Hey folks, Niall here from Firefly Studios.
Just got a quick video for you today on the basic steps of build a skirmish map in Stronghold Legends.
And how to get that map on the Steam Workshop.
Building a Skirmish Map
Ok, first let's talk about the different types of maps you can build.
The standard map is a skirmish map which is also used for multiplayer.
There are two subcategories to the skirmish map: King of The Hill and Capture The Flag
You first need to place a stone circle on your map before these options will become selectable.
Custom maps allow for missions and objectives, just like the types of maps you'd play in the campaign.
We'll have a separate video for setting up a custom map soon.
Freebuild maps allow you to build a castle with no end objective.
The only setup required for this map is to select which estate the player will use.
The first step is to build your terrain. Select the landscape editing mode and left-click to edit the terrain.
There are a variety of tools you can use and their size can be changed in the floating panel.
Next is the texture tools. Again, very straightforward. Select your texture and left-click to paint it on.
The water tools allow you to paint rivers and seas as well as marshes for pitch resources.
In the features tab, we have the main resources: Trees for wood, as well as iron and stone.
We also have some decorative elements.
The final sub-tab we have is animals. Seagulls can only be placed over the sea,
crows can only be placed over trees, and wolves can be placed anywhere.
Now let's go on with building a simple two-player skirmish map.
With a landscape complete, we now need to paint our estates.
Select a region mode button under colour.
If we had any village estates, we'd paint these now.
Neutral estates are simply estates without a keep or a village hall.
We'll now need some keeps. These are found in the extra features tab.
You want to make sure your map looks good in other landscapes.
Select the keep and change the landscape type.
The final touch will be to add some ambient sound effects.
That's our skirmish map complete.
Let's quickly take a screenshot using Steam, save the map, and get it up on Steam Workshop.
Open up Stronghold Legends in Steam. From the launcher, select Steam Workshop.
Next, select your map, then put in a name and a description.
Next, I'll add the screenshot I took earlier. You can add more screenshots via Steam.
Finally, click 'publish' and we're finished.
If you want to check on the map, you'll find a link in the description.
As you can see, creating a map is really straightforward. Why not give a go yourself?
If you've already created a map and it's up on Steam Workshop, let us know in the comments.
Thanks for watching.
