Going back to the state dinner at the Blue House.
The dishes have been carefully selected and prepared at the top office.
Lee Ji-won explains the reason why some of them were chosen and what they symbolize.
'Suited to both presidents' tastes with harmonized ingredients.'
This seems to be the basis of the menu for the state dinner.
First up, some corn porridge, with side dishes like fried lotus slices and sweet potato and
pumpkin pudding.
These vegetables were what Koreans used to eat in harder times,... serving as a chance
for the two leaders to reflect on their countries' long and enduring alliance.
Next was grilled sole,... reported as one of President Trump's favorite fish dishes.
The grilled sole also has a special meaning for President Moon, as it was caught in his
hometown of Geoje-do Island, in the southeast of Korea.
With fermented soybean paste and other seafood adding to the soup's flavor, the dish seeks
to introduce the Trumps to a new, Korean way of enjoying fish.
The main dish was Korean beef ribs, seasoned with a special sauce made from 360-year-old
soy sauce,... showing what important guests the Trumps are.
With it, local rice cooked in a stone pot, together with side dishes including prawn
caught near Korea's easternmost island of Dokdo,... showed Korea's local and traditional
flavors.
And to finish, a fusion dessert,... triple chocolate cake with raspberry vanilla sauce,
and cinnamon punch granita served with dried persimmons.
President Moon also prepared traditional Korean stone bowls, brass spoons and chopsticks as
gifts to the Trumps.
The phrase 'We go together' and the date of the visit is engraved on the back of the spoons,...
emphasizing the strong Korea-U.S. alliance.
The stone bowl, according to the Blue House, is given as a symbolic gift to those who have
made remarkable accomplishments.
