Trump arrives in Seoul and shares surprise lunch with President Moon at U.S. military base - Duration: 2:34.

U.S. President Donald Trump has arrived in South Korea, marking the first official State

Visit by a sitting U.S. President in 25 years.

He will be holding crunch talks with President Moon Jae-in, with the main topic on the agenda

being the North Korea nuclear situation.

But first he is currently visiting a U.S. military base.

To tell us more about his visit we now connect with Kwon Jang-ho at the foreign ministry.

Jang-ho, how has President Trump's arrival been marked?

Good afternoon, Daeun.

President Trump has arrived safe, about an hour and a half ago.

As you mentioned, although U.S. presidents have visited South Korea several times over

the last few years, this is the first formal state visit in 25 years.

So that means laying out the red carpet and a guard of honor and President Trump was also

greeted by the foreign minister, Kang Kyung-hwa.

He then promptly hopped aboard Marine One, the President's helicopter that was specially

brought in from the U.S. and he travelled to Camp Humphreys, a U.S. military base about

60 kilometers south of Seoul.

However, he was also met with a surprise welcome by President Moon Jae-in at Camp Humphreys,

after an unannounced change to the schedule.

They met with American and South Korean troops and shared lunch with them at the military

canteen.

They will be on their way to the Blue House in Seoul soon, where an official welcoming

ceremony will be waiting, before official talks take place.

The two will begin discussions soon, and anticipation is high over what will come out of those talks,

but what can we expect?

Well first, the message they will want to send is of a strong South Korea-U.S. alliance

and cooperation in tackling the North Korea nuclear situation.

They are likely to reiterate their stance of strong pressure and sanctions, but while

President Moon continues to encourage dialogue as well, President Trump is said to have agreed

with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, that "now is not the time for dialogue."

But despite this difference, earlier this morning on Twitter, Trump described Moon as

a quote "fine gentleman", and said, "We will figure it all out "

So there seems to be a positive tone to this visit.

After the talks, the two Presidents will hold a joint press conference together, and later

in the evening there will be also be a lavish state dinner.

Back to you, Daeun.

Opera: 400 years of passion - Duration: 13:41.

Welcome to this opera panorama.

Let us guide you through times and places to discover why opera is of its essence a truly European art form.

Opera is the art of emotions.

All its components come together to give the audience a total experience,

arousing all senses, to touch each person's imagination and sensibility.

All human passions are at work.

Opera was invented at the end of the 16th century in Florence,

at the end of the Italian Renaissance.

A group of musicians was looking to revive Greek drama.

The first opera still known today is L'Orfeo, composed by Claudio Monteverdi in 1607.

At the time, opera was for the élite, music was subservient to words and the action was rather static.

The success of this renewed form of theatre gradually grew,

finding new venues, inspiring young composers

and spreading the interest across latin Europe.

George Friedrich Handel was born in Germany

but learned his craft in Italy and moved to London where his career blossomed,

with several operas being premiered at the Covent Garden opera house.

The French king Louis XIV was a fervent opera lover,

and founder of the Académie Royale de Musique, which later became the Paris National Opera.

Italian-born Jean-Baptiste Lully and French Jean-Philippe Rameau were composers of the royal court,

presenting their works in Versailles.

The first commercial opera house opened in Venice in the middle of the 17th century,

making the art form accessible to a wider public.

In the 18th century, throughout Europe, opera was mostly sung in Italian,

musicians were financially dependent on local patrons

and opera houses were meeting places where people gathered to drink, gamble and do business.

The most iconic composer of this time is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Known as a child prodigy from Salzburg, he travelled through Europe.

Mozart's genius was incomparable,

and the works he has left us are still considered masterpieces of the most contemporary relevance

with remarkable insights into the human condition.

From his hometown of Salzburg to the Estates Theatre in Prague,

from the Teatro Regio Ducal in Milano to the Burgtheater in Vienna,

his operas could be inspired by Greek mythology to create great tragedies,

or could look into the human soul in light-hearted opera buffa.

Though most of his operas were sung in Italian,

such as Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte and La finta giardiniera,

his last opera, Die Zauberflöte, The Magic Flute, was sung and spoken in German.

From the mid-18th century through the early 19th century,

Italian opera developed what is now known as a bel canto style.

Composers began to write long, sustained vocal lines intended to show the beauty of the voice.

These melodies presented often ornaments such as trills, turns, and runs that demanded great vocal agility.

To support the singer's efforts, the orchestra was kept to a simple accompaniment.

The composers did not want to detract from the exquisite vocal lines.

The most important composers were Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti and Vincenzo Bellini.

The 19th century saw the European political landscape change.

With the birth of redesigned nations and the rise of nationalism,

different traditions developed in different countries.

The development of the romantic era saw the arrival of Giuseppe Verdi,

Richard Wagner, Georges Bizet, Hector Berlioz and Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The Belgian revolution was sparked by a performance of La Muette de Portici by Auber.

It is said that the audience was so empassioned and empowered by what they saw

that they marched out to get the independence of their country.

In Italy, Giuseppe Verdi wrote his masterpieces which allied spectacular show and subtle emotions.

Verdi worked famous plays into operas, such as Shakespeare, for Othello,

Falstaff or Macbeth or Victor Hugo for Rigoletto

and Alexandre Dumas for La traviata.

Un ballo in maschera tells the true story of the assassination of king Gustav III of Sweden

as he was attending a masked ball at the Opera.

His well-known opera Aida was commissioned for the opening of the Suez canal.

Verdi's operas opened around Italy,

from Milano's Teatro alla Scala to Teatro San Carlo in Napoli,

and are still a core part of the opera repertory today.

Richard Wagner brought forward the idea of Gesamtkunstwerk

a term which describes the power of great opera to bring together not only music and words,

but drama, poetry and powerful staging in spectacular sets.

His career started in the provincial Germany, as music director of the opera house in Magdeburg.

He then took the same position in Riga, which was then part of the Russian empire,

during which time he worked on his opera Rienzi.

The most impressive work of Richard Wagner is certainly Der Ring des Nibelungen,

a masterpiece made of 4 epic operas based loosely on Norse mythology.

Giacomo Puccini was the successor of Verdi and belonged to the new wave of 'verismo' composers.

He was a master manipulator of emotions,

and his operas La Boheme, Tosca and Madama Butterfly

have become central to the repertory throughout the world.

As Opera became more accessible and diverse,

the beginning of the 20th century welcomed many interesting individuals.

Richard Strauss was Wagner's successor and the master of orchestration.

He composed intensely expressive dramas based on classical stories like Salome and Elektra,

but also charming Viennese comedies such as Der Rosenkavalier and Arabella.

Claude Debussy is the foremost French Impressionist composer.

His Pelleas et Melisande evokes a magical world with subtle colours and understatement.

Viennese Alban Berg only composed two operas

but they have been more influential than any others written in the last century.

Wozzeck gives humanity to the suffering of a downtrodden common soldier,

his mistress and their vulnerable child.

Lulu embodies the sexual magnetism which captivates men, women and boys,

yet which contrives its heroine's own destruction.

Leoš Janáček forged a new musical language based on speech patterns in his native Moravia.

He lived most of his life in Brno, which had the first opera house lit by electricity.

Three great Russian composers dominate the 20th century with symphonies, ballets and operas.

Prokofiev progressed from anarchic comedy and fantasy

through socialist realism to the epic canvas of his setting of Tolstoy's War and Peace.

Shostakovich's operatic career was brutally foreshortened

when his vivid masterpiece Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk was banned by Stalin.

Stravinsky left his homeland after his early ballets

and wrote his neo-classical Oedipus Rex and The Rake's Progress in the west.

Benjamin Britten is the most performed opera composer of the second half of the 20th century.

His melodic gift and acute word setting are evident in grand operas such as Peter Grimes and Billy Budd

and chamber operas like his ghost story The Turn of the Screw.

As technology evolved and audiences expanded and the importance of access to art was recognised,

new opera houses have been built throughout Europe.

And the rest of the world also wants to be involved.

From the Metropolitan Opera of New York to the iconic Sydney Opera House,

opera is a vibrant, creative and innovative industry.

The Nordic countries have invested in contemporary venues,

in Helsinki, Oslo, Malmö, Göteborg and Copenhagen.

Karlsruhe's theatre was built in 1975 and has great plans for expansion over the next decade.

The Sultanate of Oman opened its own opera house a few years ago,

followed last year by the Dubai Opera House.

Opera is a powerful medium.

It reaches out to everyone,

overcomes national and linguistic barriers through the universal language of music,

and brings strong messages to the most diverse audience.

Opera is truely a European art form,

part of our heritage,

but mostly

part of our future.

Welcoming ceremony opening - Duration: 7:05.

Well, that brings us to the end of our daily news at this hour, but don't go away.

Like I mentioned at the beginning of this newscast, we have special live coverage lined

up for you on the welcoming ceremony for U.S. President Donald Trump, who arrived in Seoul

just a few hours ago.

This is the first state visit by a U.S. President in 25 years, and South Korea's presidential

office of Cheongwadae has made a lot of effort to prepare accordingly for this occasion of

high significance.

Do note that there are four levels of visit by a foreign leader or minister-- there's

a 'state visit' which is the highest level of visit, and then there's an 'official

visit', followed by a 'working visit' and a 'private visit'.

Usually when a foreign leader makes an 'official visit', the welcoming ceremony is held at

the airport upon arrival.

But since President Trump is on a 'state visit, he will be greeted at the highest level

at the Blue House, with some 700 soldiers, sailors and airmen, along with military bands,

all participating to greet President Trump and first lady Melania Trump.

President Moon Jae-in did greet him already though at Camp Humphreys in Pyongtaek soon

after President Trump's arrival, in a surprise move.

But the official welcoming ceremony will be held at the top office with the highest honor

and courtesy.

After the ceremony, which we will bring you live any minute now, Presidents Moon and Trump

will get right down to business and hold summit talks that are expected to last for about

80 minutes.

A press conference will be held on the outcome of their bilateral talks, which will likely

be the highlight of President Trump's visit to South Korea as his visit comes at a critical

time politically and economically, with a lot of hot issues at hand between the two

nations.

The press hearing which will take place at around 4:45 p.m. Korea time, will also be

brought to you live on Arirang News so don't miss it.

The two leaders are also expected to take a friendly stroll around the Blue House for

a more frank and intimate discussions and a state dinner is planned for tonight.

For those of you who have just joined us, we're about to bring you the welcoming ceremony

for U.S. President Donald Trump who arrived in Seoul a few hours ago.

Now, before the welcoming ceremony begins, let's talk a bit about the various issues

surrounding President Trump's visit to South Korea.

To get an expert's perspective, we're now joined by Dr. Park Jee-Kwang, a research

fellow at the Sejong Institute.

Thank

you so much

for joining us, Dr. Park.

South Korea's Blue House ready to host Trump; official welcome ceremony just ahead - Duration: 2:54.

The presidential Blue House has been preparing for this visit by U.S President Donald Trump

for some time now.

We are now just moments away from the official welcome ceremony at Seoul's presidential palace.

Let's go live to our chief Blue House correspondent Moon Connyoung.

Connyoung, is the Blue House up and ready for the ceremony?

President Moon Jae-in's Blue House is up and ready to host its very first foreign head-of-state

and his delegation... and of course, the first state visit by a U.S. president in quarter

century.

Time and time again, the Blue House had reiterated that it's doing all that it can to make sure

America's first couple see and feel due welcome here in South Korea.

South Korea's commander in chief made his first gesture of heartfelt welcome by making

a surprise visit to U.S. Garrison Humphreys, the newest and biggest overseas U.S. base

roughly 60 kilometers from Seoul... to greet his U.S. counterpart.

This is the first time that a South Korean president has greeted the visiting U.S. president

at an U.S. army base.

The Blue House explains the surprise welcome today is aimed at underscoring the ironclad

South Korea, U.S. alliance --- it's one of three key agenda items that are expected to

center stage when the two presidents sit down for a one-on-one and a bilateral summit later

this afternoon here at the Blue House.

In less than half an hour from now, the official welcome ceremony will take place at the Blue

House.

You might wonder, why not upon arrival at the Osan base like previous visits by U.S.

presidents.

And that's because this is a state visit and not official or working visits.

There are a number of differences especially in terms of protocol between these different

categories of diplomatic visits; one of which is that the visiting delegation is officially

greeted at the presidential palace.

That will be followed by a one-on-one between Mr. Moon and Trump - the third of its kind

since the two took office this year... and expanded summit... and a joint press conference.

We'll have more updates as they take place, Daeun.

How to play Golf with the Attitude Consultant - Duration: 3:23.

One of the important life lessons I teach is relaxation

and for a lot of people they like to unwind with a good game of golf.

So on today's program that's what we're going to do

play a game of golf

and I'm going to teach you the do's and don'ts next time you find yourself on the golf course

Lesson one, dress code.

Alright, when playing golf it's always important to look the part

and I have one golden rule:

dress like you would dress if you wanted to get beaten up.

With practice down here at the driving range

you too can learn to hit the ball hundreds of meters.

Oh f**k!

Jesus.

One more time.

Did you feel that tremor? Alright?

We're on a fault line at the moment.

I know this because over my time

I've played on hundreds and hundreds of faulty golf courses.

Jesus mate, it's like a f**king easter egg hunt here.

Lesson three, is the putt.

When putting, it's always important to remain calm and focused.

F**k.

Lesson four, upgrading your equipment.

Look, as you can see my equipment needs upgrading

for obvious reasons, okay.

So I've been Rohan Harry, your Attitude Consultant, signing off.

Remember, you too can be as successful as me.

Oh yeah, one more piece of advice.

If you do decide to throw your bag in the river,

remember, make sure you don't have your f**king car keys in there
