions piling up.

But according to our Oh Jung-hee, the requet was rejected... mainly due to Washington's

opposition.

North Korea asked the UN chief to open up dialogue between Pyongyang and the UN two

months ago... according to Tokyo-based Kyodo News Agency on Friday.

Quoting various diplomatic sources familiar with the UN,... the agency reported...

North Korea's foreign minister Ri Yong-ho asked for a dialogue channel with the UN Secretariat

in late September,... when he had a closed-door meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio

Guterres.

It's known... that the Secretary-General avoided giving a direct answer to this request,...

but expressed concern over the tensions on the Korean peninsula.

He also called on the regime to abide by UN resolutions and stop nuclear and missile development.

Later, Jeffrey Feltman, the UN's Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, discussed this matter

with a high-level U.S. official.

And due to U.S. opposition,... a dialogue between North Korea and the UN couldn't be

achieved.

Kyodo reported... that there could have been diverging views among the permanent members

of the UN Security Council... as China and Russia were FOR this dialogue.

It's been speculated... that the North wanted an international conversation to claim that

the sanctions against Pyongyang are unreasonable.

North Korea's representatives to the UN are continuously demanding for a global forum

that involves law experts... to verify the legality of the UN's sanctions resolutions.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in visits quake-hit city of Pohang - Duration: 3:18.

It's been more than a week since a 5-point-4 magnitude earthquake hit the nation's southeast.

Many are still severely affected by the rare natural disaster, especially in Pohang.

Which is why President Moon Jae-in paid a visit to the port city to personally provide

reassurance... that everything will be okay from here on and to check on the recovery

efforts made thus far.

Our chief presidential office correspondent Moon Connyoung starts us off.

In skittish Pohang city, still reeling from last week's rare 5-point-4 magnitude earthquake,

President Moon Jae-in looks to speed up the recovery underway and console the hearts rattled

by the quake.

(Korean) "I can just imagine how shocked you must have

been."

.

(Korean) "We are just thankful that we are still alive.

We are thankful for that but now we just don't know how to make ends meet as our lives have

been destroyed."

Visiting the tremor-hit region for the first time since the initial quake nine days ago,

Mr. Moon lent an ear to the authorities in charge for a thorough briefing of the current

situation.

And, also to those who were forced out of their homes seeking refuge at makeshift shelters.

(Korean) "We hope there is a place for us to return

when we leave the shelter.

Another thing is that none of us here were affluent to begin with.

We ask for government support at least until we get back to our homes."

The president offered consolation to local residents suffering not only from the initial

quake but the more than 60 aftershocks that have followed since November 15th.

(Korean) "We will speed up the process of tearing down

uninhabitable buildings and provide housing for residents there.

, When hit by such a huge disaster, property

damage is of great concern but we should also be mindful of psychological wounds.

The government will provide psychological therapy and counseling, as well."

But, the president's first stop upon arrival in the southeastern city was a local high

school to cheer up the seniors who were forced to take the exam of their lifetime under the

fear of possible aftershocks.

Instead, the South Korean leader got a whole lot of cheer himself.

President Moon explained that it was a very difficult decision to postpone the annual

college entrance exam following the earthquake in Pohang as it affects nearly 600-thousand

college applicants all across the nation.

He thanked the seniors in the quake-stricken city for braving through the exam, which was

taken a week after the initially scheduled date, as well as the hundreds of thousands

of test-takers in other parts of the country who bore with the inconvenience for the quake-affected

students.

(Korean) "I believe that in such big hearts of the

Korean people lives hope for the Republic of Korea.

. Being considerate and mindful of the minority;

I believe there lies the hope for a better future for this country."

Rode VideoMic Me Android iPhone Review - Duration: 4:06.

In my third of six videos that I'm making about simple easy microphones

that I use, today I'm to be talking about this little guy.

It is the Rode Vide Mic Me. My name is Sue Ferreira from Wisdom To Wealth Mastery,

where I show you how to take all the wisdom, you've got up here, which other

people need across the planet. I show you how to take it to the world using video,

which is the most powerful way we have today, to connect, extend our reach

etcetera etcetera. Let's get back to this little guy. In my previous two

videos I was talking about wired lav mics or lapel mics, but sometimes you

don't want to be wired, you don't want to be connected. You want a little bit of

freedom, so this is where this little guy comes in. Rode has also made two other

microphones, with similar names, of sort of similar sizes. They've also made the

Rode VideoMicro Compact and the Rode VideoMic Pro, so you've got three mics,

all quite similar and with similar names. I think that's pretty confusing. The

Rode VideoMic Me is only for phones, the other two, the VideoMic Pro

and the VideoMicro Compact are for cameras, although you can always adapt a

camera microphone for a smartphone and that'll be a subject of another video.

Maybe I'll make that video number seven. Let's get back to the benefits of

this little guy. It's very small and it plugs directly into a smartphone just

like that. It has a little stabilizer that comes on the back, that allows it to

clip into any sized smartphone, that stabilizes it. You can have this

microphone towards you, when you are videoing yourself or you can flip it

around and record from this camera and record the audio coming in from someone

you're interviewing or someone ahead of you. I use this particular microphone

when I'm videoing outdoors, but like all microphones, when you're outdoors, if

there's a little bit of wind, you can get a significant amount of wind

crackle coming into the microphone. A kind of cover that you might see on

microphones to reduce wind noise is kind of a furry thing, that's known as a

dead cat well. This microphone comes with a mega dead cat. I

don't know whether I should call this, I don't know, a dead mountain lion, but it

is pretty huge for the size of the microphone. I tell you it works

really well, when it's windy. You just take the dead cat, pop it over the

microphone and now you can do good video, in a remarkably high wind, with

this very large dead cat. Before you ever invest in this microphone, check that

your camera on your smartphone is at the opposite end from your headphone/

microphone jack, because, as you can imagine, if your camera is on the

same end or the same side as your microphone jack and you put on this dead

cat - well - I think most of your video is going to be dead cat fur, isn't it? It

won't work, so you do need to have a camera that is at the other end from

your your microphone jack. I recommend this microphone, whenever you want to do

some video outdoors and you don't want to be wired up in any way. That is it!
