once again I have had quite a few
messages from people saying mr. Duncan
please where are you are you going to
appear on YouTube this Sunday so here I
am on a Sunday afternoon just for you so
I hope you are happy this weekend I hope
everything is going alright I have had
two or three complaints about my live
streams not many it would appear that
most people enjoy watching my live
streams but there are some people who
say that mr. Duncan can you please talk
more about English could you please use
more words could you please explain
English words to us to allow us to
expand our vocabulary well that is the
reason why I am here in fact as I'm
talking to you now I am using English so
all of the words you hear right now are
English words so everything you hear
everything that comes out of your
computer and into your ear is English so
even though I'm talking to you right now
you are still listening to English and
hopefully I really hope so
fingers crossed that you are learning
English with me right now of course one
of the difficulties of doing this sort
of thing is you can not please everyone
all the time
the problem with pleasing everyone is by
the time you've made all of the changes
you end up pleasing no one so it is very
difficult to keep everyone happy but
I do try my best to keep everyone happy
with my English classes so my live
stream serves many purposes first of all
you can hear English being spoken but
also you can hear it being spoken
spontaneously because I don't plan this
there is very little planning involved
so I just like to come into my garden
and say hello to you and of course you
have a chance to say hello to me because
we have the live chat so this is
completely interactive interactive
that's a great word isn't it so if
something is interactive it means that
everyone involved can join in so you can
interact with me and of course I can
interact with you as well so how has
your weekend being have you had a good
weekend I hope it's been a super time I
hope you've had a lovely weekend of

terrible events taking place but today I
hope that I that I can make things nice

improve my speaking especially because I
don't meet any American people well you
don't have to talk to American people to
practice English you can talk to anyone
who is interested in English so they
don't have to be American and they don't
have to be British either so maybe you
can find some other people in your area
who is interested in learning English so
this is a very common problem certainly
in countries where very few people speak
English as a first or second language so
there are lots of people learning
English in countries where not many
people speak English on a daily basis
but my suggestions are you could create
your own group in
your area so maybe you could put
something in a newspaper or on a notice
board or even through the internet
through Facebook perhaps you could form
your own group also perhaps you could
get used to using English by recording
your own voice the Blackbird is very
excited so you could record your own
voice on your mobile phone and listen to
it but I think it's a good idea to find
other people who are also interested in
learning English so perhaps you could
create your own group maybe you could
create your own English group so that is
my suggestion for that I have a fly that
keeps landing on me I think I think it's
in love with me mr. Duncan how old is

very happy at the moment he's just above
my head singing perhaps instead of
listening to me maybe we could listen to

with movies - please give me effective
tips are you sir doger or is a dog there
are many ways of using movies or DVDs to
improve your English I always suggest
that if you want to learn English by
using movies it is a good idea to have
maybe a piece of paper and a pen nearby
so you can write words down so perhaps
you are watching a DVD and perhaps you
are also watching the subtitles on the
DVD well if there are any words that you
don't understand you can also write them
down you can always write them down on a
piece of paper and you can look them up
later in a dictionary or online so there
are many ways of using DVDs or movies or
even YouTube videos you can also use my
videos to help you as well don't forget
my live streams later we'll have
subtitles underneath captions so you can
use these live streams after they have
finished to help you to learn
pronunciation and of course maybe if
there are any words you don't understand
you can write them down and look them up

course China for many years has blocked
YouTube so Google and YouTube are in
fact blocked in China but of course
there are many ways of watching YouTube
in China you can use what they call a
VPN you can go around the firewall mr.
Duncan I am confused with the
pronunciation of the flap T some people
say we pronounce it as R is it correct
well I suppose it depends what word you
are saying which word you are trying to
pronounce mr. Duncan I love your lessons
I have a problem in pronouncing the P
and th sound ah yes I agree with you I
think the th sound the sound that
normally comes at the beginning of this
and that there those them the so I think
yes that is probably one of the hardest
sounds in English language to get right
I remember when I was in China many of
my Chinese students used to say ver ver
which of course is not correct you
should say the left the with your tongue
so you put your tongue between your lips
and gently between your teeth as well
but you don't want to blow too hard or
else you will spit everywhere so just do
it very gently this this that so it is a
very hard sound to make I agree in fact
I remember many years ago during my time
in China
so many of my students had difficulty
with that sound also I think the other
difficult sound is the the sound of
w-wha and of course the sound at the end
of Idi so words that end with Idi wanted
wanted wanted so the sound is almost
like a tea at the end so wanted wanted
so if you listen very carefully the
sound isn't actually one Ted wanted it's
wanted wanted so it almost sounds like
it ends with the T sound so words that
end with e D like
did hunted the sound is almost like tea
at the end

want to get around the Great Firewall of
China of course when we talk about
firewalls we normally mean something
that blocks the way so a firewall is
something that blocks the way so if you
try to access a certain website the
firewall will stop you it will prevent
you but of course there are VPNs which
allow you to go around around the
firewall very interesting

don't pronounce words in the same way as
if you are speaking them so always
remember that always remember that if
you hear as a person singing a song the
pronunciation of many of the words or
letters might be different
another interesting fact is the fact
that even if you have a very strong
accent you tend to sing without an
accent so you might have noticed that
when you hear American singers or
British singers singing together quite
often it is very hard to tell which one
is the British person and which one is
the American and that's because the
accent becomes very neutral it's very
neutral when you sing mr. Duncan we use
VPM to get access to the most popular
Russian tracker to download stuff yes I
would imagine uh well I remember of
course from my time in China many years
ago when I was there many of the sites
that existed outside China were blocked
but of course when I was in China
YouTube was not blocked and in fact that
is when I started making my videos on
YouTube so I actually created my YouTube
channel whilst still in China so it just
shows how times have changed over the
years
so when I was in China ten years ago
there there was no block on YouTube
YouTube was free you could watch it

English fluency I always get afraid of
talking with others in English ah now
that sounds to me as if you are having
difficulty with your confidence because
of course many people find learning
English to be easy and difficult there
are parts of learning English that are
very difficult and one of the worst ones
one of the hardest parts is speaking in
front of other people
to be honest even if you are a native
speaker like me sometimes it can be very
daunting it can be very nerve-racking it
can make you feel very nervous or afraid
to speak in front of other people so I
agree with you
even if you speak English as a first
language it can be very difficult to
speak in front of other people some
people feel very nervous talking
generally some people can be very shy

isn't difficult English this is everyday
English so the English I'm using now is
the sort of English that you will be
using in your everyday life so yes I

having said that I don't speak like the

internet connection here even though I
live in the countryside because one of

VPN account yes that's one of the
problems with using VPNs quite often you
have to pay and sometimes you have to
pay a lot of money to use a VPN yes I

mr. Duncan your pronunciation is very
clear but can you explain to us what you
do to pronounce sounds unnecessarily at
the end of words like disgusting well
you can pronounce G at the end so some
people cut or they clip the end of words
off for example running running you can
hear that there's no G at the end but
some people say running I'm going
running so you can hear that the G is
pronounced so it really depends on the
accent and this is something that I have
to keep explaining again and again and
again that within the English language
there are many many different types of
accent now some accents will pronounce
the words very clearly whilst other
accents will clip the words if you clip
a word it means you make it shorter you
you cut part of the word off so for
example if you say running you can say
running you can hear the G at the end
while other people might say runnin
runnin I went running last night so you
can tell what I'm saying
you still know that I'm saying running
running running you see so quite often
the way words are pronounced depends on
the accent that's being used at the time

what about function words content and
function words well yes of course they
are also very useful definitely well are
they good for having good intonation
well again intonation depends on what
you are trying to say so sometimes if
you are using a word negatively but the
word itself is positive then you are
using two different types of intonation
there so for example you might say that
something is good but really you don't
mean it
or maybe you are giving a negative
meaning to the word so maybe you want to
say good but really you want to say bad
so instead you will say good great
brilliant so even though the words are
positive words the intonation is
negative and quite often in English it
is possible to say something that is
positive normally but the intonation
makes it negative
sarcasm is another way of doing that so
sarcasm quite often takes positive words
or positive meanings and turns them
around to mean something negative
perhaps you are waiting for someone
maybe you are meeting a friend for an
appointment and they are late and you
are looking at your watch and you are
waiting for them to arrive and you are
getting very impatient then suddenly
your friend appears
and you say oh good you're early or oh
good you're on time but really you're
being sarcastic so quite often sarcasm
is used negatively in court in fact all
the time so sarcasm is a negative thing
but quite often we use positive words in
a sarcastic way so you can say oh good
you're here but really you're not being
positive you are actually being negative
you are saying something negative mr.
Duncan it's nice to see you please could
you suggest a few English books there
are many many English books
I'm not going to advertise English books
here but of course there are many many
textbooks many books that are available
in training centers and also libraries
as well and online as well mr. Duncan
Lorenzo says there are many vegetarian
restaurants where you live not around
here No
many of the cafes and restaurants around
here all serve meat but of course on the
menu they have vegetarian meals so if
you want to eat a vegetarian meal you
can so many restaurants and cafes around
this area they give you a choice so you
can have meat or you can have just
vegetables if you are a vegetarian that

well developing anything means doing it
again and again quite often with grammar
a good way of improving your grammar is
to listen to other people using English
that is probably the best tip I can give
you so if you want to improve your
English the best thing to do is to
listen to other people using English and
of course reading what is written can
also help you to improve your grammar as
well mr. Duncan how is it hanging it's

often mention there are many ways of
improving your spoken English you can
listen to your voice you can listen to
other people using English so - to learn
to speak quite often means doing other
things as well like listening to other

sounds the most attractive for your ears
to be honest I don't really have a
favorite so some people say that certain
accents sound bad or sound very harsh on
the year
many people say that my accent is very
nice to listen to but that's because
I've had years and years of practice and
of course I use English in my work so if
you are an English teacher it is always
a good idea to to speak clearly or else
your students won't understand what
you're saying but know that there are
lots of lovely English accents I do like
the southern accents in the South of
England
I do like like Cornish accent I do think
the Cornish accent is very lovely it's
very soothing mr. Duncan I hope to visit
England this year and I will be studying
at the LSC Stanton school and then I
will be willing to do a masters and
doctorate in the English language I hope
