Hello! In today's video we are going to make
this polymer clay pendant with a technique that mimics the patchwork
technique called log cabin. We will use these three colors that you see on
screen: orange is eight parts yellow , one quarter
red and a quarter white. Violet is two parts blue, two and
a half white, one and a half red and a sixteenth part yellow, and
cyan is four parts blue, two parts white and an eighth yellow. To
measure these amounts you will have to use a sheet of the same thickness of
each color and cookie cutters of any shape, for example circle
start with the color orange and make a gradient sheet
cut the way you see on screen, it does not have to be
too regular
so we create a central orange triangle without tip and
two white side triangles
Again, it is not necessary that these triangles are perfect
in the same way we are going to make a violet, white and cyan gradient with
our pasta machine. If you want to know how to make the gradient in polymer clay
I leave the link to the video where I explain how to do it in the descriptionbox
and on the card. These are our two finished gradient sheets
now cut thin strips about 4 mm
wide of each of these two gradients
so that in each of the strips you see all the full colors
and now start forming your log cabin following this scheme that you see on
screen in patchwork this is a technique that
is made using different color fabrics and patterns but in this case
We are going to imitate it with our two gradients, a light and a
dark one
start with a 4 mm blue square
place a strip on top of your orange gradient
and cut as you see in the image
so that you have another 4 millimeters by the side. Now place
another orange strip, cut the same way and continue
adding strips according to the scheme. I am not measuring to
cut the strips, since it is easy to eyeball it, but you have to try to get
as regular lines as possible
continue cutting and adding the strips
according to the scheme
and insert the color gradients clear and dark to create your motive
continue completing the spiral until you have a square of the desired size
Now place some baking paper on top
and burnish gently with a card
so that you remove the seams between the different strips but without
pressing too much not to distort the pattern
continue burnishing until it is completely smooth
now pass through your pasta machine with this texture sheet
without varying too much the thickness of your sheet not to distort the
pattern and put the leftovers of your orange
gradient with some texture at the back
cut with a cookie cutter of your liking, trying to
center the pattern on the pendant and cut the excess clay
as you're not going to sand try to leave it as regular as possible
and now place the pendant on a curved surface to bake
for example this bowl. It has to be a material that can be put in the oven
such as glass or metal as in this case. Press well
to adhere it to the surface
and texture again
and now it's time to bake according to the temperature and time
indicated by the manufacturer of the brand of clay that you are using
once baked this is how our log cabin pendant looks, simply
I have glue a bail at the back and a
buna cord. I hope that you like this tutorial and that you give it
a try. Here you have the link to two other videos on my channel
