Alright people!
It's time for another wonderful "ask Franz" video.
You always eagerly send us questions for the "ask Franz" videos
like expected and Lars has picked some questions.
For the ones that watch this for the first time:
We do this really spontaneously. He picks the questions and sends them to me via WhatsApp.
I basically see them for the first time now. Believe it or not, it is that way.
And I will try to answer them to the best of my belief and as well as possible for you. Where's the first question?
Ok!
Question number one:
How about a M50 B28 turbo conversion?
That's the 325i engine.
Definitely a good project but
we wouldn't do it. I know that many people do it but
that's not our clientele.
There are several companies that specialize in doing that.
The conversion is also not difficult. You take a freely programmable control unit,
you can then finetune it pretty well
but it's not really our cup of tea, we won't do it.
Next question: Max Wolf -
How about the current laws concerning valve controlled exhaust systems for cars.
How about "TÜV"? There have been law changes.
Are car manufactureres still allowed to mount the well known "sports button" that controls the exhaust valves?
I can tell you:
I've just recently tested the new Mercedes C63S coupé and the sedan.
Link to the test somewhere here.
It was a 2018 car, the very new model and it had the exhaust button.
The button to manually open the exhaust valve.
It could be that the EWG control,
the EWG valve controlled exhaust system has to be closed betwenn 40 and 50 or 50 and 60 km/h.
It could be that it closed the valve at that point but I did not pay attention to it.
So the answer is: Yes, the button is still there, as well as in the Porsche 991 GT3 for example.
Alright, let's continue.
Patrick Klemm: Why is an engine map optimization for some diesel vehicles, maybe also petrol vehicles,
such a problem when driving with heavy trailers weighing two tons.
There' s no problem. Why do you think that?
No problem.
No, that's it.
Vladislav Sinkowski:
Hi Franz, I'd like to know if you have already programmed an Audi S5, 3.0
and how much power you can get out of it.
Everyone states different figures from 30 to 100 hp and I'd like to hear your opinion.
We have tuned several of them already, S5, S4, 3.0 litre TFSI, they all are the same engines, just a different base power output.
Your car has 333 hp and with a stage 1 tune you can easily achieve 400 hp.
They are really well tunable, especially rewarding because of the supercharger.
You can go up to 420, 430 hp,
with a downpipe and everything.
When you want to go higher than that you need to change the supercharger wheel in order to make 450, 460 hp.
Leo... Leo G:
Audi TTRS 8J or RS3 8P?
Stick shift or DSG and why?
If you want to be fast, definitely go for the DSG.
For more fun, take the manual transmission.
I would most probably take the TTRS
even though it's basically the same car.
Oh, wrong one. Let's continue.
Hey Franz, can you also tune a BMW E46 330CI M54 B30 with an exhaust header, racing cats and probably sharp camshaft?
If yes, how much does it cost and how much hp and Nm can you expect from a laborious naturally aspirated engine tuning?
Ok, first of all: Please always send me enquiries like that via e-mail because we can't read all of the comments.
I unfortunately don't offer anything for a normal E46 besides the S54 M3.
I don't offer anything, I never have, so I can unfortunately not help with that.
Like you already said: the tuning of naturally aspirated engines is really laborious and has to be developed
We have already had a few E46 M3 costumers with a CSL box and Alpha N optimization, we do that but unfortunately not the normal E46s.
Have you already tuned a Ford Focus RS Mk 3, the engine is said to be not too optimal, where do you see the performance limit? Greetings from Swabia.
Yes we have.
The turbocharger is not optimal. Around 360 hp, maybe 370 hp is the very limit in my opinion.
More than that...
is not possible. My opinion.
Mr. Nicoson, good question!
Why do so many people buy a BMW E92 M3, allthough the tuning potential is a lot bigger with the 335i and the M3 stock performance is a lot worse than stated.
Because M is M. You can't compare the M3 to the 335.
Of course, the 335 is faster but an E92 M3...
A: the sound - V8.
B: the way the car drives, the way it steers, the way it looks. You can't compare it.
M is M!
TheLyke: When...
The name rings a bell. You comment a lot, is that correct?
When will you put sunglasses and stickers back in the shop and will there be new pullovers in winter in bigger sizes?
Yes, new clothes are in the making and will be available at the Essen Motorshow for example.
Where we will be too.
Jannik Wahnemünde: Morning Franz! If you were able to design or build your own engine, what would it be like?
That is a difficult topic, it would probably be a V8 biturbo.
Yeah, probably a V8 biturbo because for me they are the
most stable engines with which you can go for a lot of power.
And especially in the lower rpm ranges, V8 biturbo, that's my thing I believe.
Andreas Bernd: Morning Simon, how about mopeds? Are you interested in motorbike projects? Greetings, Andi.
Yes, but BMW only.
We have recently tuned a S1000R.
With an engine map optimization you can expect 18 to 20 hp.
200 more rpm and there are several torque restrictions that you can remove so the thing becomes even quicker.
Our customer that drives the moped said that he got scared of it because it's so quick now.
Alright, that's it.
One more thing which is near and dear to me, the questions are done.
I made a video together with Sophia Calate and Olli/83metoo or we actually did several things together already.
There was a video with the G-class, you can find it here and it has gotten a lot of hate which I find unfortunate.
We just did it for fun.
We were at a Mercedes press event together and
I wanted to drive the G-class and make a video, so I said: "Ok, hop in, let's do it together, that's going to be fun for sure."
Unfortunately people didn't like it that much.
A few mean comments as well one has to say. You can't like everything and everyone.
You don't have to do that. It won't be that way that you'll only see other things or people from now on.
No, we didn't do it for any clickbaits either or anything like that, we just get along well and I think you shouldn't always work against each other.
We just thought, why not make a video? Why not? Why not?
So that's the background to it.
Please no more mean comments in the future because it was nasty.
Not towards me,
but towards the others. They both are nice and friendly people and they do their thing.
Everyone does their own thing.
They have their style.
Olli makes videos about car wash and car care and how to polish it and keep it clean and Sophia does more lifestyle.
You don't have to like it.
But we get along well with each other.
That's it from me.
The next FragFranz will be released in two weeks. Please eagerly write comments.
Really important: You have to activate the bell I've heard by chance.
If you don't activate the bell you won't get any notifications for when I upload videos,
so you won't know when something new happens.
That's it from me. Subscribe, like, share and see you next time!
