"FREE ME, oh brother mine" Welcome back Guardians.
Today I will be discussing the ending of Forsaken.
Specifically, who is Riven!?
I couldn't put that in the thumbnail or title because it is a spoiler, however, for
those who have completed the campaign, the main question is, Who is Riven?
Ishtar Colelctive, a website that collates Destiny's lore has a number of entries on
Riven, so we are going to take a look.
Riven's identity is truly amazing, exciting and everything I hoped to see in the lore.

This is myelin games and hope you enjoy this latest destiny 2 lore episode.
[INTRO] To understand Riven you need to make sure
you understand exactly what happened during the campaign.
So lets cover that.
You the Guardian is on a mission of revenge to find a kill Prince Uldren and his Barons
because Prince Uldren killed Cayde-6.
The Barons are revealed to be a corrupted version of the Fallen, known as the Scorn.
The Scorn's corruption is thought to be from the Darkness itself.
This is what the Spider says about it.
"Don't ask me to name my source, but a Guardian friend of mine is quite convinced
the Scorn's Ether was corrupted by Darkness itself.
Just what your little bauble needs if it's to get you to the Dreaming City, isn't it?"
– The Spider.
After defeating the seven Barons, you pursue the Fanatic and Uldren into the Watchtower;
the Gateway to the Awoken Homeland, the Dreaming City.
Within the Watchtower you transition between two realities, bouncing back and fourth between
the Ascendant Plane.
You ghost says, "The line between dimensional planes is
thin here" The Ascendant Plane is typically associated
with the Hive.
The Reverie Dawn Gauntlets lore tab describes the ascendant plane is the space between throne
worlds.
It reads, "She travels across the Ascendant Plane…
Here in the emptiness between throne worlds, she has nothing but what she can carry."
A throne world is typically created by an ascendant Hive, when they become so powerful
they are able to create another reality where their true soul lives.
You can only kill an ascendant Hive by entering their throne world and destroying them.

the intricate details of throne worlds.
So the ascendant plane seems to be the reality that houses the Throne worlds.
It is revealed that Prince Uldren is trying to release whatever is trapped in the Ascendant
Plane, and to do so, he uses a shard from the Traveler, i.e. the Light, and combines
it with his own Darkness, to let whatever is inside free.
It is this scene that reinforces that, like the Scorn, Uldren is corrupted by the Darkness
itself, and considering the Scorn call Uldren Father, I assume Uldren was the first to be
corrupted by the Darkness, and potentially he was involved somehow in the Scorn's corruption.
The entire campaign up until this point, has been implying that Prince Uldren has been
hallucinating the conversations with his sister, Queen Mara Sov, and the final scene confirms
that the Mara Sov Prince Uldren is seeing, is not really a hallucination but rather the
Voice of Riven speaking with him.
Prince Uldren uses both light and dark to open the portal and the Mara Sov image changes
into a Chimera known as the Voice of Riven.
It seems that the Voice of Riven used both the Darkness and Uldren's love for his sister
to manipulate uldren into releasing it.
After destroying the Voice of Riven, and saving Uldren, only to put a bullet in him, Petra
Venj requests your help to clear the Taken from the Dreaming City, and what we assume
will be the true boss, Riven.
After entering the Dreaming City, and powering an Oracle Engine, which is described as a
machine that allowed the Queen to walk between realities, similar to the Hive and their throne
worlds, we do in fact make contact with the Real Mara Sov, who had used the Oracle Engine
to access another reality.
At this stage, we do not really know where Mara Sov is, however is it revealed in the
new lore entry tilted, Throne, that Mara Sov created her own throne world.
And we assume that in her death when fighting Oryx, she retreated to her throne world, surviving.
After making contact with Mara Sov using the Oracle Engine, Mara Sov confirms our suspicion
that Riven caused Prince Uldren's corruption and delusions.
"Of course.
He – his soul was corrupted by the Taken.
He suffered from delusions, which I now believe were caused by – Riven".
However, in the very next sentence, Riven is described as a loved one, and assumed to
be a previous ally of the Awoken, and the reason that Riven is now an enemy, is because
Riven has been Taken.
So, who or what is Riven?
One of the greatest clues is actually said in game, as you travel between the ascendant
plane, fake Mara Sov, which we now know to be Riven says this
"FREE ME, oh brother mine" This is a massive clue that Riven is an Ahamkara.
Within Destiny's lore, the Ahamkara use this phrase.
For example, in the Skull of Dire Ahamkara, it reads, "O Bearer mine".
The young ahamkara's spine says that the Ahamkara loved the phrase, "O Seeker mine".
So the fact that Riven says, O Brother mine, is highly suggestive that Riven is an Ahamkara.
Even with this clue, we can go one step further, with Forsaken, many more lore entries were
released, and Riven is mentioned.
The lore entry , Telic II from the Book, The Awoken of the Reef, straight out confirms
Riven as an Ahamkara.
It reads, It was Mara alone who established a covenant
with that young Ahamkara, which chose the use-name Riven, in honor of its host.
Riven would also be confirmed as an Ahamkara in the Forsaken lore entries Throne and Riven
from the Book The Dreaming City.
The most amazing revelation about the Ahamkara, is that they are shape-shifters, they can
change their appearance.
Have a listen to the Throne entry.
It reads, There, Lissyl and Sedia augured the first
borehole with the help of Riven, who had taken the shape of a needle-nosed basilisk
Then later in the entry it reads, Riven, now an immense antlered serpent with
broad tiger paws, tightened around the perimeter of the room like a noose.
And in the Riven lore entry, Riven is described as having wings.
The other really exciting aspect about Riven is that Riven also assisted Mara Sov in building
her throne world.
Have a listen to the Throne lore entry from the Book, the Dreaming city.
It reads, And as the coven contemplated the possibilities
laid wide before this god-king's far-flung sword, it was decreed that they would build
a throne world beneath an energy well as blind as the ferryman Charon.
Nascia drew the schematics.
Portia worked out the calculations.
They made their first test with a small rift generator on the eastern shore.
Satisfied that their methods were sound, they then went to a grand cathedral to dig the
well.
There, Lissyl and Sedia augured the first borehole with the help of Riven, who had taken
the shape of a needle-nosed basilisk, while Kalli and Shuro Chi constructed the gate itself,
deep below, in a hall they named "The Confluence."
I assume the well mentioned in this lore entry is a reference to the Blind Well in the Dreaming
City, so by the looks of it, the Queen's throne world is beneath the blind well in
the Dreaming City!
Lastly, if Riven was Taken, and Riven is no longer an ally, who know controls Riven.
Well, the lore entries seem to answer that too.
The Reverie Dawn Bond reads And Riven—
She used to sit in the shade of those wings.
Laugh at the riddles that rumbled in that mercurial throat.
This creature is all teeth and broken promises, transformed by the expectations of another
scheming, secretive sister.
Scheming and secretive sister, is likely a reference to Oryx's sister, Savathun.
Sooo, putting all this together, the Forsaken Raid is called Last Wish, Ahamkara are also
called Wish Dragons, Riven is a shape shifting Ahamkara that has been taken by Savathun,
and influence Prince Uldren.
All signs seem to point to encountering Riven, a Taken shape shifting Ahamkara in the next
Raid!
Which would be amazing.
