Destroy negative thoughts
When they first appear.
This is when they are the weakest.
Towards any situation
About any person
About ourselves.
About nature
About the world
We keep creating thoughts.
If we start having the awareness about it
When we can see that the thought we are creating
Is not of the right quality
It is a beautiful line given
When the first begin they are the weakest.
Any such things need to be finished when they are weak.
Like how we say it is very easy to change Sanskars in children
Because right now their sanskars are soft.
They are quickly influenced by information.
By changing the information or vibration, their sanskars can be changed.
Similarly when our thought is like a little child
When a particular thought is in its state of childhood - when it is young or new
If we change it when it is in that state of childhood (young) itself
That is the easiest.
What happens is, when we start creating thoughts
For a long time we will not be aware that the thought is not right.
So it keeps on going one after the other, continuously.
Only after sometime it starts troubling us.
By then it becomes strong Sanskar.
For example if I create a thought about another soul.
Many thoughts are created, and they are going on.
Suppose for many days things are not okay between us and I am very judgemental about that person.
I am critical about them in my thoughts.
This has been going on.
There is no awareness so I don't change the thoughts.
After a while that problem and that negativity
Will start reflecting in that relationship and not in my mind.
Where can we see the problem, at what stage?
When it manifests outside.
For example, consider our physical health.
Where does it start? From our thoughts.
But when years of wrong thoughts radiate to the body
After years it takes the form of a physical ailment.
It takes the form of a physical illness.
At that stage we realize that we need to change something.
Now we understand that we need to change something in our thoughts and not at the physical level.
But when do we get that awareness?
Only after we saw its manifestation on our physical health.
When did we get the Awareness to change our thoughts?
When we saw them creating a knot or conflict in our relationship.
When it takes the form of a knot in our body or in a relationship.
After that if we start changing the thoughts
It will take more efforts.
That is why we say every day we need to create right thoughts and radiate them.
We need to send it for many days or many months, every day.
Only then the knot will be released.
The effect of our thoughts
When we look at the effect
Now at least we have the knowledge. Earlier we did not even know that thoughts were the cause.
So checking and change were not happening at all.
Now we have the awareness that the effect is a result of my thoughts.
So I need to change my thoughts.
Only when I change my thoughts this will be fine.
But when it has already resulted in an effect outside
At that time if we start changing our thoughts, it is going to take some time.
Energy created over a long duration will result in a consequence.
The quotation says - Destroy negative thoughts when they first begin.
Because that is the time when they are the weakest.
Which means discharging our duties throughout the day
We should pay attention to the mind.
And see what are my thoughts at this time.
Whether it is about somebody, about myself, about a situation - what am I thinking?
We need to cultivate a practice that even as we do everything that needs to be done outside
We may be very occupied in everything that we will be doing
From morning to night we are doing quite a lot of work
Even while taking care of everything outside
We need to constantly pay attention to our mind.
About what is going on there.
And the moment we sense anything of a wrong quality going on in the mind.
Stop, take a break.
Even if it is just of 30 seconds or one minute
Explain to yourself and change.
This is Rajayoga lifestyle.
This is meditative lifestyle.
Not meditation only in the morning and evening.
Meditation means healing.
Healing means we need to heal the emotional wounds.
The moment the wound is created
The moment the pain is felt, it is to be healed immediately.
If we create a pain for the whole day
If we heal it only towards the evening or night or the next morning
Then it takes longer and more effort to heal.
Can we watch our thoughts and pay attention?
Sometimes we can, but not always.
Can you see your thoughts right now?
Earlier I could not see them. Now I can see them at least after 25% of 50% of them are created.
Earlier I could see them only after creating all of them.
Earlier we would not even take their responsibility.
The equation itself was opposite. We said the thought came because somebody did something.
We have not taken the responsibility.
Now we are taking responsibility as the first step.
That irrespective of what people do
I created the thought.
But sometimes thought that created from the other side, isn't it?
Even if a thought is coming from somebody else
If we have the awareness
That a particular thought is going on in my mind
Regardless of where it is coming from, it is going on, on the screen of my mind isn't it?
Agreed.
If something is going on, on the screen of my mind
I have the power to change it.
Why is it so important now?
Because the environment we are in today
The office we are working in
The people we are living with
The staff, the community and as a society
We are going through a phase when negativity is considered common, normal and natural.
Whomever we ask
About quality of a majority of their thoughts
Negative, although they may not realize its depth.
But there is a long list of worry, fear, anxiety and other emotions.
If the body is healthy but one tooth is aching, our attention goes completely on that aching tooth, isn't it?
We don't pay attention to the rest which are fine.
Likewise if we are hurt because of someone, upset about someone or have enmity with someone
If someone has wronged you, you want to take revenge
All these thoughts are going on, non-stop.
Now visualize yourself
Wherever we are - maybe at office
Or in public transport like in a bus or train or flight
Especially when we are with a lot of people
Basically where there are many Minds around us
Or if there are many people where we live.
Why do people say they like staying alone?
They don't want to live in a place where there are energy fields of other people.
Why?
Because people's energy fields are towards negativity.
We are not able to protect ourselves from them.
They are influencing us.
So today we say it is better to live alone.
It is also possible that my acceptance level has come down.
Suppose I am sitting alone here.
Then it's only me and my mind.
So I can take care of my mind.
Even if a wrong thought is created I can check it and change.
But if suddenly 7 more people come here.
Now I am taking care of my mind
But 7 other minds are still creating their energies.
Out of 7 people
If there are 2 or 3 people who are feeling hurt
One of them might have created anger before coming here
It is going on in his mind.
Whatever is going on in his mind is here in this circle.
That energy field is present.
It will influence me.
I will not feel very comfortable.
If my Energy field is not high enough then it will influence me.
I am not very comfortable so what do we say?
I will say I want to move a little away.
Actually who are we trying to move away from?
We want to keep ourselves away from the state of mind of other people around us.
Why is it affecting me?
Can't I be strong enough not to get affected?
Very good, so we have to work on that. In some cases we can move a little away from people.
But how can we go away at all times?
We cannot get off an aircraft to move away from people there.
How will we move away from office?
How can we move away from family?
Which means we need to live with everyone
We need to work with everyone
We need to be around energy fields of different people.
But for those energy fields not to affect us, we need to take care of our mind.
Because vibrations will definitely come.
As you said thoughts are continuously coming for a long time.
So vibrations are coming from somewhere.
But if they keep coming and we do not change them
The negative thinking will go on for a very long time.
If it goes on for a long time
Then as per the quotation it is very difficult to finish it, because it has been going on for a very long time.
My grandson has a habit of biting his nails.
Sometimes the nail is so short so even the skin beneath it gets affected.
He is unable to give up that habit. He himself says he can't refrain.
We had been to a medical store and they give a nail polish
Which will prevent nail biting.
So now even if he put his finger into the mouth he doesn't like the taste and so he stops.
Seeing that my wife said - I wish I had done this two years back.
When he had started that habit.
Because now it is such a deep have it for him.
Beautiful. For any habit or any Sanskar
In fact the line says for any thought
If we change it in the initial stage, effort needed is less and result comes quicker.
It can change later also.
We can never ever say that we cannot change our Habit, sanskar or thought. It can be done anytime.
Why not do it when it is at its weakest?
That child would not have suffered for two years because of that habit.
You are only looking at two years.
Even the kid is admitting that he is unable to change the habit. He was in pain.
After going through the pain the awareness came
That we need to change the habit.
When he had just started nail biting it was all just normal.
We also thought the Habit will change, so we did not take it seriously.
Later on it became a serious matter. At that stage
Now we are putting in effort.
And also regretting.
That we did not stop it when it was the weakest.
So let us start doing it when it is the weakest.
Let us not do it after it is brought to the level of Sanskar.
Latest change it at the level of thoughts.
Once it becomes a Sanskaar we will need to put in more effort.
How do we do it at the thought level?
Suppose criticism has become my Sanskar.
How did it become a Sanskar?
I looked at your mistakes, that person's mistakes, another person's weaknesses, found fault with somebody else.
By doing it several times criticism became my Sanskar.
Once it became a Sanskar it came very easily.
But if I have the knowledge
If we look at our mind constantly
That just now I noticed somebody's mistakes
Right now I am thinking about somebody's weakness
I am criticizing this person in my mind.
It will be visible and we just have to watch it there.
Not even in words but watch that it is going on in the mind.
This is the time when it is the weakest.
It is at its weakest.
Once we get this awareness
That my thought is not right at this moment
Because now I have the knowledge - that looking at somebody's weakness is not right.
Worrying about a situation is not right.
Feeling jealous about somebody is not right.
Now I have the knowledge and I just need to do that checking within.
Earlier we called them normal so we never checked them.
Now we have the knowledge so we just need to do the checking.
I can see my thoughts that I am thinking this way about them.
When I can see it then what do I need to do?
It is like, you can see the dust that has started to gather on things around you.
Will you wait for it to get dirtier and more dirtier?
Will you clean it after that that becomes a permanent stain?
A stitch in time saves nine.
Yes it will not take more effort then.
It is visible that I am thinking of somebody's mistakes.
It is visible that I am thinking of somebody's Sanskars.
It is visible so stop, pause and change.
If needed, let us write it down at that time
All this is also study.
I did not understand about writing it.
Suppose I see that you are not sitting in the right posture.
I create a thought about your posture
Is this the way to sit?
If I get a wrong thought I should write it down?
Write the opposite thought.
Suppose I create a wrong thought for you now.
Look at how he is sitting, is this the way to sit?
I am criticizing you inside.
About the way you are sitting.
Now I have the awareness it is not the right thought.
If I don't stop that thought right now, what happens?
It will keep going on and radiate to the body.
It will radiate to you and will come back from there.
It becomes strong.
Another point is that the sanskar of criticism becomes stronger.
It will certainly become stronger.
So let us work on it when it is the weakest.
So now I can see that I have created a thought - look at the way he is sitting.
He always sits like this.
I can see my thoughts. So now I just stop.
Check. Change.
The way he is sitting is comfortable for him.
He is right from his perspective.
When we change the thought the mind learns
The mind needs to learn a new way of thinking.
But if we start teaching it at the beginning itself.
Like how kids are taught to speak in the initial years of their life.
If a child is pronouncing a word wrong
If we ignore it, saying he is after all a child
If we do not teach him that the word is not to be pronounced that way, but this way.
If we teach him initially, it becomes so easy for the child to learn.
But if many years pass and if we teach when he is 20 years of age
This is not the right way to pronounce it, that is the way.
At that age it takes effort for the child to change.
We have the knowledge that when we teach them in their young age
They will start pronouncing it the right way since then.
We need to test the mind the right words.
If I am now creating thoughts - why is he sitting like this or why is he doing this
I put a break then and there.
This is not right. Change.
It is comfortable for him, it is his perspective.
It is his Sanskar.
5 minutes will pass and again the mind will say
But he should not have done this.
Who will do like this, does anyone do that?
Again I have to teach my mind.
It is his sanskar and he is comfortable with it.
It is right for him.
If you find it important you can share your advice with that person.
But don't let it go on in the mind.
What we do is we do not always speak to the other person.
But here it just goes on for very long.
We have to finish it when it is at the beginning stage and when it is at its weakest point.
At that time if we are not able to think the right thought, we can write it down.
Write as - That person is right from his perspective.
This is his Sanskar.
It is as simple as teaching somebody another way of talking.
We have to teach our mind and other way of thinking.
And that should be done when it is in the initial stages of that thought.
The first thought of worry.
Which means there should be no misunderstanding
We can do it at any age
But at the initial stage of the thought.
Not the initial stage of the age of the body.
If we don't pay attention to something in its initial stage
After a while we say our thought towards that person is always like this.
Suppose I have an argument with someone
Or if I go to a shop and the vendor does not treat me right
Then there will be continuous thoughts of he spoke to me and what I should have said.
I wish I had done this
Why did I keep quiet?
It goes on for so long and so much soul power is getting depleted.
We are putting effort to do meditation every morning
We are studying Gyan
We are working on changing Sanskars
Apart from that if you don't pay attention
For example, if you are putting efforts to decorate your room
You are even getting it painted
But if it is gathering dust from one side, how can the room look good?
We are doing the big things right like meditation everyday
Along with that, the dust which has just started to accumulate
It has to be cleaned at that stage itself.
One day I turned on the air conditioner but the room was not getting cooled
Then I saw windows at the back were open.
It was so funny.
But it is so deep.
If you had not paid attention to the windows that were open
What all would we have done?
We would have tried to correct or get the air conditioner repaired.
Even then it would not work because of the open windows. But we would have said the AC is no longer working.
We will decide to buy a new AC.
We do everything but do not notice that leakage
The leakage of where my energy is getting depleted.
That happens with these small thoughts.
You mentioned that we put so much effort
But we don't notice the quality of our thoughts like criticism. It just goes on.
Suppose you do not appreciate somebody's success.
If you are creating a thought - this person got so much
But I did not get.
This is a thought and jealousy begins at the thought level.
Then we bring it into words and we also behave in a certain way.
If that thought goes on for a while we feel inferior
After that we don't like that person at all
All that happens much later.
But our first thought when we see somebody successful
First thought when we see somebody's behaviour
When it is subtle and at the beginning stage, we need to check it then.
It is his destiny which is a result of his good Karma.
The mind will obey, it only need answers.
It is also important because
There are many negative energies around us.
If people have jealousy in their mind
Then that vibration of jealousy will come to me also.
If people have criticism in their mind
That vibration of Criticism will come to me.
And maybe even I have that Sanskar.
That Sanskar will get triggered.
By going into a temple if our Sanskar of peace can get triggered
And we say - I feel peaceful
Similarly when we live in an environment where negativity is prevalent, our negative Sanskars will also get triggered
And we will start creating that.
When the creation is in its initial stage
We should pause and make efforts to change that thought.
We need to create the right thought, repeat that thought.
We may need to repeat it several times. If it is still not helping we need to write it down.
You gave the example of shopkeeper not treating you properly
You remember that incident even now.
It means even now that thought is going on.
But if you had changed the thought that day itself
That his behaviour that day was based on his mood and his Sanskar
Where is my ego getting hurt?
What am I feeling bad about?
I am I feeling bad that he did it with me?
It was in that state of mind at that moment.
He was irritated. Not sure if he was upset about something that happened at home.
Or maybe his Sanskar is like that.
He is a shopkeeper. Why do we need to keep that matter here?
The thoughts would have got cut and the matter finished that day.
Instead what did I record?
The energy exchange can go on for a very long time with that soul.
We need to practice that while we do everything
An awareness of what is going on here
This is like a background music.
Sometimes when we are working in a room, we play music in the background.
Are we aware of what music is playing?
Often the music will be playing but we are just not aware.
We are so occupied with our work
Suddenly at one moment we become aware of the music.
And then we say - I don't want this music, I will change it.
Likewise there is music going on here in the mind.
There is a song continuously playing here.
It is a song of our thoughts. We should always pay attention to it.
Always. Even while doing everything outside, ask yourself - what did I think?
Change if required.
If we do this, self transformation becomes very easy.
Quality of thoughts will change.
Because you are changing it at the initial stage.
You are not allowing it to reach your body.
Not allowing it to reach other people.
We can't stop them, we need to replace them.
If you stop, they will come back again.
We replace them with opposite thoughts, with understanding.
You were mentioning about the habit of Criticism.
Leaves are falling from this tree
If I start criticizing - how can leaves just keep falling on us when we are sitting here?
We set everything and now leaves have started falling?
My mind starts talking like this.
Why is my mind talking like this?
Because it is habituated to negative thinking.
That thought can be in somebody else's mind and I have caught that thought.
I need to pause here.
And tell myself - this is fall season. These leaves are so beautiful.
Trees are bound to shed leaves in this season.
With that the mind stops asking why the leaves are falling.
But if we don't explain it to the mind
It can go on questioning for a long time
So the mind is like a young child
The moment it starts speaking
We need to teach at the right words at that initial stage itself.
Very important.
This is art of thinking.
If we do this, we will be changing our thoughts when it is at its weakest.
That change is very easy and simple.
After few days it becomes a practice.
It is very important also.
