Alaska Cruise Vlog - Day 7 Tracy Arm - Duration: 12:38.This episode is brought to you by CruiseLine.com if you haven't checked out
their awesome resources be sure to click on the link in the description below you
can find amazing tips reviews and photos for real everyday cruisers
you
it's a little bit after 9 a.m. and we're just leaving Tracy arm fjord we made the
entire passage between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. this morning now unfortunately we
weren't able to approach the glacier because there was too much concentration
of ice so the captain felt it was dangerous So we made kind of a hard stop up
close to the glacier and flipped around pretty immediately which is a little bit
of a disappointment now I know there's probably a lot of first-time cruisers
that are really bummed that they couldn't see the glacier today but we've
been there done that with Tracy arm it just really hit and miss with this
slasher and a lot of times we don't get to see it so we're kind of accustomed to
but we're enjoying a beautiful ride out of the passage back to channel
so this is a copy in Potter's when I used on the ship and they renovated
back in December and today we are lucky enough to score and ice cream sandwiches
they also have coffee drinks that in the milkshake so again oh and you can also
get regular swirl ice cream cones here vanilla chocolate or combination of
hot tub hoppin for sport today my husband does not do hot tubs
but we're doing hot tubs a little tip for you if you're coming on the Grand
Princess or probably any Princess ship to Alaska is that on the glacier day
they serve reindeer chili and rock fish chowder on the pool deck the covered
pool deck around 11:30 a.m. I don't know if that will be a tradition that
continues but it's kind of cool and nobody seems to be taking advantage of
it there's like no line and everybody's in the buffet and not out here but it's
really a nice beautiful place to be everyone else I think it's just kind of
concentrated around the upper decks just looking around and trying to find places
to stay warm so hot tub hoppin it is dressed today hasn't really been the
first day that we've been able to just rest on this cruise it's been so nice
and while I'm disappointed that we didn't get seat like a leisure this
morning it has been good just kind of mope around I even took a little nap
today yes it's true and we were just getting ready to go out and explore why
don't we heard a knock on the door for room service were like we didn't order
room service what is this mystery and our beautiful sweet travel agent and
Marie got us some chocolate dipped strawberries with a little note from her
what does it say let's see here hope you're enjoying cruising Tracy Arm fjord
yes we are Ann Marie thank you very much let's take a look at these beautiful
strawberries oh there's over 80 you guys very cute
they're pretty little swirls let's give it a taste chocolate strawberry cab so
good so decadent so probably gonna get a little fresh air sorry never system vlog
and eat at the same time. Get a little fresh air go for a spin and then get ready for our
pre-dinner cocktails at club 1 5 and tonight just happens to be Italian night
in the dining room so maybe we'll have some lasagna and some yummy Italian food
tonight this drink of the day is a good old-fashioned gin martini dry no olive
sounded kind of good to me and I was looking for something not too sweet
I keep board right in the cocktail of the day and it's just to cocktail and
not enough for me so anyway we are enjoying our pre-dinner cocktail hour we
finally got a parent early enough to enjoy it
my son is over there humming and reading his kindle and eating a platter of
vegetables he was starving and his stomach was starting to hurt so we're
like let's go get some appetizers anyway we're looking forward to Italian dinner
tonight and we've been sitting here kind of looking over the princess patter for
tomorrow there's so much fun stuff on the agenda tomorrow tomorrow night is
formal night so we're all gonna get dressed up and one of the show's I've
been really anxious to see born to dance which is only debuting on a few princess
ships is playing tomorrow night so you know us you never really know if we're
gonna make it to what we plan on doing but I really want to go tomorrow so
we'll see if that happens but anyway back to the drink of the day good
old-fashioned gin martini let's give it a taste
oh yeah that'll do it see you at dinner
good answer Jesse so you guys want to hear about the Italian night menu it's
kind of fun it's not your average Italian food there's no lasagna there's
no chicken parmigiana it's all kind of interesting unique stuff so for the
starters they have a seafood antipasto with a creamy lemon emulsion prosciutto
cone Maloney YUM and an eggplant parmesan which I ordered and then they
have pasta fazool for soup a minestrone iced peach Bellini soup which my husband
ordered YUM and mixed greens baby spinach crisp bacon pika RINO and pine
nuts we both ordered that my husband's not a salad guy but he ordered that
salad then they have a spaghetti with meatballs with the fresh tomato sauce
they're classic fettuccine alfredo then they have a sea bass dish a sea scallop
and shrimp dish over gratinéed whipped potatoes yeah they have a scallop inna
veal with Marsala wine sauce beef pot roast with Tuscan vegetables and polenta
YUM and a breaded chicken breast which I ordered with the mushrooms and fontina
melts and vegetarian lingerie tonight is a zucchini rapini do not team Nazis
which is a cheese and onion stuffing with cannellini beans so anyway do you
need Italian menu I like the fact that they kind of depart from the regular and
they offer a lot of seafood so be sure to watch our food slideshow will put
together all the main dining room food at the end
and of course we'll show you a little piece of it tonight as well and we will
let you know about the desert soon - yummy excited about this
you may not attend lasagna but they do have tiramisu on the dessert menu as
well as cassava alla siciliana which is an ice cream trilogy a sugar-free
semifreddo good old ice cream they have a gelato as Sabbagh Leone totally chinos
Roberto a limoncello okay I'm terrible Italian accent and
then of course the usual stuff so Love Boat dream New York cheesecake creme
brulee available every night creator on Sunday available every night brie and
Gouda and fruit so there's always lots of choices but my husband went with the
tiramisu and I went with the ice cream trilogy which means basically these guys
know I'm not a big sugar lover I'll have a couple bites of it and then
I'll pass it off to the boys and see what we can do but anyway I've been one
of the better dinner nights the Italian that kind of took us by surprise we
thought that it would be like traditional Italian but it was it was
lovely the chicken was lovely the sea bass was lovely the pasta that the head
waiter was making kind of in the center of the dining room was so garlicky and
good it was with fresh Pomodoro fantastic so two big fat thumbs ups for
the Italian dinner tonight we won't tell it was three dollars when I tell you
guys that's a pretty good deal and maybe just maybe do we get to keep this laughs
hey ash when do I get to keep this laughs do we get to keep it the glass
for me three dollars is pretty good deal
okay that's smoke so sweet well let's just say it's like grown-up
lemonade right percolate what's that with lemon and sugar lots of sugar
fantastic but now it's tea time there's some good deals in the gift shop tonight
you guys either I'm a sucker and they always do the discounts or it's the end
of the season and things are half off but my son the other day said that I
needed this shirt right here don't mess with Mama Bear and you guys it's eight
dollars that's pretty good right normally 16 bucks it's pretty cute you
might have to get it it's adorable anyway other cute stuff look at this a
little sleep dress that says barely awake oh I'm kind of messing up the
supply don't mind that let me show you the other things
come on that's cute it's really cute what else keeping it
real oh good night you guys

The Christmas Story | Made-By-Me Nativity | Lifetree Kids - Duration: 4:12.You're watching Lifetree Kids!
This telling of the Nativity story comes from Made-By-Me Nativity.
At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decided to count all the people who lived
in the Roman Empire.
So he ordered the people to go back to their families' hometowns to be counted there.
Because Joseph came from the family of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem to be counted.
He was living 70 miles away in the village of Nazareth, but he didn't have a choice.
So he went to Mary to tell her.
Mary, we have to go to Bethlehem.
Now?
But I'm about to have a baby!
Sorry, but the Roman Emperor says we gotta go.
Well..okay.
But this is going to hurt.
And I'm not happy about it!
So Joseph and Mary made the long trip.
And while they were there, the time came for Mary's baby to be born.
Mary wrapped baby Jesus snugly in strips of cloth.
She laid him in a manager, because there wasn't a room anywhere around where they could stay.
Still not happy!
There were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, watching over their flocks of sheep.
Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared.
The radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them.
The shepherds were really, really scared!
Ahhh!
Woah!
Ahh!
But the angel said to not be afraid.
Don't be afraid!
I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.
The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem!
And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped in snugly strips
of cloth, lying in a manager.
Suddenly, the angel was joined by a lot more angels—the armies of heaven—praising God
and saying…Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to everyone who's pleasing
to God!
When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said…Let's go to Bethlehem and
check this out!
Let's see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.
The shepherds found Mary and Joseph.
And there was the baby, lying in the manger.
After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone they met what had happened.
The Messiah has been born!
Angels came and told us!
Yeah!
Lots of angels.
Lots of scary angels!
Then we went and saw the baby for ourselves!
And he wasn't in a palace.
He was in a cave!
All who heard the shepherds' story were astonished.
Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them a lot.
The trip wasn't any fun, and this is no place to have a baby—but God knows what
he's doing and I'm happy after all.
The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen.
It was just as the angel had told them!
Praise God!
Hallelujah!
Yippee!
Jesus didn't come just for the shepherds…or for the people of Bethlehem…or for people
he met while he was here on earth.
He came for everyone—for all of us.
His love is a gift to all of us.

United States v. Windsor - Duration: 6:32.This video is a collaboration with Tristan from Step Back History.
Be sure to check out his video about Edith Windsor after you are done watching this video.
Mr. Beat presents
Supreme Court Briefs
Toronto, Canada
May 2007
After being in a relationship together for 44 years, Edith Windsor and Thea Spyer get married.
In Canada, same-sex marriage is legal.
However, in New York City, where Edie and Thea live, it is not.
In fact, at the time the United States had a law called the Defense of Marriage Act, aka DOMA, which defined (marriage) as the union of one man and one woman.
That law also said states didn't have to recognize same-sex marriages that were granted in other states
So even when the state of New York recognized their marriage the next year, the federal government did not.
Thea died in 2009, leaving her estate to Edie Windsor. Windsor tried to get the federal estate tax exemption since she was a surviving spouse.
However, she couldn't due to DOMA, which said this exemption didn't apply to same-sex marriage.
Everyone's favorite organization, the Internal Revenue Service, or IRS, denied Windsor's claim, and said she had to pay more than $363,000 in estate taxes.
Well, she did pay it, but on November 9, 2010, Windsor sued the federal government seeking a refund saying this was discrimination and that DOMA was unconstitutional.
While the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York was looking at the case, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the Department of Justice would not defend the constitutionality of the part of DOMA that applied to Windsor's case.
Despite this momentum for Windsor, she faced opposition from Paul Clement and the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group, or BLAG, who stepped in to defend DOMA.
On June 6, 2012, Judge Barbara Jones declared Section 3 of DOMA unconstitutional as it went against the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment.
Jones ordered a tax refund, including interest, for Windsor.
The Department of Justice appeared to want to allow this case to become the law of the land and seemed to predict that this would happen, which may explain why it allowed an appeal from Clement and BLAG.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit agreed with the lower court.
Judge Dennis Jacobs wrote, "Our straightforward legal analysis sidesteps the fair point that same-sex marriage is unknown to history and tradition, but law (federal or state) is not concerned with holy matrimony.
Government deals with marriage as a civil status—however fundamental—and New York has elected to extend that status to same-sex couples."
But the Justice Department wasn't done yet.
It wrote the Supreme Court, seeking judicial review of the decisions of both the District Court and Appellate Court.
BLAG also petitioned the Supreme Court to review it.
Well, obviously, the Court agreed to take on the case (After all this is an episode of SUPREME COURT BRIEFS, am I right, am I right?), and they heard oral arguments on March 27, 2013.
On June 26, 2013, they announced their decision, voting 5-4 in favor of Windsor.
The Court held that Section 3 of DOMA, the one that said marriages could only be between men and women, was unconstitutional under the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment.
Basically, they argued the Constitution said the federal government couldn't step in to treat state-sanctioned marriages between men and women differently than state-sanctioned marriages between those of the same gender.
Justice Anthony Kennedy was pretty much the swing vote on this.
Many were not sure where the conservative leaning justice would stand on such a socially liberal issue.
Oh did the Court talk trash about DOMA.
They wrote, "DOMA undermines both the public and private significance of state-sanctioned same-sex marriages;
for it tells those couples, and all the world, that their otherwise valid marriages are unworthy of federal recognition.
This places same-sex couples in an unstable position of being in a second-tier marriage.
The differentiation demeans the couple, whose moral and sexual choices the Constitution protects."
Now, we have to recognize the four justices who disagreed.
In their dissent, they suggested this decision was politically charged and just not necessary- they argued Windsor could have received her tax refund if they just dismissed the case.
Both Justice John Roberts and Justice Antonin Scalia argued it wasn't the Supreme Court's job to decide in this case. It was out of their jurisdiction.
Regardless, this case, United States v. Windsor, caused the President at the time, Barack Obama, to expand rights for same-sex couples who were federal workers and those who received federal benefits.
The case also caused a wave of lawsuits in states where there were same-sex marriage bans.
The case directly led Obergefell v. Hodges, a case that came two years that completely legalized same sex marriage in all 50 states.
I have a video about that case and you can check it out by clicking on that creepy "I" in the right hand corner.
After the Supreme Court victory, Edie Windsor had said "If I had to survive Thea, what a glorious way to do it."
By this time, she had become an inspiration to gay rights activists everywhere.
Windsor ended up marrying another woman after this case, but passed away on September 12, 2017, just a couple months before this video's release.
I'll see you for the next Supreme Court case, jury!
If you want to find out more about the life of Edith Windsor, be sure to check out the video below from my friend Tristan over at Step Back History.
He goes into a lot more depth than I do, obviously, about her life.
And you should definitely subscribe to his channel while you're over there. It's one of the best history YouTube channels around.
Also, remember to check out my Supreme Court Briefs episode about Obergefell v. Hodges, which is really the next chapter for the battle for same-sex marriage across the entire United States.

The Ten Second Marathon - Duration: 2:54.The concept of time is meaningless,
because any two organisms will experience it differently.
To a tortoise, which has a slow metabolism, a minute oozes along.
To a hare, it whizzes past.
But sometimes in the chaos of all this relativity, it's nice to just have fun.
So, Popular Science presents: The Ten Second Marathon:
How fast can your favorite animals and objects get in just 10 seconds?
And they're off! Light takes an early lead and it's not even close.
Traveling over 1.86 million miles in the allotted time,
light is truly the Usain Bolt of the universe.
You might be thinking, "Isn't Usain Bolt truly the Usain Bolt of the universe?"
Though Bolt holds the record for fastest man in the world—he ran 100 meters in 9.58 seconds—
light is still 28 million times quicker than him at his fastest.
So, no, light wins this time.
In second place, it's the International Space Station.
This scientific lab orbits our planet at over 17,000 miles per hour,
experiencing a sunrise every 90 minutes.
It traverses 47.6 miles during the marathon.
Earth's only natural satellite, the Moon, moves an impressive 6.35 miles in that time.
And in third place, it's that historic rocket, the moon landing mission, Apollo 11.
As it exited Earth's atmosphere on July 16th, 1969,
Apollo 11 sped along at a whopping 6,336 miles per hour,
making it 17.6 miles during our race.
In the middle of the pack, traveling 2.11 miles, it's sound.
Though you can't see it as it whizzes through the air,
sound is much faster than any animal or nerve impulse.
In fact, at its top speed, the world's fastest animal, the cheetah, sprints just 0.169 miles in 10 seconds.
And our final competitors in the ten-second marathon—
that old duo who always seem to be traveling together—the tortoise and the hare.
The brown hare hops 0.132 miles,
and the world's fastest tortoise, zooming by at less than one foot per second,
manages a mere 0.0017 miles (or just under nine feet.)
Slow and steady may win some races, but it wasn't enough for Popular Science's Ten Second Marathon.

WWE Last-Minute Survivor Series CHANGES! | WrestleTalk News Nov. 2017 - Duration: 4:21.Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News - I'm Oli Davis.
WWE Cut Down India Tour The Sorites Paradox concerns what exactly
constitutes a 'heap'. For instance, a million grains of sand poured on the ground
would be considered a 'heap'. Take one grain away, and it's still a 'heap'.
Take another, still a 'heap'. But at some point, after removing grain after grain after
grain, you'll be left with just a 'pile'. And that's the Sorites Paradox - at one
point does a 'heap' cease to exist? In much the same way, if you keep removing
dates from a WWE expansion into India, when is a tour no longer a tour?
WWE started their India-expansion project back in May this year, launching WWE Shop
there, hiring an executive to oversee operations in the country, and making Jinder Mahal WWE
Champion. Rumours had Jinder holding the title all the way through to WrestleMania, where
he'd defend against John Cena. This next stage was to be a two day tour of
India in December, but following a series of drastic changes to the Survivor Series
card, the decision was made for AJ Styles to beat Jinder for the championship. People
speculated that low TV ratings for Smackdown and low ticket sales for live events - including
the usually hot selling UK tours - forced WWE's hand. And now another low ticket sale
reason might have emerged: WWE have cancelled their December 8th live event. That's…
over 33 ⅓% of the India tour's two shows. WWE announced the news with a PR spin:
"To meet the requests of WWE fans in India, and deliver the biggest main event in the
country's history, WWE is combining two nights of family-friendly action into a one-night
only, exclusive Supershow." The new combined supershow has had a major
upgrade in the main event, though, with Jinder's original opponent Kevin Owens being replaced
by The Game Triple H. And in place of the Friday 8th date in India,
WWE will now run a live event in Abu Dhabi with a WrestleMania rematch of Triple H vs
Roman Reigns. And that isn't the only thing Triple H has
been added to last minute. Last-Minute Survivor Series Changes
This week's Raw saw The Game's surprise return to WWE TV, where he hasn't featured
since WrestleMania 33, to announce himself as the fifth man for Team Raw at Survivor
Series and then pedigree Jason Jordan in front of his kayfabe dad Kurt Angle. That's Father
of the Year stuff there, Kurt. Titus O'Neil better watch his back.
But much like the AJ Styles Smackdown title win, a change that was reportedly made only
five days before, significantly altering the Survivor Series main event, PWInsider report
that Triple H being added to Team Raw for the pay-per-view was only decided last weekend,
and Jordan only found out he was being replaced on Sunday night.
The decision for Charlotte to win the Women's Championship in her hometown - changing the
Survivor Series match from Alexa Bliss vs Natalya to Bliss vs Charlotte - was also reportedly
made over the weekend. This joins the other last-minute card reshuffling
of John Cena being added to Team Smackdown - instead of being the special guest referee
for the originally booked Brock Lesnar vs Jinder Mahal match - and Roman Reigns reuniting
with his Shield brothers Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins to take on the New Day, when
he was originally meant to be on Team Raw. WrestleCrate.co.uk Discount Code: 'WTTV'

Who Killed the Defense of Marriage Act? - Duration: 7:16.This video is a collaboration with Mr. Beat from...
Mr. Beat.
You should check out his video on Windsor v. United States after you watch this one.
Edith Windsor, or Edie as she used to go by, is one of the critical characters in America's
long struggle to legalise gay marriage.
Her story is one of love, loss, and an epic battle at the supreme court.
Let's Meet Edie.
I'm Tristan Johnson, and this is Step Back History.
Edith's story begins humbly enough.
She was a child of the depression, raised by Jewish Russian immigrants who ran a candy
store.
It was the thirties, so at school, she regularly experienced antisemitic bullying.
In 1950, she got herself a bachelor and a Masters degree in mathematics in 1957.
Right after that, she got herself a job working for IBM.
Kind of aside from the story, but she did a lot of exciting work in IBM that has to
do with operating systems.
At college, she met a man named Saul Windsor.
They had a relationship through college, with one minor break when Edith wanted to pursue
a relationship with another woman.
Nervous about the social implications; however, she turned back to Saul.
They married shortly after graduation, but it lasted less than a year.
She even told him at that time that she really was only interested in women.
In the late 50s, this was quite a hard thing to do!
In 1963, after moving to New York, Edith met Thea.
She was a Dutch psychologist.
They connected, and began to date about 2 years later.
They had to keep everything secret, to the point where they had to invent a fictional
brother to explain phone calls she'd get at the office.
When the couple got engaged, they had to use a pin with a diamond on it, rather than the
traditional ring.
While on vacation, the couple learned about the Stonewall Riots that happened in New York.
A brutal police crackdown on a gay nightclub in 1969.
From then on the couple joined in with the nascent Gay Rights movement, and Edith's
life as an activist began.
Things were pretty good for a while.
The couple travelled, entertained, partied, enjoyed all the domestic comforts of home,
but tragedy lurked close by.
In the late 70s, Thea was diagnosed with progressive multiple sclerosis.
It's an incurable degenerative disease where the protective coating on the nerve cells
begin to break down.
It progressively wears down the patient for years.
Over time, she would become more and more paralysed.
Edith took an early retirement severance package when IBM moved out of her area, and she focused
on two things, taking care of Thea and Gay Rights.
She joined in some prominent LGBT organisations.
She was a warrior during some of the most tumultuous times for the gay rights movement,
such as the brutal AIDS crisis of the 80s and 90s.
Thea's health continued to fail when she had a heart attack in 2002.
By 2007, doctors were giving her about a year left to live.
Gay marriage was still not legal in New York, and so the couple spirited away to where a
lot of American gay couples went for their nuptials, Canada.
Actually right here in Toronto.
Major papers like the New York Times published the bittersweet marriage.
And, just a few years later Thea passed away.
This is where Edith Windsor's story enters its most famous stage.
She was the plaintiff in the Supreme Court decision United States v. Windsor.
A supreme court case so big and complicated we'll need a well-written brief.
Luckily, Mr Beat over on his channel is releasing a supreme court brief on this case, which
you can see either on the card or the description.
He released it the same day as me… funny, it's almost like we planned it or something.
The decision forced the federal government to recognize gay marriages from the few states
that had legalised it.
Even after the supreme court decision, Edith fought to topple over the last dominos blocking
gay marriage.
In 2011, she lobbied several politicians to pass the Respect for Marriage Act.
It was a bill designed to kill the Defense of Marriage act and was supported by prominent
politicians like Bill Clinton (Who I might add signed DOMA INTO law, but liberals are
generous on social issues when and only when it's politically convenient).
The supreme court decision in 2015 rendered the bill useless, but it was the ongoing effort
in Congress to legalise gay marriage for at least a few years.
In 2016, Edith remarried.
A way to ring in the new legal marriage in America.
In her life, she earned a list of accolades, awards and recognitions a mile long for her
work in gay rights activism.
In the history of gay rights, she's a pretty crucial figure.
In his obituary of Edith, Robert Socarides said she was their Rosa Parks.
She did a lot of good, but I would be remiss if I didn't point out that some LGBTQ+ rights
activists wouldn't say she's a perfect icon.
I am not in the deification business after all.
She wasn't very intersectional, and there is disagreement in LGBTQ+ rights activism
if the fight for marriage was the ideal use of their resources.
Some argue that employment and housing discrimination, hate crimes, especially against trans women
of colour, title IX protections, mass incarceration, or homelessness are more pressing matters.
If you think about her fight with the supreme court, it is only one that someone of economic
privilege could do.
However, her battle with the supreme court, though it might have been about estate taxes,
also was a bold step forward for state recognition, and so her contribution there shouldn't
be undermined.
Almost unbefitting of such a hero, her lawyer announced just a couple months ago in September
of 2017 that Edith Windsor had passed away at the age of 88.
I was poking into this video idea just after Rowan Ellis talked about her as a leading
gay rights activist in this video, and I was shocked to find out she had died only a couple
days later.
Rest in Power Edith.
Thanks for watching folks!

How Solar Flares Affect Earth - Duration: 0:58.<music throughout>
How do solar flares impact Earth?
A solar flare is a burst of X-ray light.
We know that the Sun influences space all the way down to the Earth's upper atmosphere.
A new study observed
when the X-rays pulsated, so too did the lower ionosphere.
The ionosphere is the lowest level of space, a region of the upper atmosphere
about 30 - 600 feet above sea level.
It is home to the aurora, the International Space Station, radio waves, and satellites.
This is the first time we have seen its
response synchronized with solar flare pulsations.
Understanding how the Sun affects
near-Earth space helps us learn how to protect astronauts and satellites close to home.
