Weekly Entertainment Wrap Up #88 / BookNet Fest Haul [CC] - Duration: 5:25.

Hi, YouTube, it's Kathy, and I'm here in sunny and humid as hell Florida because I was just

at BookNet Fest, which means I didn't actually read and watch all whole hell of a lot this week.

But we're gonna talk about it anyway.

Before I get into the few things I managed to consume this week, I want to tell you about

a few things I picked up at BookNet Fest.

When we arrived for the Meet and Greet, we actually were given the option to pick up

one of two ARCs, so I picked up this one.

I've heard good things from other people that have also recently picked up the ARC.

I also put on fake nails for the first time, and let me tell you - it's been an experience.

They haven't fallen off yet, though.

I'm pretty proud of myself.

I also ended up with the other ARC they were giving away, which is a Patrick Ness ARC,

and this one's pretty short.

I also think it has illustrations in it...

Yeah, a few, so I'm looking forward to getting to that.

And then there was a mystery book swap, so you wrapped up a book, wrote something on

it about what the book was about, or in my case, I literally just wrote "murder?"

And then, you would give a book, you'd get a book, and the one I ended up picking up

was Soulless, so again, looking forward to getting into this.

I also picked up a number of beautiful bookmarks, including this incredibly clever one by my

friends, the Tea Hags, that actually have a tea tag on them, and they're just so cute.

I love them so much.

And then, because I was a panelist, I stole my little placard because this is going on

my wall when i get home.

We also went to a couple of bookstores today.

I didn't pick anything up because I am only traveling with carry on luggage, so I do not

have any space for any more books, quite sadly, but it was really fun.

Before I move into what I actually consumed, I just want to say I really loved this experience,

and thank you so much to Mari and Sam for putting this on.

I'm already counting down the days until we do it again next year.

As for what I read, watched, and listened to, I managed to read 2 books, I watched 2

movies, and I didn't actually finish my audiobook this week because I was a little bit busy,

but I'll finish it for next week.

The first book was Calling on Dragons, which is the 3rd in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles,

and again, it's the 3rd in a series, so there's not much I can say about it besides I am still

absolutely loving this series.

It's completely wonderful, and I recently found out - I think i mentioned this already

- that the series is actually done with a full cast narration, so I'm actually listening

to the 4th book right now.

There's a very big twist at the end of the 3rd book, so I was very happy that I had access

to the 4th book immediately because I need to know what happens.

The other book I read was called That's Not What Happened.

I actually picked this one up as an ARC from work, and it came out quite recently so I

saw it in one of the stores we were in today.

This one was about a group of a characters who are survivors of a school shooting, and

obviously it is very triggering.

There are a lot of very deep things that go into it, and I highly enjoyed it.

I actually read this one mostly on the plane to Atlanta, to get to where I am now in Florida,

and I really enjoyed the format.

Basically, it's written as one very long letter with other people's letters added in to give

context to the story.

The main character of the story is a survivor whose best friend actually died in the shooting,

and she finds out that her best friend's parents are actually writing a memoir about her but

there's this story that's been going around since the shooting that is just completely

false, and she doesn't know how it started, and she hasn't worked up the courage to tell

them that it's false.

So this is basically all abut her and the other survivors coming together to tell what

actually happened and figuring out why it's important that everybody know their side of the story.

I didn't know anything about this book when I picked it up.

I just really enjoyed the title and the cover looked good.

Enjoy is not exactly the perfect word for this book, but I enjoyed my reading experience

and I found the writing really good.

On to the things I watched this week.

Before I left for Orlando, I watched To All The Boys I've Loved Before, and yes, it is

freaking adorable.

Obviously there's some change.

I could have done with this movie being longer and having more of the scenes between Peter

and Lara-Jean, but that's just me, It was adorable; really enjoyed it.

I was also visually stunning.

There's a little bit of actor cross over into the second movie that I watched because the

guy who plays Peter Kavinsky was also in Sierra Burgess is a Loser, and unfortunately, this

movie was an absolute dumpster fire.

What even?

What is that?

It looks like this bug has two heads, like, one at each end.

I don't - I don't know what it is.

Anyway.

Florida, you're weird.

Initially my entire room that I was staying with at BookNet Fest was very excited for

this movie because Shannon Purser.

That's all I knew about this movie is Shannon Purser, and I really enjoy her as an actress.

Unfortunately, the writing of this movie was absolute crap.

And I honestly just don't even have the energy to rant about it again, but we did record

a video yesterday of us all ranting about it, and that's going to go up on The Princess

and the Scrivener's channel eventually, so when it does, be sure to check it out.

I'll also link it down when it goes up, if I remember to do so.

But essentially, if I had been watching this movie by myself, I would have turned it off

about 5 minutes in when the first transphobic joke happened.

There's also mocking of people with disabilities, there's consent issues.

Just - it was garbage and, no.

I'm sorry, Shannon Purser deserves better than this.

Alright, well it's hot as hell out here, and somebody's AC unit keeps kicking in, so that's

a fun sound to have in the background, so I'm gonna keep this one nice and short this week.
