Hey Guys it's Sagar from Tecworkz.
OnePlus is doing it again.
After 6 months of launching the OnePlus 3 last year, they came out with an updated OnePlus
3T. 6 months after that came the OnePlus 5 with updated internals and design, and now
just 4-5 months after that here is the OnePlus 5T.
I'm not too sure if this update schedule is good or bad, but since the 5T is here already,
lets unbox and take a look at it.
But before that, make sure to hit the subscribe button, so you don't miss out on any of

The box is very similar to the OnePlus 5.
This time I went with 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage, since the 8GB RAM and 128GB OnePlus
5 was an overkill for me.
Phone is the first thing that we see, as we open the box.
At the front is a big display, and the fingerprint sensor is now moved to the back.
Lets keep the phone aside for now, and look further inside the box.
Inside this red box, we get a soft transparent TPU case for the 5T, its always nice to get
something like this included in the box.
We then have the quick start guide, security information, OnePlus stickers and the SIM
tray removal tool.
Next we have this signature red usb type c cable, and one of the best part about recent
OnePlus smartphones, the Dash charger.
Once you have used this, anything else, feels like slow charge.
Lets pack these things up, and get back to the phone.
Other than the bigger display at the front, and the fingerprint sensor at the back, design
is mostly similar to the OnePlus 5.
I am not a big fan of the rear fingerprint sensor placement on smartphones, but if it
has to be placed at the back, this centre placement, is much better than what Samsung
has been doing, with their flagship devices.
We still have dual cameras at the back, but the telephoto camera, is now replaced with
a 20 megapixel camera of a similar focal length, to that of the 16 Megapixel sensor, and both
have a wide F/1.7 Aperture.
There is still no Optical Image stabilisation on either of these lenses.
But this setup is said to give us better portrait images, and also better low light performance.
I will have to test its camera out in the next few days, and then have more to say about
it, in an upcoming video.
Coming back to that big display.
its a 6 inch, AMOLED panel with 18:9 aspect ratio, and a resolution of 2160x1080pixels.
I don't mind it being a 1080p panel, as it will definitely help the battery last a
bit longer.
And since I know, someone is going to ask about this in the comments section, Yes it
has a slight blue shift in colours when you look at the display off axis, this is just
how AMOLED panels are, and No it is nowhere as bad as on the Pixel 2 XL.
Face unlock is not new to android phones.
It is not as secure as FaceID on the new iPhone X, but it unlocks the phone faster, than I
have seen it work on any other phone.
It might not be the most reliable form of security on android devices, one of the reason
being, it doesn't work in dark.
OnePlus also doesn't let you use the face unlock feature to securely make payments or
sign into the apps, for this purpose, we still have the fingerprint sensor at the back, which
is one of the fastest in the market, and it has been this way for a long time on OnePlus
devices.
At the bottom is a speaker grill, USB Type C port, and yes, 5T retains a 3.5mm audio
jack.
All the buttons are at the exact same place as on the OnePlus 5, they give a very satisfying
tactile feedback, but I think, they are a bit too thin.
Which is actually in line with the overall design of this phone.
It is really thin, and actually feels very light for a device of this size.
Inside, 5T still packs in similar internals as the OnePlus 5.
Snapdragon 835 Processor, Adreno 540 GPU, 6 or 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 64 or 128GB of UFS
2.1 storage, and 3300 mAh battery.
It supports LTE, dual band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC, and comes with all the necessary
sensors.
It ships with android 7.1.1, which makes no sense, since the OnePlus 3 and 3T received
the Orio update, a few days before the 5T went on sale.
OnePlus could have easily shipped it with Orio, but they decided to ship it with Nougat,
and update it to Orio after a few days, so the users are under an illusion, that the
company is keen on pushing out major software updates.
I wish OnePlus included Optical stabilisation on one of the lenses, for even better low
light performance, and many users also expect to get a bigger battery and a higher resolution
screen, so I am not too sure, for how long, can OnePlus get away with these 1080p panels.
So overall I really like how the 5T looks and feels in the hand, it is surprisingly
light for its size, It's always good to have a bigger screen with smaller bezels,
specially for playing games and consuming media.
I cant say much about the camera and the battery life at this moment, since I haven't used
this phone even for a full day.
And I am sure the overall performance of this phone, is just as fast as the OnePlus 5, since
it shares the same internals.
I still feel that it should have shipped with Android 8, but I am sure we will see an update
in a couple of weeks, if not days.
I am not a big fan of this device update cycle from OnePlus.
While it might be good for new customers, who are looking to get new devices, but it
is hurting their existing customers, who purchase these devices at the launch, or few days after
the launch.
