Caitlin's Complexly Back to School Playlist - Duration: 1:20.

Hi, I'm Caitlin Hofmeister.

I'm the senior producer of SciShow and all its related projects, like SciShow Space,

SciShow Psych, SciShow Kids, and SciShow: Tangents, here at Complexly.

And right now is my favorite time of year!

For most of my life, late August/early September has been the time to head back to school.

So even though I'm not operating on an academic calendar anymore, it's still a time for

me to focus my energy on learning and making things.

So thinking about a classic school day, and all the various subjects you can cover, as

well as all the demands made on your brain, your comfort zone, and your creativity, I

put together this playlist of a few of my favorite thinkers on YouTube.

Like the best teachers, each of these creators knows the viewer is smart and brings their

own knowledge and curiosity, but also that we can all be pushed.

Each of these videos asks more of us as learners.

To embrace the beauty in what we might too quickly write-off as ugly, to stop and investigate

something we've just accepted and never questioned, to expand our definitions of things,

and to develop and keep updating our own ideas.

I should also say that none of these creators knew I was going to put their video in a back

to school playlist, and while I think all of these videos are inspiring and perfectly

appropriate for anyone over the age of 13, if you're paying close attention, you'll

hear a word that you don't want younger viewers to hear.

I pointed out which videos in the description,

so you can just skip those if it's best for you.

So, thanks for being here, and have a great day at school!

The Secret Of The Unopened Vault Of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple - Duration: 8:29.

The secret behind the sealed door of Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple

Is there anyone here who is intrigued by mysteries buried deep by our ancestors?

If you are anything like us, you also feel that these well preserved mysteries are waiting

to see the light of day.

The Hows and whats that these incomplete riddles leave unanswered pull us into a never ending

abyss but curiosity is known to work its magic on man for centuries!

Let's hold this thought and venture into the culture-filled land of India because what

else keeps secrets better hidden than centuries old traditions and customs?

Now that we have convinced you to peep into the Asian country of India, let's limit

the focus to down south.

So what is the biggest mystery that continues to rage in Kerala?

No points for guessing, it is obviously the Vault B in Thiruvananthapuram's Sree Padmanabhaswamy

Temple!

That's exactly what we'll be unveiling in this video.

But before we take the plunge into the dark vaults and darker secrets hidden in them,

let's take a tour into the history of the temple.

Located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the Padmanabhaswamy temple is dedicated to Lord

Vishnu.

The deity is enshrined in the "Anantha Shayanam" posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the serpent

Adisheshan.

Now if you want to bow down to the principle deity and pray, know that only those who profess

the Hindu faith are permitted entry to the temple and devotees have to strictly follow

the dress code.

Anyway, did you know that the name of the city Thiruvananthapuram in Malayalam translates

to "The City of Lord Ananta", referring to the deity of Padmanabhaswamy Temple?

Apart from the serenity of the temple and the strong spiritual wave that will hit you

when you set foot in the temple, there is a lot that will cast a spell on you!

The temple is a visual treat with the intricate fusion of the indigenous Kerala style and

the Tamil style architecture.

The 16 century Gopuram with its ornate design is nothing short of an architectural marvel!

But what will catch your eye on the first look is the golden exterior which we may take

the opportunity to explain, is actually pure gold!

Come on, the Padmanabhaswamy temple isn't the world's richest temple for nothing!

Seems like we managed to capture your attention, ah don't worry we weren't bluffing about

the prosperity of the temple.

But to erase your suspicions, how about we go into the details of it?

The opulence of the temple is not limited to its gold plated glory, there is more to

it than the eye can see!

Let's just say that underneath the temple, there is the largest treasure that man has

ever come across!

Don't believe us?

Uhhmm, let's take you back to the fateful day of June 27, 2011 when the most impressive

treasure was unearthed!

The story of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple and its treasures remind us of an Indiana Jones

movie!

Even before the vaults were opened, it was expected to reveal silver, gold and other

precious items in great quantity because of the offerings made by devotees to the temple

in the last 500 years.

But what came out of the secret cellars was beyond belief!

A team of experts appointed by India's Supreme Court opened five vaults dedicated to the

deity Lord Vishnu in 2011, following a private petition seeking transparency in the running

of the temple.

Well, after the treasure was discovered, it made sense why the vaults were not opened

until that point and also why was there a need for a petition to open the vaults even

though the temple authorities were aware of the 6 vaults.

Treasures worth $22 billion were found!

You heard that right, 22 BILLION DOLLARS, woah!

Well, the shrine dates back to the 10th century, but the present massive granite structure

was built only in the 18th century after King Marthanda Varma expanded and consolidated

the Travancore kingdom.

It was historically a royal temple but offerings in gold were made not just from Travancore

kings and other Kerala royalty but also millions of ordinary devotees.

Wow!

Now you know why the vaults were full of gold coins dating back thousands of years!

Not just coins, but gold necklaces as long as nine feet and weighing about 2.5 kg, gold

ropes, sacks full of diamonds and thousands of pieces of antique jewelry studded with

diamonds and emeralds, crowns and other precious stones lay scattered in the chambers.

The things were not systematically arranged, earthen pots full of gold, baskets, copper

pots were scattered everywhere!

They also discovered ceremonial costumes, and solid gold coconut shells studded with

jewels.

The most impressive of the gems were large diamonds, some of which were even a hundred

and ten carats.

But wait, the best is yet to be told!

An idol of Lord Vishnu was found in one of the vaults of the temple which was made entirely

of gold.

Any idea how precious it was?

Some archaeologists and gemologists estimated that the idol could very well cost about 30

million dollars.

Let that sink in!

Today if you visit the temple, you will find immense security guarding the treasure, from

metal detectors to security cameras and more than 200 guards in position.

But maybe the guards are protecting something else, what could that be?

Let's re-travel the route into the underground vaults, if you remember we told you about

the existence of 6 vaults.

For documentation purposes, they were named A, B, C, D, E and F. But the treasure we told

you about was from 5 vaults because vault B stayed shut!

You weren't expecting this twist in the tale, were you?

We forgot to tell you that the 7 member committee designated for the search could open five

of these vaults, with exceptional difficulty.

Vault A was very tough to open, it took a whole day to barge into it while the vaults

C through F have been opened about 8 times through the years.

But what about vault B?

You would be surprised to know that the Chamber B is not a part of the documented Temple Treasury!

That means nobody knows what lies beyond it.

When the committee reached vault B, the heavily rusted door with 3 different levers requiring

3 separate keys was jammed shut.

Nobody entered the vault and hence it still stays a mystery.

But many people believe that the 6th vault inside the temple conceals greater riches.

They have reason to believe so!

According to an ancient legend, anyone who tried to open vault B was attacked by deadly

serpents because of an ancient curse on those who defile the sacred site.

Is the site really cursed or is it a story fabricated to keep the dark secrets hidden?

In this case, maybe this story is just trying to keep the treasure safe.

According to Auditor General Vinod Rai, vault B had been opened once in 1990 and twice in

2002 and no unspeakable horrors were faced which is in stark contrast to the legend.

But the royal family of Travancore claims that on those few occasions only the ante-room

of the vault was opened, while the main chamber of the vault went untouched.

But who knows the complete truth?

Vinod Rai presses on the need to open the vault B and catalogue its contents to prevent

theft.

But since the door could not be opened with the latest technology available, we don't

think the world will come to know about the secret of this vault anytime soon!

But it is interesting to note that fables about the serpent curse on the vault has done

its job of keeping the vault locked for so long.

Who knows if the vault has trillions hidden in the form of gold and diamonds or if there

is something else hidden in the vault that the snakes are protecting?

What do you think is behind vault B of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple?

4 Sprachen in 16 Monaten - ist das möglich? - Duration: 5:20.

Hello, today for the first time in German.

I will bring more German videos in the future

In the next video I will explain step by step how you can improve

your German with my videos.

And switch on subtitles, if you do not speak German well or not at all

for this video, in English, Spanish also in German, and that can help you

to understand the content.

But today, and in this series, I will explain to you my goals in language

learning, simply because I am always asked, hey what is your method, what is the best way to learn

new languages effectively and quickly.

And for me, language learning is something very individual, and my approach is very

intuitive.

And so, this series, this video is meant to show how I motivate myself in the long term,

because for me motivation is the best way to learn a new language.

I think many students .. I think they are often a bit too impatient.

And many underestimate how much thirty minutes each day, cumulatively for the whole

year, can bring to success.

If you study for thirty minutes every day, you may not be fluent

after 1-2 months.

However, if you do that for a whole year, you will succeed.

And at the latest after 2-3 years you can actually speak virtually any language fluently.

And, many just do not have the motivation.

I think in a series of videos where I can document my process and the progress of my

languages in videos, then shows best how I learn.

I hope that this is interesting and useful for everyone who is

interested in languages.

Why exactly 4 new languages, why exactly these languages?

That's the next topic.

How do I choose the languages?

My iTalki students always tell me, or often, that they want or need to learn the language

because of work or study or because they are moving to another country.

This is not an ideal reason for me to learn languages.

For me, the reasons are always ... always have to evoke something emotional in me.

They have to somehow inspire me.

Somehow they have to affect me.

For me it is often a journey to a foreign country where I show people who

openly and warmly welcome their culture.

Or .. exactly, these are the reasons for me to stay motivated in the long term,

know other cultures.

And why exactly these languages.

It was just that with Portuguese.

I've never been to Brazil, but now in the World Cup in Russia, where I've been

in St Petersburg, I've met a lot of Brazilians, Brazilian fans who just love

to have that South American temperament in them.

They have motivated me to travel to their country Brazil.

I definitely want to do it in the near future.

Yes, that's one of the reasons.

Of course I have deeper reasons for Italian.

My grandmother was Italian.

I lived most of my life on the border with Italy.

I firmly believe that you can only learn one language at a time,

a new language.

At least to a level until you understand and recognize the basic structures, the basis of the language.

And then you can go on to the next language.

That's why I'm going to take a similar approach as Steve Kaufmann explaining in his Youtube videos

that he's always engaged in a language group for 3 months.

So 3 months Slavic languages, Ukrainian, Russian, Czech or

whatever he does then.

And then goes to the Romance language group.

I will do that in a similar way, but not with language groups, because the problem

I already see now with Portuguese, Spanish and now Italian ... that I now

easily confuse these languages.

And I do not really want that.

I want to learn Portuguese only when I learn Portuguese, and I do not want to

involve this Spanish influence too much.

(Exactly, that's about me.)*hard to translate*

Write in the comments which goals you set, which new languages you would

like to learn, and how you especially periodized how you split them.

So you learn all at the same time, you learn several languages at once,

or you do it like I do?

I will always stay with one language for 2-3 months and then move on to

the next and then repeat.

You are welcome to share this video.

I would be happy and I will soon bring a new video, again in German.

See you then, bye!

Different Roles You Play You Didn't Know - Eckhart Tolle - Duration: 20:10.

so let's do what we've now started as a

tradition a moment of silence yes and

the question is where to put our

attention and this time I suggest we put

our attention into the feeling of

aliveness within what I call the inner

body to feel that there's actually live

inside your hands the good place to

start is always with the hands to feel

yes I could feel somehow that there is

an aliveness in here the cells are alive

and that's the beginning of feeling

being able to feel the entire inner body

the energy field as a global sense of

aliveness and just put our attention

there rather than have it in the head

and then we can enter actual stillness

because stillness doesn't happen until

the mind becomes still usually the mind

doesn't stop until you take attention

away from it and put it somewhere else

so we're putting attention into the body

and so we can go into stillness just for

half a minute or so

thank you much let us begin here on

chapter 4 which is a very long chapter

yes and you wrote this you must you

must've been at it for a while yes and

in a way it reflects all the main themes

in the books that actually already

contained in that chapter yes the

chapter is called role-playing

the many phases of the ego so before we

really begin I'd like to take a moment

and talk about one of the most

frequently asked questions that we

receive by far so many people who are

committed to to the book and becoming

aware of a new way of thinking a new way

our way of consciousness want to know

how they can relate to people in their

lives who are not yet on this path and

don't think they need to be sometimes

it's a co-worker or a friend or even a

spouse you all have said to us on many

of your emails and it can feel very

divisive and we got an email from a

gentleman who says listen my wife isn't

interested in this I don't know what's

gonna kind of happen to our relationship

so that question actually came up as one

of the last questions from Qatar the

very first session that we had but it's

an ongoing question that a lot of people

the more they become engaged in the book

or feeling and wanted your response to

yes the main thing is that the shift can

only happen inside you so not to expect

other people to also change or to expect

or say I cannot change unless somebody

close to me also changes the main thing

is to take responsibility for your own

state of consciousness and allow other

people especially people that you are

close to to be where they are not to

demand that because something is

happening inside you and you are

beginning to change not a demands that

others should also change change does

not come about in others by trying to

make them change the

powerful way of bringing about change in

others is not trying to bring about

change in the other but to completely

accept the other as he or she is so

that's that is absolutely vital they

they're even schools of psychotherapy

that recognize that so you give the

other person you complete acceptance and

that's part of this change that's

happening in us is that we step out of

the judgmental mind that continuously

judges the other so we step out of that

and if we step out of the judgmental

mind we are able to simply accept the

your partner a close friend the family

member a relative this is where they are

at right now they are still going from

their old behavior patterns what has

changed is you are no longer resisting

their present and reacting to and by

reacting reinforcing their pattern

that's right that's right so you are not

taking part in that game anymore so part

of your change has to be your

willingness not to judge you know to sit

back to be an observer in your own life

and then to more clearly see the ego and

others as you also see it in yourself

yes don't judge it no and it's just know

that that's what it is

yes and don't mistake what you're

observing the behavior that people

manifest as them not that's not who they

are

hey and that's a vital distinction

because if you mistake that for who they

are then you will perpetuate that kind

of behavior so that's not it won't work

acceptance is vital acceptance and isn't

it sort of like I mean all of you who've

asked that question it's kind of like

when people join the church or are quote

born again or you know we've heard about

being born again in the church or you

find Jesus or you find Buddha or you

discover a new way of being for yourself

and now you want everybody to go to

Jesus yes and you want everybody to

believe what you believe

that is part of your ego that now wants

people to believe what you believe

yes and so that's a trap one can fall

into even with this teaching which isn't

really based on belief at all so it's

not a new belief we are not trying to

find some new believe it's going beyond

beyond the thinking mind to into

awareness mm-hmm

but face always the danger when you

discover something new that you want to

talk with others well that's how we

ended up with this webcast because yes I

wanted to share it with them and

sometimes it works because sometimes the

other person is totally ready and

receptive and say wow I've never

realized I thought they recognized it

from within because says the radiance is

there right but the readies is not there

in everybody so some people buy copies

of the newest of the power of now for

their friends or relatives and then give

them out and sometimes they are

disappointed when the other person says

doesn't make sense to me at all it means

they're not yet ready and that's fine

maybe they put it on the shelf and maybe

ten years later they're ready quite

possible absolutely absolutely so now

for class number I wanted to get that

question out because it comes up over

and over and over again on our message

board so now we're ready for a classroom

before tonight we're going deeper into

identifying the ego in all of its forms

chapter four role-playing and the many

faces of our ego let me start by saying

that I think the essence it's a long

chapter so we have a lot to cover in a

short period of time these 90 minutes

but I think that the essence of this

chapter is what you say on page 104

everybody that you are a human being

what does that mean mastery of life is

not a question of control but of finding

a balance between human and being mother

father husband wife young old all roles

that you play the functions you fulfill

whatever you do all that belongs to the

human dimension it has its place and

needs to be honored but in itself it is

not enough

for a fulfilled truly meaningful

relationship or life human alone is

never enough no matter how hard you try

or what you achieve I just love that

sentence I loved it so much I wrote Wow

yeah where Wow human alone is never

enough no matter how hard you try or

what you achieve then there is being it

is found in the still alert presence of

consciousness itself the consciousness

that you are human is form being is form

less human and being are not separate

but into woven that's the essence to me

of this chapter

yes and one could say the essence of the

whole teaching in a way yes way of

putting it

so and of course human alone is never

enough no matter how hard you try or

what you achieve and that is the essence

of why people learn such suffering and

such struggle and such you know angst

against themselves in life is it not and

it's why they play roles because the ego

plays roles because there's an awareness

that within you there is the source of

all power so people who are out of touch

with the power within or the place where

all power resides the aliveness itself

consciousness itself then they feel a

sense of lack why are they not in touch

with it because they are not present

they are not in the present moment

because the present moment is the entry

point into that place of power within if

you're not present mm-hmm you don't

realize that there is a source of power

within and then you believe that you

need to get secondary power from someone

or some situation or other people then

you the ego plays roles to manipulate

the environment and other people to get

what it thinks it needs not realizing

that all the things that it thinks will

give it the power that it seems to lack

all that is already already within you

if you could only be present in the now

I got it

okay so the question is how not to lose

ourselves in the human dimension how not

to by being present in the now yes and

by realizing that whenever you lose

yourself relearn a human dimension in

the unit's all the stuff that's being

here that being human brings with it

yes the on the most primordial level

losing oneself means losing oneself in

that continuous stream of thinking that

go through people's heads so you it

drags you along it takes all your

conscious attention remember we started

today with taking attention away your

mind and putting it into the body right

another thing you can do is take

attention away from thinking and put it

into sense perceptions and really look

and listen and and touch things so like

a lot this arises you know what I found

by doing this I don't know about all the

rest of you but I have found by being

more present just doing that one

exercise putting yourself if I'm walking

along a path in the woods near my house

be there and not be you know in my head

thinking about what I need to do just to

be there and what I found is I don't

know if y'all are realizing this too you

are just less stressed they're stressed

or just less you're calmer yes and you

don't carry the heavy burden of of a

personality or me with a burden of past

and future my problematic future my

problematic past you know you're much

more your light and free when you walk

in in presence okay but my hairdresser

Andre asked me this this morning so I'm

gonna ask you then how do you ever plan

for anything if you're not thinking

about the future how do you ever get

anything done you plan in the present

moment when the time comes to plan and

the time is not when you're walking in

the woods and when you're walking in the

woods the time is to be present unless

you want to go to the woods to plan you

could go to the wood you could yes you

could but it's much more likely that

your planning is going to be fruitful if

if it is preceded by a period of

presence and stillness all right any

mind activity is much more likely to be

beneficial and to be creative if it's

preceded by presence and stillness and

then you apply the mind and say okay

what do I have to do to

day and then you make a list so if

you're going to be in in the future do

that as a concentrated event your

experience yes hey now I'm going to sit

and plan yes and John don't and then

about tomorrow once you've done that

then you know this is what I have to do

so that you're not continuously in the

next moment you don't project yourself

you play mental movies about what you're

going to say when that situation arises

mm-hmm

so you can you trust in life that

whatever it is that you need when the

future comes we'll be there uh-huh

so that's the well as far as practical

matters are concerned future is simply

something that you use like I call it

clock time you make an appointment for

tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow yes so you

don't continuously project yourself away

from the now right to some future

believing that it's more important going

to be more important and then now it's

not because what you say on page 122

anybody who is one with what he or she

does is building the new earth yes

that's how you do it being one with what

you're doing means being total in what

you do so that the main focus of your

attention is not where you want to get

to you know where you want to get to

right but the main focus of your

attention is on the actual doing now so

this is what yet the energy flows fully

into this the energy doesn't is not

diverted from what you're doing now

through mental dysfunction because

you're wanting to get there because then

whatever you're doing will be stressful

because whatever you give your 100%

attention to is going to be better

anyway yes absolutely

there was a Zen master he was he was

watching somebody in a competition

artery and a man was trying very hard to

win this competition but he just

couldn't make it and then somebody asked

the Zen master what's he doing wrong and

the Zen master said his need to win

drains him of power Wow and so it's Nita

wins of some future he wants to have

some

a moment where he's going to be

fulfilled so his attention is not

totally in the now so the now we're all

power resides Wow this power that

resides in the now cannot flow then into

what you're doing the openness isn't

there because to have mastery in any

endeavor whatever it is you me to be

total in what you do that's what

athletes now the great ones now fake and

then they when they enter that they call

it the zone yeah there was this great

article this week as a matter of fact

those of you saw it on Tiger Woods and

USA Today saying that he's perhaps the

greatest athlete of all times because

that's what he knows how to do is to

focus and be 100% present yes it's just

him in that ball I'm stupid yeah yeah of

course yes okay so another question that

was on the message boards a lot last

week when Kidada from California called

and was saying was on skype and she was

saying that as a young person she's

thinking about the future and thinking

about wanting to have a career and

husband and so forth I think a lot of

people felt but unsatisfied by your

response

I've heard that which a lot of people

were like I feel the same way Kidada

feels a lot of people are wondering

where the passion goes where the

ambition goes and how they relate

passion and ambition which is what I

think Kidada was saying okay with with

this this new awakening yes so did we

now just we're just also awakened and

that we become passive people know that

passion is much greater when you are

totally focused on what you're doing now

there will be far the passion will

become stress the more you're focused on

where you want to get to the more the

passion will degenerate into stress you

may still have a high energy but it's

there's a lot of negative energy that

comes in mm-hmm so if you want to remain

truly in your power then you need to be

total and that applies to the smallest

thing that you do during the day

right because even great endeavors

consist of small steps

even the greatest thing you are doing

wonderful work but every day that you

spent consist of small steps you arrive

in the studio you get dressed you get

ready you speak on one sentence at a

time it all consists of what needs to be

present as you are that's where the

power comes from every moment and not

look to some future moment which

promises some kind of greater

fulfillment that is the delusion it does

not mean that you don't have a plan you

can have plan you I want to achieve a

build to build up a business I want to

do this or that but the main focus must

be in the doing and if the main focus is

in the doing now that's the passion is

there and the deep enjoyment is there

and an intensity of energy an intensity

of energy all people often say then

again what the Zen master said that his

desire to hire tubing drains him of

power desire to win drains and is made

to win he trains him of power so the

right night would be being yeah it's

being present you just focused on

whatever is necessary in that moment in

that moment sure that struck a lot of

people that that Zen master quote yes

because you're so you got a win you got

to make it you got to succeed you gotta

gotta gotta and that's draining energy

from you instead we should be focused on

this moment this step and then the next

step and then the next step that's right

well you may win is if you try very hard

are very stressed occasionally it

happens that you do win but it's not

really worth it because you became more

depleted and after a while you lose the

enjoy lose the joy of life if you if you

spend five years of stress and finally

you achieve what you wanted is that

worth it right enjoyment is very

important am I losing and I is is that

joy in what I'm doing is there any

lifeless I mean intensity that's the

question

people believe sometimes high energy in

our civilization when there's high

energy in what you do

often people believe there must be

stress they cannot imagine

high-energy in what you do without

stress because that's how we are

conditioned because we are always

conditioned to look to the next thing

but there is a much more powerful state

of high energy and intensity if I say

when the energy is intense and focused

no no stress at all or stress at all

SOME LIKE IT HOT - movie review by Roberto Leoni Eng sub - Duration: 8:33.

there are fulminating lines in movies

like that of "Dirty" Harry Callahan "Go ahead, make my day"

or the famous one of the Godfather

"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse"

or that of Rossella O'Hara "Tomorrow is another day"

but there is a truly extraordinary line

which is the prototype of every comedy line

because it is very happy and incredible

it is said by Jack Lemmon while he is dressed as a woman

in the movie we will talk about today

that is Someone Like It Hot

the line is at the end of the movie when Jack Lemmon

disguised as a woman to escape the gangsters

goes by boat to the yacht of Osgood a billionaire

who stands next to him and who courts him

not having realized that he is not a woman but a man

and very embarassed Jack Lemmon says

to create distances and preparing the surprise

"Osgood, I'm gonna level with you. We can't get married at all.

I'm not a natural blonde"

and the old billionaire replies "Doesn't matter"

"I smoke! I smoke all the time!"

"I do not care" is the answer

"I can never have children!" "We can adopt some."

But you don't understand, Osgood! ...I'm a man!

"Well, nobody is perfect!"

and the film ends with this paradox and this laughter

on what I think is also a form of

extraordinary tolerance and extraordinary irony

this introduction serves just like a business card

for this incredible Billy Wilder movie

that is Some Like It Hot with an exceptional cast

Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe

that plays Sugar the flamboyant ukulele player

in the female orchestra where Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis

take refuge to escape the prototype of Al Capone

the gangster Spats Colombo

because they witnessed the Valentine's massacre

and they are the only witnesses that are sought by gangsters

the delightful adventure of these two unlucky musicians

with an entirely female orchestra where Marilyn Monroe

it's like the icecream the cake the prize the angel

the azure angel the blue angel the pink angel

she is all that represents the femininity

typical of American comedies that is, the blonde explosive

and a little 'feverish so tender and so pretty

that feels so experienced and so skilful and instead she is

ready to fall into the arms of the first cheater that happens

and in fact Tony Curtis

disguises himself as a fake millionaire and seduces her

the opportunity to talk about this film is

because it is reproposed in Venice 75 Classics

among the best restored films of all time

moreover, about a month ago was

the anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's death

and very soon will be Tony Curtis anniversary

then two great actors together with Jack Lemmon

it is an opportunity to re-propose this film

which is one of the most funniest comedies

most exhilarating ever done

elegant and sophisticated according to the Lubitsch style

that Billy Wilder, who was his student, has always appreciated

remember that Billy Wilder is an extraordinary director

father of noir and therefore has these two extremes

Double Indemnity or Sunset Blvd. and the comedies

Some Like It Hot, The Apartment

Irma la Douce, Arianna, Sabrina

masterpieces of comedy and lightness

the movie should have been a color film

but Billy Wilder was forced to make a black-and-white film

think that Marilyn Monroe had a contract

that she should have played all color films

but Billy Wilder managed to convince her

because the makeup of Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon

the heavy makeup to make them look woman

in color appeared greenish

and so he was forced to shoot in black and white

giving to the movie a tone of classic comedy

which was very famous in Lubitsch's movies

another very funny thing is that at the beginning

Billy Wilder wanted Jerry Lewis

to play the protagonist in place of Jack Lemmon

but Jerry Lewis refused

because he did not want to dress up as a woman

and as Jack Lemmon won an Oscar with this interpretation

every year he sent a box of chocolates to Jerry Lewis

at New Year's Eve or at Christmas

thanking him for not taking part in the movie

instead, when they asked Tony Curtis

what it was like to kiss Marilyn Monroe

that is, the Venus goddess in the male imaginary of the time

remember that for Billy Wilder later

Marilyn Monroe will play the extraordinary comedy

The Seven Year Itch reiterating the dream role

of every average American male and not only

Tony Curtis replied with little gallantry

that every time he kissed Marilyn Monroe

he would have preferred to kiss Hitler

because it was not at all such a heavenly thing

it was like kissing Hitler

actually this cruel joke

to which Marilyn Monroe replied "Worse for him"

in truth hid a form of gallantry

because there had been a love story between them

and Tony Curtis said this joke to avoid gossip

another feature of Billy Wilder is that

while exalting the sexy bomb that was Marilyn Monroe

both in this film and in The Seven Year Itch

yet he does not forget femininity

the deepest and most beautiful quality of a woman

and in other movies such as Sabrina

or Arianna or The Apartament or Irma, la Douce

he explores and changing the protagonist

and using Shirley McLaine or Audrey Hepburn

he brings out the most exquisite femininity

attention, tenderness and that typically feminine ability

that is being able to give love

that is being beyond any condition a dreamer but realistic

this very beautiful thing that women have

and that Billy Wilder very carefully enhances

just choosing two female characters two actresses

such as Audrey Hepburn grace and elegance

and Shirley McLaine's sympathy and a form of beauty

not striking but very suggestive

just in this way he enhances this feminine side

and this wonderful force of women

that beyond any condition and any conditioning

succeed in making their dream of love and their beauty triumph

thank you
