Yes, there's nothing more iconically American than the red-white-and blue label of a can
of Bud.
How American is it?
Budweiser was even briefly renamed "America."
But how much do you actually know about the King of beers?
Here's a surprising look at the untold truth of Budweiser.
It's not actually American
Don't tell George Washington, but it turns out Budweiser isn't actually American at all.
Nope!
Originally known as the Bavarian Brewery when it was founded in 1852, the company was acquired
by German-born soap-maker Eberhard Anheuser in 1860.
In 1869, his German-born son-in-law, Adolphus Busch, bought half the company, and Anheuser-Busch
was born.
In the 1870's, while on a trip to Europe, Busch discovered a beer called Budweiser,
brewed in the city of Budweis in what is now the Czech Republic.
Inspired, he decided to make his own Bavarian lager, which he gave the highly original name...
Budweiser.
That name theft led to decades of legal disputes which have only settled down recently, as
the Belgian company In-Bev purchased Anheuser-Busch in 2008, and the Czech Budweiser Budvar Brewery
in 2011.
So maybe they should name their next beer…
Belgium?
Trust the process
Adolphus Busch innovated a number of revolutionary ideas, including bottling beer, pasteurizing
it, and refrigerating it so it could be shipped fresh long distances.
And he also made the beer actually drinkable.
William Knoedelseder, the author of Bitter Brew: The Rise and Fall of Anheuser-Busch
and America's King of Beer, told NPR that previously, the beer at the brewery was
"[... so bad that] people would spit it back across the bar at bartenders."
"Bitter beer face!"
These days, Anheuser-Busch uses a couple of special ingredients to make sure all their
beer tastes the same no matter where it's manufactured or purchased.
The secret to consistency across the brand and all 12 United States AB InBev breweries
is that they all use the same yeast, derived from the same culture originally used by Adolphus
Busch in the first batch of beer he brewed in the 1850s.
And their other secret ingredient?
Strangely enough, it's rice.
Budweiser says it gives their beer, quote, "a crisp taste and smooth finish", but critics
of the brand claim that the company uses that as an excuse to dilute the beer because rice
is cheaper to use than malted barley.
Prohibition pro tip
After selling alcohol was made illegal in America in 1920, most breweries went out of
business.
But Anheuser-Busch managed to stay afloat, and even prosper, thanks to a genius idea
by Augustus Busch's son, August Anheuser-Busch.
He realized that while it was illegal to sell beer, it wasn't illegal to sell the ingredients.
So Anheuser-Busch began selling their yeast and other ingredients to home brewers desperate
for a taste of banned beer.
"Give me a keg of beer!"
Not only did it keep the company afloat, when Prohibition ended, Anheuser-Busch was in position
to take over the industry, as most of their competitors had been wiped out.
Horsing around
We're all familiar with the bastions of the Budweiser marketing department: the Clydesdale
horses.
But did you know that it takes a lot for a horse to actually become a Budweiser Clydesdale?
Yes, there's an "interview process."
The Budweiser Clydesdales have been a tradition since 1933 when August and Adolphus Busch
Jr. surprised their father with a six-horse Clydesdale hitch.
These days, Budweiser breeds the Clydesdale horses and has about 175 in their collection.
According to Warm Springs Ranch in Missouri, the home of the Budweiser Clydesdales, chosen
animals must be aesthetically consistent:
"They must stand at least 18 hands high (or 6 feet tall).
They must be geldings and at least 4 years old.
They must have a bay coat, four white stockings, a blaze of white on the face, a black mane
and a black tail.
And they must weigh between 1,800 and 2,300 pounds."
All in the family
It may be known as the King of Beers, but these days, Budweiser is a pretender to the
throne, as it's only the fourth best selling beer in America.
Don't cry for In-Bev, though, because they're keeping it all in the family, as Budweiser's
upstart younger sibling Bud Light is now America's #1 beer of choice.

Light beers in general are on the upswing, with Coors Light at #2, and Miller Lite at
#3.
But it's craft beer loving Millennials that pose the biggest threat to Budweiser: in 2014,
the craft beer industry as a whole outsold Budwesier for the first time, while Anheuser-Busch
revealed that according to their research, 44 percent of 21-27 year old drinkers have
never even tried Budweiser.
Yikes!
Budweiser the video game
In 1983, arcades and bars across the country were introduced to the new hit game Tapper,
which put players in the role of a bartender desperately trying to keep up with the insane
demand for Budweiser beer.
Sporting a Budweiser logo, the game was sponsored by Anheuser-Busch as some sneaky viral marketing.
It turned out to be a little too sneaky, though, and the game had to be rebranded Root Beer
Tapper in 1984, because the original version was considered to be advertising alcohol to
minors.
There's a bright side, though, as the kid friendly version has lived on in pop culture
to this day.

Super Mario Party ANALYSIS - In-Depth Classic Board Mode Gameplay! (Secrets & Old-school Mechanics!) - Duration: 8:06.
Super Mario Party is releases in about a month, and Nintendo has shied away from showing a
game in full.
Until now, that is.
Nintendo's official Japanese YouTube channel showcased a full round on the ruins board,
not avoiding any events in the process.
The comedy duo Yoiko has given us the best look at the title so far.
The result is something that feels closer to the more classic games than the previous
couple of outings.
For starters, we get a look at all of the characters that are playable.
In demos for Super Mario Party at Gamescom and PAX, four characters remained locked.
In one shot of the footage, however, it does seem that they are given away in full.
The characters in question here are Pom Pom, Dry Bones, Diddy Kong and Donkey Kong.
This might be hard to believe, but this is Diddy Kong's first playable appearance in
a console Mario Party game.
The little chimp was, before this point, only playable in Star Rush for the Nintendo 3DS.
For Pom Pom, this is her first time in the series.
She even has a 1UP on her partner Boom Boom!
After the characters are chosen, the players end up in a plaza of some sort.
At least, we think.
The way the footage is cut up, you seem to move to the plaza after selecting the characters.
A series' first if so.
In either case, we do a couple of familiar elements within the plaza.
You will see Thwomp board, River Survival and Mariothon in the Free Play mode.
One thing that we don't directly see is the co-op mode, which retains the grid board
feel of Star Rush.
This could be the first option as the lack of events on the image does line up nicely.
The fourth option, is, however, the bigger mystery.
The closest thing it reminded us of was the look of the rhythm game of Star Rush, but
there aren't any minigames shown in the image.
Could this be larger than before?
The possibility is certainly there.
At the end of the gameplay demo, a rhythm game is shown, adding credit to the idea.
This isn't something that is expanded on however.
As we head into the plaza, the mode we are entering is described as the Mario Party mode.
It isn't hard to see why.
The board follows the more basic structure of hopping from space to space.
Next to this, it is filled to the brim with events, which are certainly worth exploring.
You have your standard Blue and Red spaces, which will add and subtract coins as you land
on them.
Normally, this will be three coins, but at the end it will be dialed up to six.
A major return is here for the Happening Spaces, which bring back the feeling of proper board
events.
Some change the location of Thwomps.
You have to pay three coins to normally pass, but this skips that step entirely.
Another slew brings down a rock that chases you down the board.
The final ones, though that is more implied, seem to bring you up to three chests where
you play a game to earn something.
What that is, we don't exactly know right now.
The same goes for the VS space, which we simply have no clue on.
There are more modern wrinkles as well.
The Lucky and Bad Luck spaces, found in the more recent Mario Party game, seem to make
a return.
They weren't actively showcased, but they seem similar to their previous appearances.
It will earn or lose you coins and stars, which seem more critical as the board is smaller
in size.
The Ally Spaces make a return as well.
It is here that a roulette wheel will start to spin, and adds a buddy to your party.
This will give you access to their dice block, which we will get into in just a moment.
Next to the Star spaces, the most strategic opportunities come from the item spaces.
This give you the chance to stay ahead of the curve.
While most their return, there are a few newcomers that are absolutely worth highlighting.
One of them is the Golden Pipe.
If you remember the Genie or the Flutter items in previous game, you will be pretty aware
of its effects.
The Golden Pipe will place you before the Star space, allowing you to start your turn
right there.
With the stars being relatively cheap, they are only 10 coins, you will find yourself
taking the gamble quicker.
Another important item is the Buddy Phone.
This will instantly give you a character that join you, together with his or her Dice Block.
Please keep in mind that you won't able to choose to join you, unlike the Ally space.
The final one I want to highlight is the Fly Guy Ticket.
This is the item that allows you to steal items from other players.
You can choose your target, or let the computer make a pick for you.
Speaking of picking, that was what new pass by board events make possible.
If you have enough coins on you, you can pass by Flutter's shop and buy a specific item
you need right there.
None of the prices are really all that harsh.
A Golden Dash Mushroom is for an example 5 coins, while a Golden Pipe puts you back 10.
The second type of pass by events are Lakitu's.
With his help, you will be able to steal coins for free or get a Star for 30 coins.
if you liked to rely on Boo, you could consider this your second home.
Last but not least, we have a Paratrooper who will carry to an opponent's space for
measly 5 coins.
Keep your friends close, but your rivals even closer.
The last important factor about guiding yourself through the boards are the dice rolls.
These act in a very similar fashion to Star Rush on the Nintendo 3DS.
You have the option between your standard dice or a character specific one.
The character ones come with bigger risks, but that is great if you are up for a gamble.
Take Bowser's dice for instance, you could run the risk of losing three coins, but on
the other hand, you could also get a 8, 9 or 10 roll.
As you stack allies, your options will increase and the chance for big rolls become feasible.
Shy Guy's dice can be considered a very safe pair of hands for your party.
Most of his sides contain the number four, ensuring that you move that bit faster around
the board.
The game is about getting stars, getting a rag tag team together and staying ahead of
the curve.
This becomes important as you inch closer to the final moments of the game.
It is here that the scores are tallied, and two additional Bonus Stars are given.
During the gameplay demo, the stars were the most helpful allies as well as the usual Happening
Star.
These can be the ultimate make or break moments of the game, though in the gameplay demo's
instance, it was already decided way beforehand.
After the game wraps, you can see the usual graphs and stats so you can compare the journey
between players.
At the end of every turn, minigames are played.
This is as old as time itself, but the pure inventiveness of the minigames shown can't
be understated.
Most of them make excellent usage of the singular Joy-Con controls too.
During the gameplay demo, 13 new minigames were shown.
Either in part or in full.
Let's run down them…
This free-for-all minigame sees you throwing colored balls in the mouths of Cheep Cheep
robots.
In this 2-vs-2 game, you will have make patterns with a piece of string attached to you.
Within the following 1-vs-3 minigame, you will be hitting objects in a ring.
These objects, placed in a diamond format, must be hit to score points.
You will need 20 total.
The lone player is in the middle of diamond, while the three are outside of it.
It is all about bombs in this game.
You will throw them around in a group of ten characters.
If the bomb explodes when you have it, you are out of the game.
This game takes three rounds to complete.
This free-for-all sees you pumping water to get it to the highest spot possible.
A soccer game for teams of two.
Just like the bomb game, more CPU players are being added.
Speaking of bombs, in this 1-vs-3 game, you try to land bombs on your opponent's field.
Each player carries a racket, but the one for the solo player is extra large.
There is this adorable free-for-all game where you have to grab pancakes and bring them to
your plate.
Normal ones net you one point, while star crested ones give you three.
Another free-for-all, but this is time it is all about banana peels.
You have to get yourself through a maze filled of them and make your way to the middle.
It is where a big stack of fruit awaits the winner.
More fruit in this 2-vs-2 game as you move around a cursor and line up the fruit icons
on the playing field.
In the last team based minigame, 2-vs-2 once again, Joy-Con will have to be moved into
position.
Two blocks will have to fit on top of each other.
This needs to be done three times to win.
More Joy-Con motion action in this free-for-all game.
You have to move the Joy-Con up and down to get a character into focus.
Once again, this needs to be done three times.
Depending on your ranking, you will get 5, 3, 1 or 0 points per round.
Finally, in the following free-for-all minigame, you will hold L or R and climb yourself up
to the end goal.
While that is all the major things we wanted to point out, there are a few more things
worth mentioning.
The animations for the characters are some of the best we've seen in the series.
Everything from a high five to the reactions of somebody getting a star, it is quite an
incredible display of detail.
At the end of the video, next to the rhythm game we mentioned, they are teasing a look
at the dedicated 2-vs-2 modes in Super Mario Party.
This images showcased of a Baseball game, which gives us a weird Wii Party U give.
That is all we have to say Super Mario Party.
It is shaping up to be surprisingly fun game with things that will make old Mario Party
fans happy.
If the game turns a leaf for a series, that remains to be seen of course, but there is
a solid hope behind it.
The minigames look varied, and the various ways to play make for an unique package.

Why These Weird Carnivores Smell Like Popcorn - Duration: 3:32.

Wander through the forests of southeast Asia, and you might suddenly wonder if there's a movie theatre nearby.
That's because parts of Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia are home to the binturong
— a cat-like carnivore with pee that smells like buttered popcorn.
Yum?
Binturongs—or bearcats as they're sometimes called, though they aren't closely related to bears or cats
— like to hang out high in the trees of dense forests where they can avoid ground-dwelling predators while they snack on fruit, insects, small rodents, or leaves.
They're covered in shaggy, black fur with long, goofy tufts behind their ears,
and they have grasping or prehensile tails which they use to clamber along branches.
But probably their most distinctive feature is their popcorn-y smell — which mostly comes from the urine they use to mark their territories.
They leave scent marks by squatting and spraying urine onto their legs and bushy tail and then rubbing those onto nearby branches.
They can also use a specialized gland near their anus called the perineal gland for this,
but researchers think the scents released from there are different and less appetizing.
The tasty smell of their pee is thanks to a chemical is called 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, or just 2-AP for short.
It's an organic heterocyclic aroma compound and an imine,
which is basically just a fancy chemistry way of saying it's a chemical that has a smell, contains carbon atoms,
has a circular structure made from multiple elements, and there's a double bond a with a nitrogen atom thrown in somewhere.
In popcorn, 2-AP forms when high heat causes a reaction between the kernel's sugars and amino acids
— a chemical process known as the Maillard reaction.
But binturongs aren't exactly caramelizing their pee, so biologists aren't sure how they make it,
though they think bacteria in the gut or near the urethral opening might be involved.
It's also possible other compounds contribute to the buttery aroma,
but when researchers identified a bunch of different components of binturong urine in 2016, 2-AP was the only one found in all of the samples.
And it hung around at room temperature, meaning it would probably also hang around for a while on a tree.
What's really interesting, though, is that male binturong urine had a lot more 2-AP than female urine.
And researchers were able to link the level of 2-AP in an animal's urine to the amount
of the sex hormone androstenedione swishing around in their blood.
Males have more of this hormone in their blood than females overall, but levels of it increase
in females when they're in heat — right when they're most fertile.
That means other binturongs might be able to tell whether there's a territorial male
or a female ready for mating nearby — all from how popcorn-y the branch they're scurrying on smells!
And while knowing what's behind the binturong's unique buttery smell is pretty cool all by itself,
it might also be kind of important because binturong populations have declined more than 30% over the last couple of decades.
So if 2-AP puts these vulnerable animals in the mood or signals when a female is fertile,
it could help conservationists breed them in captivity.
And that could help ensure these wonderfully weird animals keep forests smelling like popcorn for centuries to come.

Celebs Who Made Fools Of Themselves At Awards Shows - Duration: 5:29.
An annual awards show offers a chance for celebrities to promote themselves and get
congratulated for a job well done.
All they have to do is stand there, look pretty, and say thanks when another pretty person
hands them a trophy, or as they hand a trophy to somebody else.
Sometimes, that's apparently too much to handle, and a few stars have cracked under the pressure
and made fools of themselves while the world watched on TV.
Here are some of the biggest awards show fails of all time.
Sam Smith
He may have a comically generic name, but Sam Smith is also an Oscar winner, having
won Best Original Song for "Writing's on the Wall" from the 2015 James Bond film Spectre.
However, Smith's acceptance speech may forever overshadow the song's critical and commercial
success.
During the speech, the openly gay Smith dedicated his win to the LGBTQ community, saying,
"I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen, and he said that no openly gay
man had ever won an Oscar."
Smith's message is inspiring, even if his pretense was faulty.
The article he referenced featured Ian McKellen lamenting how no openly gay man had ever specifically
won the Best Actor Oscar.
Whoops.
Other gay men actually have won Hollywood's biggest prize, such as Elton John for Best
Original Song and Dustin Lance Black for Original Screenplay.
Smith soon tweeted an apology,
"Second openly gay man to win an oscar or third or fourth or 100th, It wasn't my point."
Faith Hill
As a country superstar for more than a decade, Faith Hill seemed like a lock to win Female
Vocalist of the Year at the 2006 Country Music Association Awards.
She'd had a big year, with the #1 album Fireflies and smash hits like "Sunshine and Summertime."
Her only major competition in the category was recent American Idol winner Carrie Underwood.
When presenter Miley Cyrus announced Underwood as the winner, Hill reacted a little less
than graciously.
"Carrie Underwood!"
It seemed like Hill embodied some bad combination of diva and sore loser, but in the aftermath,
she and her team tried desperately to wash off the stench of negativity.
In a statement, Hill said,
"The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me."
Kanye West
At the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, the video for Taylor Swift's country song "You Belong
With Me" won Best Female Video, beating out memorable clips by pop juggernauts, including
Beyoncé's "Single Ladies."
Swift, mouth agape in genuine surprise, took the stage to collect her Moonman.
But halfway through her speech, Kanye West famously rushed the stage, took Swift's mic,
and opined,
"Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the
best videos of all time!"
The cameras then cut to Beyoncé in the audience, looking quite embarrassed.
Then West shrugged, handing the mic back to a shocked and defeated-looking Swift, and
left.
Now that's just rude.
Miguel
One of the big draws of the 2013 Billboard Music Awards was R&B singer Miguel, who was
there to perform his huge hit "Adorn."
At one point, the crooner got so into the music, that he decided to jump from the main
stage to a small side stage, which sat on the other side of a pit with a small group
of lucky fans.
But Miguel misjudged the distance, and then this happened:
Miguel continued with the song, sitting down for a while but seemingly no worse for the
wear.
After the show, Miguel met up with the woman he landed on, and tweeted his relief that
she was okay.
"Ok, he's gonna make up for it?"
"I don't wanna speak for Miguel."
"Absolutely."
Warren Beatty
At the 2017 Academy Awards, Moonlight's Best Picture award was accidentally presented to
La La Land.
It's the biggest goof in Oscars history, and one that will be talked about for years.
In a scene that seems right out of a movie, Warren Beatty opened the sealed envelope,
but then paused, seemingly confused.
[Confused silence]
Beatty then passed the envelope to Faye Dunaway, who swiftly looked down and announced La La
Land as the winner.
As that film's producers gave their speeches, show staffers rushed in and confusion ensued.
Finally, La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz approached the mic.
"There's a mistake.
Moonlight, you guys won best picture.
This is not a joke."
"Moonlight: Best Picture."
So what happened?
One of the PricewaterhouseCoopers accountants gave Beatty a "Best Actress" envelope in error.
It read "Emma Stone, La La Land" in full, but Dunaway had just seen the movie title
and rolled with it.
"I opened the envelope, andit said, 'Emma Stone, La La LAnd.'
That's why I took such a long look."
John Travolta
At the 2014 Academy Awards, John Travolta was there to introduce Idina Menzel, who was
there to belt out "Let it Go" from Frozen, which would go on to win Best Original Song.
When Travolta was supposed to just say "Idina Menzel" and get out of the way, he didn't.
Somehow, he said this instead:
"Please welcome the wickedly talented, one and only, Adele Dazeem."
A year later, Travolta explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live! how he so spectacularly messed
up a task as easy as reading off of a teleprompter.
"They said, 'Oh, by the way, we've changed Idina's name to a phonetic spelling.'
What do you mean?
Go!"
