BEIJING Know BEFORE YOU GO | Little Grey Box - Duration: 10:26.

Hey you guys, Phoebe here from Little Grey Box.

Are you planning a trip to Beijing?

If you are, here are a few things you need to know before you go

Now Beijing is huge and there are so

many hotels and streets that it's not unreasonable for a taxi driver not to

have heard of where you're going. One great thing you can do is to print out

the address of your hotel in the English characters and the Chinese characters if

they're available. Make sure you have a good understanding of where you're going

Our taxi driver had no clue where our hotel was but Matt is an awesome map

reader and was able to give directions

I was worried about getting lost but everything's laid out in a huge grid and at no point were

we so lost that we couldn't figure out where we were. So feel free to wander

into those back streets and find some new unexplored areas of Beijing

and don't worry, we never had a moment where we felt unsafe

Now this is definitely one thing that we did. I plan things out

and I thought yeah we can easily walk from here to here it doesn't look too

far away but when you are on the street it is a little bit further than you

think all you need to do is make sure you're wearing comfortable shoes

schedule in a few rest breaks if you need them and to give yourself enough

time to get from one spot to the next

That's part of Chinese culture so it's absolutely fine

and as a visitor it's something that I would have just had to deal with had it have

been a problem. I built it up in my head, I thought there would be bad

chewing sounds everywhere I went and it turns out it wasn't like that at all

Yes, there were a few little slurps but you can actually really get into it!

I was terrified of the pollution

Everybody told me to brace myself that it would be difficult to see

that the pollution would be really bad and that I would have a terrible time

When we arrived... it was blue skies, clear weather and gorgeous days

and it really, really surprised me. I will say that I do get asthma and bad

allergies and the first couple of days I think I was adjusting I did get a little

bit of a cold but once that cleared I was fine. Sometimes in the afternoon

a wave of pollution did come through, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad

as I was expecting it to be

We stayed away from those main central

tourist areas in the Hutongs which is like the local streets, neighbourhoods it

was really peaceful we got to experience local life and we found that Beijing has

this kind of zen-like, relaxed, laid-back, go with the flow kind of vibe

I wasn't really sure what Beijing locals would be like.

Would people be kind of outgoing and say hello like they do in Indonesia, or would they be

a little bit more reserved. We found the locals to be absolutely lovely, they

were funny, kind and really helpful when we needed direction. One time we were

eating a pizza and the man came up to us and said 'Hey, what are you doing eating pizza

this is Beijing. There's a great dumpling shop around the corner'

Because of my bright blonde hair

my fair skin and how tall I am, I really stood out in the crowd in Beijing and

that meant that quite a few of the locals would stare. For the most part it

wasn't a problem but I do have social anxiety and I do feel uncomfortable when

people stare at me. Those times usually came about because it was large groups

of men kind of staring and leering and following me which made me feel uneasy

and one or two instances on the train where men would stand over the top of me

and it was just very intimidating and uncomfortable. To get around that I would

carry a big floppy hat with me and I would jam it on my head to cover my

hair so it would kind of hide my face and I could keep my face down and just

move around. It gave me that sense of space, control and comfort that I needed

I will also say it really did help for me to have Matt there when I was on the

train and a man was standing over the top of me and I felt really uncomfortable

Matt could kind of push in between the two of us and reclaim my personal space

In Australia, when we queue up we leave quite a bit of distance between each other

In Beijing, it is totally culturally acceptable and

totally normal to jam in on each other like sardines. Again, if you have a little bit

of a personal space or social anxiety issue like I do that kind of thing is

going to make you feel really really uncomfortable and you can feel a bit

claustrophobic all I did was turn around and just say hey could you just back it

up a little bit and each time the person behind me it was more than obliging

When we were in restaurants we would order a whole bunch of dishes just so we could try

lots of different things. What we wanted to do was wait for everything to show up

so we could eat it all at once. But the food often comes out staggered

and if you wait for everything to come the first dishes that were ready might

be cold. Just dig in once it arrives and eat everything while it is fresh and hot

Unless you speak Mandarin really well, I would

recommend screen shotting a few key phrases and having them saved on your

phone or having them printed out on a piece of paper you can keep in your day

bag while you're out exploring. You should have the English word, the Chinese

characters and the pinyin. Pinyin is the Chinese word spelt out using letters not

characters. That's gonna come in really handy when you're out exploring and you

need to find a toilet, you need to find the directions to somewhere or if you're

in a restaurant and you need to order food. I used a few phrases really

consistently and they were around ordering vegetarian food and asking what

the ingredients were in stuff so I didn't get an upset tummy. Not only is it

going to make your life easier it's also a really great way to start practicing

your language skills and try out a little bit of Mandarin. My intonation for

Mandarin is terrible but I would always get a really big smile when I would give it a try

I mentioned it a little bit earlier

but I really recommend getting away from those big tourist areas and finding

yourself a nice quiet low-key hotel somewhere in the Hutongs. This is going

to give you a more authentic, real Beijing experience in my opinion. We got

to watch all the older people sit and play games together and catch up on gossip

It was just a really nice way to experience Beijing

I really, really struggled when we

accidentally tried to catch the subway during peak hour. There were people

everywhere, it was a mad rush it was chaos. I started having a panic attack

Matt had to pull me out of there and calm me down back on the street outside

and then we had to walk the rest of the way

If you've ever caught the train anywhere, especially somewhere like

London you will figure it out in a minute. It's extremely affordable.

It's reliable and it's cheap... everything I look for

This is another thing I didn't really expect but security in Beijing is really tight and

when we went to visit some of those really big places there were lots of

security there we had to have our bags screened, people were swiped with metal

detectors. So just prepare for there to be really tight security in some of those major tourist spots.

I was hanging out to see all

those really big spots like Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden Palace

Turns out the places I enjoyed the most in Beijing were the parks. I loved just

walking around in these beautiful green spaces. You can see lots of older women

practicing line dancing and socializing. If you like you can join in they do not mind

There's just a real community feel in the parks and it feels like you get to

really experience local life. My favourite parks were the Temple of Heaven and

Jingshan Park which had the best views over Beijing. 10 out of 10, would park again

So a few times we were following Google Maps

thinking it would be 100% correct but when we got there something wasn't quite

where it was supposed to be. So I would suggest using it as a rough guide but if

you do get there and find what you were looking for just isn't there you might

need to ask a local for help

There are a few times where

our feet were saw and we were tired and we just didn't feel like dealing

with the subway. So we thought we would catch a cab back to our hotel.

A lot of the time the cab drivers would actually say no and refused to

take us. So even though your feet may be really, really tired

the subway really is your best bet.

This really weirded me out at first because I'm used to sitting down and

having a big cold glass of water with my lunch especially on those hot summer days

But at restaurants in Beijing, especially those super local dumpling houses

you will be served a warm glass of water

I believe they serve warm water for a couple of reasons. Firstly it's been

boiled so you know it's hygienic and safe, and secondly it's meant to help

with digestion when you're eating your meal. If you do like cold water you're gonna have to BYO

This is a no-brainer, every traveler worth their salt knows this but just in case you

didn't this is a great way to make sure you find a restaurant serving the best food

We would quite often not have a plan with what to eat we would just be

walking around and see this restaurant we wouldn't even know what they were

serving but it would be packed with locals and each time the food was... incredible

I did a lot of research online and everything I read said it was really easy to get there by

public transport. Matt and I tried one day but the tickets were sold out, it was

really hard, it was a little bit overwhelming and we both felt a little

bit flustered. In the end we decided that we would go with a private driver who

would take us out there, buy the ticket, wait for us and then drive us back

It was so much easier than stuffing around with public transport

If you do want to visit the Great Wall, I have a great guide on the Little Grey Box website

It is linked below and it will step you through the easiest way to get there

with a private transfer. Thank you so much for watching you guys, I hope you found

this video useful. If you don't already be sure to subscribe and say nǐmén hǎo

Reptil TV - Folge 115 – Steppenwaran Jagt in Afrika 2018 – Teil 1 - Duration: 35:02.

Welcome to a new episode of Reptil.TV

This is a field trip to Ghana, west Africa

we are 1 hour north from Agra. The street up in midland

Our topic today is Savannah monitor (Varanus exanthematicus)

I want to show you where the live. I have Bley with me

Bley is a great trapper here

so far we have always been successful and found something. please keep it that way

today we want to search the Savannah

Stefan: Ball python are also in this area?

Bley: There are not so many royal python here. More are near the mountains

S: With some luck we maybe find ball pythons

you can see the area where they live

that you can make a picture yourself

Our driver Ali is back, I send him to pick up some batteries that you can make a picture yourself

Our driver Ali is back, I send him to pick up some batteries

How many times did I ask you to stop for batteries?

I told him 5 times on the way to stop for batteries. He forgot and had to drive again

Ali: Nice to see you. good luck today.

Stefan: Our taxi driver is a cool guy

What you rarely see here is a run over chameleon

It probably wanted to cross the street and then a car came, really a pity

additional information for the batteries

I have a thermo-hygrometer with me and the batteries are empty

I already noticed it this morning. On the ride I said 5x he should not forget we need batteries

On the way are a lot of shops

We almost arrived here and I ask him about the batteries and he says he forgot them

Now I have sent him again to buy batteries. I thought that may takes 30 minutes

but he drove back and now 1,5 h later we start hunting in the bright midday sun the savannahs

here our first point of contact

We have been here last year and done this already

I think i switched the memory card or the card did not work anymore

I was back in Germany and wanted to save the files but there where no files

So what we do today I have already done last year

That's not bad, but I hope we're successful today

This are Cassava Fields

Maybe I can show you later how they harvest cassava

I saw a farming family harvesting cassava roots earlier

These big and small shrubs here are cassava

Ball pythons and Savannah monitor are here on those fields

Bley is now looking for holes where they hide and use

While I'm walking afterwards Bley I can give you some background information

We are looking for small holes where the animals are inside

and I again discover no holes

And if I find a hole Bley says its a mice or earthworm hole.

That is the reason I let Bley do the searching

OK, this is a hole from a big animal

but he is not inside

The animal just dug a little bit to find food

but it is no hole where they live and we are looking for

Some more information:

Ball pythons and Savannah monitor live on those farming fields

here on those cassava or mango fields

Mango is very popular here in West Africa

In the past, farmers simply burned the fields

that did not matter ball python or Savannah monitor, they just hid in their holes

the burned down the fields and the pythons came out of there holes afterwards and it was no problem for them

The last 5-10 years they use pesticides to get rid of the old grass and plants

but also against mice and insects

And where no mice and insects are , the reptiles will not find any food to eat and can not live

I can not say whats happens, if the go or die

That is the reason it gets difficult for the trappers to find something

The use of professional pesticides is a serious problem

You can see it on the farms when they walk around with large spray bottles on there back

they spray on everything that is no longer needed. really a serious problem

The export has and will not harm this country

I refer to that now on the farms where they breed the eggs and sell the babies

like Ball python, Savannah monitor, Nile monitor, scorpions

They terraristic world has never left a trace that there were fewer animals here

But now these pesticides are a serious problem here

second problem is poverty, especially populous countries like Nigeria

They eat for several years royal pythons and monitors as bush meet.

this reduces the animal population even further

The skins are also used and sold. That is also a problem

the main problem is nevertheless the use of pesticides

this are mango fields where I can of course not slash and burn

The mango fields are getting more and more the last years

before that cassava was everything for them. Like those fields behind us

this is the typical habitat here

When the cassava was harvested, it was burned down to sow seeds again

And now we have those nice mango trees here and i can't burn down the grass anymore

They would burn down the whole tree and it is not possible any more

The paths of this Mound-building termites are also interesting to see

here a nice hole, but Bley says it is nothing

These are traces of cricket. You can see the grainy agitated earth

Crickets are the food for the young Savannah monitor

Bley is again inspecting the hole, but he is not sure yet

to find out he has to dig it open

because we already walked a while without success we will dig it and hope we find something

Bley: Dig? Stefan: If you think then yes

While Bley is digging I will show you the blue sky

there are some clouds but it is a hot day

some clouds make some shadow

What i want to say: The Savannah monitor are only outside if it is really hot

now we have some wind and Bley says that is to much and the stay inside there holes

they are absolute sunbather and they sit in the blazing sun

and if there is some wind or shadow through the clouds the hide

So this is important for our terarristic, the like it bright and hot

I think that will be no success if you do not see where the cave runs along as you dig

Nothing, OK, next try

I'm lucky, I only have to film and Bley has to dig

Bley comes here for decades to search for animals

Last year we found a lot

If you look around those where all farming fields here

They build everywhere. That is OK, the people need houses

Bley says all the time, they spoil all the land

If everywhere are houses the ball pythons and Savannah monitor run away

Everywhere we only see houses, I am curious when we will see farmland again to continue searching

To share a little bit with my suffering, it is really hot here

We are walking for 1,5h here

Here my thermometer with 35 degree Celsius and 60% humidity and this is in the shadow

I i kept the thermometer in the shadow of my hand all the time. in the sun, it sure has 10 degrees more

but it is interesting for the climate where the Savannah monitor live

You can forget a terrarium with 27-28 degrees. They want over 30 degrees in the shadow at the day

and the humidity with 60% is also high

It has not rained today and the rainy season has not really started yet

it is rather the dry season. You see everything is dry around us

And we still have 60% humidity, that's a proud number

1995 you started looking for the reptiles

That is over 25 years. What did you do before?

Bley: I was a painter

S: Like painting building. I think you told me before. And than you decided this is a better business?

B: we worked with contractors, but if you paint on your own you can earn more.

This one we can earn more, so we stop painting

But still I'm painting. If here is no work I go painting

S: Before I asked you. how you learned to catch the lizards and the snakes.

B: We followed people doing it and watched them

S: And why are you not afraid of snakes like the other people?

B: before that we were hunters and we went in the bush and kill meet and we know how it works

then we saw the other people and thought we can do it

S: So you hunted for grasscutter

B: We got Grass Cutter or antelope

S: OK, so you changed to the reptiles

And you think the business for reptiles is better or worse or the same as before?

B: It is similar, no difference

S: After all, he is so happy as before, that's also unusual

Over there we see the mountains, are there the royal pythons or what do you find?

B: there are ball pythons and antelopes.

But Royal Pythons are down there

S: But not on the top, it is maybe already to cold

B: They can't find holes to hide inside. They come down because the squirrel dig holes

S: Why are no squirrel up there?

B: squirrel eat cassava

S: And up in the hill is no food

Behind the smoke you can see the green hills

They are called mountains or mountain area

And I learned the last year up there are no royal pythons, even if it is just a little bit higher

half an hour of walking later. certainly 2 liters of liquid lost

We are now where we wanted to be. Last year we had success in this area

over there a part of th mountains. Not as high as the other ones

Last year this was a perfect place for us. At least here are no houses

Under this mango tree we can take a short break

short look around

Even the most dedicated trapper and reptile TV filmmaker have to take a small break

Hey Bley, no, break break

what went down in the whole euphoria, last year this was the perfect spot

and this year there are no real plants here

and also the ground was dug up with a caterpillar

That is not perfect for the Savannah monitor

like i said, the cassava is missing, the food for the crickets and mice

Now I'm curious if we can find something better

Here you can see clearly again the traces of plowing

and maybe even after the egg laying time

No it is end of April

And he says again the spoil everything: You see something?

OK, the top one is definitely a cave

The entrance is nice and round

At the moment I am still moaning and now we may have luck here

Here a trick from Bley, he will remove it

Presumably, the animal is still traveling in the middle of the day

They are somewhere. They see us but we don't see them

We walk around and mark the holes with the leaves

then we come back and can see if the animal is back and in his hole

Here the thermometer in the sun. 38 degree and 60%

and still climbing, we have here some shadow

I'm sure it would go to 40-45 degree in the bright sunlight

later I will measure again in the shadow

Bley says another old hole here. It still looks nice and new to me

S: another one?

B: No, a old one

S: What do you mean by old, from last year?

B: No, this year. He had this before he found a new one

S: They leave when they become bigger? B: Yes, they leave and go to another place

S: The Crickets dig the holes first?

B: Yes, when they caught the Cricket they stay inside the hole.

If they get bigger they go and find another place and stay there

The new one is smooth, the old hole not

S: This is also interesting for us terraristic people

Savannah monitor don't dig there own holes

They are clever, they search cricket holes and eat them

Then they use that hole until they are to big

they also can make to hole a little bit bigger by walking in and out

but they don't dig themselves a hole

S: Later they take the hole from a squirrel or something?

B: They eat the cricket in the hole and also search for food outside

S: But if they get bigger the search for a new hole? They don't dig a hole themselves?

B: No the don't dig the hole. If they get bigger they can dig a little bit

S: OK, so they can dig a little bit the hole

But later if they become more bigger, they can't use cricket hole all there live

B: If they become bigger the use Mouse hole

S: What is the difference between mouse and squirrel?

B: Squirrel is bigger then mouse

S: But squirrel is not grass cutter?

B: No it is something else

S: OK, it's the squirrel

I thought so, but I could not imagine that any squirrel are around here

A hole from a one year old, but he is not inside

Good to hear that they are here!

After I heard 1,5h they spoiled all it is nice to hear they are here. The new word i like to hear

B: Those are ants. They eat the ants also inside there

S: So you think it will be inside there?

He cleaned the entrance. So we wait or we dig?

B: We have to dig this one I think

S: No we dig a little bit and we remember those 39 degrees

Look here people, here you can see him look outside

Let's place the thermometer there

30 min ago I talked about the disappointment of the fields and the cassava

And now he comes out on his own. Really in love with the camera this guy

This was part one of our Africa Savannah monitor hunting

This is a long episode so we divided it in part one and two

Important for me to show you the climate and temperature and humidity

that is the exciting thing to so how the Savannah monitor live there

remember, this is also ball python and African rock python area

You can also take away tips for those

the small things make the difference in this episode

The temperature measurements are even higher then I felt it

Just to show you, this is a 1,5 year old Savannah monitor

They grow really fast and get big

To show you some colors, this is a axanthic male who is missing some colors.

Part 2 will be live on the 1st of next month

stay true and check the Savannah monitor and my balls

welcome to a new episode, the dog is barking in the background...

OK, third try, the dog is being tamed

That was part one of our Africa episode

In the background the camera crashed, let's do it again?

Custom Evolve Skateboards - Hyrdo Dipping and Spray Painting - Duration: 4:18.

It literally looks like it's meant to be made like this from the start

can't fault it whatsoever.

Gday guys welcome to another episode of evolve

weekly today we have a special episode all about hydro dipping and spray

painting an Evolve board.

So it hydro dipping is another way to give your board a unique finish it's a process

of dipping a product into water but that has a design floating on the surface

essentially. It can only be done to non-porous items so unfortunately the

bamboo decks cannot be done but the battery case and truck parts are

completely fine to do with the electrics and batteries removed. The carbon decks

again completely fine to do with the battery and electrics removed and also

the grip tape needs to be taken off so as you can see here this battery case

has been hydro dipped to do it had remove all electrics from it so motor

controller, battery, the switch and the charging port all had to come out. And the

battery case had to be cleaned for the dipping to be done. So ive seen two other

boards that come to mind they've been hydro dipped so one was a skull and one was

a camo dip haven't seen too many others around but you know it does give your

board a unique finish really unique coating and often it creates a one

off board for you. Another way to give you a carbon board unique look would be a

complete spray paint job, haven't seen one done yet but or it can be pretty

cool to see

Hi I'm Josh from Unique Skin Coatings and today we're spray painting and hydro

dipping some Evolve boards.

Today we're dipping the trucks and a battery case of

a bamboo GT and spray painting the deck of a carbon GT

So the first step is disassembling the board. We have to make sure all nuts

bolts bearings bushes all the electrics are out or ready for sanding. So the

second step is sanding we need to make sure we rough these parts up in order

for the primer and the paint stick.

So the next step is applying the primer the

primer fills any scratches leftover from sanding and gives the paint a good surface

to stick to

Now that we've got the primer on the next step is to apply the color.

So for this project we're going to apply three to four coats of color, letting it dry

for ten to fifteen minutes again between each coat

So the next step is to apply the graphics

Once the graphics are applied we seal it up with clear coat and we're all done

Whoa whoa well it's pretty psychedelic isn't it.

Oh look at that

That's so cool

You cant even fault it. It looks absolutely awesome.

Green and gold - Aussie. This is good.

Yeah nice. Very very cool.

Nice and shiny. Gloss, yeah it looks nice.

Thanks for watching guys, I hope you enjoyed the video and hopefully it's

giving you a bit of inspiration to customize your evolve board. Remember if

you've got any cool designs we'd love to see them so please send them in to us

until next time catch you later

Trump's new tariffs rattle close U.S. allies - Duration: 2:47.

The Trump administration continues to have up and down relations with its biggest trading

partner, China, but now it's taken things one major step further,... slapping duties

even on America's closest allies.

The U.S. maybe on the brink of a full-blown trade war with the world.

Won Jung-hwan has the latest.

It looks like the U.S. will soon have a trade war on its hands.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross says a 25-pecent tariff on steel imports and a ten-percent

tariff on aluminum will be imposed on the EU, Canada and Mexico starting at midnight,

Friday, Eastern Standard Time.

Mexico condemned the move immediately, vowing to retaliate with tariffs on 3 billion U.S.

dollars worth of U.S. imports,… including agricultural goods such as corn.

But Ross is saying he's not too worried.

" Well even if the EU does retaliate and even if some others do, it still will remain unlikely

to be as much as one percent on our economy."

Canada and several European countries have responded angrily.

The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Junker, called the U.S. move unjustified

and said the EU had no choice but to hit back with tariffs on three-point-three billion

dollars' worth of U.S. goods and file a case at the World Trade Organization.

An expert says the rationale for the tarrifs is based on issues in North America.

"Most direct reason for this particular increase in tariffs on Canada, Mexico and EU seems

to be NAFTA negotiation is not going in the direction United States wanted,... and in

addition, America has mid-term election coming up in November and the Republicans seems to

be falling behind so policy towards protectionism maybe design to appeal to people who voted

for Trump in the past."

The tariff announcement has sent a chill through financial markets around the world.

But the expert says South Korea's economy won't be affected much.

"As long as the trade war is limited to steel and aluminum retaliation, for just two industries,..

Korea should be able to weather this particular phase of the trade war without too much problem."

Europe, along with Canada and Mexico, had been granted a temporary waiver back in March.

But Thursday's decision raises concerns that President Trump could further expand the tariffs

to other industries and other allies, including South Korea.

Won Jung-hwan, Arirang News.

Setting Boundaries at Work - Productivity Hacks - Duration: 10:49.

Are you a people pleaser?

You know, so many of us, we want to make

other people happy,

but it can really be at

the expense of our

own boundaries,

and just as importantly,

it can be at the expense of

our productivity.

So, that's what productivity

problem number three is all

about,

is poor boundaries

or setting boundaries at work.

I mean, the question is why

do these things happen?

What are the problems of boundaries?

What are all of the issues related to boundaries?

And then ultimately what can

we do about them?

This is my series on the six

major productivity problems.

I'm Nicole Wipp

and this is Healthy Success 101

where we talk about smart success

without overwhelming burnout .

OK, So setting

boundaries at work,

and having the right type of boundaries.

What are the problems that are associated

with that?

This is a huge topic.

I have so many of them, so let's get started.

The first one is sort of what I reference

at the very beginning of this video,

which is are you a people pleaser?

I mean are you going along

with what everybody wants,

to get along with everybody?

And, that sometimes isn't really

a smart idea, but sometimes

especially when it's impacting your productivity

that you're just like, "Oh well,

I'll just do it the way everybody else wants to do

it because I don't want to get into an

argument about it.

I don't want to deal with it

and I just want to cope with, that what

your productivity forward,

going along to get along

is a massive productivity problem

for you.

And, along

with that it's sort of being this

person that doesn't want to be seen,

you want to be seen as the bad guy

or the bad girl.

Right? You don't want to be seen as the

trouble maker.

And, so,

this boundary issue

of how you feel

that other people are seeing you

and not wanting to make waves

is really something that causes

so many productivity problems

because we just don't have the right boundaries up

to be able to know when to say when

and to get people to leave

us alone so we can get the things done that we

want to do.

You know, in an earlier video I talked about

the workplace versus the social club,

and one of the reasons that

happens is,

there's always a co-worker

that wants to talk.

There's always the one that loves

to yap at you and you're sitting there thinking

to yourself,

"Oh my gosh I just want to get my things

done," right?

And yet,

you're not saying to them,

"Hey you know what I'd love

to talk to you more,

but I really need to get this done.

Do you mind if we pick this up

later," I mean that's a very gracious

way of moving

something forward,

getting back to getting things done,

and cutting somebody off in a way

that shouldn't be offensive to them

in the process.

Another sort of

aspect to that is being

person being perceived as

willing to do things.

So a big part of this can happen

sometimes when other people

want to encroach

and sort of have you do things

that you don't

have as part of your day.

You've maybe mapped out your productivity for the

day and/or

if your boss is asking you to

take on additional tasks

that are really not going to move

the needle forward and you don't see how.

So, in that respect

are you being perceived as unwilling

to do things? Or is it something

that truly impacts your productivity?

That is something that's worthy of a conversation

if it's actually happening to you

because it also plays into this notion

that you might be a bad team player.

It may not be that you're a bad team player.

You need to be able to articulate that it

isn't your best team player

it's that you need

to be able to focus on this

thing or these things because that

was the set forth agenda.

One of the biggest tools

that I have given my team,

enabling them to be able to push

back on me when I'm encroaching

on their boundaries, so,

if you're a business leader,

take this to her right now... I allow for them to say to me,

"Wait a minute,

you said that this is

what you wanted to do today.

Now you're asking me to

get this other thing done.

Which is more important

because I can't do both

today?" And so

that permission,

that permission

and that ability for them to push back

and say to me,

"Hey you're violating my boundaries because

of something that you said you wanted to get done,"

And then they can say that to me

anybody else has to say about it, and if it's not helping you move

and then I can make a decision.

Really, what is my agenda that day?

Do I really want them to disrupt

what they were trying to get done,

what I specified I needed to be done? Or what is part of our already

in place system or process to get done?

Or, do I want them to take on this new thing?

And nine times out of 10,

the reality of the matter is is that they don't need

to do this new thing.

But the one time at a time they do.

And so this is a way that

we can have a healthy conversation about

boundaries without

it becoming a conflict incompetent.

You know, the fear of being seen

as incompetent like,

"oh this person can't just get anything

boundaries.

And so if one of your fears is that

you know people are just going to think that you are

incompetent if you don't always say

yes and always agree to

situation. Of course, though, we never want to be seen as

everything, then there

really needs to be

a manner in which you

have way of saying, "Hey I can not

do that, this is all the things that are on my

plate today,

what's most important here?" Just like I said

this last thing. I mean,

you need to have a process

by which you have a healthy conversation

because if you have a fear of being seen

as incompetent,

that's not enabling you to put boundaries

around your productivity.

This is going to continue to be a problem for

you and you're never going

to get all the things done that you need to get done.

Of course,

we have, and especially in

the United States,

we have this idea

that people need to always be available.

I mean this is something that we see in

the news all the time.

It's like one of these customer service things

you know people are emailing people at

10 o'clock,

at midnight

and expecting an answer.

And when you do

not set up boundaries

to tell people,

"I will not be available during those

times and you will not expect to

get any answer to me from me during those

times," then yeah,

that's exactly what's going to happen.

One of the things that I have really

discovered,

and I encourage you to

consider really seriously

if this is something that's happening to you,

is other

people can be more productive

and you can be more productive by

setting time boundaries

around, and not being always available

because by really making it clear,

this is the time in which I'm

available to you to get things done,

then you're

forcing them to focus in,

and you're forcing yourself

to focus in.

And so you want to

be able to

get that focus in by

not being always available.

Being always available is actually

a productivity inhibitor.

It is not good

for you and for other people.

And that really goes along

with being

in alignment with other people's agendas

and not your own.

I talked about this in one of the earlier

videos I think in the wrong work video.

And the idea is

that you have to set your

agenda

or you're going to be on somebody

else's.

I have a young son

and one of the things that my husband

always says to going to control you,"

him is, "Listen Merick, if you don't control yourself somebody else is

Now, this is something that we say to our

child,

but it's also the truth

for us as adults if we

don't control our own agendas.

Somebody is going to control it for us.

Do you want other people controlling your agenda,

or do you want to be the one controlling it?

That's why boundaries are so important

and because

in alignment with that it's important

that you set the agenda,

you control yourself so that

you can control your productivity.

Otherwise,

other people's agendas are going to come in

and are going to disrupt your day.

It's absolutely essential to be setting those boundaries

in order to maintain productivity.

And then finally FOMO right.

Fear of missing out.

A lot of us

really are bad about setting

boundaries because

we have a fear of missing out.

Like, "Oh I'm going to say yes because if

I don't go to that thing,

if I don't say yes to that opportunity,

if I don't get it on

that project I'm going

to miss out on Blankety

blank blank blank," I mean you can fill in the

blank.

And that may be true in some

instances and this is where we have to really

use our judgment

and sit down and think it through.

What are the opportunities

that we need to be chasing

and what are the opportunities

that aren't real opportunities?

I literally just yesterday

had another entrepreneur make

a comment that

she was struggling

with her time problems because

mostly it was all fear of missing out.

She was trying to do all the things,

instead of focusing on the things that were actually

moving the needle.

And when we sat down

and we dissected OK,

out of these 10 things that are you're

doing right now,

what are the three that are actually

making a difference to your

life and your business?

A massive clarity came over her

and she was able to say,

"OK, That's right.

I was literally in fall mall.

And I can get rid of seven

things that I really might want to

do.

But I don't need to be doing,"

And so when it comes to productivity problems,

those are all of the things related

to boundaries that really

really suck up our time

and take away our ability

to be productive,

to be effective,

to make an impact,

and to put money back into our own pockets.

Let's go on to the next video.

done," is one of the reasons why people do not set up good

REGISTER YOUR HIGH SCHOOL VOTERS NOW! - Duration: 4:54.

- [Michael] So what do you have Jason doing right now?

- I have him making calls.

Activists and Party Leaders in some of the states

that Let America Vote is involved in.

Just making sure that they know what we're up to

and how we're trying to be helpful in 2018.

- Right now I'm just trying to untangle these (laughs).

The hardest part of making phone calls.

- [Zach] Oh wait, these are your headphones aren't they?

- I don't know, are they tangled?

- [Zach] Yeah.

- I think these are yours. - What do we got here?

- I don't know. - Those seem less tangled,

I'll use these, thanks.

Oh now I just tangled them with the other ones.

How did I do that?

There we go.

- If everybody sees all this momentum

from young people around the country,

all this enthusiasm, this excitement,

this passion,

one of the big things that people ask,

they say, "Okay, but are they gonna vote?

Are they gonna actually show up?"

Show up is the big question.

So at Let America Vote we decided,

you know what, let's be a part of the solution here.

In partnership with National School Walk Out,

we're making sure that young people are registered.

And here's how we're doin' it.

It's called Cap, Gown, Vote.

We are giving high schools

around the country an opportunity,

high schoolers, in fact, around the country,

an opportunity to compete against other schools.

This is the best kind of competition.

Schools are competing against each other

to see how many of their graduating students

can actually be registered to vote by graduation.

The thing is, this isn't just like

students who are Democrats

or students who are Republicans,

we want every single high school student

to graduate registered to vote in the entire country.

All the studies show that the earlier you start voting,

the more it becomes a habit,

and the more likely you are to continue voting

over the course of your life.

That's how you keep a Democracy really healthy and vibrant.

("Vibe with Me" by Joakim Karud)

- The students out there who have participated

in these walk outs, who have done these marches,

they're doing the right thing.

They're standing up

and they're letting their voice be heard.

But there's a next step,

and that next step is engaging in the political process.

We're right in the middle now

of a collaboration that we're doing

with National School Walk Out.

There's no doubt that young people

are gonna be incredibly important

to this election.

- [Michael] And how did Jason do in high school geometry?

- He is absolutely the epitome of what I personally think

is the Iowa Democratic party.

It is ever changing, it's ever evolving,

and it proves you do not need to have an elected position

to make a difference or to take a stand

and say what you mean and mean what you say.

("My Everything" by DJ Quads)

- Yeah that was a really cool event

because I just met a bunch of people

who that was the first ever political event

they've ever been to.

I also randomly,

my Geometry teacher from high school walked up,

because I'm always talking about

how you gotta show your math

and the way that I learned that

is I learned that you can get a half point

if you showed your math even if your answer was wrong.

You get a little half point

for the misadventure you traveled.

I'm always thinking of that guy (laughs)

so it was kinda crazy for me, like surreal,

I'm at a political event and he showed up.

His wife was there and she asked,

she said, "Was he a good geometry student?"

And he was like, "He didn't fail."

And he said, "He was a good debater,

he argued about a lot of his scores" (laughs).

I get the opportunity to see an incredible amount

of activism as I get around the country.

I've been in 40 states now since Trump took office,

I meet these people who inspire me,

and if you wanna be inspired by it too, come along.

Thank you for watching.

I'd like you to first though, take a piece of paper and a pen and list one to ten.

There'll be ten different email addresses in this video and then after I'll show you

the answers.

Now before we start let's just go through some vocabulary very quickly, and some pronunciation

of how we say these things.

So we have dot, at, dash, underscore.

So if you're already ready with your paper and pen, let's begin with the first one.

[reads email addresses for IELTS listening practice]

So that's it for this video, guys.

I hope you did well.
