Trump Granted Special Honor Chinese Have Bestowed on No Other President.

On Wednesday, as part of his trip to China, President Trump became the first U.S. president

to receive a dinner inside Beijing's Forbidden City, the New York Daily News reported.

"President Trump is being treated like a royal during his visit to China, and received

a rare dinner inside the country's most famed imperial palace," the newspaper noted.

"Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday as part of his 12-day tour of Asia, and was greeted

by a small army of children waving American and Chinese flags as part of an elaborate

welcoming ceremony."

According to WKOW-TV, no foreign leader has received a dinner inside the palace in 68

years — since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The Forbidden City is an elaborate palace complex that served as the seat of the Imperial

Chinese Dragon Throne from 1420 to 1912.

It was built after Emperor Zhu Di moved the capital of the Chinese empire from Nanjing

to Beijing.

Constructed over a period of 14 years, it required a million workers to complete.

When the Republic of China came into being in the early 20th century, the Forbidden City

ceased to be the seat of government.

In 1925, parts of it became a museum.

While a state dinner in the Forbidden City is unheard of for a U.S. president, it is

worth noting that during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States

earlier this year, President Trump took him to Mar-a-Lago, a stately residence of slightly

more recent provenance.

I guess Xi was just returning the favor.

Fatuous jokes aside, the state dinner had obvious political implications.

In the past month, Xi has been in the process of one of the most impressive consolidations

of power in China since the Mao years.

In mid-October, the Chinese leader presided over the 19th Party Congress — a gathering

that, in a country where democracy is non-existent, serves in its decisiveness as the dictatorial

version of election night.

It was the first Party Congress Xi chaired, and, as The Economist noted, "(t)he test

will reveal whether he is a rule-breaker or a rule-keeper."

Xi definitely went the rule-breaker route.

At the Congress, he introduced "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics

for a New Era."

That sounds more snoozeworthy than a cricket match on rain delay, but much like Ron Burgundy,

it's kind of a big deal.

A Chinese leader putting his name on a program that guides Beijing's future development

both nationally and internationally is almost unprecedented since Mao, and the fact that

it's mostly accepted by the party faithful has made Xi the most powerful Chinese ruler

in decades.

Or, as Trump put it more succinctly, "Now some people might call him the king."

Now that he's consolidated power at home, smoothing things over abroad is Xi's next

big challenge, particularly when it comes to the United States.

Trump has repeatedly called out China on trade and its relationship with North Korea, both

issues that could destabilize Xi's hold on power in the long term should things get

ugly.

Thus, the royal welcome and the state dinner inside the Forbidden City, a historical site

of considerable pride for a country known for considerable nationalism makes sense.

That's probably not going to make anyone in the Trump administration forget about Beijing's

on-again-off-again relationship with Pyongyang or its trade policies — but if flattery

won't get China everywhere in this case, one guesses Xi and his retinue hope it will

at least get them somewhere.

ASK AN ADOPTED PERSON - Duration: 2:40.

We find today many couples asking about the aspect of adoption.

I can talk with authority about the aspect because I was adopted myself.

I keep thinking back that little girl

wondering what would have become of her

if someone had not had the courage

to seek out a child that was not of their own,

in order to embrace, in order to love, in order to educate.

From a spiritist or a spiritualist point of view,

we find that there is an amazing law that talks about spiritual ties

and not just family ties.

We find couples that are anguished,

that for one reason or another are unable to conceive.

We find same-sex couples who wish to constitute a family

and are unable to do so.

And so they seek out those tiny souls that are in need

of assistance, of being embraced, of being adopted,

of being brought into a home to be educated and to be loved.

There are so many kids in the world today

looking for a parent.

There are so many children that are hoping for an adult

to take the time to look at them, not down to them but at them,

and extend their arms as if to say

let the little children come to me as it was stated 2,000 years ago.

We encourage from a Spiritist perspective,

for couples to look for these children,

to look in their eyes and recognize the family ties

and the spiritual ties that unite them.

Seek them out with the responsibility

that entails having patience with the soul

that is coming into their lives.

Be open to this understanding.

Sure it didn't take nine months to generate them in your womb,

yet, the heart speaks language,

has processes that is unknown to mankind.

Open your heart to a child

if you're seeking to put forth the maternity,

the paternity aspect because after all,

we are all adopted.

Our Creator, our Father placed us on this earth

to be embraced by other beings.

You were adopted and so as I.

Our divine origin resides in our Father above, our Creator.

2018 Will be THE BEST Year for Nintendo Switch Games - Duration: 9:07.

Nintendo Switch is 2017's MVP.

No questions asked.

No contest.

Releases like Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids, and

most recently Super Mario Odyssey have all set the world on fire in their own special

way.

These games amongst others have led to the platform reaching more than half of Nintendo's

previous console, Wii U's lifetime sales numbers in 6 months.

This kind of momentum is rare.

Not just for Nintendo, but, for the industry.

For context, the current gen golden child, PS4, is currently being pretty handily outpaced

by Switch.

At this point in PS4's life, that system was more than 600,000 hardware units behind

and more than 7 MILLION software units behind Nintendo Switch.

This is all without the benefit of a holiday launch, or a staggered release across regions

to better gauge and prepare stock.

These feats have been deemed by Nintendo's president, Tatsumi Kimishima, as "Wii-like."

&, if he's right in that, we're in for 1 hell of a 2018.

Many are doubtful of Nintendo's ability to keep up the current pace of Nintendo Switch,

and, honestly, I can't blame them.

In the time since Nintendo Switch has been released more than 200 hundred games have

been published for the platform.

That is a RIDICULOUS amount of games for a console's 1st few months.

More importantly than that, 2 of those games (maybe more depending on who you ask.)

Are heavy hitting contenders for Game of the Year 2017.

More about that in the video linked in the top right corner.

Most consoles are lucky to have any memorable games at all in their launch windows, let

alone generation defining games in that amount of time.

One game in that window has been done before on previous generations.

Super Mario World & Super Mario 64 come to mind.

But, 2 on 1 platform is UNPRECEDENTED.

How could 2018 outclass that??

Well, if I'm honest, it won't be easy, but, it's definitely possible and if history's

any indication, we're looking pretty good in that regard.

Let's look at Nintendo's last platform's 2nd years on the market with the knowledge

that they've made it a point to prioritize a steady release schedule over the scattered

bursts that were common for them back then.

Due to it's relatively short life and low sales we didn't get a WHOLE LOT of big releases

for the Wii U, but, the console's 2nd full year on the market brought a few heavy hitters.

Namely: Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Super

Smash Brothers for Wii U, and a few others I'd say the situations for Switch and Wii

U are pretty directly comparative.

In Wii U's first year it got a Zelda game, Mario Kart 8, & even a 3D Mario game (yes,

a 3D Mario game.)

With that in consideration having representation from that many big Nintendo franchises with

a touch of 3rd party support is a big deal and a good indicator of what we can expect

for Switch's 2nd year.

3rd parties in particular will DEFINITELY DRAMATICALLY improve on Wii U's offering

with Switch.

Just this week we've seen statements from companies singing praises for it and detailing

just how successful it's been for them, despite them all being pretty tepid on Switch

support in 2017.

Switch is responsible for 19% of Ubisoft's profits, which, is tied with PC's portion

of their profits.

There are currently TWO major Ubisoft games on Nintendo Switch.

Compared to the 7 released on other platforms.

6 of which aren't available on Switch.

ALL of which are available on all of the other platforms with the only exception being Mario

+ Rabbids.

I think it's safe to assume we'll be seeing some 2018 announcements from them.

Though they were less specific, Bandai Namco has a similar story to tell.

All 3 of the games released are selling favorably for them and they've pledged to reveal 3

MAJOR exclusive throughout 2018.

That's not to mention any multi platform games that'll likely make their way to Switch.

In particular, I think a Dark Souls collection is pretty likely at this point considering

From Soft's statement from December 2016.

They've confirmed having Dark Souls 3 running on Switch at a level they were happy with,

and were waiting to see if it would be financially viable to release the trilogy on Switch.

I think it's safe to say, good ports sell well on Switch.

Which, leads me to Take Two's statement.

Take Two currently has 1 game available on Switch, 2K 18.

And another one on the way, L.A Noire.

They made it clear that they are pleased with 2K18's current performance and have pledged

support for Switch on a CORPORATE level moving forward.

Specifically hinting at future Rockstar announcements in particular.

I think a Grand Theft Auto V announcement for Switch is inevitable at this point.

All of the stars are aligned and it'll give another shot in the arm to the already meteoric

sales.

Which, I'm also in a video about.

You know what?

I'm gonna make a playlist with all of the videos I mentioned.

Check those out if you like this one afterwards!

Bethesda has 3 games coming to Switch and have already thrown their hat in the ring

for more, despite known of those games being out, just yet.

Blizzard has even voiced potential interest in Switch ports of Hearthstone and Overwatch.

I sort of wanna group the Japanese publishers together given the fact that their response

is less surprising.

Most of them were sold on Switch from day 0, even Konami threw their hat in the ring

for god's sake.

& they seem to be teasing something from Mega Man or Castlevania making an appearance.

Capcom released 2 games for Switch.

Despite their stupid excuse for lacking in support, they made it a point to label the

Ultra Street Fighter II port as a "smash hit" and they've stated that they will

be preparing multiple Switch versions of their titles moving forward.

Koei Tecmo is quote "extremely happy" with the success of Switch and they even went

as far as volleying some SICK BURNS at other companies for being hesitant with their Switch

support.

Square Enix says none of their franchises are off limits for Switch and they will be

aggressively supporting Switch.

This makes my mind gravitate towards a Kingdom Hearts 3 port, that long talked about Final

Fantasy 15 port,

Really, every major third party you can think of is moving full speed ahead toward Switch,

well… except EA.

EA say FIFA 18 for Switch was the worst performing version by far….

thing is…

That was a bad port…

Never mind the fact that they didn't even make it a point to port a game that appeals

to Nintendo fans sensibilities.

They had a lot of low cost options.

I'm sure plenty of Nintendo fans would've bought into a Plants vs Zombies game, or even

games more suited to the hardcore home console gaming on the go vision.

Maybe a Dead Space Trilogy port?

Maybe save Visceral?

A STAR WARS GAME????

But, whatever.

EA's gonna EA, so, let's just ignore them and move on.

All of this is to say, Switch has a ton of 3rd party publishers (over 300 to be exact)

ready to make games for Switch, many of which will likely release in 2018.

In fact, I'd say a majority of the third party games me and Bob from the Wulff Den

wanted in our video about 3rd party games are very much a possibility given these positive

statements from the companies behind those very games.

This is in addition to the 1st party games we know about, being Yoshi for Nintendo Switch,

Kirby Star Allies, & Fire Emblem for Switch.

Nintendo reps also claim we'll see Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon for Nintendo Switch in

2018.

That's not to mention the games we know nothing about.

At this last year we didn't know about almost any of the big Nintendo Switch games, we can

expect to hear similar announcements from Nintendo's 1st party teams moving forward.

What's Retro Studios working on?

Where's Smash Bros?

What happened with Mother 3?

According to Reggie Fils Aime, we'll have an answer for a majority of these questions

next year.

I also have a good feeling about Switch's chances to see apps released in 2018, Virtual

Console, better online functionality with the confirmed full roll out of Switch Online.

2017 was a great freshman year for Nintendo Switch, but, I think, 2018 is when it will

REALLY solidify itself as the undisputed top dog as is common with Nintendo handhelds.Regardless,

we'll likely know more come January.

That's usually a good time for Nintendo Directs.

But, those my MY thoughts.

What do YOU think?

Do you think Switch will have an even better 2018 than 2017?

What games do you think we'll see?

Top 10 Secret Messages Sent By Hostages - Duration: 8:16.

Hello guys, welcome back to Most Amazing Top 10 - my name is Danny Burke and today were

talking about hostages.

Sometimes, for many different reasons, a person takes another person and wont let them leave.

They are a hostage.

But sometimes, that hostage comes up with a clever way of communicating with the people

trying to save them.

These are true, mind blowing stories - this is the Top 10 Secret Messages Sent By Hostages.

Coming in at number 10 we have the Pizza App.

In 2015, a story emerged of a woman who used the Pizza Hut app to escape from her abusive

boyfriend.

Cheryl Treadway was a 25 year old woman who was being held against her will by her boyfriend.

He was high on meth and had a knife, running out the door was not really an option.

So, one night, she convinced him to let them order a pizza through the Pizza Hut app.

When the order came through, it was for a large pepperoni pizza and the message read:

Please Help.

Get 911 to me.

The Pizza hut employees passed the details on to the police who arrived at the house

to arrest the boyfriend and get the woman and her children to safety.

What an amazing story …

Next up at number 9 we have Torture.

In 1965, Jeremiah Dentons jet was shot down during the Vietnam War in 1965.

He was taken as a prisoner of war by the North Vietnamese.

He was one of the earliest and highest ranked officers ever to be taken prisoner there so

his captors forced him to participate in a television interview.

It was also shown in the US.

During the interview, Denton kept blinking.

He told them it was because of how bright the television lights were but actually, those

blinks were sending a message.

The blinks were Morse Code.

When the US decoded them, they realised he was spelling out the word Torture.

It was a scary message for the US government to receive.

Denton was released in 1973 after 8 years as a prisoner.

He was awarded for his bravery.

Coming in at number 8 now we hav My Dear Mummy.

In 1940, Sub Lieutenant John Pryor was captured by the Germans during WW2.

He would send home innocent letters talking about the prisons vegetable garden or what

book he was reading.

However, they contained secret messages about how he had been captured on what was going

on in the prison camp.

They were coded complexy and when John came to write his memoirs in 1980, he had actually

forgotten his own code!

It took a team of mathematicians to crack it.

However, they were about 40 years too late.

I don't have time to go into how the code works but I don't doubt that John Pryor was

a very clever man!

At number 7 now we have The Pizza Call.

This was a story shared on reddit by Keith Wy-singer.

Hes a police dispatchr who answers emergency calls.

One day, he answered the phone: 911, what is your emergency?

-123 ain St- Ok, whats going on there?

- Id like to order a pizza for delivery - Mam, youve reached 911 - Yeah I know, can i have

a large with half pepperoni, half mushroom and peppers?

- Keith was very confused but the penny dropped when he asked if she couldnt talk about this

emergency because there was someone in the room with her.

She replied yes, thats correct.

He sent a police officer to the house and found her beaten up with a drunken boyfriend.

He was arrested.

Keith praised the woman for her quick thinking and ingenuity.

Next up at number 6 we have The Dutch Train Hostage Crisis.

In 1975, 7 terrorists seized a train with 50 passengers on board in the Netherlands.

The driver was immediately killed.

On the 3rd day, another hostage was killed.

The Dutch government were paralyzed.

Did they hold out and hope for the terrorists to surrender, or do they try and save them,

risking a bloody gun battle that could kill all of the hostages?

Then, one night, a man aboard the train used a mirror to flash a message at the police

in Morse code.

It said -come and help us get out- … this convinced the government to take action.

Less than 24 hours later, a gun battle broke out.

There were injuries and deaths on both sides but finally, the soldiers were able to rescue

most of the hostages.

Maybe we should all learn Morse Code!

Next up at number 5 we have ISIS.

In 2014, terrorists claiming to be in ISIS took hostages in a cafe in Sydney.

A mother called Mel said that she had received a message from her 18 year old son who was

one of the hostages.

This is despite the terrorists strictly controlling contact with those outside of the cafe.

The text simply said -Mum, Im in the Lindt cafe in Syndney- her heart stopped and she

text back asking -What is going on?

Are you OK?- he replied -Im ok mum, cant talk- … that was the last she heard from him.

Fortunately, he made it out alive.

However, two hostages were killed during the event.

At number 4 now we have The Pirates.

In 2009, Paul and Rachel Chandler were captured by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean.

They had been keeping a blog of their travels but after not posting for a few days, the

family became concerned - the area was known to be dangerous.

Before they left, the family had agreed to not send them a message saying -Emergency.

Call urgently- because they didnt want to cause any panic that might put them in danger.

Instead, family member Sarah went on to Rachels blog and simply wrote -please ring Sarah-

… when they didnt get a reply, they raised the alarm.

It took an astonishing 13 months but eventually Paul and Rachel were released.

Ok for our number 3 now we have The Colombian Message.

This one is actually people sending a secret message TO a hostage but its too good to leave

out.

In 2010, the FARC Guerrillas had been holding some hostages from the Columbian government

for years.

The Columbian army wanted to let them know that they hadnt been forgotten and to not

give up hope.

They needed a message that would slip by the soldiers but not an observant hostags.

So, they inserted a secret Morse code message into a popular song that was being played

on the Radio.

Listen very carefully here for the little bips in the background of the music.

If you translate that, it says -19 people rescued.

Youre next.

Don't lose hope.- the message was heard, the hostages didnt give up hope and were eventually

rescued … Next up at number 2 now we have the Chinese

Letter.

In May 2017, an Arizona woman bought a purse from Walmart.

When she got home, she found a note.

It was written in a Chinese dialect and appeared to be from a desperate prisoner.

The note said that prisoners were being forced to work 14 hours a day with no breaks.

If they didnt finish, they were beaten.

If they got sick, the cost of medicine was deducted from their salary.

They signed off by saying Prison in China is unlike prison in America.

Walmart said there was no way to verify the origin of the letter but some say this is

proof that companies are not doing enough to check where their products are being made

… And finally at number 1 we have the Stitching.

During WW2, Major Alexis Casdagli was taken prisoner by the Germans in 1941 and sent to

a prison camp.

He passed the time by sewing.

He would sew intricate pieces with beautiful patterns.

The Nazis were so impressed by them that they would hang them in their offices at the prison.

However, little did they know that the pieces contained secret messages.

Around the edges was a pattern of Morse Code.

If the Nazis had decoded this, it would have read God Save The King and Fuck Hitler.

Both of these messages could have got Alexis killed if they were decoded.

Luckily, they never were for the 4 years until the war ended.

The stitching's have now appeared in museums in London.

Well guys, I hope you enjoyed that.

Did you find the secret message that I left in this video?

I hope not, because I didnt leave a message.

Or did I.

My name is Danny Burke, thanks for watching and Ill see you all in the next video.

Is Saakashvili Putin's Worst Nightmare? - VisualPolitik EN - Duration: 13:04.

In this video, we are going to take a look at the career of one of the most surprising

and controversial figures of the Century.

That figure is Mikheil Saakashvili.

Wait a second, don't you know him?

Well, imagine a person who is capable of being the one of the best of allies of Washington

and, at the same, the greatest enemy of Vladimir Putin.

He was  the president of one country, a candidate to preside over another, and, today, he doesn´t

even have a nationality.

A man, a politician worthy of starring in a political thriller.

In fact, now that I mention it, it wouldn't be surprising to see a Netflix original produced

about this guy..

Well, this is today´s character: Mikheil Saakashvili.

MISHA, THE GOVERNOR

In order to start our story, we need to go back to May the 30th, 2015.

That day, Petro Poroshenko, the president of Ukraine, appointed Mikheil Saakashvili

as the governor of the province of Odessa.

With this position, Misha was given Ukranian nationality.

However, to become a Ukranian citizen,  he had to give up citizenship from his home country,

Georgia: a country he had led as President between 2004 and 2013.

His addition to the Ukrainian government was quite the treat for the media.

And it is only logical.

You see, at that time, Ukraine was going through a really tense situation.

After the so-called Maidan revolution and the fall of the pro-Russian president, Victor

Yanukovich, there was almost a feeling of civil war in Ukraine: a war between Kiev´s

supporters, and Moscow´s.

And Odessa was one of the most pro-Russian provinces.

So you can imagine the whole picture: a foreign ex president, and not just any ex president,

but one of Putin´s worst enemies, appointed as governor of Odessa...

This event was hugely discussed in all the national as well as international press.

The president of Ukraine who was, by the way, an old friend and fellow college student of

Misha´s, Petro Poroshenko, described Misha as "the man w upho makes possible the impossible"

Flattering...right.

At that time their friendship seemed to be "bulletproof".

Well, the mission of the new governor was to stabilize Odessa, grant power to Kiev,

chase corruption, and set the groundwork for the region to prosper.

In order to carry it all out, Misha brought many of his former collaborators from Georgia.

He also hired many Ukrainian young professionals who he thought to be corruption free, like

Yulia Marushevska, an activist who became famous here on YouTube, with the video "I

am a Ukrainian".

Misha also brought in some people from Putin´s opposition in Russia, like the Russian activist

Maria Gaidar, who was appointed Vice-Governor, no less.

There was a lot to do and it had to be done fast so… as it was said, so it was done.

Once he took the Odessa governorship, the new governor started a thorough investigation

to find and punish corrupt public workers.

He changed most of the high level positions in the Public Administration; He simplified

the process to create companies, and introduced independent controls and even liberated public

beaches that had been illegally occupied, so that once again Odessa's citizens could

enjoy them.

And hold on a second here, because Misha has a strange work methodology: it is as effective

as it is controversial.

If anything doesn't work properly and is corrupt, he dismantles it, fires all the workers and

sets it up again.

He did the same during his time in office in Georgia with the Traffic Police, and he

threatened to do it again with the Odessa Port, the largest commercial port in Ukraine,

well-known for the bribes and payments to the customs officers.

"We need to fire them all.

We have 130 new people.

They are young, new and trained, and the old ones are hopeless".

- Mikheil Saakashvili.

In the end, he only had to fire some of the customs officers so the corruption would stop.

Look:

"A number of businessmen noted that bribes at the port really had stopped in recent months,

mainly because people were scared of becoming the next victim of one of Saakashvili's

public anti-corruption tirades".

- Shaun Walker, correspondent of The Guardian.

With all these changes and with the help of Misha's contacts, Odessa started to receive

help from the USA.

And, since Misha didn't trust the Police, the first thing he did was establish an independent

police force to fight corruption.

A police force that was organized and trained by the FBI and the California Highway Police!

So, it looks like everything was going fine, right?

Then just wait, because both Saakashvili and his team soon realized it was all going to

be much harder than they anticipated...

The problem was that Odessa was not a battle field of Kiev´s supporters vs Pro-Russians…

but it was a battlefield between the rule of law and an oligarchy that has dominated

Ukraine since its independence.

THE KINGDOM OF OLIGARCHS

More and more experts have said so: Ukraine´s biggest problem is not Russia, it is the oligarchy.

Corruption in Ukraine is so embedded that we could almost say it is a sort of feudal

country where the nobility are, of course, the almighty oligarchs.

They control the companies, the political power, the administration, the media...

Almost nothing escapes their power, consolidated by money and fear.

Their level of impunity is almost absolute: police, government and judges are part of

the game.

Things have been this way since Ukraine got its independence.

But, since the Maidan Revolution, it all got much worse.

After the fall of the Pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovich and with the civil conflict

the country was going through, the new government felt incapable of trusting the army or the

police since both institutions were corrupt, disorganized and badly-equipped.

That is why he made a decision: he appointed several oligarchs as governors of some of

the most vulnerable regions in the country.

These oligarchs paid for their own private armies, and with nice incentives, the police

followed their orders as well, earning a sum for the head of every separatist.

Yes, just as I told you.

The government placed the mafia directly in charge of several governorships.

That was the case for Ihor Kolomoisky, who was appointed governor of Dnipropetrovsk,

one of the most important provinces of the country, economically speaking.

Yes, this is the Ukraine Mikheil Saakashvili was dealing with.

"There is not a single state enterprise in Ukraine that has not been usurped by one

clan or another".

Aivaras Abromavicius, former minister for economy and trade of Ukraine

As you can imagine, all these oligarchs did not welcome Misha or his reform agenda.

Once, he was even kicked out of an interview when he suggested all of these mafia members

had to be sent to prison.

Remember, the media is also the property of the oligarchy...

The thing is Misha soon started to work to fight, and end, this situation.

"I will do whatever it takes for complete victory to rid Ukraine of this filth, of this

corrupt scum, which capitalize on the blood of our soldiers […] whose only motivation

in life is to fill its own pockets, strengthen its own clan and bleed Ukraine dry".

Mikheil Saakashvili

And so he did.

Misha started to publicly report all kinds of influence peddling, favourable treatment

and privileges.

On one occasion, he came on national television and reported the details of a corrupt scheme

of the airlines owned by Kolomoisky, an oligarch who nearly obtained a monopoly on national

flights.

The public report ended the situation and took many of the people involved to court...but

as you can imagine...Mr. Kolomoisky didn´t take it well...

He promised to get revenge and here's what he said about Saakashvili, in public:

"When a dog without a muzzle bites someone, we need to punish both the dog and, more importantly,

its owner".

Ihor Kolomoisky

Now, do not think all Misha did was to report the oligarchs… not at all.

THE TRAIN CRASH

Saakashvili's reforms in Odessa didn't completely work.

Many of them were stopped and sabotaged by the government in Kiev...

This wasn't just the oligarchs...you see, corruption was so commonplace that it was

difficult to tell the difference between the mafia and the authorities...

Misha didn't think twice.

The government also became his target.

Many analysts claim that this new war against the government had a hidden agenda: to take

a leap to national politics.

Well, maybe…

And the thing is, he did it.

He started by reporting the corruption of the very Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk,

and many ministers followed... even his own friend, the president Petro Poroshenko, the

person who had placed him in Odessa.

"What difference for Ukrainians does it make who will treat them like dirt: Poroshenko

or Yanukovych; what difference who will steal from them?"

Mikheil Saakashvili

The friendship didn't last long.

As we have seen, Poroshenko appointed Misha governor in May 2015.

In just a year the battle had begun.

Finally, in November 2016, Misha resigned as governor and began his own political party:

the MNF.

And he soon gained more than 20,000 members.

Yes, the former Georgian president now wanted to lead Ukraine.

In his own words, he aspired to turn this disaster of a country into a complete European

superpower.

But you might be wondering about the response of Poroshenko and the government to this campaign...

Pay attention:

In July 2017 Poroshenko took advantage of the fact that Misha was in the USA and revoked

his Ukrainian citizenship.

All of a sudden, Mikheil Saakashvili was a stateless person.

Now, if you think that stopped him...you are very wrong.

Look, when his nationality was taken away, Misha moved to Poland.

And we have to say Misha is well-loved in Eastern Europe.

In fact, many countries offered him citizenship...but no, Misha was determined to go back to Ukraine.

And that is exactly what he did.

Despite the warnings of the government in Kiev, on September 10th, surrounded by a supportive

crowd, Misha crossed the border on foot between Poland and Ukraine.

The images of his confrontation with the border guards are… quite a sight.

By the way, what do you think he's up to now that he's back?

Despite his irregular situation...Misha is campaigning around the country..

All of that said…

there is still an unanswered question: Why Mikheil Saakashvili?

THE SAAKASHVILI REVOLUTION

In 2003, Misha lead a popular uprising against the corrupt Georgian political system of Eduard

Shevardnadze.

And, in what was known as the Rose Revolution, he even made it to the Georgian parliament.

Elections were held and as the successful revolution's leader, Saakashvili easily

beat the rest.

The reform process started.

A fierce fight against corruption and a tough policy towards Moscow that became a model

for the former soviet countries.

But we will discuss these matters as well as the dark and less glamorous side of Saakashvili

in a future video, here at VisualPolitik.

Special Effects: Crash Course Film Production #11 - Duration: 10:01.

Sometimes it's impractical -- or physically impossible -- to get the shot you want.

Maybe the scene takes place on an imaginary planet.

Maybe the film is about a magical creature.

Maybe the story requires action that would be too dangerous to film in real life.

That's when filmmakers turn to special effects and special effects makeup.

If film is an illusion, special effects are simply one more way to achieve or enhance

that illusion.

Whether it's making Superman fly, allowing Fred Astaire to dance on the ceiling,

or engineering a fight between Leonardo DiCaprio and one angry bear,

vast teams of artists and craftspeople have devoted their working lives to making the

impossible possible.

Let's feast our eyes on the world of special effects.

[Intro Music Plays]

We think of special effects as a recent development,

but it's actually been around in some form since the earliest days of cinema.

Beginning with the trick films of Georges Méliès, filmmakers have been using things

like double exposure, matte painting, tinting, and creative cuts to create magic on screen.

And they're still at it!

James Cameron can take us to the bottom of the sea – twice! – in The Abyss and Titanic.

Ridley Scott can immerse us in the neon-drenched futuristic LA of Blade Runner.

Films like Zodiac and Far from the Madding Crowd can use special effects to transport

us into the past.

And James Gunn can launch us into space with a quip and a ship full of misfits in Guardians

of the Galaxy.

But special effects can also be used in much more subtle ways.

Rather than draw attention to themselves, these effects are meant to go undetected by

the audience.

Citizen Kane, for instance, is not much less fabricated than the original Star Wars.

In fact, Orson Welles' classic film was a pioneer in visual effects,

optically printing massive exterior shots, and featuring sophisticated

old age makeup – complete with cinema's first use of contact lenses to give characters

cataracts.

More recently, dramas like 2010's The Social Network used computer-generated imagery, or

CGI, to complete city skylines and allow one actor, Armie Hammer, to portray twins.

In Stephen Soderbergh's Oscar-winning 2001 film Traffic, CGI was even used to create

tears on a character's face to enhance their emotion.

In fact, the vast majority of mainstream Hollywood movies of the 21st century include at least

one shot that has been altered by special effects technology.

Special effects can be broken down into several main types, which can be used on their own,

or combined to produce an image that meets the needs of the film.

Mechanical or Practical Effects are special effects created on set.

These include physical character creation, puppetry, animatronics, and more.

Think of the Cantina scene in the original Star Wars film, before Lucas went in and

used computers to tinker with everything and NO I'M STILL NOT OVER IT!

All those creatures were either puppets, animatronics, or human actors wearing prosthetic makeup

or costumes.

Pyrotechnics, like fires or explosions, also fall under practical effects, along with wind,

rain, mist, snow, and smoke.

In some cases, even running water constitutes a practical effect.

Unless the film is being shot in an actual location, someone has to plumb the set if

you want water to run from the faucet.

Optical Effects are created in the camera as the film is being shot using optical instruments.

A lot of these techniques require extra equipment, skills, and time, and nearly all of these

effects are now easier and faster to create using computers.

Optical printing involves a combination of the camera, a projector, and a special printer.

You begin by filming a live action scene, matting out the section you want to replace.

This is called the "garbage matte."

Then you film a shot that you'd like to use in place of the matted section.

This is called a "plate".

Finally, you combine the two pieces of film in an optical printer, and, voilà: special effect!!!

Compositing is a technique now commonly called "blue screen" or "green screen."

Originally, black screens were used.

Actors would be filmed performing in front of the screen, and then the black screen would

be replaced by a separately filmed background.

The problem was, dark shadows also appeared black.

So any shadow on the actor's clothing or face would also be replaced by the background.

Not a good look.

Color cinematography and beam-splitting cameras allowed filmmakers to expose selective colors

on two or three different negatives.

Suddenly, it was possible to use a specific color for the screen, one that would be much

easier to separate from the actors or their costumes.

The first major use blue screens in a feature film was the 1940 Technicolor spectacle The

Thief of Bagdad, which won Oscars for both Cinematography and Special Effects.

This technique continued to be refined until blue screens were the norm into the 1970s

and '80s.

Green screens have become more common since the advent of digital cinematography, because

green is less present in human skin and hair, and digital cameras are more sensitive to it.

Filmmakers use both blue and green today, depending on the cameras being used and the

costumes worn by the characters.

For instance, you might not want to shoot Superman in front of a blue screen, because

it could make him look like nothing but a floating head, hands, boots, undies, a big

red "S" and a cape.

Again, not a good look.

Optical effects can also include scale models, miniatures, and forced perspective props and sets.

These techniques allowed Peter Jackson to turn full-sized human beings into hobbits

and then have them interact with human characters on the same set.

Rotoscoping is an optical effect that involves hand-tracing the subject of a shot, frame

by frame, so that it can be animated or more meticulously matted into another shot.

Stop motion, sometimes called Claymation, involves shooting a model one still frame

at a time, moving it slightly between each shot.

The Imperial Walkers in The Empire Strikes Back were created using this technique,

as well as animated films from Wallace and Gromit

to The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Beginning in the 1970s, another weapon was added to the special effects arsenal: computer-generated

imagery or "CGI."

CGI covers everything from two-dimensional animation to the fully realized 3D world of

something like Avatar.

Basic rule of thumb is: if the effect is made on a computer, it's some sort of CGI.

The first mainstream feature film to use CGI was the original Westworld, directed by Michael

Crichton in 1973, and its sequel Futureworld in 1976.

The effects themselves were quite simple – a robot's vision of our world, a 3D rendering

of a spinning hand – but they actually represented an enormous step forward in the art and craft

of special effects.

Nine years later, the very first photorealistic CGI character appeared, in the film Young

Sherlock Holmes, in which a stained glass window shatters and the shards come back together

to form an animated, sword-wielding knight.

This moment paved the way for major advances in CGI character creation…,

from fantasy creatures like Gollum or Groot, to recognizably human figures like

Benjamin Button or the young Princess Leia at the end of Rogue One.

Other aspects of CGI were equally revolutionary.

Digital compositing made combining various images and image fields much quicker and easier.

Keyframing, meanwhile, lets animators draw a character or object once, and then set points

– or "keyframes" – to indicate how the image should move over a given amount

of time.

This saves artists from having to draw each frame of an image separately.

Now, what if your canvas as a special effects artist is actually a person?

Artists who specialize in special effects makeup are trained in the same skills as

traditional hair and makeup artists, and then develop more specialized expertise in creating

things like injuries, old age, deformities, and the creation of monsters, aliens, and

other creatures.

One of the first filmmakers to excel at this kind of special effects makeup was the actor

Lon Chaney, Sr. Nicknamed "The Man of a Thousand Faces" for his ability to transform

into other characters, he developed his own makeup techniques to

star in Silent Era horror classics like 1923's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and

Rupert Julian's adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.

In the early days, major film studios had their own "in house" effects teams.

Then during the 1960s and 70s, the studios scaled back, and those teams set up their

own special effects houses which were then hired by the studios for specific projects.

Today some of the most famous brand-names in the business include Industrial Light and

Magic, founded by George Lucas in 1975;

Digital Domain, created in 1993 by filmmaker James Cameron, along with master creature

creator Stan Winston and digital effects guru Scott Ross;

and Peter Jackson's WETA Digital, which has created the effects-heavy drama Heavenly

Creatures, most of the Lord of the Rings saga, and Avatar, among others.

Now, whether it's in-house or not, the special effects team is most often overseen by a visual

effects supervisor.

Their job is to ensure that the effects fit the vision of the director and the needs of

the film, and that the effects are completed on time and on budget.

In order to accomplish this, they assemble and work with a variety of special effects

artists, from digital matte painters and compositors, to roto artists who specialize in rotoscoping,

and lighting technical directors who work as gaffers in the digital space, making sure

the direction, color, intensity, and mood of the lighting matches the rest of the film.

Pre-vis – or pre-visualization – artists help filmmakers anticipate what an effect

will look like when the film is complete, and concept artists use illustrations to help

filmmakers design effects, creatures, and environments.

Other artists specialize in rendering, animation, weather design, enhancing explosions, combining

all the elements into a finished effect, and on and on.

Special effects is an ever-expanding field, as new technologies emerge to make innovative

effects possible.

If you've ever watched the credits on an effects-heavy film, you know they list hundreds

of names under special effects.

All those artists spend their days working to make the impossible possible, to wow us

with their imagery, and to enhance the illusion of reality that is a film.

Today we talked about the earliest days of special effects, from the silent trick films

of Georges Méliès to the subtle work in Citizen Kane.

We broke down some of the the techniques used to create special effects before computers

made it all so much faster and easier.

And we looked at a few of the biggest special effects companies and a just some of the jobs

available to special effects artists working in film today.

And next time, we'll talk about who puts all of these filmed elements together to make the actual movie.

The Surprising Truth Behind Costco's 5 Dollar Rotisserie Chicken - Duration: 2:17.

It's not uncommon for a "quick trip" to Costco to turn into an hours-long adventure, so it's

understandable if you've grabbed one of their $5 rotisserie chickens on the way out the

door for a quick and healthy dinner.

Plus, they're delicious — and it's a lot better than swinging through the drive-through,

right?

Yes and no.

Food journalist Mark Schatzker did a little investigating to find out exactly how they

make those Costco rotisserie chickens, and he shared his results with Dr. Oz in October

2016.

His findings may have you thinking twice before heading for the rotisserie case.

The first major revelation from Schatzker is that those fresh-looking chickens are actually

processed food.

Turns out, the chickens are seasoned in a warehouse long before being shipped in bulk

to Costco.

"They arrive at the supermarket so that an employee can put it on the skewer and cook

it.

So because the seasonings happening at a factory, there's ingredients in there you probably

don't expect."

Many shoppers probably think that by skipping boxed or takeout food and opting for a rotisserie

chicken, they're skipping all those unnatural, unpronounceable ingredients.

Guess again!

Schatzker went on to name ingredients such as MSG, yeast extract, sodium tripolyphosphate,

and "natural flavoring."

So if you ever find yourself unable to stop snacking on a rotisserie chicken that's on

your counter or left on the dinner table — that's by design.

Schatzker explained that this "cocktail" of ingredients used in the seasoning and the

marinades — including sugar — are the same ingredients used in other addictive food

items, such as potato chips.

But it's not all bad news, rotisserie chicken fans.

Schatzker did admit that it's still a fairly healthy option — just not as healthy as

you thought.

"As far as the processed chicken options go, I think this is a good one.

It actually looks like chicken."

"But let's not fool ourselves, this is not a pastured, organic chicken — and it's definitely

not kale."

Schatzker advised shoppers to look for short lists of ingredients, made up of items you

understand, to find a rotisserie chicken that makes the grade.

Dr. Oz suggested removing the skin to avoid some of the additives — and about 170 calories

per serving.

Schatzker, on the other hand, knows the skin is where it's at: He advised leaving the skin

on so you don't lose the taste, but serving it with healthy sides for a balanced meal.

Regardless …
