Welcome to the Endnotes, where I put all the fun facts I can't fit into the main videos!

Today, some extra bits of information from my video about Chauvinism — and if you haven't

seen that yet, click on the card.

As we saw there the word chauvinism referred originally to excessive French patriotism.

Well, the parallel word jingoism referred originally to excessive English patriotism.

It first appears in the late 19th century and comes from the word jingo, as in by jingo.

Jingo seems to have been originally a nonsense word from the 17th century, used by magicians

in the phrase hey jingo to call for something to reappear, the opposite of hey presto used

when an object disappears.

But the word was soon adopted as a minced oath or taboo deformation of the word Jesus,

with by jingo being used to translate French Par Dieu "by God".

By Jingo became a common English interjection, and was later used in a music-hall song calling

for an aggressive military stance against Russia in the 1870s during the Russio-Turkish

war.

The chorus goes "We don't want to fight but by Jingo if we do, / We've got the ships,

we've got the men, we've got the money too, / We've fought the Bear before, and while

we're Britons true, / The Russians shall not have Constantinople."

Soon after the word jingo and jingoism were used to refer derisively to blustering patriots

and chauvinists calling for war.

Sewing Tutorial - Zipper pocket Tutorial - Duration: 6:17.

Hey guys, welcome back for another tutorial today. I'm going to be showing you an zipper installation

This is great for side pockets

Lining in your purses. You can really just put pockets everywhere. So if you're interested then stick around

Okay. So for this project you're going to need an erasable pen, maybe some double-sided tape and some sharp scissors

When you're working with your fabric, you're going to be using your main fabric on the bottom and then you will put your lining fabric

Right sides down. So I have some blue fabric

It has no right or wrong side

So I can't really show you in this instance

But just remember that if you do have a printed fabric that have the right sides facing down

then you're gonna of course pick your zipper and

I'm using an 8 inch zipper. So I'm going to draw an 8 inch line

About it actually an 8 and 1/2 inch line down

Where I want my zipper to be and then I'm going to draw another 8 inch line beside that

That is about 3/8 of an inch away

If you have larger teeth zipper, then you're gonna make this rectangle a little bit wider

but for a regular nylon zipper

this is a perfect measurement and then we'll draw two little triangles on the sides just like this and then we will connect the

tips of those triangles with one line and the

Triangle and this line are just guides. You will not sew on those. You will just sew all around the rectangle

So take that to your sewing machine

Do a nice tight stitch and then when you get to your corners

You're going to lift your presser foot pivot your fabric and then continue on

So do that for all four sides and then you can take it out of her sewing machine

So after that, then you're going to go get your sharp scissors or your rotary cutter

Whatever you feel comfortable using I just like to slice down that line

First with my rotary cutter and then I'll take my scissors and cut the little triangle parts

You're gonna get really close to those stitches as close as you can get but try not to actually snip the stitches of

course

So after you're done that you're going to take your lining fabric and you're going to push that through the opening

This is going to be a little bit tricky and

Will take some finessing

But eventually it will

all iron out nicely I

Did make this zipper a little too close to the side

So the ones I didn't come out as nicely as I would like

So when you do make this yourself then make sure you have a good amount of space on either side of your zipper

So now I'm just going to iron and make sure those edges are nice and crisp

And then we can start the actual zipper installation

So for this I will use some double-sided tape

This is literally the only time I ever use double-sided tape, you could pin it

maybe even put a dab of

You know a glue stick to help you

But the double side tape is just super easy. So I

Will put some of that on the back and then I will place my zipper and then I don't have to worry about it shifting

Especially because you want those teeth to be perfectly centered in that rectangle

Otherwise, it won't look as good

So I'm just putting on my double sided tape and then I peel off the little paper

And then I'll flip it back over and then place my zipper

underneath

So I'm just going to

Bring the zipper down a little bit and then I'll push the teeth

at the end closer together

So it's all nice and even and then after that you're going to sew all the way around this box

I use a

longer stitch just so it gives it a nice top stitch if you want to use matching thread you can or you can use

Contrasting thread to make it a little bit more visually appealing

so, of course just like we did last time make sure you lift your presser foot and pivot your fabric to make sure you have

a nice crisp

line of stitching

especially because this will be visible on the outside of your bag if that's where you're putting it and

then after that

You can make this all in one if you wanted to or you can take another

Piece of fabric the same size as this square and then just sew it onto the back to make the pocket

from your zipper, but if not, you can take the bottom of your lining and fold it up and

Then sew along three sides. So if you're gonna do that then make this lining a lot longer than I did and

then you're just going to lift the lining away from your main fabric and then just sew along the

three sides of your pocket and don't worry about the raw edges because that'll be hidden inside of your bag and

Then that's it. You open up your zipper and then you have a perfect little pocket

everyone happy Friday I'm so excited it's almost the weekend we are headed

off to a friend with a friend I should say we are going to go bowling every day

during the week certain bowling alleys have free bowling so that is what we are

going to do today are you guys excited yeah everybody's kind of tired we stayed

up really late last night and woke up at a decent hour today so we are going to

go bowling went to my peel box and I have some goodies too gel nail polish I

can't wait to use this we're gonna have a spa bag so I just realized we're a

little bit early but that's okay I'm always early I'd rather be early and on

time then late in flustered so anyways so yeah we had a pretty good week great

girls yeah Alison finished her schooling what did you what did you think of

calculus yeah so Alison is actually going into seventh grade but she just

finished seventh eighth and ninth grade math so she is but you're going into 9th

grade honors we just learned right so now when she goes into seventh grade she

will actually be going into ninth grade honors math so that's pretty cool so

she'll have a lot of learning to do this year but she can do it I know she can

she's good at it so and then also the girls are going to Grandma's house this

weekend yay they're gonna go to Grandma's house

this weekend and we're gonna hang out Jason and I and then on Sunday we're

going to the beach so I'm very excited about that of course we will vlog for

you are you excited to go to Grandma's you don't know and then tomorrow Allison

has a Girl Scout meeting because she this this year or this past year she

earned the bronze award and now she's going for the silver award so tomorrow

they have to go in and do a meeting about the bronze or the silver award and

ideas and what to do and how to do it of that so we're gonna go to that

meeting tomorrow morning but first we need to go get her uniform

because she's required to wear a white t-shirt tan pants we have pants but we

need to get the shirt so after we go bowling we are going to do that

have a good time you did really good yeah both of you scored real high huh

alright let's go shopping

finding bathing suits for Allison's age is so hard because some of them are sexy

so I'm over my two old grannyish right now these are cute these are yours age

group it's too hard isn't it you want a whole piece to piece to piece

Gryffindor shirt she was so excited wasn't she

shopping trip Ali got three shirts a bathing suit

ready to go home yes she has her complete Halloween costume ready you

let's go do let's go home do a grocery grocery

so it is pouring down rain so we decided to stop because I cannot see out my

window right now it's like not too bad but it was really really bad western

Italian so yeah and the Lightning was horrible but we stopped we're about

halfway home and we decided to stop and let me show you the world's largest

alligator there is the world's largest alligator let me put this on real quick

and that's so cool there it is made it home and Alison has

her clothes out so we're gonna show you real quick I'm not gonna get into great

detail because we are going to do a school haul as well but this is for her

Girl Scouts she has to have a white polo shirt we could not find any and the

girls so we just went ahead and bought this one it's super cute

with the buttons so that is what we got her and she got some Harry Potter socks

it's super cute she got this she got this really like this one got these long

black socks for her Halloween costumes she got this super cute bathing suit

this is like a high top bottoms and it's really cute because it has like picked

besides super cute but it's enough to where it covers her belly mostly and

then here's the cute little top that she got so you can see that and then the

backside just has like a crisscross and a tie super cute I love it I think it's

adorable very cute I'm going to show you so what

I have is I have tablet for the little girls and I have this ice cream and on

this tray I have food and you can take the tray off and then you can flip on um

the chair and then you can um party in here you have the girls and a blanket

right there and I have this to cover up the dollhouse a blanket and then this is

a cop and a baby pacifier what the pacifier does and it lights up you can

put it in the cup put it right there and then you can put this over

I'll show you you can look this up I think you can see them having a party

very cool let's don't create it that's my crazy good job
