Hello everyone, thank you for joining me. Today I'll be showing you how to crochet

this bee, which is my logo.

Now for the bee, you'll need a bright yellow, white and black cotton or wool. I

use four ply crochet cotton. I use white sewing thread to stitch it together and

I use black sewing thread for the markings on the wings, I use a sewing

needle and I use a darning needle to weave in my ends. I'll be using

embroidery cotton to put on the markings on the eyes, and I use a crochet hook and

scissors. There are links to the items you'll need in the description below. Now

we'll start with the head and our bright yellow. We start with a magic loop, and

work three chain, and then we work fourteen double crochet into the circle,

and then we pull our circle tight, and

slip stitch into the third chain. For row two we start with three chain and work a

double crochet into the same place as the chain, and now we work two double

crochet into each stitch around.

So I'll finish this row and then I'll be back. At the end of the row we slip

stitch into the third chain and fasten off, and that's the head finished. Now

we're going to do the first black stripe. I join my black cotton, just anywhere I

like to join it just behind the join, and I start with three chain, and then I work

a double crochet into the same stitch as the chain. Now I work one double crochet

into each of the next two stitches, and

now three treble into the following stitch,

and one double crochet into each of the next two stitches, and then two double

crochet into the next stitch,

and that's the first row done. For row two we start with three chain, and we work one

double crochet into the same place as the chain. Now we work one double crochet

into each of the next three stitches,

now one treble into each of the next three stitches,

one double crochet into each of the next three,

and two double crochet into the last stitch,

and then we fasten off.

Next we join our yellow in again, into the first stitch, and start with three

chain. We work one double crochet into the same stitch as the chain, and

then we work one double crochet into each stitch until the last stitch.

Into the last stitch we work two double crochet.

For row four we start with three chain, and turn and we work a double crochet

into the same stitch as the chain, and now we work one double crochet into each

stitch to the last stitch.

Into the last stitch we work two double crochet and we fasten off.

Now we join our black again into the first stitch,

and we start with three chain, and then we work one double crochet into each

stitch across.

For row six we start with three chain, and we work a decrease double crochet

into the first two stitches,

and then we work one double crochet into each stitch to the last two,

and then we work a decrease double crochet into the two stitches and fasten

off.

Now we join our yellow into the first stitch,

and start with three chain, now we work a decrease double crochet into the first

two stitches, and then a decrease double crochet into the next two stitches.

Now we'll work one double crochet into each stitch until we have four stitches

left,

and then we work a decrease double crochet into the first two and then a

decrease double crochet into the last two stitches,

and our work is starting to slope in. For row eight we start with three chain, and

turn, and we work two decrease double crochet over the first four stitches,

and then two decrease double crochet over the last four stitches,

and then fasten off our yellow.

And we'll join our black again into the first stitch,

and start with two chain, and then work a half double crochet into the same stitch,

a double crochet into the next stitch, two treble into the following stitch, a

double crochet into the next, and a half double crochet into the last stitch, and

fasten off.

And that's the bee's body, I'll weave in my ends and then I'll be back and we'll

neaten the edges by stitching, doing a row of crochet around. To neaten my edges

I start just behind the head in the black, join the black in, and start with

one chain, and work a single crochet in the same place, and one single crochet

into each stitch across the black section. When I get to the last stitch on

the black I join in my yellow,

and then I continue with yellow crocheting over the black.

On the last stitch of the yellow I bring my black up, and then start using the

black and crochet the yellow in behind.

And then I go back to my yellow on the

last stitch of the black to start with the yellow,

and then we use our black again.

Near the middle of the back we do three chain, slip stitch into the

second stitch from the hook, single crochet into the following stitch, and

then a half double crochet into the third stitch, and then continue with our

single crochet around, that's just for the stinger of the bee, and then we

just continue round as before. When I get to here finish the body I cut the

black off and just continue around the head with the yellow and join into the

body. So I'll continue around and I'll be back and we'll do the wings. For the wing

we start with eighteen chain,

and then we work two double crochet in the fourth chain from the hook, and then

one double crochet into each chain until we get to the last chain.

Into the last chain we work three double crochet,

and now we work one double crochet into the back of the chain all the way up to

the end, so this loop here, and there I'll be crocheting in my end,

and then slip stitch into the top chain just up the end here. For row two we

start with two chain, and then work one half double crochet in the same place.

Now we work two half double crochet into each of the next three stitches,

now one double crochet into each of the next two stitches, and one treble into

each of the next seven stitches.

Now one double crochet into each of the next two stitches, and two half double

crochet into each of the next six stitches.

Next we work one double crochet into each of the next two stitches, and one

treble into each of the next seven stitches.

Now one double crochet into each of the next two stitches, and you should have

two stitches left, so you work two half double crochet into each of these, if you

don't have two stitches left, just work half double crochet into whatever stitches

you do have left, and then we slip stitch in the second chain, and fasten

off. That's our wing done, we'll need two wings. For the eyes we start with

a magic circle, and work one chain, and then work ten single crochet into the circle.

We pull the circle tight, and then slip stitch into the chain, and fasten off. We

need two eyes.

Next I'll do the antennae. I use black, now I leave quite a tail to attach it to

the head, and I work nine chain,

and then work a half double crochet in the second chain from the hook,

and fasten off.

And I've just got a little tiny circle there. I'll just attach it in

there. Now I'll work another wing, eye, and antenna, and finish off my endings, and

I'll be back to show you how to put them together. Now here's all the pieces for

the bee. If you'd like you could stitch markings onto your wings. That's what it

looks like, it's just like a leaf, the markings for a leaf. Now firstly I'm

going to stitch my eyes on, just in there, and then i'll embroider the black on, and

I'll also put the markings onto my wings and then I'll be back.

Now there's the wings done, and the eyes on. Next I'll stitch over the center

circle with black and stitch a mouth on, and I'll be back. Now we just stitch one

antenna on about there, and the other about there. For the wings we put one

just in behind, and the other goes on top, just like that. So I'll stitch those on

and I'll be back to show you the finished bee. There's the bee finished. If you liked

[JI] Hello, welcome.

So it's Wednesday night.

Monday and Tuesday were kind of eh.... whatever.

Monday night we met with out doula.

We did pick one.

We signed the contract with her and

we decided to pick the doula that had more experience.

We really liked her a lot.

I think I mentioned in the vlog recently.

Umm... but...

yeah... really we had a great chat with her.

She gave us a lot of different great ideas

and we talked about different ways to prepare for the birth, the birth plan.

She actually taught us some really funny tricks

and stuff like that, but I'll probably mention that later.

So anyways, yeah it was cool meeting with her.

Then yesterday, I was just like exhausted.

This week we have... I think I mentioned

about the interpreter situation about our birth.

If I haven't, let me know down in the comments and I can explain.

But anyways, um...

we had one potential interpreter for our birth on our list,

she happens to live close by.

So she walked over and I have never met her before.

Jenna knows her because they work together but I don't know her.

So we met with her and she's really sweet.

She's a great person. Love her.

Then... yeah pretty much...

we wrote all the thank you cards for the baby shower.

Oh my gosh, I think we had like 31 cards

because I forgot... well

we had postponed writing the cards for the second shower

and then we had the third one. So I sent all those out.

Now I'm just chilling and resting today.

I've had a bit of a hard day and Jenna's watching hockey.

Yep, just watching the game.

Buffalo is playing Columbus. So just chilling out.

[JI] Claire of course is on whatever, sleeping.

Anyways...

Eeeh...

uh this evening, finally made it.

I'm feeling a little bit more pain now in this pregnancy.

Not anything too major, but I'm ready for tomorrow to see the OB.

We're not actually seeing our OB. We're seeing a nurse practitioner.

Because our OB is out, so we'll see what's gonna happen there.

Umm... yeah and should be fun.

Saturday we're going to the corn maze, which I can't wait.

Jenna's home and she is tired.

She never pays attention to me.

Never... see.

Yep, I try to get her attention and she just ignores me.

See? What am I suppose to do with this?

She ignores me... all day.

Peanut, what am I suppose to do?

I'm informing everyone you ignore me.

[JE] Why?

I do that all the time and you're like whatever.

Something stinks and I think it's her.

and she does the same thing.

So right now going to the OB appointment.

It's not with our doctor. It's with the nurse.

Better get in, cause I have 3 minutes till the appointment.

Ugh, I have to go the bathroom!

OB is done.

I'll explain later but like I said...

we didn't see the actual OB so I don't know if I believe what they said.

Nothing bad... just eh.

Oh anyways, I'm not gonna explain now, I'm gonna go into JoAnn's.

Buy a few things for... things. So come with me!

Right now, just bought some of these.

They're from the Dollar Store so woot!

Anyways, it was funny because the woman...

well I know it's the Dollar Store, but sometimes

they're not actual $1.

You know sometimes it's like $2 or $3.

So I came in and said, how much are these?

She like "they're a $1!"

I was like "I didn't know. Sometimes they're not a $1."

Anyways, right now we have all of this.

So that we're gonna try and separate.

Put some in the drawer down here.

Some of it's going to go into the bins

and eventually I'm probably going to take the top....

I don't know, maybe the first shelf area, take that down.

Maybe the second one I'm not sure and put in rods.

Glue them, screw them, I don't know which.

But we're going to put in rods and then hang the clothes on there.

Maybe add a second bookshelf over here and get rid of the dresser.

So right now just going through a lot of stuff!

Socks! Probably have too many.

Suppose to go to the corn maze but it's raining

so I think we're still gonna go. Probably.

We'll just bring an umbrella I guess. I don't know.

But I just recently went through and sorted the diapers that we have.

Put all of those in there.

So now what I'm doing is a project!

Yes, so right now umm....

Let's see... yes this!

So hopefully it works. I don't know. We'll see.

Woo hoo, done!

So... now I'm just gonna let this cool down

and then hopefully it stays.

Let's hope so.

Hello, so right now we're on our way home.

It's a little bit dark outside and rainy.

It's alright. We're gonna get home,

eat some donuts, have some cider, and snuggle in a blanket. I don't know.

Good morning! Happy Sunday!

It's like... 11:16a. Yeah, I know.

I actually woke up a few times,

but I woke up at 7, fed the cats and then

I went back to sleep until 10:30a. So I guess I really needed the sleep.

I don't know, so I started the day late.

But I have a lot of cleaning, I mean A LOT.

Hopefully filming.

I don't know about the ASL Stew channel.

It's been like a month since we filmed,

but that just happens.

Just have a busy life.

Anyways, I've been... a little bit of physical pregnancy problems.

Nothing to be concerned about, but a change in diet hopefully.

You can probably guess what it is if you know about pregnancy,

but anyways. Umm...

Right now, just cleaning, cleaning, cleaning.

Maybe film after that.

Um...

we have a freezer downstairs.

Like a big fridge, but it's a freezer.

But it's really dirty. So we have to test it to make sure it works.

If it works, then we have to scrub it down before the baby

so we can have a bunch of freezer space ready for breast milk and stuff like that.

So hopefully... I don't know. It's a mess but I'll show you.

We got all of this stuff.

That's baby stuff that's got to go.

This is really cute.

Got all of this.

Oh nice candle.

Yeah, so you can see behind me it's a little bit of a mess

but that's okay we have lots to do

but we'll figure it out.

Today will be cleaning. Awesome, very exciting!

So right now, just got some new cords for our phones.

For the hospital bag I figured it'd be better to have a long cord.

Have that ready. You never know.

So we got more. We'll see if they work.

As you can see we had dinner at Wegmans. Just had something simple.

But now we made chili.

I'm gonna eat some but Jenna's full from before.

I know, it's been a month. Really sorry.

I'm just not in the mood to film a video tonight.

I have another one we'll be filming this week, but...

long story...whatever, I've been crying.

It's been that type of day. Stupid reason.

It'll get better. Let's just leave it at that.

Three Keys To Spiritual Ascension

Three of the most invaluable tools for helping us along on our path of spiritual ascension

(higher consciousness) are free and available to all: dreams, prayer and meditation.

If we would take advantage of these tools in a regular basis, much of the guesswork,

confusion and difficulties in our lives would vanish.

Dreams

Dreams give us a reading on what is happening in our lives, and provide a door to our soul

(our higher consciousness) for Divine insight, and higher dimensional teachings.

Dreams begin to awaken us to the fact that we are spiritual inter-dimensional beings,

in time-space, but not of it.

They are like a telegram from the higher self to the conscious mind.

They awaken us higher resources and libraries of wisdom and knowledge within ourselves,

giving us information on what is happening in our daily lives, and how to meet and move

through the problems that face us.

Dreams also give us insight into our future, so we are forced to ask, �How could I know

a thing like that?� A dream helps us realize that we are here only temporarily on the stage

of waking reality.

What we call life is really a school house.

There are many schools or levels of consciousness in the universe, and earth is one of the most

important.

During our sojourn here we are learning more about the true nature of our beings.

We are learning that we are infinite creative unconditional love energy, and that all of

our hurts, disappointments and disillusions come from a failure to recognize this truth

of who and what we are.

The purpose of the game of life is expanding our heart center and growth.

In all our life experiences we either go through or grow through them.

If we just go through them, then we will cyclically repeat them again and again until we learn

the lesson behind the appearances.

If we grow through them, then we are free of our karma and to move on to the next step

in our evolution.

Prayer

An often misunderstood valuable inner tool for ascension is prayer.

Prayer is the formulation of a request within our mind, or aloud, of what we prefer or need.

Most of us are used to asking from a source of fear and separation, rather than from a

place of oneness with Creation as our divine birth right as creators.

To pray most effectively it helps if we are relaxed and present within ourselves, and

allow ourselves to be filled with a strong sense of light and love.

Negative repetitive thoughts of ours, such as being unworthy of receiving, will undermine

such positive efforts.

In the laws of physical Universe, like attracts like; repetitive negative thoughts manifest

negative outcomes and circumstances.

If we affirm and feel light, love and wholeness, we invite them to enter our reality.

When we pray for things, opportunities or a particular relationship to manifest, it

is helpful to include a request for �this or something better.� Our ego (the rational

fixed mind) is often too attached to specifics and fixed outcomes.

The ways of the soul are often beyond the understanding of our unharmonized consciousness.

There may be a wonderful new dimension or opportunity awaiting us that we have not yet

thought of, that will be brought into our life we are but open to receive it.

Love, opportunity, joy and abundance await us, but they may not come through the specific

people or channels we have in mind.

We must be willing to release ourselves and others into our soul�s care, trusting that

we will find what we seek, and that all things are working out for our highest good.

We may also send prayers to others of light and love, but must honor and release them

to manifest as their soul sees fit.

Prayer is not intended by the light be used in a manipulative way, or we will attract

such darkness onto ourselves.

We can help support others through prayers, but also must avoid attempting to control

others lives.

It is honoring the power of the Universe to support and actualize our preferences for

our highest good.

It is often unwise and unfruitful to pray that someone else change to meet our expectations,

or that someone else loves us.

We must avoid trying to run other people�s lives through prayer.

We can send others light and love, but must honor and release them to use it as they see

fit.

Prayer, then in summary, is a way of focusing our conscious mind on goals and life direction.

It is honoring the power of the Universe within us to support and actualize.

Meditation

Meditation is our highway to enlightenment.

It helps us get in touch with our Divine spark, the Soul, or God within.

It opens us to higher levels of consciousness and rejuvenates our mind, physical body, energetic

body and spirit.

Our perception depends upon our level of consciousness (vibration, energy), and meditation is the

way to keep our energy at its highest.

Although positive changes often are experienced immediately from a regular meditation practice,

many are accumulative and gradual.

It delivers a significant reduction in stress, anxiety and an overall improvement in our

intuition, health, and feelings of inner-peace.

Many also experience an acceleration of guidance through dreams, visions and synchronistic

events.

When we meditate regularly, clearing each day as we go along, asking for insight to

problems, we will tend not need as many dreams to show us what is happening in our life.

We will already know.

We will see how we are setting ourselves up.

Also, we gain a greater sense of clarity on life missions and directions which can be

formulated and manifested through prayer.

Our dream images and meditation images are the same.

Until we gain a very clear and objective, however, it is still quite easy for us to

allow the conscious mind to get in the way of insight we receive during meditation.

That is why the dream state is much more reliable until we have been meditating for a number

of years and can recognize the difference between conscious desire and genuine intuitive

direction.

Meditation is not a magical drug that relieves all ills overnight.

It begins to sensitize us to our problems at hand, and supports us in maintaining our

energy levels, so we are better able to deal with whatever catalysts are trying to teach

us.

The purpose of it all, is to know ourselves and to see all lessons as positive catalysts

for us to learn and grow from.

Often our guidance likes to keep things simple.

We have come to earth to learn and each of us has free will and must find our own way.

What we seek is within us.

Although we were not handed a manual of living when we incarnated on Earth, we were assigned

angels, guides, teachers who walk with us.

Not one of us travels alone.

These wise and powerful beings are unable to infringe upon our free will, and do not

make our decisions for us, but lead us to insight so that we can make our own wise decisions.

If others, whether incarnated in a physical body or not were to make our decisions for

us, we would not learn.

what is good YouTube warstu here with another video on the Justice League

moves so yes again we've got more Justice League news as the movie comes

out next Friday worldwide and I believe it comes out Thursday in America so it's

revealed by the cast there's some deleted scenes which is normal for these

kind of movies but even more non which see this movie was supposed to be three

hours long and now it's supposedly well it actually is two thousand one minutes

so there's gonna be a lot of bonus footage within the DVD blu-ray release

so the post credits scenes are there they're normal for the MCU Jason Momoa

confer that there is at least two post credits scenes which you're not gonna be

green a lantern and dark side and maybe this flash versus Superman and race that

is pretty iconic so it was revealed what two of the deleted scenes are gonna be

Ezra Miller talking to MTV international in which his version of Barry Allen the

flash puts away a serious amount of hamburgers I love that scene where I was

eating all those hamburgers in the van and I was trying to think of a name if

I'm honest I like that scene sorry to see it go so they cut some scenes out

and also ray Fisher cyborg had a scene where he accounts a scene that was

included in the Justice League when its character Victor stone and a cyborg

has reunited with his mother on my end there is a scene that you see with

cyborg and his mother that one was really special and really unique so it

looks like he can make it and also in the same interview MTV asked him what

people they would love to bring into Justice League - as during the Justice

League press in London it was confirmed there will be Justice League - Ben

Affleck said he would love to see Black Canary which is pretty cool as she's

such an economist is quite well known henry cavill although some people call

in henry cavill if you're American but I'm pretty sure that British people and

answers named Henry covo and Americans say Henry

who plays Superman and me he added the Supergirl he said for that same reason

and it's nice to have a bit of family for Superman that is true

newcomer cyborg had the idea of hardcore comic book fans that will appreciate he

most wanted a Justice League more magical he wanted cetana because

she could come in and make some crazy stuff happen company as the Miller

responded to that Fisher by saying it will be scary heavens in that sword and

mistaken Sitara for the katana which is pretty funny so guys we all know

Darkseid was meant to be in a movie to start off with so does that mean and we

are getting dark side in a post-credits scene or maybe in a deleted scene or

leasing if you remember the whole Steppenwolf scene was elite post Batman

vs Superman by Lex well Lex was in it so I really do think that Lex Luthor is

gonna have some connection to Darkseid actually being in the movie which is

pretty cool let me know guys what you think about those deleted scenes it

would be pretty cool to see Barry on smash some burgers but there's also some

news these soundtrack for the Justice League movie is actually coming out

tomorrow so a lot of people saying spoiler that okay I guess you could say

sweat a lot because some of the tracks do giveaway it's some indication of what

they could be so there's a track could just this elite united and you can see

on YouTube let's sniff it if it comes out tomorrow

given that the title of the track is probably the moment in film where the

league gathers together the first time and faces off against the bad guys

Steppenwolf army of parody and foil apocalypse under the book under the

actual eye of Darkseid who'd be watching from the forth well so does this mean

that Green Lantern will show up in the movie or maybe a surprise villain like

Darkseid or maybe even Darkseid's daughter

we are only one week away from Justice League movie dropping it drops on Friday

the soundtrack comes out tomorrow so guys you cannot cheat already listen to

the challenge soundtrack online and it does sound pretty freakin awesome from

what I've heard it does sound very cool so guys if you

I keep posting images of darks like everywhere because darkside is so

freakin awesome and I find really interesting that Superman Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill however you want pronounce it keeps illiterate in that Superman is

dead and the whole team wants everyone to think that that Superman is dead I

think it's due to the fact that they don't think a lot of people watch PBS

and a lot of people don't know that Superman is actually dead in at the DC

film DC extended universe I'm gonna try and keep these videos LS spoilery I mean

talking about post-credit scene and deleted scenes it's not really kind of

spoilery I mean been such a big flash fan it would have been cool to see him

smash from hamburgers as in the flash season for flash season 3 we do see

Barry Allen eat a lot of burgers from big belly burger as that's the hot spot

but the arrow verse is very different to the DC extended universe and I'm so

excited to see Ezra Miller's version of Flash room idli as well as with mothers

flashpoint is going to be rushed it's going to be the main focal point they

are close to get invite the director I've been told and I've read so that is

going to be pretty freakin awesome anyway guys please like subscribe and

What's going on everybody? I'm your host Racks Hogan and this is another

to Long Beach this past weekend to score some exclusive drops, some cool

a spot that you can pick up hard-to-find rare grills, streetwear, shit like that.

Greetings earthlings! Welcome to the MadQueen Show! I am your host the Mad Queen

on today's menu, a Pijama Rant, because I didn't prepare anything else

well I didn't finish it in fact, I had something prepared but the thing is that I know

that is weak I didn't upload any video and I suppose that you can guess that when

I don't upload is because I am working

I suppose you can guess by the

size of my channel that I don't do this for a living which means that I need to

work like everybody else

and this past week has been so funny because, well, I

was making jokes on Twitter and I don't understand why people thought that the

jokes were only jokes and they were not the work that I was currently and

actually doing at that moment because I have a friend and he was shooting a porn film

and the thing is that the person that he had to edit the

film was really really bad in everything, she was supposed to have some experience

well, a lot of experience but the thing is that she only knew how to use Premiere

but she had no idea at all how to create storytelling using editing and

believe it or not in porn there's storytelling as well

so she also was absolutely messy with films, with the parts that were shot

with the raw films, and they were not sounded, they were not colored

everything was such a mess and my friend, he was like he was due for the deadline

and he needed someone to edit the rest of the film and do it fast so I

spent the days at his office doing it

yeah watching porn for a living

it sounds way more glamorous than it is

because it's awful to have to edit

something that is not properly ordered

when you don't even know where the audio belongs to, the thing is

we were editing this and at one point I had a problem because most of

the and the audios were horribly recorded, basically because this

girl that was editing was also in the shooting and I don't know why she didn't

understand that while the audio is being recorded she needs to be silent because

you need to record the actresses doing whatever the sounds they need to make at

that scene so the thing is that it seemed that we almost had no audience to work with

and at one point I was so sick trying to find what

audios, because, again, they had no order at all and at the beginning of the scene

where you're supposed to say aloud the name of scene and the name of

the take to know what audio belongs to what scene, this wasn't

anywhere I couldn't find a damn thing and at one point I told my friend well

if you want I can pick friend and a microphone, I have a microphone at

home to record my videos and I dub the film with a friend

actually, it wasn't exactly going to be my friend it was I mean a girlfriend because they

the film is started by two girls the another girl that was going to do it

with me was the producer who was the girlfriend of my friend and my friend

said that, well, probably was going to be pretty weird to dub a porn film with

your boss

it would have been fun

in the end the audio guy could do something about all the audio of the film and I don't

know exactly how he managed to take some audio out of this shooting I

really really can't understand how there's people that is so bad at a job and I

don't care if you're shooting a film working for JJ Abrams, or you're shooting porn,

or you shooting a YouTube video: you need to have a little bit more order if

somebody else is going to pick your job to continue it but

I also took like one hour and a half to get there every day and one hour and a

half to come back home so, yeah, I couldn't do anything else with my days

but there's one thing that I did

I don't know if you remember I showed you some

time ago that I was rebuilding my small office at home

because I wanted it to be the background of my YouTube videos and I

know that for some while you didn't hear anything else about it because I had to

stop it for health reasons and the thing is I'm starting doing it again because I

want to finish it and I I believe that the Pajama Rants I'm going to keep doing them

in the sopfa because you're going to miss it if I don't do it but for the rest

of the videos I'm going to do them there and as you can see here it still

lacks one of the shelves that I need to do, I'm probably going to do it next

month that is going to be made of metal, and it's looking great, it's looking

great, so this is the not finished version of what someday, in some

months you're going to see in the backgrounds of the video

as you can guess, if you follow me on Twitter you can guess that the action figure

that's going to be in the middle of it is going to be Fox Mulder

I lost it for a while I didn't know where I put it

and I have boxes and boxes of action figures at home

and it took me a while to find it but when I did it I was the happiest person in the universe so, yeah,

I'm going to put to put Fox Mulder in the middle I'm going to make a little

more decoration around it and I'm not going to show you the other side because

it's not finished yet but by the end of the month, because I ordered some things

on eBay and usually take a month to arrive, by the neck by the end of next

month are will probably most probably going to be able to show you

but I wanted to be finished because it's looking grand

Where Are All the Dead Animals? - Duration: 3:58.

Most of us are surrounded by wildlife, no matter where we live.

Even in cities, we share our neighborhoods with hordes of pigeons, squirrels, and raccoons.

But all of those animals die eventually, right?

So why aren't we tripping over critter carcasses on a daily basis?

Nature, it turns out, is remarkably good at getting rid of the evidence most of the time

— although there are some some rare exceptions that can leave us struggling to dispose of

thousands of carcasses.

The main reason you don't see many dead animals lying around is that most of them

don't just drop dead on their own.

Unless an animal is at the very top of the food chain, it's likely that it'll meet

its end at the hands — or rather, claws — of another animal.

Pigeons, for example, rarely make it past five years old before being picked off by

a predator like a hawk, owl, or stray cat.

Since these predators eat what they kill, their victims are usually gone before you

have a chance to see them.

Of course, sometimes animals do evade predators for long enough to die in some other way.

They could freeze to death in a winter storm, they could starve, or they could catch a lethal

disease.

But even then, they don't usually just fall over in the street.

Instead, they seek out a hiding spot when they feel themselves growing weak, crawling

into someplace like a duct or a hollow tree where you're less likely to stumble across

their carcasses.

And if they do die out in the open, scavengers like vultures, coyotes, and insects are super

efficient at finding and eating them, with an assist from decomposers like fungi and

bacteria.

Nature's cleanup crew can reduce a carcass to unobtrusive scattered bones and feathers

in just a few days.

So basically, it's not that animals aren't dying all around you all the time; it's

just that you don't usually notice.

Sometimes, though, a large number of animals die at once -- so many that everyone notices.

In spring 2015, for example, a bacterial infection killed off more than half the world's population

of saiga, an antelope species with a funny trunk-like snout.

It swept through herds in Kazakhstan, and more than 200,000 saiga died in less than

a month.

And in the winter of 2015 and 2016, tens of thousands of seabirds called murres washed

up on the west coast of North America after unusually warm water caused the populations

of the fish they eat to plummet.

Events like this can overwhelm nature's capacity to dispose of the remains.

People had to bury dead saigas in mass graves dug with bulldozers.

And if it seems that things like this are in the news more and more often, you're

not imagining it.

A 2015 study published in the journal PNAS found that these events are increasing in

frequency, becoming more common for birds, marine invertebrates, and fish.

The researchers followed a pretty strict definition of mass die-off, only looking at events that

killed at least a billion animals, 635 million metric tons' worth of animals, or 90% of

a population.

The study concluded that the most common causes of mass die-offs include disease, human-caused

disturbance, and toxins from things like algae blooms.

These events can permanently alter food webs, and they can endanger human activities like

farming, too — for example, if there's a die-off of a crucial pollinator species.

It's unclear why this sort of thing is on the rise, but the most likely culprits are

climate change and increasing environmental degradation.

Either way, scientists agree we need to do a better job of studying and tracking mass

die-offs.

These events are still pretty rare overall, though; it's not going to suddenly start

raining dead birds in your neighborhood tomorrow.

And the next time you do happen to run across a smelly, rotting dead animal, remember: you

have predators and scavengers to thank for the fact that this doesn't happen more often.

Vultures may look kind of creepy -- but they're doing an essential job as nature's janitorial

staff.
