Please help us so that my grandmother can live a comfortable life[Hello Counselor ENG,THA/2018.9.17] - Duration: 24:07."Please Stop."
I'm a 23-year-old college student from Seoul.
I get so emotional when I see a certain person.
It is my grandmother,
who is now 81 years old.
"Grandma. It's 2 a.m. Where are you?"
"I'm picking up recyclable waste.
I'm sorting them. Go to sleep."
Oh my.
My grandmother pulls her wagon and
collects recyclable waste day and night.
She works regardless of the weather.
"Oh, I have a headache. I'm dizzy
and I can't see very well."
She catches a cold often, falls down
and I had to call an ambulance several times.
She even got back surgery recently,
but she still goes out with a stomach belt
around her with a cane in one hand,
and a wagon in the other hand.
"Why do you work so much, Grandma?
You'll hurt yourself one of these days."
"I'm fine. Don't worry about me!"
I am so worried about my grandmother.
Please help us so that
my grandmother can live a comfortable life.
Was there ever a moment in life
when you realized that your parents
or your grandparents looked burdened?
For me, by the time I was in 6th grade...
(At such a young age!)
My parents were a lot smaller than me already.
(Minsang matured so early)
It's been a while.
They looked so small. My mom looked small.
(She can relate to it)
My father looked so small, too.
The problem was that I was too big.
You were undutiful too early.
JR and Ren, you are still young,
but did you ever feel that?
I felt the same way because
my parents both worked.
So my grandparents raised me.
When I was young, I was happy
to live with my grandparents.
But as I got older, I realized why
I had to live with my grandparents.
Sure.
Let's bring her out now.
Please come on out.
JR, Ren. Help her out.
(Who is concerned about her grandmother?)
(Special service)
Hello. I'm Kim Jihyeon from Nowon-gu.
(Nervous)
(Nice to meet you)
Your grandmother works every day,
not just once or twice a week to pass time?
Yes. She works every day without a day off.
She picks up recyclable waste with a wagon.
She hasn't been doing it for just a year or two.
She's been doing it for 17-18 years.
(Longer than they imagined)
Sometimes, she works until 2 or 3 a.m.
That's excessive.
Sometimes, she works all night.
She works all night, picking up recyclable waste?
(That's a lot)
Is there a reason why she works so much?
I think the biggest reason is responsibility.
Responsibility.
What kind of responsibility?
I have a younger brother.
My parents got divorced when I was 5.
We had nowhere to go, so Grandma took us in.
- You and your brother? / - Yes.
My grandmother had to work
in order to get us through
elementary school to college.
My grandfather was alive then, but he was blind.
I see.
So my grandmother was the only one who worked.
She's impressive.
It must've been tough raising you two by herself.
It must've been tough making ends meet.
We couldn't learn everything we wanted to.
But my grandmother did her best
to teach us what we needed and
guided us so that we wouldn't go awry.
How are things now in your life?
I was in school,
but I recently got a job at a hospital.
She doesn't have to work anymore.
We can get by with the money I earn
and funding we get from the government.
But she still insists on working so much.
Your grandmother just can't let go of her work.
That's upsetting.
In my case, my father was ill for many years.
But as soon as he was out of the hospital,
he would go back to work.
He had to farm and work...
That way he can stay healthy.
He felt like that was proof that he's still alive.
Maybe that's why your grandmother works.
She could be enjoying it.
But my grandmother isn't 100% healthy.
She's ill.
She got a back surgery and she has rheumatism.
Rheumatism.
Her hand joints.
That's very painful.
After she works for a day,
her hands get all cut up.
(Emotional)
It's heartbreaking for you as her granddaughter.
She's tearing up just thinking about it.
(Her hands show how tough her life has been)
She would fall down and get bruised.
If she works for 5-6 hours in the winter,
she gets a fever or catches a cold.
I had to call an ambulance several times.
If you are that worried about her,
you should try to stop her by force.
I argued with her many times
and I ran away from home once.
I told her, "If you keep this up,
I won't be your granddaughter anymore."
For a few days?
Did you come home right away?
- I left for a month. / - For a month?
What happened when you came back?
She had lost so much weight.
Even then, she insists on working?
She's very stubborn.
She doesn't care if I run away.
She still goes out to work.
(I'm very frustrated)
Why does she work so much even when she's ill?
Let's ask her directly.
Hello.
Hello.
She's so cute.
Be happy.
You too.
Grandma.
You couldn't work today because you're here today?
- Is that okay? / - I worked yesterday.
- You worked yesterday to come here? / - Yes.
Until what time?
I'm quite sick, so I can only pick up 3kg of waste.
I don't make much money.
They give me 3 cents per kilogram.
Then you get 9 cents for 3kg?
They give me 10 cents.
You worked and got 10 cents?
Yes.
I can't pick up any more than that
because of my back.
I have a stomach belt on like this.
Why do you work all day to get 10 cents?
Your granddaughter can earn money now.
If I lose my zone, I can never work again.
That's how I raised my babies.
But your granddaughter earns money now.
Please applaud her grandmother to thank her.
She raised her grandchildren so well.
When you were well,
how much waste did you collect per day?
200-300kg.
(Oh my)
How much did you earn that way?
They gave me 15 cents per kilogram.
So you earned $30 per day.
That's how you raised your grandchildren?
Yes.
(Shocked)
(How hard did she work for the past 17 years?)
You used to be able to do that,
but you are not too well now.
Since your granddaughter works,
she can pay for the expenses.
(No way!)
If I keep spending her money...
She's only 23 years old.
She has places to spend money on,
so Grandma wants her to spend money for herself.
I have nothing to pay her back with.
Let's say she gets married in 1-2 years.
I can't even afford to buy her a blanket.
Our family is on welfare.
We got financial aid when we went to school.
So that's taken care of.
My brother and I have earned money
by working part-time.
So I can finish college with that money.
You can finish college with that.
We can make ends meet with my salary and
the government money. But she refuses.
- She refuses to take your money? / - Yes.
She won't spend the money I give her.
She saves it up
so that she can give it back to us
in the future.
(You don't have to do that, Grandma)
I'm impressed.
Your granddaughter is worried.
She'd rather see you stay home and rest,
but you keep going out to work.
So I would like to ask you,
is there another reason why you insist on working?
Do you feel ill when you're at home?
I have depression.
- What? / - I have depression.
(They're surprised to hear the truth)
I had depression for 5 years after I took them in.
I even wanted to die at one point.
(Grandma...)
(She endured the hardship for her grandchildren)
(She still gave hope to her grandchildren)
(I will be the one to take care of you now)
So it's not just because of money?
People out there are still kind.
Some people give me water to drink
and some give me candies
and leave.
We understand now.
Did you know about this?
I did know about her depression.
But
I believe that she doesn't have to
overcome her depression by picking up waste
as she drags her wagon around.
With the money she earns,
she would buy us clothes with brand names.
But she buys cheap clothes for herself.
She spends more than half of the day working.
She has to eat while she's working.
She will pack leftover rice and side dishes
and eat on the street.
She eats on the street?
- Even in the winter? / - Yes.
She crouches on the street.
She crouches on the street and eats
to make sure no one steals her wagon
or her boxes.
(Heartbroken)
She wants to save money that way
and you don't want her to do that.
Why do you eat on the street like that?
Let's say I buy a meal for $10.
What's the point of earning money then?
But on cold days, you could eat ramen
in a convenience store.
I've never bought ramen in a convenience store.
- Because it's too expensive. / - Yes.
If I didn't live this way,
they wouldn't be where they are today.
It's such a rough world out there.
I paid $1,300 for their laptop
and someone stole it.
Who did?
So I bought them another one for $1,000.
You won't buy a 50-cent bowl of ramen,
but you got them another laptop for $1,000?
Then how else can they study?
- Who took it? / - Should've been more careful!
No! It's not her fault.
She left it in her locker and...
We're not scolding your granddaughter.
(Yeongja got yelled at)
My grandmother made a big decision
and got me the laptop when I got into college.
It's so heartbreaking.
I left it in my locker,
but it happens to be in a CCTV blind spot.
I never found out who took it.
JR, say something to the person who took
the laptop, even if it means you lose some fans.

I'm a housewife who lives a busy life.
I had our youngest child at an old age, over 40.
I have a 16-year-old daughter, a 10-year-old son
and a 5-month-old son.
I am now a mother of three.

My daughter says she's fine now.
But why am I so worried?

So I can't do any house chores.
When my daughter comes home, she babysits
while I do backed-up house chores.
What about your husband?
He leaves home early and comes home late.
So I rely on my daughter a lot.
Does your daughter do it voluntarily

I asked her to help me many times.
I have so much to do around the house,
so I tell her, "Babysit him for a little bit."
But that turns into 30 minutes to an hour and more.
Anyone who has children at home would know

In the past, when people asked,

How to Stop Dog Barking? 5 Best Expert Tricks - Duration: 3:38.Hi, Mirko here from Healthy Pet Systems.
Today I will give you 5 pieces of advice you can use to stop dog barking.
Those tricks are also used by experts and you can even use them to solve other dog problems.
Ok, let's dive straight in.
First, remove the barking motivation.
Dogs don't just bark.
They do so because there is some kind of reward that they get out of it.
You have to find out the motivation behind the barking of your dog and remove it.
For example, a dog might bark for such a simple reason as seeing passersby.
If the dog is barking at passersby from the yard, you'll have to bring him into the
house or build the opaque wall.
Second, make your dog learn the "quiet" command.
This is one of the most used techniques.
You can teach the dog by following the guidelines from my article.
Link to the article is in the description.
Tip: Train your dog the "quiet" command in calm environments, and then transit to
increasingly distracting situations.
Third, take your dog through sufficient physical and mental exercise.
When it comes to barking saying goes a tired dog is a good dog.
Physical exercise eliminates barking problems that are a result of boredom or frustration.
Walk your dog or use some kind of game like chasing the ball or playing with some interactive
toys to tire your dog out.
Fourth, ignore the barking.
Sometimes you'll have to ignore your dog when it is barking up to the point that it
will stop.
You'll avoid talking to him, touching him, or even looking at him until he gets quiet
whereby you'll reward him with a treat.
A good example is when the dog barks during the time it is confined.
You'll turn your back and ignore him until it stops barking then you'll turn around,
praise him and give him a treat.
Fifth, training.
Despite the many tools and tricks available to control dog barking problems, all of them
can only be more effective if they are combined with training.
You can train the dog the "recall" command which calls it away from barking triggers
such as doorbell ringing.
Teaching your dog the "speak" command helps it not to bark at other times and this
works when paired with other commands.
The "quiet" command as already explained helps your dog to calm down.
Another important command is the "sit/stay" command.
It can be used to keep your dog occupied in the event of a nearby barking trigger.
The interesting tool that can help you is a dog training whistle to stop dog barking.
It is used by professional trainers.
Ok, that's it for now.
If you want to find out more, I created a great extensive guide about the dog barking
problem.
In it, you will find: 7 reasons why dogs bark, 9 ways to get your dog to stop barking,
3 devices that can stop the barking problem, and other tips related to dog barking problem.
