Waching daily Sep 4 2018

hello and welcome to Machina Arcana in about three minutes

prototype copy used

It is a game for one to four players

it has a solo mode

playing time is around two to three hours

if you live that long

it's a complex game

You are deep underground in some lost and

forsaken tunnels. Dark cyclopean shapes

stagger towards you and the light you

are holding recoils from them

you have only your wit and your steampunk technical expertise to protect you

Can you survive this dark place long enough to

create the means to defend yourself?

Or will you just be food for the old ones

the game is played in chapters and each

chapter will require a certain task to

be completed to advance

the final chapter takes place on a special tile

cooperative: each player is working

together to overcome the evils in this underground

until one of them dies that is

Then they get to control the monsters

dice: This game features a lot

of dice rolls but the dice are designed

with low variance

play a turn

each player gets a number of action points equal to their stamina

it costs one stamina per square moved on the board

there are numerous different locations

on each board that you can use with stamina they include:

the chest were you can draw two items and keep one

the recharge station we can roll this dice to get

back stamina or health

the event space which allows you to draw a blessing

the workshop which allows you to draw three cards and keep one

You can also discard items to keep additional cards drawn

The trap space which does damage to all units on the grate tiles

The exploding barrel which explodes when you shoot it

and you can also seal doors to slow the monsters down

killing monsters and using locations gets you essence

essence can be used in the place of health

or can be used to activate chapter spaces like this

chapter spaces are frequently used to

advance to the next part of the story

once all players have acted you roll to

spawn monsters for each player

this is a result of a d-10 role based on the

current monster spawn number here

as the game progresses the monster level will increase

and the monsters will get tougher

you then roll for curses but only once for the whole group

monsters will act and try to attack you if possible

all units have armor and will scores

in combat your roll dice shown on your attack and try to beat your

opponents defence score whether it is will or armor

a successful hit does one Damage

when a monster loses its last health it is defeated

and the attacker gains one essence

there can only ever be a 2x2 grid of tiles and play

so if you move in a way that would break that rule

the other tiles and all monsters on them are removed

continue playing until you're all defeated or you finish the scenario

why would you like this game

first of all the game is hard and I mean really hard

If you like games that are utterly

remorseless and punish mistakes brutally

you might enjoy this

this is a prototype version so the production game will look

a lot more polished

there's an awful lot of blessings and curses in the game

which should help with making it replayable

there's also a lot of equipment as well which is introduced in tiers

as the chapters advance and this is just the weapon cards

there are weapons, apparel, artifacts and consumable cards

the single best thing about this game is a crafting system as you can

cobble together different components and build yourself unique custom kit

and that's really satisfying when you get a good piece of gear together

however this might be the least casual friendly board game I have ever played

the rules are not incredibly complex but the gameplay is so unforgiving

that it's hard to teach without telling other people exactly what to do

also if you pick this game up and expect

it to be another descent style dungeon crawler

where you fight the baddies and win you'll find the gameplay very difficult

as standing and fighting normally means standing and dying

weirdly the game this most reminds me of

is a PC game darkest dungeon

they shares similar tone and murderous play styles

and if you want a grander experience with a similar feel and have

a lot of spare cash you could also check

out Kingdom death monster

The SYMBOL of Smash - Duration: 2:56.

QUICK

Which character on the Smash Roster would you say represents the series as a whole?

3. 2. 1.

If your answer wasn't Captain Falcon, then you disgust me.

But okay, let's go over the respectable choices.

It's no secret that Mario's the most famous character out of everyone

He's been the main set-piece for a lot of character reveal trailers

And he's been on the cover of every box

I wouldn't blame someone for choosing him

Kirby can wear a hat resembling a character if he inhales them

So in a sense, he literally embodies everyone

He was also created by the same man who made Smash

Roy works too because when you think about it, he's the only fighter in the entire series to have originated in Smash

Since he appeared in Melee months before his own game

R.O.B.'s another great pick since he was a major player in Brawl's Story Mode: The Subspace Emissary

He started out as the Ancient Minister, an original character who was tasked with sending multiple worlds into subspace

He underwent some character development throughout the story and reemerged on the side of good as R.O.B.

But no other character on the roster comes close to representing the Smash Bros. legacy as well as Captain Falcon does

He's one of the twelve original characters, and has been in every subsequent game since then, so he's a veteran

And one with an insanely iconic move-set at that

Falcon Punch, Falcon Kick, the Knee of Justice, the Heel of Shame!

These are all attacks that will live on til the end of time out of the sheer hype they produce

His combos and movement options are strung together in ways

That make him one of the most stylish and exciting characters to spectate

No matter what game he's in

Even Snake and Otacon can't help but imitate him!

Speaking of his moves, he wants to see yours!

He's had the taunt "Show me ya moves" since Smash 64, and it hasn't gone away since then!

Why do you think he says this phrase anyways?

It doesn't come from his origins, it's a Smash original, so what did Sakurai wish to convey by having Falcon say this?

Well as many people know, Smash 64 was originally Dragon King: The Fighting Game

Where these generic-looking characters beat each other up in the same way we see Smash now

Putting Falcon right next to one of these characters makes him look oddly suspicious

As if his model and some of his moves were based off the beta of Smash

If this is true, then he was the first Smash Bros. fighter that Sakurai created

Under this lens, "Show me ya moves" feels a lot more…

Personal...

As if Sakurai himself is excited to see what you're made of

So next time Captain Falcon strikes you with that iconic pose, and says

"Show me ya moves"

Then you better be giving it your all

Out of respect...

1 Year Anniversary Special Spectacular & The Launch of the Templin Commissary! - Duration: 2:45.

Exactly one year ago, the Templin Institute officially premiered here on YouTube with

the release of our first three episodes.

While we had some initial goals, the response that first day and every day since has exceeded

our wildest expectations.

Because of your tremendous support, we've been able to add Dossier and Atlas to our

recurring shows, double our release schedule, expand our presence to platforms like Twitch

and Discord, and debut new miniseries starting with Stellaris Invicta.

If you had told either Marc or myself a year ago that the Templin Institute could accomplish

so much in not just one year, but our first year, we wouldn't have believed it.

We still don't quite believe it.

But this is just the beginning.

Last month we hosted our first ever Charity Livestream marathon and at the time this video

goes live we'll be in Atlanta for DragonCon.

Our hope is that events like these become commonplace as we enter Year 2.

If you missed the chance to order the exclusive Operation: Esperanza t-shirts, you're in

luck because The Templin Commissary, our online merchandise store, is officially live!

We'll be adding more Templin branded products over the next few months, but right now there's

some Templin Institute t-shirts, mugs and even some items imported from the Greater

Terran Union.

You'll find a link in the description or on our brand new website templin.institute,

which has the best domain name possible.

Again, your support is what's made all this possible and I hope it goes without saying

that Larissa and I are exceptionally grateful.

So, we'd like to hear from you.

What would you like to see from the Templin Institute whether here on Youtube, Twitch,

or elsewhere?

Before you mention that strange glitch that occurred in our 100,000 subscriber special,

you should know that we identified the problem in our editing software and have corrected

it this time around.

If you're one of those misguided individuals attempting to uncover the so-called "true

nature of the Institute", you'll just have to look elsewhere.

So until next time!

Thanks so much for being a part of the Templin Institute as we continue to investigate

alternate worlds.

Major Chase Updates! | Changes to the Travel Portal, Partners & Sapphire Bonus Rules - Duration: 4:59.

Hey, it's Ernest from Trip Astute.

In this video, I wanted to do a quick summary of some big changes occurring with Chase that

affects those of you who collect points.

For those of you in the US, we hope you had a great Labor Day!

Today, I wanted to do a quick video on some changes that have occurred with Chase.

As some of you might know, there's been a lot of activity and changes with Chase lately,

some of which might really affect those of you who are in the points and miles hobby.

Before we get started, if you're new here, I want to welcome you to our channel.

Trip Astute is a travel channel that is focused on sharing ways to make travel easier, affordable,

and more enjoyable.

Traveling can be stressful and expensive, so we're looking for ways to help you maximize

your experience through travel tips, points and miles, and innovative gear.

If that sounds interesting to you, please consider subscribing.

Let's jump straight into the changes.

We'll go in the order of the good, the bad, and the ugly.

1. The good news -- the Chase Travel Portal is now being hosted by Expedia.

If you use the Chase Travel Portal, you may notice that the look and feel of the portal

has changed a bit.

I say "may" since it's only live when using the portal on the Freedom cards.

If you're a Sapphire cardmember, then you're probably using the portal under that account,

which still has the old interface that is managed by Connexions Loyalty.

Though it looks like Chase is planning to roll it out to all their Ultimate Rewards

card accounts soon.

While there are definitely some differences when searching for flights, I think the biggest

change is that you can now book and price flights up to eleven months in advance under

the new portal, whereas the old portal only allowed up to nine months.

You'll also have access to some of Expedia's discounted and seasonal offers, as well as

more access to seats when booking flights.

That's a big one for me since we usually can't select our seats when using the Chase

Travel Portal and have to wait either a week before or at check-in to select our seats

with the airline.

A few folks online have been complaining that some previously available hotels, particularly

Disney World resorts, are now unavailable under the new portal.

If you happen to experience this situation, I recommend calling Chase and seeing if they

can still book it.

In fact, this is a good rule of thumb any time you hit a roadblock when trying to book

travel using points on the portal.

Also, if you have both a Sapphire card and a Freedom card, and are debating on which

to use when booking, it's probably going to make more sense to use your Sapphire Preferred

or Reserve card since they have a higher per point value.

For example, redeeming the same roundtrip flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas would

cost $179 on both versions of the travel portal, but one costs 17,900 in points while the other

is only 11,933.

This is because the redemption rate for the Chase Freedom is one cent per point, while

the Sapphire Reserve is 1.5 cents per point.

If you have the Sapphire Preferred, it's 1.25 cents per point.

So it's definitely worth using your Sapphire card for the redemption assuming that the

cash price is the same for the booking.

2. The bad news is there are some updates to Chase's travel partners. Sadly, Chase lost

Korean Air as one of their travel partners.

This is definitely bad news, but there is a silver lining.

Chase picked up JetBlue as a new travel partner, which is pretty awesome.

JetBlue has some reasonably priced business lie-flat seats so this new partnership could

come in very handy.

3. And now the ugly … Chase has quietly implemented a new opening bonus rule for Sapphire cards.

Chase has increased the Sapphire bonus waiting period from 24 months to 48 months.

The Points Guy recently wrote that the issuer updated their terms on the Chase Sapphire

Reserve application.

It also seems to be in the Sapphire Preferred application, but not from all sources.

When I checked both the Sapphire Preferred and Reserve card off the Chase website, they both

now include a 48-month restriction on earning a new bonus.

This makes it even harder to earn the bonus, especially if you were planning on downgrading

your current Sapphire card to one of the Freedom cards, then reapply for a new Sapphire card.

My recommendation is that if you are applying for either of these cards, check the offer

details to see what they list.

I think what often happens is since Chase has so many offer links floating out there,

they sometimes have ones where the details have not been updated.

If you happen to find one where the offer details shows 24 months instead of the 48

months, I would take a screenshot of it before applying.

That way you have proof in case you don't receive your bonus and Chase cites the new

policy as the reasoning.

Also, I know I probably sound like a broken record, but this is a great reminder that

the game changes all the time.

If anything, this is a good opportunity to start looking at other points programs and

card products.

Just because Chase and American Express are arguably the top issuers when it comes to

rewards, I definitely wouldn't discount some of the other players in the market who

are really ramping up their travel rewards cards.

What do you think about these new changes?

Does it change your credit card strategy and approach?

Gamer Glossary | Kappa - Duration: 1:47.

Welcome to Gamer Glossary, where we break down the phrases and memes seen throughout

the gaming industry.

Todays episode: Kappa

Most people think of kappa as the king of all Twitch emotes.

You see it in almost every single Twitch stream, and it even has it's own subreddit.

But what does Kappa actually mean?

And how did one person's face become the most popular emote on Twitch?

To find out, we need to go back to a time before twitch, where if you wanted to watch

someone play video games you had to invite them over, or creepily stare at them through a window.

In this dark age, there was a website called Justin.tv, which was a life casting site,

where people would continuously stream events from their daily lives.

There was a programmer named Josh DeSeno working on the chat client for that site, which also

included a gaming channel that would basically become the modern day Twitch.

He uploaded a small greyscale picture of himself while testing emotes for the sites chat, which

he called Kappa, based off a mythical creature from Japanese folklore that Josh was a big fan of.

The emote took off immediately, and when the site rebranded as Twitch, the emote came with

it, becoming a fixture of Twitch chat.

As for the meaning, Kappa actually serves an important role.

Kappa denotes sarcasm or irony, which is one of the few ways to get those messages across in text chat.

If you see a kappa at the end of a sentence, you know that it is sarcastic.

Kappa has even spawned dozens of spin off emotes.

Kappa Pride, Kappa Ross, KappaClaus, Keepo, and many more, all of them meaning the same

thing.

So hopefully, the next time kappas start raining down on the Twitch stream you're watching,

you'll have a little more insight into the story behind the emote!

That's all for this episode of Gamer Glossary. As always, thank you for watching, and another entry is on the way!

Espressioni italiane: SCORRERE BUON SANGUE e BUON SANGUE NON MENTE! #4 Learn Italian expressions! - Duration: 3:10.

Hi Guys! Here we are again on our channel! Today we will see together two interesting expressions:

scorrere buon sangue and sangue non mente. What do they mean

in your opinion? We will find out together after the song!

Here we are. So, SCORRERE BUON SANGUE:

many of you may think that this expression is in some way related

with health, for example, that in our veins the blood flows regularly, its

flow is good... Actually, no! This expression has nothing to do with

health! It indicates, instead, two people who have a good relationship, who get along

very well with each other. For example: "Angela and Graziana get along well", however we can

also use it negatively, we could say, for example, that "Luigi and Marco

don't get along well, so at parties they always sit at different tables." Well,

it's not very difficult, is it? But you must be careful not to confuse this expression

with the other expression with the word SANGUE, that is to say the expression BUON SANGUE NON

MENTE. This expression is used to indicate that the virtues or flaws of parents are

inherited by the children. For example: "My friend Mario is talkative: he never stops

speaking! Just like his father... The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!" Perfect! Now, if you are

fond of Italian expressions, don't miss our playlist with many

expressions very interesting! Also, I remind you that by visiting our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages,

you can access a lot of extra contents that we publish every week!

Instead, on our site, as always, you can find all the exercises, all the written explanations

and so on! We'll see you again, soon, in another lesson! Bye!

Pink Smokey Eye Makeup Look with Kelly Strack | COVERGIRL - Duration: 12:31.

What's up, you guys?

Welcome back.

Today, I'm super excited, because we're going

to be doing a drugstore only video.

And we're going be testing out some new products from COVERGIRL.

I am super stoked I got the opportunity to partner with them on today's video.

They have been dropping so many new and cool products this year.

And I'm like, OK, COVERGIRL.

I'm here for it.

So I was so excited to get to do this today.

Today's look is going to focus more on the eyes,

because that's a lot of the new products from them that I have.

They have a new brow product, a new palette, new liners, new mascara,

and a new lippy.

And without further ado, let's go ahead and get started.

So first things first, we need to get these brows looking right.

So I'm going to go in with their new pomade today.

This is their Easy Breezy Brow Sculpt and Set Pomade.

I really love their brow pencil, and I have that one in the shade Honey Brown.

So I got the same shade in the pomade to test out for you guys today.

On the top here, there's a little brush that you can use.

And then you just have the pomade part right in here.

So I'm just going to stick the little brush in there,

and we are going to go ahead and define out our brows.

So I'm going to start with the underneath part of my brow.

And I love this shade, because it's very cool toned.

It's not super warm, because a lot of browns can be very, very warm toned,

but this one isn't, which I like.

So I'm just going to sculpt my brow out.

It's also so pigmented.

And the brush is really nice, because it's very thin.

So it allows you to really have control of where you're applying the product.

And this is only me dipping the brush in once.

And I feel like I don't even need any more product.

A little bit of it does go a long way.

And what I do like about pomades is, they really set your brows, too.

You don't need to go in with a separate brow wax or anything

when you're working with pomades, like sometimes that you

would have to do with a pencil.

I'm just going to lightly feather that in the front of my brow.

I actually really, really like this.

Honestly, I normally use brow pencils and not pomades.

But this actually works really well and looks really natural, too,

which I like.

Pretty good.

Going to go in and do my other brow.

And yeah, I did that whole brow with only dipping it in once.

So I'm just going to do the same thing over here.

I really want this look to be defined by the eyes and the lashes, a very

doll eyes look.

So I want to use my brows to sculpt out the eyes,

and then just do more neutral on my face and my lips.

Up next for our eyes, we're going to jump into this new palette.

This is what I am so excited for.

So this is their COVERGIRL True Naked Sunsets palette.

I tried out the True Naked Chocaholic, as well as the Peach Punch.

Those ones are scented.

This one is not.

But I mean, these colors, though.

They look beautiful.

So I am super excited to go ahead and dig into this.

So I'm first going to go in with this shade right

here on the end in my crease.

This is a bit deeper of a shade.

So I am going to go in with just a little bit, like a very light hand,

because we can gradually work it up.

And she is pigmented.

Yes, please.

All of the COVERGIRL eyeshadow palettes this year that I've tried,

I've really been very impressed with.

They really stepped up their formulas and their packaging, as well.

They repackaged all of their products, the entire line, and I love it.

Then to go ahead and deepen up the crease,

I'm going to go in with the burgundy shade right here.

I'm going to go in with a bit smaller, more defined brush

to bring this into the crease.

I'm actually going to put a different color in my outer corner.

So I just want to keep this in our crease area, just really

to define that out.

And these colors build up really nicely and layer

on top of each other well, which is good, because sometimes,

mattes can be tricky when blending on top.

But these seem to be blending totally fine.

I remember, just a couple of years ago, you literally

could not find good quality eyeshadows at the drugstore.

There have been certain products that I feel like, throughout the years,

you've always been able to find good quality from the drugstore.

Mascara, specifically, is one that stands out to me.

I feel like you could always find really good mascaras at the drugstore.

Even lipsticks, as well, I feel like you could always

pretty much find a lipstick shape that you would be looking for.

But eyeshadows was something that I feel like it took a while for the drugstore

to catch up to high end.

But now, a lot of the formulas are so amazing.

So it's been really nice to see that shift, because when I was younger,

oh my god, the palettes were bad, you guys-- literally no pigments, so dusty

and chalky.

And now, do you guys see those memes where

it's like, me when I was 13 versus 13-year-olds now,

and they're so much cuter?

Yeah, I was that awkward, weird 13-year-old

with powder-blue eye shadow from the drugstore that was horribly

pigmented, because that's all we had.

And now, there are so much more options.

I'm going to go in with that same burgundy color,

and bring it down beneath my lower lash line,

and just connect everything together.

OK, so I actually only brought that lower lash line halfway,

because I think what I want to do is kind of do half and half on my eye.

So I think I'm going to start with this kind of purply undertone shade,

and then I want to cross to the gold as we get to the inner corner.

I think it would look kind of pretty having that gradient eye sort of look.

So that's what we're going to try for.

So first going, I'm going to go in with this shade.

I'm going to pack this on the outer corner.

Wow, that's pretty.

I don't even have any Fix Plus or anything on my brush.

It is completely dry, because I wanted to see how it applied on its own

at first--

super pretty.

I'm going to bring it about halfway.

And then we're going to transition and blend into a gold.

And hopefully, that'll look pretty.

I've never really done that before.

But I feel like it'll flow in my head.

And then we're going to make the switch over to this gold.

I'm going to just pack that.

Ooh, how pretty.

Oh, dang.

So I'm going to just pack this on.

And I'm going to bring it into my inner corner and beneath,

so everything meets each other.

This is such a pretty champagne gold color.

I love it.

And again, just applying this with a completely dry brush.

My brush is not even wet.

I may go over top after with a wet brush,

just to see if that changes anything.

But it's beautiful on its own.

I'm going to grab a little bit of the COVERGIRL All Day Setting Spray Mist.

And I'm just going to spritz my brush with this.

And let's see if that makes it any more pigmented.

But ooh, that smells so good.

It's like cucumber.

I like that, very fresh.

And we will just go over top.

Oh yeah, it does actually brighten it up a little bit.

But it was honestly beautiful without it, as well.

So you don't need to wet your brush.

Just kind of depends on what look you're going for.

OK, honestly, obsessed with this eyeshadow palette and obsessed

with my eye look.

This is a really, really pretty, and it looks

like I created this with a $50 palette from Sephora, not a $10 palette

from CoverGirl.

So I am obsessed.

It is beautiful.

Highly, highly recommend this.

Up next, we're going to jump to eyeliner.

And they have two new eyeliners which I'm super stoked about.

One of them is a gel liner.

And honestly, gel liner used to be my jam.

I've been on such an eyeliner pen kick recently, but I don't know why.

I'm like, wait, I love my gel liners.

So I think I'm going to use this one today.

But they do have another liner as well, which we're going to test out.

This one is the COVERGIRL Perfect Slice.

So this is like one of those pizza cutter

eyeliners that you might have seen.

These are really, really popular now.

And these are great for doing a straight line.

You can also definitely do a wing with it as well.

But yeah, it looks like a little pizza cutter.

Please don't mind the self tanner on my hand, OK?

I'm showering it off later.

That's what it looks like.

And then you can just create these really precise lines.

This is also great for graphic work.

OK, I guess I'm doing a tic-tac-toe board on my hand.

But that is crazy.

And look at how pigmented this is.

It's still going.

I haven't even dipped it back in.

Draw a K, K for Kelly.

But yeah, like-- oh, that looks weird.

It's backward in the camera.

But yeah, this is super, super cool.

But I think, on my eyes today, I'm going to be using the gel liner.

OK, so the gel liner that we're going to be using is called the Just Gimme Noir

gel liner.

And this is in the shade Intense Black.

And it does come with the brush.

You don't have to buy it separately or anything, which is awesome.

So I'm going to go in with this to do my liner today.

So just going to get some on my brush.

The thing that I love about gel liners, and why I used to always use them,

is because even if you have watery eyes, which I do,

gel liners aren't going to fray nearly as much

as a liner pan or a liquid liner would.

They stay put much better.

And that's what I really love about them.

I want this look to mostly focus on my lashes.

I want to do big lashes.

So I might just do a straight line and not do a wing.

You know what, guys?

JK.

We're going to do a little wing today.

I can't live with no wing, so we're just going to do a little baby,

just add a little drama to the outer part of our eyes.

All righty, up next for our lashes, I am so

excited to try out their new mascara.

This is the COVERGIRL The Super Sizer Big Curl mascara.

I am a big fan of their Super Sizer mascara.

And now, they came out with The Big Curl.

So what this is supposed to do is really lift and curl your lashes,

while also still keeping that awesome volume.

So I'm super excited to see how it works.

The wand looks amazing.

It is so big and curled.

I normally really like wands that are curved like that.

And bigger ones normally give me more volume.

So let's hope that's the case.

And I am just using this in the shade Very Black.

It does come in a variety of different shades, though.

So let's go ahead and test her out and see how she does.

The formula doesn't seem overly watery or runny, which is good,

but it's not sticky either.

It's right in between.

OK, so that is with one coat.

You guys can see the difference in my eyes.

My eyelashes are literally translucent, so you can't see them without mascara.

So now, I'm going to go in with a second layer

and layer it up to really get tons and tons of volume.

This is layering up really well and making my lashes super voluminous

without being clumpy.

Do you guys see the difference between this eye and this eye?

Like, OK.

And it really lifted my eyelashes, too, which I really like.

It's like hairspray for your lashes.

Lifts them up and leaves them there.

So I'm going to go ahead and do the same thing on my other eye--

two coats.

OK, I was honestly concerned, with how big this wand was,

that it was going to be impossible to get to my bottom lashes.

But actually, having the curve makes it very easy.

All righty, eyes are done, so we're going to move on to the face.

I'm going to jump into the CoverGirl Peach Punch highlighter palette.

And I'm going to go in with the bronzer in here to contour.

So I'm just going to sculpt out my cheek bones.

This palette smells so good.

I just want to do a natural face.

This isn't a very dark or deep contour, or anything.

And then I'm going to go in with a little bit of blush right here--

so pretty.

And then, for my highlight, I'm going to jump into their Chocaholic contour

palette.

I'm going to go in with this gold highlight

and just pop that on my cheeks.

So pretty.

Oh my lord.

Blinding.

All righty, and then last but not least, for the lips,

I'm going to be going in with the COVERGIRL Outlast All Day Lip Color.

And so basically, with this, you get a lip color,

and then you also get this moisturizer, which

you'd think you put the moisturizer on first, and the lip color on top.

With this one, you actually do it different.

So you put the lip color on, and then you let it sit for 60 seconds,

and then you put the moisturizing top coat on top.

So I think that's pretty cool.

I'm using this in the shade Brazen Raisin.

This color is going to go perfect with our eye look today.

So I'm going to go in with this.

Ooh, this smells really good.

And I like the side of this doe foot.

It has a very precise side.

So you can almost use it to align your lips.

See?

When you kind of flip it on its side.

Oh my god, this color, though.

It's so pretty.

It goes so well with the eye look.

I love it.

So I'm going to let this sit for 60 seconds.

OK, so this is completely dried down to a matte.

This lip is not going anywhere.

So now, I'm going to go in with the lip topper.

And this is going to add moisture and shine.

So if you wanted to keep it matte, you could just keep it like this.

But I'm going to go ahead in with this and apply this on top

Oh my god.

This is cool.

Ooh, this also smells really good.

Oh, wow.

And it makes it into, like, a glossy lip.

I like this.

Whoa, and if you guys see, I thought that this lip color

was going to be all over this.

It's literally not even on it at all.

That's how you know, this lip color is not going anywhere.

Like, literally nothing is on here.

Wow.

And it says that you can continue to apply this throughout the day

onto your lips if you want to continue to moisturize them.

All right, so that is everything, you guys.

Honestly, I am so impressed.

Like I said, COVERGIRL has kicked up their game like 1,000 notches.

I'm obsessed with their products.

I think everything worked really, really well.

The eyeshadow palette is--

[CLICKS TONGUE] --top notch.

I love it.

And I really like how my eye look came out today.

I hope you guys did enjoy today's video.

Thank you guys so, so much for watching.

I love you guys so much.

And I'll see you very soon in my next video.

Bye.

The Strange Case of the Hypatia Stone - Duration: 6:34.

[ ♪ Intro ]

From snazzy banded agates to volcanic elephants, there are some pretty weird rocks out there.

But the weirdest ones geologists find might be those that fall from space.

And one called the Hypatia stone could be, the strangest of them all.

In fact, all signs currently suggest that this rock's origin story is older than the solar system itself!

And if it's not… well, we're going to have to rethink what we know about our cosmic neighborhood.

The Hypatia stone was found in 1996 by a geologist in the southwest Egyptian Sahara.

It's named after the first female astronomer and mathematician who managed to make the history books.

The stone was discovered in fragments no bigger than a centimeter across,

and in total, the pieces added up to a volume only about 20 cubic centimeters.

Technically, it isn't considered a meteorite,

because the Meteoritical Society requires 20% of a rock's original mass to be present to earn that title.

And scientists have chipped this thing apart and sent pieces to so many labs that it no longer fits the bill.

But it's definitely from space.

When its extraterrestrial origins were confirmed in 2013,

scientists assumed it was the very first comet nucleus, or the rocky, central part of a comet, to be found on Earth.

But its story is a bit more complicated. And interesting.

First, exactly when the stone struck our planet is hard to pin down.

It was found in an area of the Sahara full of these special rocks called Libyan Desert Glass,

which are believed to have been created by a meteorite impact 28-ish million years ago.

But the relationship between the Hypatia stone and this glass is far from certain.

We're also not positive how big this rock was when it initially entered Earth's atmosphere.

Based on its amount of a certain type of neon,

we think it couldn't have been more than several meters in diameter.

Or, if it were bigger, the Hypatia stone itself had to have come from the upper few meters.

These basic details are important to figure out,

but what's really strange about the Hypatia stone is what researchers discovered once they started analyzing its composition.

Because from what we can tell, Hypatia's chemical makeup isn't just out of this world.

It's out of the entire solar system!

See, everything in our neighborhood formed out of the same cloud of dust and gas.

And since astronomers believe that the cloud was relatively homogenous,

the rocky bits that formed should all, on the whole, have roughly the same chemical makeup.

But in 2015, scientists revealed that the Hypatia stone is different.

It has a composition unlike any other solar system object studied in a lab.

For example, its amount of the isotope nitrogen-15, a type of nitrogen with an extra neutron,

was way off for it to be from a standard comet.

Astronomers also found a type of xenon that's created when one iodine isotope,

one that predates the solar system, undergoes radioactive decay.

So something about this thing totally isn't normal.

And this year, we got an even deeper analysis.

In February 2018, a team of astronomers announced that they'd identified two separate,

yet intermingled, matrices in the Hypatia stone,

kinda like finding two different batters in the same cake.

The matrices themselves had to have formed when the solar system did,

because Hypatia needed a cloud of dense interstellar dust to form.

But they had the opposite composition of carbon and silicon that common meteorites do.

The ones we normally see, called chondritic meteorites, are low in carbon and high in silicon,

but Hypatia has lots of carbon and basically no silicon.

So again, not normal.

But what was even more surprising about this analysis is

that one of those matrices was also chock-full of deposits, or inclusions.

And each of them likely existed before the entire solar system!

This includes moissanite grains, which are commonly a small part of some meteorites,

but are considered to be mostly pre-solar.

They also found a nugget of pure metallic aluminum in Hypatia,

which is super rare in solar system rocks.

And there were also a lot of these organic molecules called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,

or PAHs, which are a big part of interstellar dust.

PAHs are also inside certain comets and asteroids, so finding them in the Hypatia stone wasn't unusual,

but the abundance of them was.

Conveniently, these PAHs were also a big reason we're able to study the stone today.

Many of the them were turned into a crust of tiny diamonds, likely when Hypatia crashed into the Earth,

and they protected and preserved the inside of the rock for millions of years.

But that doesn't explain where they came from.

And there were other compounds found that haven't been observed in any studied space rock, too.

So the Hypatia stone is still completely unique.

At least as far as we know.

Although it's a pretty compelling case,

we'll still need further analysis of certain isotopes before we can definitively say

that parts of this rock existed before the Sun.

But the exciting news is, the authors of that 2018 paper hope to get that research out ASAP,

so we'll keep you updated.

So, even if Hypatia turns out not to be pre-solar, that might be even weirder.

That would imply that the early solar system wasn't homogeneous after all,

despite the generally accepted view.

So we'd have to change the way we think about our neighborhood's history.

Based on what we know so far,

astronomers can at least tell that the stone had to have formed in a super cold environment,

one below about -200°C.

So if it is from around here after all,

that likely means Hypatia had to have formed out in the Kuiper Belt where Pluto lives,

or even farther away, like in the distant, mysterious Oort cloud.

We don't actually know a lot about the composition of all the bodies that far out there,

so it could totally turn out that there are other Hypatia-like space rocks.

Mosty, all this means means we just have to keep looking.

But no matter what the answer to this mystery is, we're gonna learn something cool.

September Glam Bag Sneak Peek & Bobbi Brown Camo Luxe Collection | This Week in Beauty with ipsy 9/4 - Duration: 5:50.

(playful music)

- Hey guys! I'm Roxette Arisa,

and you're watching This Week in Beauty with ipsy.

So today we're chatting about the brand new

Camo Luxe Collection from Bobbi Brown,

and also their Luxe Matte Lip Colors.

First off we have the Camo Luxe Collection's

Camo Luxe Eye and Cheek Palette.

It's basically putting a modern spin on iconic camo.

This packaging is so cute,

when I saw it I just about died

because it's like the cutest little thing.

Especially for all of my camo-lovers out there.

And when you open up the pallette

you actually get a really nice variety

of shades and products.

There are actually six different eyeshadows in here

so you get some mattes in here

and the mattes are really nice and pigmented.

I always find that mattes are harder to swatch,

so when mattes swatch well

it really gives me high hopes for the shadows.

Like, look how beautiful that is.

It's swatching so opaque, so creamy,

and you can just tell that it's going to blend out

really nicely on top of the eyes.

This is one of the shimmer shades that I just died for.

It is so beautiful, I think it'd be so perfect

for a smokey eye to really give it that glitz and glamour

but still have that dark and edgy look.

I love that you do get those different formulas.

So, like I said you get mattes,

but then you also get some sparkle shadows,

and then a metallic shadow in there as well.

So this is one of the more sparkle shadows.

Again such a pretty formula

and I think that the pallette shades

are very cohesive with one another.

Moving on, you also have

a light reflective highlighting powder in here,

which is so pretty.

Well first of all it has a nice little design in here.

It almost looks kind of camo-esque,

it has like a little swirl pattern.

But the powder itself is so beautiful

if you're looking for a radiant sheen.

This is what it looks like on the skin.

And you can just tell that it's going

to blend out super easily,

and add the perfect gold touch to your cheekbones.

And there are also a couple other products

inside of this collection.

There's some new nail polishes,

and also some new gel liners,

and if you haven't tried the Bobbi Brown gel liners,

they are amazing. They're really, really good quality,

and these are some nice, pretty shades.

So we have Cyprus Ink and Forest Shimmer Ink,

so a little different than your average black.

Now moving on to our lippy collections.

We have some of Bobbi Brown's brand new Luxe Matte lippies.

And basically you guys know

this is one of their best-selling products,

their Luxe Lip Color.

And it really is an iconic product for Bobbi Brown,

and whenever I think of Bobbi Brown,

I honestly do think of like their lip products

because they're such a good formula,

very moisturizing on the lips,

last a long time and everything like that.

But now they have introduced a new formula.

So this is their Luxe Matte Lip Color.

I really like the packaging,

how it's similar to the original Luxe Lip Color,

but it has almost more of a brushed metal look to it.

So you can tell from the outside packaging

which one is their original formula

and which one is their matte formula.

I really, really appreciate that.

But not only is the packaging beautiful,

honestly the formula is amazing as well.

It's very smooth on the lips, comfortable to wear.

I'm wearing one of the shades right now.

I'm wearing Plum Noir, and it really is comfortable to wear.

It actually has oil infused powder pigments

to make sure that your lips stay matte and not dry.

Those pure matte powder pigments are doing their job.

And on top of that they are full coverage lipsticks with,

like I said, comfortable lightweight wear time,

and they are supposed to stay on your lips

for 12 hours with that same high impact color.

And they actually are available in 18 shades,

so we have a couple here to show you guys today,

but you have a wide range to choose from.

My favorite shade is probably

either Plum Noir or Red Carpet.

So Plum Noir is the one that I have on my lips right now,

but Red Carpet is just your perfect classic red.

And I feel like whenever I'm looking for

a matte red lipstick, I'm looking for something

that is going to be comfortable to wear,

but also stay on my lips a long time

and this is just that.

It's going to look so pretty with a wing liner

or even a bronze shimmery eye.

I think this is going to be a go-to for me starting off now.

So tell us what your favorite color is

down in the comment section below

and you can always shop Bobbi Brown's classic beauty staples

and get cashback on Ipsy Shopper.

(light music)

Now let's take a sneak peak at the September glam bag.

There are some seriously amazing products

that you might be getting in yours.

And first off, can we just talk about the bag.

It's so cute, it has these little lashes,

black and gold, it's like the cutest little thing.

The first product that I wanted to mention

is Benefit's Hoola Bronzer.

This is a cult favorite and for good reason.

It is such a great bronzer color,

because it has this nice, neutral undertone.

So tons of different skin tones can use this bronzer,

and because it is matte,

you can actually use it as a contour

or a all-over bronze.

And it blends out super nice and easily

for either one of those.

So you might be getting that guy,

I'm really, really excited for that.

The next product is the

Make Up Forever Ultra HD skin Perfector.

This stuff is amazing because it provides light coverage,

so this is not like a full coverage foundation,

but it does provide very, very light coverage

to just kind of even out the skintone

on days when maybe you're going for a no makeup makeup look,

or you're just going out to run some errands,

this is great because it is going

to lightly perfect your skin.

And lastly the product that I'm actually wearing

on my lips right now is

the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick

in the shade Babe Alert.

This may be in your Glam Bag as well,

and if you have not tried the

Smashbox liquid lipsticks, they are incredible.

They have such a great, nice,

comfortable, lightweight formula,

never dries out my lips,

and it really is something that you have to try.

So those are some of my favorite products

that I'm really excited for you guys to try out,

and let us know what you think

down in the comments section if you do.

That's all we have time for today,

but thank you so much for watching

This Week in Beauty with ipsy, I'm Roxette Arisa,

and we'll see you next time.

Berlin's public transport: How to use it - Duration: 13:48.

Berlin is the capital of Germany and its biggest city as well,

and it's very definitely well worth a visit.

I made a video about it a few years ago, and it lasts a full hour.

But so many attractions are spread out over such a wide area

that you're simply not going to get the most out of it by walking.

Driving in an unfamiliar city can be a nightmare,

so realistically you're going to be using public transport.

This, then, is my guide to Berlin's public transport and how to use it.

Fortunately, the system is a lot simpler than it looks at first sight,

and is usually fairly efficient —

although I have to say, at least at the height of the tourist season it can get quite full.

The most important modes of public transport are:

Buses can be single-decker or double-decker,

and serve even the most remote parts of Berlin.

Trams serve mostly former East Berlin.

Bus and tram stops are identified by signs like these.

This sign indicates a bus stop for night services only.

This stop is temporarily out of service,

this is a temporary stop,

and this is a stop for a rail replacement bus.

The U-Bahn is a metro system that normally runs below ground,

but sometimes runs above ground.

It mostly serves central and western parts of Berlin,

and stations are where you see signs like these.

The S-Bahn is a mass-transit rail system that normally runs above ground,

but sometimes runs below ground.

It connects central Berlin with outer districts and suburbs,

and stations are indicated with this logo.

The most important bus and tram services are designated "Metro".

They run throughout the day at least once every ten minutes,

and about every half hour during the night.

They have numbers beginning with the letter M.

Buses with numbers beginning with X are limited stop express services,

so make sure that it actually does stop where you want it to.

There's also the express bus service from central Berlin to Tegel Airport,

which has the designation TXL.

Night bus and tram services have numbers beginning with N.

In all other cases, trams have double-digit numbers, buses have three-digit numbers.

On buses, the rule is that you board at the front.

If you need to buy a ticket from the driver you keep to the right;

if you already have a ticket you keep to the left

and show your ticket to the driver as you file past.

If you have a baby buggy or are in a wheelchair,

you should normally board at the middle of the bus.

As a rule, buses are wheelchair accessible, but not all trams are.

Some of them were built in Czechoslovakia in the 1980s

and refurbished in the 1990s, and are still operating today.

On buses and trams you push a button

to signal to the driver that you want to get off at the next stop.

If nobody pushes a button, and there's nobody at the stop waiting to get on,

the vehicle will simply not stop.

If it does stop but the doors nearest you don't open, simply push the nearest button.

On the buses, you exit at any door except the front door.

On trains, the doors don't open automatically:

you have to push a button or, in a few cases, pull a lever.

Trams also have buttons on the outside to open the doors.

This map shows all the U-Bahn, S-Bahn and local rail lines in Berlin.

U-Bahn lines have numbers beginning with U,

S-Bahn lines have numbers beginning with S,

and each line has its own colour.

Also, local rail lines have numbers beginning with RB or RE;

and RE trains are limited stop.

To find the right platform for your train, you need to know the line number

and the name of the last stop in the direction that you're travelling.

Compass directions are not used in Germany.

For example: if you're at Hallesches Tor and you want to get to Kurfürstendamm,

you need to follow signs for the U1

and then find the platform for trains bound for Uhlandstraße.

Buses and trams also use the same basic principle:

the stop that you need is identified by line number and terminus.

An exception to this is the S-Bahn ring,

which goes all the way around central Berlin and has no terminus.

Instead, it has two numbers:

the S41 goes clockwise and the S42 in the other direction.

Sometimes to find your platform you may need to walk along another platform.

For example, if you're looking for the U9 at Kurfürstendamm and you go down this entrance,

you first have to walk the entire length of the U1 platform.

U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations are not always connected to each other.

For example: at Potsdamer Platz,

even though the S-Bahn station and the U-Bahn station are right next to each other,

there is no connecting tunnel.

If you're changing to the U-Bahn and you follow this signs to this exit,

you'll find the U-Bahn station very well hidden here.

There are no ticket barriers at stations,

but there are spot checks on the trains and they are very strict.

Not having ticket barriers does, of course, avoid bottlenecks;

but it also make it very easy to accidentally board a train without a valid ticket.

Be very careful, and make absolutely certain that you do have a valid ticket before you travel.

The tariff system is very simple. There are three zones.

Zone A covers the area inside the S-Bahn ring;

zone B covers the rest of Berlin;

and zone C covers surrounding towns and cities, including Potsdam.

You can buy tickets for all three areas,

or for two areas — AB or BC.

If you're in zone C, there are also local tariffs,

but they're not valid in Berlin.

This also applies to Potsdam, which has its own ABC system,

so do double-check to make sure that you are buying the right ticket for your journey.

There are a lot of different types of ticket,

so here are the most important ones for visitors:

The short journey ticket is valid for one journey

of up to 6 bus or tram stops or 3 S or U-Bahn stops;

no interruptions or transfers are allowed.

The single ticket is valid for one journey lasting up to two hours.

Transfers and interruptions are allowed, but not round trips:

you're not supposed to visit or go through the same stop or station a second time.

The 4-journey ticket is quite simply four singles or four short journeys;

it's just a little bit cheaper that four individual tickets.

The day ticket is valid for any number of journeys up to 3 am the following day.

The group day ticket is the same, but valid for up to five people.

The 7-day ticket is valid until midnight on the seventh day.

Welcome Cards and City Tour Cards are available for 48 hours, 72 hours, 4 days and 5 days.

There is also a Welcome Card for six days,

and a 72-hour Welcome Card that includes entry to all the museums on Museum Island.

The Welcome Card comes with coupons for discounts at 200 shops and restaurants,

a tour guide and a city map.

The City Tour Card comes with discounts at certain tourist attractions, and a map.

If you have a ticket for two zones and you want to visit the third zone,

you can buy an extension ticket.

This is valid for up to two hours for one journey to your destination:

so when you come back, you have to buy a new extension ticket.

Short journey, single and day tickets are available from bus drivers

and from vending machines on board trams;

and they are then automatically valid for immediate travel.

However, vending machines on trams only accept coins,

and bus drivers may not always be able to make change.

And yes, it's cash only.

You can buy all of these tickets from vending machines at stations.

They look like this on the U-Bahn

and like this on the S-Bahn.

These accept debit cards, but not credit cards.

These tickets, though, must be validated before you can actually use them,

and this is where tourists very often get caught out.

Your ticket will have a blank space

and an arrow showing you how to insert it into the validation machine,

which looks like this on the S-Bahn,

and like this on the U-Bahn and on buses and trams.

You'll find these things on or near station platforms,

on trams near the doors,

and on buses just behind the driver's seat.

This is important.

If you don't stamp your ticket, it is not valid.

But you do only need to stamp it once, unless of course it's a 4-journey ticket.

Alternatively, you can download the BVG travel app and buy your tickets that way.

Day tickets, 7-day tickets, Welcome Cards and City Tour Cards

can be bought up to 30 day in advance.

All other tickets are valid for almost immediate travel.

I say "almost immediate":

not many people realize this,

but in fact it's not valid for the first two minutes after purchase.

This is to prevent people boarding without a ticket

and then buying one as soon as an inspector appears.

You can also obviously buy tickets at ticket offices,

which you'll find at certain stations.

If you have already bought a Welcome Card or a City Tour Card,

simply show it to staff there in order to pick up your coupons and city guide.

If you are caught without a valid ticket you'll be asked to show ID,

which means a passport or a German identity card.

You will also be charged a so-called "enhanced fare",

which is currently €60.

Unfortunately, there have been reports in the media

of ticket inspectors who are not as honest as they should be,

and tourists are an obvious target for them.

So make sure you understand what is supposed to happen.

You can pay the €60 immediately in cash.

If you do, you must be issued a receipt which includes a case number and other details.

Also, it functions as a single ticket to allow you to complete your journey.

If you don't pay immediately, you'll be issued a bill for €60

and instructions on how to pay it.

Obviously, if you want to continue your journey, you will then have to buy a new ticket.

Don't be pressured into paying cash.

But if you do pay immediately, make sure you get that receipt.

If you're flying into Berlin, you'll obviously need to get from the airport into town.

The brand new Berlin-Brandenburg Airport — if it ever opens —

will have its own S-Bahn station right under the terminal.

Until then, Berlin has two airports, Schönefeld and Tegel —

neither of which was built for the amount of traffic that they're currently seeing.

Schönefeld Airport is in zone C,

which is important because it means that if you have an AB ticket,

you'll need an additional extension ticket to get to or from the airport.

There are buses from the main entrance at terminal A,

and this might be an option if your destination is in the borough of Neukölln.

The X7 shuttles between the airport

and Rudow U-Bahn station, which is the terminus of the U7;

and bus 171 travels the whole length of Neukölln from south to north.

Most people will want the trains.

Just go down this walkway to the station

and follow the markings to the S-Bahn,

or, for a slightly faster but less frequent service, the RE and RB trains.

By the way, this crowd of people is where the ticket machines and ticket office are.

Tegel is closer to central Berlin and is in zone B.

A planned U-Bahn line was never actually built, and so there are only buses.

The bus stops are by the entrance to terminals A and B.

The TXL is an express bus that will take you to the central station and central Berlin.

The 128 is convenient for northern districts.

The X9 will take you to the Zoo, which is the focal point of what used to be West Berlin.

And the 109 will also take you there via Schloss Charlottenburg and the Ku'damm.

If you arrive by coach,

the Central Coach Station is in fact some way out to the west, next to the Trade Fair.

It's within easy walking distance of Kaiserdamm U-Bahn station

for services into central Berlin;

and Messe Nord S-Bahn station, which is on the S-Bahn ring.

Public transport in Berlin is extensive,

WR84X10055 - Replacing Your Refrigerator's Condenser Fan Motor AP3797248 PS967775 - Duration: 7:13.

Hi my name is Bill and today I'm going to be showing you how to replace the condenser

fan motor on your refrigerator the reason why you would have to do this is because either

your fridge or your freezer sections are too warm for this repair we'll need a pair of

wire cutters a phillips head screwdriver and either a short phillips head screwdriver or

a ratchet with a 1/4 inch socket with a removable Torx bit

WARNING before doing any repairs please disconnect your power source

so thisis our refrigerator model that we'll be using

now keep in mind that our fridge might be a little bit different that what you have

at home but the same technique should still apply so after we've unplugged our refrigerator

we're going to pull it out and turn it around cause that's where we have to go our condenser

fan motor is going to be towards the bottom here we have to take off this panel here held

in by a bunch of screws so we'll start with the screw in the corner here I'll take all

of these out and now that we have all of the screws off you can pull the panel out of place

keep in mind the panel edges are sharp so you're just going to want to be careful about

that the next thing I'm going to do is take this piece off just to get it out of the way

make it a little bit easier to get in here now we're just going to unplug it and then

what we're going to do is pop this right off if you need to you can get your screwdriver

for a little bit of leverage but just hold this fan motor in place so you don't damage

it you can just pull that out and take this plastic piece off so we get this out and what

we're going to need to do is push in on the locking tabs here there we go these are locking

tabs here so that's what we're working to start off so now we can set this off to the

side next thing we have to do is take these two screws out holding the motor in place

so to get these out what I've done is put together a ratchet with a bit on it now you

can also do this if you have a shorter screwdriver but I don't have one of those and now we're

taking out the screw in the back I'm going to need my wire cutters so I can just snip

the zip ties here now we can pull that down and unclip this and with the

cordless cover off of here and we'll untangle this now we can pull our fan motor off and

now right there now grab you're new OEM replacement fan motor if you don't have one already you

can get one from our online store so now we're just going to feed this through here just

like this and once you get it through you can pull it the rest of the way out place

the fan motor down right into these holes and clip it close so now we'll just put this

cover back on here don't necessarily need it but it's just something on there that they

had to protect from water from leaking in and just slide that up and you can zip tie

it back if you want too and now we're going to screw this back in and now we're going

to put this piece back in keep the clips lined up and all of that in place and now we can

just push it back down just like that and then we can get our screw and put that back

in set it right in here and so now we can push the fan blade back on spin it just to

check it now we're going to plug this back in

and line up the screw hole and screw that back in

now we'll just grab our panel again and we'll put that back on lining up the two tabs right

here and just slide that on make sure you line up your holes for the first couple and

we'll get everything started put one in the top to hold it turn your fridge around and

then after you plug it in your repair is complete

Finally don't forget to plug in your appliance

if you need to replace any parts for your appliances you can find an OEM replacement

part on our website pcappliancerepair.com

2018 House of Representatives State Fair Opinion Poll results - Duration: 7:45.

People come to the Minnesota State Fair

for a variety of reasons.. "You have to eat

something on a stick ... I always have to go

to the creative arts building ... eat eat

eat" but many fair goers also make it a

point to stop by the House of

Representatives booth and take the

legislative opinion poll. "What did you think

about our poll this year?" "I thought it was fine

pretty much always make sure that I come

in and do it so." Conducted by the

nonpartisan House Public Information

Services office,

the annual informal, unscientific survey

lets thousands of poll takers chime in

on legislative topics and issues that

have been recently addressed or could be

in the 2019 session. Here are the results

from the 2018 State Fair. The first

question we asked fair goers should

criminal background checks be required

on all gun sales including private

transactions and at gun shows. Firearm

regulation was one of the most talked

about issues during the 2018 legislative

session, with several proposals that

supporters say would help reduce gun

violence introduced. Opponents say, in

part, new gun regulations would infringe

on their second Amendment rights.

Here's how poll takers weighed in.

Last year Minnesota joined its

neighboring states and allowing off sale

alcohol purchases on Sundays. Should our

state join Wisconsin and Iowa in

allowing grocery and convenience stores

to sell beer wine and spirits? Food

retailers can now sell lower alcohol or

so-called 3.2 beer but a proposal

supported by several well-known grocers

was introduced in 2018 that would have

allowed these stores to sell regular

alcoholic beverages.

Others argued that this would hurt

smaller mom-and-pop businesses and

decrease revenue generated from

municipal liquor stores. Though no action

was taken it's an idea that may be

brought back during the upcoming session.

According to the Centers for Disease

Control and Prevention, more than 115

people die every day from opioid abuse.

In an attempt to combat this epidemic,

representative Dave Baker, a Republican

from Willmar, introduced legislation that

would have, in part, charged drug

manufacturers a 1 cent per tablet fee,

with proceeds going to assist in the

fight against opioid addiction. Poll

takers agree with Baker's idea. Opponents

of the so-called "penny a pill" proposal

are concerned it would raise

prescription and health care costs. In

the wake of the Marjorie Stoneman

Douglas High School shooting in Parkland

Florida last February and other

incidents across the country, several

ideas were put forward by state

lawmakers to prevent school violence.

Representative Keith Franke, a

Republican from St. Paul Park, carried a

bipartisan proposal that would mandate

school districts to establish a threat

assessment team, including school

officials and local law enforcement, to

assess and intervene when individuals

may pose a threat to safety. While the

idea had support, some thought that it

would be better to establish a pilot

program rather than a statewide mandate.

Here's what poll takers thought. As more

states legalize the use of recreational

marijuana, Minnesota continues to

restrict the use of cannabis to

medicinal purposes only. It's a question

that some poll takers feel strongly

about

"I think the legalization of marijuana is

a pretty hot topic right now so that was

interesting." "I thought the the question

about marijuana kind of

stood out and I had a hard time kind of

answering it."

We asked poll takers if Minnesota should

legalize recreational marijuana for

those aged 21 and over.

The results show a slight change from

one year earlier. Nearly 51 percent

supported the idea when we asked the

same expansion question at the 2017

State Fair. Last year when we asked poll

takers if Minnesota should legalize

sports gambling, 55 percent of

respondents were opposed. Since then the

US Supreme Court ruled that sports

gambling cannot be limited to Nevada,

thereby opening the door for states to

legalize the activity. So in light of

these recent developments and using the

same question, we wanted to see if

fairgoers opinions had changed. Here's

what poll takers thought this time

around.

Tip credit or tip penalty - it's an issue

that brought out strong opinions on both

sides this past session when legislation

was introduced that would have created a

new minimum wage category for certain

tipped employees. Some service workers

believe it is only fair to increase the

base minimum wage regardless of what

they make in tips, while others say that

an increase in their base pay could lead

to fewer jobs and more automation. We

asked fair goers should employers be

allowed to pay lower hourly wages to

tipped workers, such as restaurant

wait staff, if tips bring their pay to $14

an hour for large employers and $12 an

hour for small employers. Here's what

they thought.

A controversial work requirement was

introduced during the 2018 legislative

session. Representative Kelly Fenton, a

Woodbury Republican, sponsored a bill

that would, in part, require work

requirements for certain able-bodied

adults who receive Medicaid. Republican

lawmakers said the proposal would

increase work participation and help

protect the state's budget. Some on the

DFL side called the idea unnecessary, and

said it would hamper efforts to expand

access to health care.

So we asked fair goers: should adults

between the ages of 18 and 60, who do not

have a disability and are not the sole

caregivers of a child or incapacitated

family member, be required to work at

least 80 hours per month in order to

receive Medicaid benefits? Staying in the

area of Health and Human Services we

asked poll takers should elder care

facilities be required to allow families

to place electronic monitoring devices

such as cameras in the rooms or private

living spaces of residents in order to

monitor their care and well-being?

Several bills were introduced last

session in an effort to improve the

health and safety of seniors cared for

in nursing homes. The question is based

off a proposal submitted by

representative Liz Olson, a DFL er from

Duluth. Supporters say it would offer

families peace of mind and guard against

potential mistreatment. While others

counters that constant monitoring could

lead to mistrust and potentially change

the way care is provided. Here's what

poll takers thought.

Most people agree additional funding is

needed to improve the state's roads and

bridges - how to pay for it is another

story.

We asked poll takers should the State

Constitution be amended to require

revenue from the sale of auto parts and

repairs be dedicated to fund road and

bridge improvements? Republicans

generally supported the idea during the

2018 session many DFL'ers did not. Last

year nearly 61% of poll takers indicated

they'd be open to increasing the state's

twenty eight point five cents per gallon

gas tax to help fund highway and bridge

needs. Here is how poll takers felt about

this year's question. Minneapolis and St.

Louis Park are among cities to ban

certain types of plastic or non

recyclable to-go containers at

restaurants. Legislation put forth in

2018 would have nullified those bans and

prohibited cities towns and counties

from regulating or imposing fees on

auxilary containers from restaurants and

retailers. Opponents say the proposal

would take away an important tool cities

could use to meet the state's recycling

goals and take away local government

rights. We asked if there should be a

statewide ban on these types of

containers - here's how poll takers saw it.

Our final question focused on a

potential way to increase revenue for

maintenance of the state's parks and

trails. A January 2018 report from the

Department of Natural Resources found

that additional revenue is needed to

help improve and maintain the stakes

parks trails and other public outdoor

areas. We asked fair goers would you

support increasing fees to help maintain

the state's parks and trails? Here's how

poll takers responded. Thanks to everyone

who cast a ballot during our annual

state fair legislative opinion poll. To

follow these issues and many others now

and into the future, check out our

nonpartisan legislative coverage at www.house.mn/sessiondaily.

We will see you next

year at the Minnesota State Fair!
