What's up guys?
I've got a new and interesting gadget in my hands.
Some say that this is a camera with a smartphone attached to it.
Others say it's the best camera phone ever to be launched.
We're going to see if these quotes have anything to them.
This is the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
We've tested this thing for a couple of days and we've learned that there are more things
worth mentioning than just the camera.
A new chipset, an in-screen fingerprint scanner and the ability to charge other devices are some of the things.
Let's jump into it.
Starting off with the general looks.
It's got a metal frame and curved glass both on the front and on the back.
All four sides are curved, making it look great, but it can feel a bit slippery in your hands.
A little detail I just love is the red power button.
There is a notch at the top to cover the selfie lens and the flash.
Luckily it is easy to remove. I think it looks better without the notch.
It's got a 6,39" AMOLED QHD+ display.
The colors are really vibrant, the black levels are deep.
It has 539 ppi, which looks incredible with HDR material.
Like its little brother, the P20 Pro, the Mate 20 Pro does not support mini jack,
but it comes with this little USB-C dongle so you can still use your old wired headphones.
It also comes with a set of earplugs.
As you would expect from a flagship phone, the Mate 20 Pro is also IP68 certified,
so it can handle being under water for a little while.
The phone has 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage
which you can expand with a memory card.
Huawei has moved away from the old standard, microSD cards, and over to nanoSD.
The phone is equipped with Huaweis new Kirin 980 chipset, making it super responsive and fast.
An even larger upgrade is the battery, where this thing is a beast!
It's got a 4200 mAh battery which is larger than most other phones on the market right now.
It's also compatible with fast charging and this time it comes with the supercharger in the box,
so you don't have to get that separately.
The supercharger utilizes 40 W in stead of the standard 15 W.
This makes the phone charge from 0-70 percent in just 30 minutes.
That's impressive.
The probably coolest thing about the battery is that it does wireless reverse charging.
That means that you can charge other devices with this phone.
You can charge other phones, earbuds, anything that supports wireless charging.
This feature is awesome, but it has its limitations.
The positive thing is that you can charge pretty much anything compatible with wireless charging.
The downer is that it works really slow.
I love this next feature, the in-screen fingerprint scanner.
Quick and easy, does not take up additional space and is placed conveniently
in the middle of the display.
You can also use the fingerprint scanner for your Safe-folder or for logging on to stuff online.
The phone has a 3D depth sensing camera on the front for face unlock,
making it even safer to log in because it can't be fooled by 2D replications of your face.
But, what if you have 3D print of your head?!
You can't talk about smartphones these days without talking about the camera.
Its predecessor, the P20 Pro, took the world by storm with the first triple Leica camera.
Now Huawei has further improved this camera.
Triple Leica camera on the back.
Huawei calls it its thinking lense powered by Leica.
The thinking part refers to the AI which will try to recognize the scene and
suggest a camera mode for optimal pictures.
I find it impressive that they've managed to put 3x optical zoom into this phone
with optical image stabilization (EIS).
Damn, they've cranked up the megapixels on this phone!
It's got a 24 MP f2.0 selfie camera.
We tried taking some sweet selfies and a lot of the images turned out to be really soft,
even though we turned off all the beauty filters and so on.
Also it tends to overexpose a little bit, so you should override the exposure as a quick fix.
When in the Pro mode, we noticed a new auto-focus mode
where you can switch between single and continuous focus.
Pretty neat!
We found some cool hotkeys or shortcuts hidden in this phone.
For example the phone has a screen recording software pre-installed
which you can initiate by knocking two times with two knuckles on the display.
You can enter the same mode pushing volume up and the power button at the same time.
If you knock two times using only one knuckle, the phone takes a screenshot.
The other way to do this is by hitting volume down and the power button at the same time.
That was our review of Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
An impressive piece of technology.
Overall I love the design.
It's got a good size, beautiful screen and this color is just awesome.
The phone is heavily spec'ed, it has a huge battery and the camera is just impressive.
