Takich budynków potrzebujemy w Polsce! | Architecture is a good idea - Duration: 7:06.Dutch architecture is known for two reasons.
On the one hand there are bold, daring designs, while on the other - focus on the commodity of buildings.
Now we're in Spijkenisse.
If this name doesn't sound familiar, you're not alone, I had no idea about it just a short while ago.
It's a small town on the outskirts of Rotterdam.
I guess, if it weren't for this video's co-author, Natalia, I wouldn't be coming here
and making this video about that building.
That is De Boekenberg. Literally - book mountain.
A library opened in 2012, designed by the renowned architectural practice MVRDV
The architects wanted to construct a building that would become an advertisement for reading and the literary culture.
Let's see if they succeeded. Let's take a closer look at Boekenberg!
Well, I need to admit that after two hours on a plane, then over an hour on a train and an hour on a ligh trail I'm a bit... disappointed.
The building does not look like on all those amazing photos on the Internet.
The weather is not great.
And the building's a giant glass... barn. It looks a bit heavy and rough.
But, as one shouldn't judge a book by its cover, I decided not to judge The Book Mountain by its outer shell.
Because the point if this building - the mountain of books - is hidden inside.
The inner structure has been designed like a stepped pyramid or a ziggurat.
The area of the floors is getting smaller as you go up.
And together they form a recessing structure.
The floors are linked by stairs placed in different places throughout the building.
It is covered with a glass roof having a very simple form and a wooden structural system.
This name "Book Mountain" is very fitting.
It seems to me, while I'm here, as if it is formed by taking all bookshelves from an apartment and stacking them up in one room.
The impression that I have here is not of a grand institution, a palace of culture meant to intimidate.
On the contrary! I feel as if in a living room of a friend, who just so happens, has many books,
and who likes to see them and show them to his guests,
and invites his friends to come and enjoy his collection.
All the walls of this inner structure - this ziggurat or stepped pyramid - are lined with bookshelves.
I feel as if I was visiting someone.
The concept of walking around this building to resemble climbing a mountain is a bit pawky.
The Netherlands are almost completely flat, and there are no high mountains in this country.
And here one can experience this building by hiking its different stairways and discovering different sights.
While also discovering the basic materials with which the Book Mountain has been built.
We're walking on brick floors, the walls are made of brick.
The shelves are made from a material with a warmer feel to it, above us is the wooden canopy of the roof.
This isn't a mighty institution. It's a place where one wants to spend time.
A walk through this place is a surprise every few steps.
Now, a narrow, cosy corridor with some sculptures.
But a few steps farther - a large, bright, open space opens up
where a cafe can be opened, or meetings with writers can be orginazed.
But hey, this space is large and bright, and this entire building is very well lit with sunlight.
It is as if we were outside, only protected from rain with the glass roof.
But books and sunlight are things that do not mix well.
Light can damage books that are made of delicate paper.
And generally in libraries such large amounts of light are unwanted as it can harm the precious collections.
But this library's purpose is not to house priceless manuscripts and rare books for that need protection against the elements.
Here the presumption is that this place needs to live, where people are meant to use the books
which are to be changed every five years.
So the books will not be damaged by the sunlight, they will be read out by the people of Spijkenisse.
Thanks to this the architects were able to mix a collection of books with large spaces generously lit by natural light.
This place is something more that just a library.
It was envisaged as a true community centre.
But for the local people to feel that this is their place, their centre,
something that they can be proud of, and can identify with,
first, it should be easily accessible, in the centre of the town.
The building is almost fully glazed,
so the contact between inside and outside is very easy and clear,
one can sit here and appreciate the views of the surrounding square and street
and the atmosphere here is rather casual.
This is a small cafe and I can just grab a book from a shelf and start reading, or go to a more intimate setting.
There is no "library-bureaucracy", filling of forms, waiting in line.
The goal of this place is to facilitate the access to books, access to knowledge and to literary culture,
and to make everyone feel at home here.
We think, we need more places like The Book Mountain in Poland.
Places that show that a book is not an intelectual folly for the priviliged elite,
but rather something that can be an enjoyable, entertaining, enriching part of everyday life.
In recent years we have built in Poland magnificent, new grand edificed devoted to culture.
We've got beautiful concert halls, new theatres, breathtaking museums.
Many buildings that we can use from time to time.
I think now it's time to build edifices devoted to everyday culture
This is an example that show that can be done and it works great.

October Book Haul | 2017 - Duration: 15:32.Hello everyone, welcome back to my channel I'm Lily and today I'm going to be doing
a book haul which is really exciting. I've only done one before and these are I
think I've got like twelve books, I'm not sure. And these are all books that I
picked up since my last book haul in September, so a month-and-a-half-ish, I think.
All of them are secondhand from charity shops or clearance sales apart from two which I
got new because they are new releases and I was very excited about them.
One of those only arrived this morning and it is of course, 'The Beginning
of the World in the Middle of the Night. by Jen Campbell. I'm very very
very excited to read this book. Jen Campbell actually ran a kind of a
competition thing a while ago where if you'd pre-ordered book you could send
her an email and she would put you in for the runnings for um
one of the proofs. But everybody who'd sent her in confirmation that
that they'd pre-ordered the book got sent like a letter with a little
snippet of one stories and I got a snippet from one called: 'Plum Pie
Zombie Green, Yellow Bee, Purple Monster' it was an amazing snippet so I'm pretty
excited to get back to that story, and also to read all the others, I've heard
so many good things about this. Last night I also signed up to one of
Jen Campbell's poetry writing workshops which I'm quite terrified about but
quite excited about I've not done anything like that before
and definitely not since uni been part of like a group of writers and discussing things,
and each other's work and things like that. So . . . ahh, but yeah, I'm looking forward to that,
looking forward to this and the next book. The next book, I preordered
is of course, The Book of Dust. Which I'm a little way in. I've been reading it
very slowly, trying to savour it, and I'm quite pleased that most of the
most of the people I know who have got this book in terms of Booktube
and are reading it, are also reading it really slowly. It's very different
from the whole Harry Potter thing, when the Harry Potter book
come out everybody read it in the first day and you had to read it in the first
day too, or everybody would spoil it for you. This book's completely different,
it's been out like a week now, maybe a bit longer and I've heard nothing
nothing about it, it's wonderful so I'm reading at my own pace I'm really
enjoying it. It's so nice to return to this world. So those are the two books that I
got new. I preordered them months and months and months ago, so Jen Campbell's
book turning out this morning was quite a surprise because
I don't think it's actually released until next week but I'm not complaining
at all. So all the next few books-- all of the all of the books I'm gonna be
talking about now they're all secondhand. They've all come from charity shops in
the last couple months.
the first one is 'Burial-- burial burial boreal? Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. I
recently read 'The Good People' which I think it's her second book and I
wouldn't say it's an enjoyable book it's quite a dark topic to be enjoyable but
the writing was certainly enjoyable. She was very very beautiful writing very
vivid, aware of nature and characters and people and characterization and drawing
out all these things. It was a lovely character study but I think it was a bit -- huhh, for me to
enjoy I guess. But this one sounds quite intriguing as well. It's set in Northern
Iceland in 1826-- 29? 1820-- it'ss set in Northern Iceland in 1829,
about a woman whose condemned to death and she has to live with the family a
while before she's killed or something? I'm not sure, but it sounds quite
intriguinging. I've heard kind of mixed reviews about it. Some people are saying
'The Good People' was a lot better and I could certainly see how it might be
because I think a lot of research went into that book, it was very well-written.
The next book is one I found by chance-- it's a little bit battered.
I think some of the pages were falling out earlier, but--
this is 'Heft' by Liz Moore. Liz Moore's 'The Unseen World' was one of my favourite
books of this whole year I think. It might possibly be the favorite book of
the year, we'll see how 'Book of Dust' goes. And this I think was her first novel? I'm not sure
but all I really know about it is it's about a very very fat man
who makes kind of sentimental unsentimental journey which is sounds
quite lovely and I just, I adore Liz Moore's writing, I adore her exploration of
character and the way she just constructs story around life,
it's just , it's just brilliant. I could read her writing for forever.
So I really want to get to this one pretty soon but with
Nonfiction November coming up, it might be a December read. It does look
like it's a kind of autumny/winter sort of book, so that might work out quite well.
The next book is also one I don't really know much about. The blurb doesn't give
much away. It's called 'Minnow' by Diana Sweeney and this book I remember---
ooh, it's lovely and floppy, look at that! Agh, love it.
And this one I remember looking up-- somebody was talking about it years and years ago
and I put it on my wish list on Amazon and it just stayed on my wishlist on Amazon.
And I saw this in a charity shop and I thought Oh! I recognise that one
and I'll get it, and it's about a girl called Tom-- umm, a flood has taken the lives of her
parents and sister, and that's really all the blurb kind of says. It talks about some other
people but not really in terms of telling me what the story is I guess.
So this one I'm quite in the dark about. I love the cover, it's all pastelly
and kind of-- you can tell it's been done like proper art.
The next book is Ali Smith's 'Autumn' and this one I got in a Waterstones sale
because it's unfortunately quite damaged. Somebody's scored across here and
gone through several pages. So I got this one for a pound.
This one I've heard a lot about, a lot of really good things about but it just
never struck me as my kind of book so I didn't really pay much attention to it.
I didn't really consider picking it up unless like it was just there in the
library and I'll be like 'I'll read that now'. It's supposed to be very modern
um, about Brexit and things like that that I think
interest me in a politic politics way but not in a do I want to read about
that in a book way? Not really. So this one might take me a while to get to.
I am intrigued to read it, I'm just kind of a bit . . . hesitant, I'm just like
I'm just like mmm I'd rather read about history. So and the one book I have read
by Ali Smith, I enjoyed the writing and I enjoyed her humour, but
the story just-- and the character didn't really connect with me
at all. So I'm a bit dubious about this one
The next one is also one that I've heard quite a bit about on Booktube, it's called 'The Music
Shop' by Rachel Joyce and this one I think is a kind of a love story, set in 1988.
About a man who owns a music shop. I really want to read her first book, 'The Unlikely Pilgrimage
'The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry'.
before I read this one because lots of people really highly praise the Harold Fry
book and I like to read things in order I think going backwards into an author's history
can sometimes be a bit guhh, so . . . I would love to read that book first and then
move onto this one. Next book also came from clearance , I think this time it was W.H.Smiths.
And that is the 'One and Only Ivan' by Katherine Applegate, and this book I
have already read. This was one of my favourite books of last year and I've been dying to
find it. and I so so pleased to see this and it's not damaged or anything so I have no
idea why it was in the clearance but this is such a beautiful book, this
is a children's book it's very very sparsely written everything spaced out
big text, lots of space, but it is so perfect like there is nothing in excess
in this book, there is nothing you could add to this book this book is just as perfect
as children books get it's just-- it's wonderful I
think if you've got a child who really really loves animals and nature, and just wants
a bit more depth, like it's such a simple story but there's so
much emotional depth in it, it's oh so wonderful -- give this all your children, read it
whether you are a child or an adult, just just, this book is wonderful!
I recommend it to absolutely everyone!
The next one is a kind of classic book, and it's 'A Farewell to Arms' by Ernest Hemmingway
I haven't read any Hemmingway since I was at uni, so I'm quite keen to get into this.
though the font is very small, ogh, need my glasses.
This one I think is just your kind of typical war story but I think it's more
centered around Ernest's Hemingway's own experiences during the war. He was an
ambulance service-- yeah he was in the ambulance service, so imagine to be quite
harrowing, lots of uh, detail about injuries and such. I'm not particularly into war
fiction at the moment, which is unusual because normally I'm up for war fiction
no matter what time of the year it is or what mood I'm in,
so this one I'm hoping to get to maybe in December? But I'm not quite sure.
I've got a few other books that are also set in the same kind of era but I'm a bit more
excited about, so . . . and I think that's the next one-- no, this one's set in 1788
so quite a lot beforehand. I don't actually know much about this
It's called 'The Lieutenant' by Kate Greenville . Aaaand in 1788,
Daniel Brooke sets out on a journey that will change the course of his life--
Uggh, whoever wrote that blurb, whyy use those words-- who -- ughh.
Anyway, as a lieutenant in the First Fleet he lands in the wild and unknown
Shores of New South Wales. There he sets up an observatory to chart the stars. This
country will prove far more rallatory-rella-revelatory than the stars above.
based on real events the lieutenant tells the unforgettable story of Brookes
connection with an Aboriginal child a remarkable friendship resonates across
the oceans and centuries. That sounds quite sweet, so yeah not quite sure what
what to expect from that, but I really really love the cover, the detail of the stars and
the maps in the background. Oh yes, lovely cover. Um, the next one and I
I'm also a bit dubious about and that's 'Deaf Sentence: a novel' by David Lodge.
I literally picked this one up simply because it's got a deaf character but
upon looking a bit closer it's actually somebody who is going deaf
rather than has lived as a deaf person throughout their life
so I'm unsure about how good this will be as a representation of deafness
um and for deaf people, so yeah . . .
I'm not sure what to expect from this one, I haven't heard anything about it
we will just . . . see how that one goes.
I think it's supposed to be quite funny and awkward but I'm not sure if that's in a negative
make-fun-deaf-person way yet. If you've read this book
err maybe let me know what your thoughts on representation and any issues in this one.
The next one is also a book I was quite pleased to find because it's
quite a new release and it's quite popular and that's 'The Dark Circle' by Linda
Grant. And this was this has won of the orange prize and the shortlisted for Man Booker
I also think shortlisted for the Bailey's Women's Prize for Fiction so that this has
been everybody's been talking about this book. I think for the early part of the
year I was seeing it on all booktubers' channels everywhere, and it sounds
quite intriguing, I think it's more of a character study, set in the 1950s in a sanatorium where
several people just do their thing-- I'm terrible at book burbs about
books I don't know. The next one I picked up on a whim, oh and it's also very floppy
Ohh, look at-- that is, I just yeah. That's Wonderful. This is 'The Zookeepers Wife: a true story an
unlikely heroine' by Diane Ackman and this one I picked up actually because
I've been listening to the soundtrack on loop for my characters playlist for um
part of what I'm writing for several months now
so I've got the whole soundtrack in my head and this is like oh it's a book
as well so yeah. It's definitely a film but it's also a book, an this is about
Germany invading Poland and
evacuating the city zoo and then hiding Jewish people there to protect them
from the Luftwaffe -- however you say that, but yeah, so, this is the
one I think I would read in this is what I really want to get to in December
I love a good kind of world war two story and this one
sounds quite exciting and I'd also quite like to see a film because I've been
like completely entranced by the soundtrack so if you like soundtracks check out that
really nice. And the last book, the last book is 'The Orchard of Lost Souls'
by Nadifa Mohammed. I'm not completely sure what this book is about. I know it's set in
Somalia in 1988 and involves a woman who has left a refugee camp and also a soldier
who's involved in trying to squash rebellions, so this one just sounds really intriguing
and engaging and about corner of the world I don't really know much about so
I'm really looking forward to reading this one, will hopefully-- I've got a big TBR
for December. This is what happens when I take a month off
to read only nonfiction. I just get this massive 'I'll read this in December'
'I'll read this in December' so this will hopefully be another December book, but yep so and
this one's got a really beautiful cover as well. Ah I'm a sucker for covers.
So that was my book haul for the last couple of months,
if you've read in these books let me know, I would love to hear what your
thoughts are. If you would also like to read some of these books also let me
know because I will squee along with you about how excited I am about some of them.
Um, yeah, thank you for watching and I hope you're all
having a great week. It's half term for me so I've been quite lazy but also
productive. I've been making quite a lot of things and I've been making a new quilt.
I've also been doing writing which is so has surprised even me so I've been
editing my incredibly over-written novel and trying to cut words out but actually
adding more than I've cut so that's not going so well but I'm hoping that by
the end of half-term, I will have a some somewhat better draft than I had before.
That is all for me, see you all again soon -- goodbye!
Oh- I will start that one again.
oh it's not a wrap-up it's not a wrap-up what is it
it's . . . it's a book haul, that's what it is, it's a book haul.

Who is Bob Marley? | More Than Just a Face | Audio Addiction - Duration: 6:24.what's going on you guys my name is Stephan and you are watching audio
addiction today we're gonna be looking at the amazing artist Bob Marley
now we've already touched upon this time before with our look at Jimi Hendrix and
I plan to cover more artists in the future around that time simply because
there was a lot of new quote-unquote new happening at that time the birth of New
Age rock psychedelic ax psychedelia the civil rights movement soul and funk
music were just starting out simple surge and expansion of the human
consciousness reggae would be another musical genre that would gain popularity
at that time and Bob Marley would be one of the artists that would spearhead this
genre and to help bring it on to the world stage now Bob Marley is a native
of Jamaica born on February 6 1945 although raised a Catholic in his
childhood Bob Marley would become a Rastafarian this kind of belief would
lead him to have those iconic dreadlocks as well as influenced the music that he
would be releasing Bob Marley's career would start in the late sixties wherein
reggae music or at the time it was Jamaican popular music began to develop
a new sound it started to slow down almost like a ticking clock and this is
where we get that very quintessential reggae feel it has that similar tempo
that upchuck of the guitar or upchuck of something it's a very very iconic sound
at that time Bob Marley has already established his career and band to the
to some extent however all the music that he would be releasing at that time
would be referencing of the old sound of Jamaican popular music thus being the
smart man he is he would recut re-report into the sound of the new style of
reggae music now the big change in the big opportunity for Bob Marley would be
when he would go to England and thus would be signing to Island Records this
era the Island Records era of Bob Marley would see huge heavyweight songs like I
shot the sheriff although not a huge commercially successful song it would
gain the attention of very high-profile artists at the time like Eric Clapton
however due to complications during around this time the Bob Bob Marley and
the Wailers his backing band would break up now the reasons for these are unknown
but considering that most of them went on to go for solo careers kind of points
to the direction of a creative output issue and everyone just wanted to do
their own thing still keeping the name Bob Marley and the Wailers you would
continue to work on the album and then the next album and to the next releasing
13 studio albums in his career and you know the rise of Bob Marley it's hard to
think of it for any popular artist on how they got so popular and a lot of
them including Bob Marley would think that the rise was an overnight sensation
which it wasn't it took Bob Marley nine studio albums to reach the commercially
successful album of Exodus however looking back you really see the the
influence in that opportunity with Island Records with the parent company
of CBS records behind him now you know they were looking for an image Bob
Marley presented this new image of rebel music
something that's a little bit more appealing than rock music which is
popular at the time but it still wasn't fully accepted yet you know and Bob
Marley was just all about love and peace and all of that and it made a very good
commercial image for the company and that's why I think they really pushed
hard on Bob Marley and this is just was just a great synergy I mean Bob Marley
just oozes out spirituality in the sense and it actions speak louder than words
his actions at the smile for Jamaica concert where he got shot just days
before the concert and still got up to perform just speaks volumes to his
character but Bob Marley wasn't all about just love and peace as much as we
like to believe he had very aggressive views looking up to the Black Panthers
who are also another fairly aggressive social movement in America looking up to
people like Che Guevara but remember CBS was looking for an
image and commercially molded Bob Marley from his time when he was alive to when
he was dead and posthumanist shaped his image and became this historical figure
and you know it's a I wish people would know more about Bob Marley his history
what his beliefs were beyond the butterflies and rainbows because I find
that just as interesting of the other stuff that we already know and I think
it really helps connect the dots when listening to his music his beliefs and
Rastafarianism it through his music is just so very interesting and although
it isn't bad Bob Marley was truly more than just being a figurehead on some
pipes and bongs and lighters at a convenience store
Bob Marley would die of melanoma in 1981 and what Bob Marley was was more than
just peace and love he was a political figure a historical figure a man that
pioneered not single-handedly but helped bring out a new style of music onto the
world stage and would be someone who stretches beyond the musical sphere as I
said he was a political figure a historical figure and Bob Marley is just
much more than that and I hope this dude will let us learn about the Bob Marley
that was more than just the guy that wrote is this love and that's all for
today you guys thank you so much for watching click like if you liked the
video click subscribe if you really liked it share it to all your friends

PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL GHOST EFFECT! - Duration: 16:22.how's it going everybody it is November the 3rd right now, unfortunately I planned
to do this tutorial which is going to be how to Photoshop yourself to look like a ghost
that kind of scary creepy looking hollow-eyed kind of ghost I was trying
to get this up for Halloween however I was on vacation I did take my laptop
and I did take all my equipment but unfortunately my charger stopped working
while I was out of town and couldn't get out to a store to get a new charger so even
though I had the tutorial and everything ready to go for Halloween unfortunately
I was not able to upload them and get things going so we are a few days late
for Halloween but what the heck anybody who's still in the spirit might still
want to do this so let's get started so first thing you're gonna want to do is
take a selfie as we always do in these tutorials I wanted to get something with
a white robe or a white nightgown I think the white nightgowns work the best
for this unfortunately I didn't have one so I used a white robe that I had. So once you
got the photo that you're happy with you are going to want to duplicate your
photo as always, always keep an original just as a background layer keep that
original untouched just in case we have to go back for it for any reason
after you've duplicated that original layer you're gonna want to grab the burn
tool and start burning around the eyes you really want to get the heavy eye
look by burning mainly below the eye I'm circulating the eye just to
give it that black eye look but the most important area you want to cover here is
underneath the eye. Once you get the dark shade underneath and around the eye that
you're happy with we're gonna want to grab a black and white adjustment layer
and place that on top. And all we're gonna want to do here is bring out the
Reds and the yellows a little bit depending on what type of tone you want
with the black and white I'm bringing out the yellows and the Reds
so once you've adjusted your black and white layer use this time to determine
whether or not the areas around the eyes are too dark or too light if they are
too light go ahead and continue burning around the eye. If you're finding it a
little too dark which I am here you're just gonna want to reduce the opacity
I'm going to drop it down to about 75% now just to help give that dramatic scary
look to this photo we're gonna want to create two layers let's first create a
solid layer and fill it black and we're gonna want to use this to create a dark
vignette effect, you've seen these in some of my previous tutorials basically
we want to create a clipping mask and grab a feathered round brush and just
pop it in the middle and that's gonna give us our dark vignette. Now you're
gonna want to create that second layer and fill it white and this is just going to
give us a washed-out clouded effect... to really make this effect stronger you can
even throw on a clipping mask there and throw some kind of scatter or
clouded brush on there. I'm not going to do that here because I don't have the
brush on my system right now but that is an option. Right now we're just going to
give it a solid white fill and we're going to reduce the opacity to about 15 to 20
percent and let's not forget to rename the layers to keep things
organized and I'm just going to reduce the opacity of that black vignette layer
to about 75% just to reduce the really heavy black
once you're happy with the general tone you just want to go in and perfect that
vignette effect and I'm just going to lock these two layers in place so we don't
accidentally select them. So once we're happy with that we're going to want to
start working on the eyes so basically we want to grab an outline of both eyes
and we can do that using the lasso tool, the pen tool or you could even use the oval
tool and you'll get a similar effect with each, it just depends
on how accurate you want to be with the shape and in this case you don't have to be
that accurate with it just because the effect I'm giving here is more of a
hollow-eye effect like the sockets and the eyeballs
have been pulled out so we're just going to get a rough outline of the eye and
create a new layer and basically make selection out of that and fill it so
now you'll have a new layer with the eye outline on there. You can fill out
any color I like to try and pick a darker color so I've got black here
it's looking a little bit grey because it's underneath the white and
the black layers, we're going to want to double click that layer and open up the
Layer Styles palette. the two styles we're going to want to focus on are the
bevel & emboss and the inner shadow. so you're gonna want to use an outer
bevel style and start adjusting and experimenting with the different
settings here. We're going to want to increase the depth a little bit, the size
is gonna have to go up a bit but we want it to look like it's part of the skin
once we're happy with that bevel & emboss lets go into the inner shadow and
just start adjusting the size and the distance. You want to ensure that the
blend mode is set to normal because by default it would be set to multiply and
we're not sure if you'll really be able to see it with the color you chose.
The second thing you're going to want to make sure that you're paying attention
to is the color of the inner shadow so we want to make sure its a
different color than the original color of the layer... so if they're
both black you're not going to be able to see a difference you'll want to
change it just just to identify the color, change it to anything - you can do
white, blue, yellow, whatever works and then we'll adjust that color back to
black or gray and change the color of the background layer to maybe a lighter
gray or a darker gray. once you're happy with the effects that
you've just applied you can go in and start adjusting the actual size and the
shape of the eye I'm finding this one a little bit too big so I'm just going to go
in and shrink the size a little bit. when you're feeling comfortable with that
shape and size go ahead and duplicate that layer and do an Edit>Transform and
Flip Horizontal. Now what we want to do is go ahead and blur those eyes a little
bit so they don't have such a sharp edge around so we'll go to Filter>Blur and
Gaussian Blur. You don't want to blur this too much, just give it a light blur.
I'm doing about a 3-pixel radius just to help soften the effect. And we'll
just continue adjusting the size and the shape of the eyes and play a bit with
the angle until we're happy
let's go ahead and duplicate each eye and we're gonna want to remove any layer
effects and layer styles applied to these layers. After we've duplicated each eye
we're going to want to grab a brush which you'll probably have to download from a
website such as deviantart.com, I'll place a link in the description below
of a recommended brush you can use for this but basically we will want to give
the eye a look like it's it's falling or it's dripping something, so basically you
can use any splatter or scatter brush, again I'll leave a link in the
description below and basically you want to take the smudge tool with a fairly
high strength I've got mine at 73%, you don't want it too high you might want to
play between a 60-70% range and just start pulling the eye down
just smudging the eye down, you don't want to smudge the whole eye NOT the top
just the bottom and give it almost like a dripping effect like there's tears or
blood falling out of the eye or being scratched down the face
you want to ensure that you're not doing this to the layers with the layer styles
and effects on them because each of those effects that you just applied will
be transformed so make sure that you're doing this on the duplicated layer where
you have removed all effects and styles. Now let's go back to that layer that you
applied the burns around the eyes too and let's start distorting the mouth a
little bit let's take that smudge tool and use a similar brush and just start
smudging the lips down a little bit just to give it a little bit more of a
blurred, distorted look. if you wanted to you can also use the same effect as we
use for the eyes for mouth just create the outline of a mouth and basically
have it like a hollow mouth that where the ghost might be screaming and same
idea some kind of liquids or scratches falling out of the mouth.
next thing we're gonna want to do is duplicate the background copy again so that original
layer, let's duplicate that and let's apply a Motion Blur so you'll do that by
going to Filter>Blur>Motion Blur, make sure that you're doing a horizontal blur
and just go with the settings that you're comfortable with that you're
happy with. I'm going with about a 150 pixel distance but go with whatever
you're happy with. We'll want to move this layer above the layer with the
burns and reduce the opacity so we just want to give a bit of that shaky look to it
and we don't want to lose any of the
details in the face those burn areas that we just did in the eyes and the mouth
so we're going to want to create a clipping mask and
we want to expose the background of the face itself so leave all of the hair and
the edges with that motion blur still apparent on it but let's clear up the
main facial area. and I'm just cleaning up those burn areas just basically by
throwing a clipping mask on that layer we reapplied the burns and just exposing
some of the original image. So the faces are looking a little bit too clear
for me to look like a ghost, so I'm actually going to go back to that
burn layer and I'm going to start burning more areas of the face just to
help make it look a little bit more burnt and a little bit more haunted
and we're really going to want to darken up the lip and mouth area here
I'm just revisiting the eyes here, I'm going to apply another slight Gaussian blur to them
just to help them feel a little bit more natural
and doing a little bit more smudging around the outline of the eye
I'm just noticing that the eyebrows seem a little bit too detailed here so I just want to
smooth those out and blur those out of it so you can do that by using the smudge tool
or the blur tool I've got this much tool selected so I'm just going to go
ahead and start blurring the eyebrows a bit. now we want to explore how to give
the face a little bit more of a scarred abused look I think I want to use the
burn tool again so just use the burn tool on top of that original burn layer
where we applied all the burns and I'm using a barbed wire brush here just to
give it kind of a stitched look I will leave a link in the description below so
you can download that same brush and get the same effect but you can really do
that with any of your own brushes. Again this is just a barbed wire brush that
I'm gonna wanted to start applying to certain areas of the face just to again
really bring out the Haunted and abused look of the face
so again revisiting the burn tool and just applying some more burns
to the facial area just to give it that more Haunted look
let's really bring out those lips and apply some more burns just to the mouth area
So I'm still finding the eyebrows a little bit too dominant so I'm going to
actually go in and narrow the eyebrows a little bit I'm gonna do that by using
the Liquify Filter. You want to ensure that you have the layer that's being
most exposed selected so that's the layer that we apply to all of the burns
too and we're gonna want to hit Filter>Liquify. Now you can see all of the
burn effects that we've actually applied to the face without the black and white
adjustment layer so once you're in the Liquify Filter you can really use any of
the tools to your left. I'm just going to use the smudge tool and just start
pushing down on the eyebrows and narrowing them just to make
them a little bit more narrow and a little lower on the face. Hit OK and...
that's it! That is how you give your portrait photos a ghost effect.
