Waching daily Sep 6 2018

(Episode 24)

You. How dare you come here?

And didn't I tell you that she isn't your mother?

Dad, how could you...

You shameless woman.

How dare you act like her mom?

Dad, please. Sena's here.

I want her to see this!

So that she never treats her like her mother-in-law.

She already turned me away at the door yesterday.

Mom, what do you mean?

Okay. Good going.

Gayeong, get out here.

And where's that con artist?

Con artist?

You locked up an innocent man.

- You punk. / - I have something to tell you.

What? Go ahead.

I will marry Gayeong and live here.

What was that?

You'll marry her?

- Why you little... / - That's enough!

Apologize for having him arrested.

Didn't you hear what he said?

Let's hear what he has to say.

Sit down. You too.

Fine. Let's sit!

Gayeong, what are your thoughts?

I think it's right to get married first

before we leave.

Right? You've got to be kidding me.

You wanted to fly off and run away.

I'll be good.

Please give us your blessing.

No!

Not before I'm six feet under.

I'm going to do it.

Fine. If that's how you feel,

you are no longer my daughter as of this moment on.

And don't even think about coming home. Got it?

Let's go.

You didn't eat yet, did you?

I need to go home.

I need to tell my parents.

You didn't tell them yet?

I thought I should ask for your permission first.

You drop bombs every other day

but you want to do things in the right order?

I'm sorry this is all I can do.

It's okay.

I'm all for it.

But why did you suddenly change your mind?

I think it's too selfish to just leave like that.

And the factory as well...

I see.

You and Director Kang seemed serious yesterday,

so I thought something happened.

Well... The thing is...

There's something I haven't told you.

- I'm really sorry, but... / - I'm sure...

You have your reasons for not telling me.

Mom.

So, you did come to our house yesterday.

I heard the doorbell ring from my room.

Sena said it was a peddler.

What a frightening girl.

Even if...

Things ended like that between your dad and me...

I said I really wanted to see you

but she said I wasn't her mother-in-law.

She really said that?

Why did she do that?

She looks down on me because I'm poor.

No way. I'm sure she was just afraid of dad.

I'm so angry.

We should've had that punk locked up

for a few days more.

I understand you're angry

but we were wrong about that.

This is much better than

the two of them running away.

- What was that? / - Honey.

They're ignoring their parents

and saying they'll run away and get married.

How is that not wrong?

Gayeong liked him first and followed him around.

If he had refused until the end,

I would've been angrier as her brother.

- What? / - Are you writing a romance novel?

This is about your sister, not a stranger.

I'm going home.

It isn't even 8 a.m. What...

Father hasn't eaten yet.

- Get him something to eat. / - Okay.

What? You'll get married?

You should've left us alone when we said we'd leave.

Did you forget after all that I did to you?

You can't do anything to me anymore.

What do you mean?

You think you're smart, don't you?

It hasn't crossed your mind that YB is using you,

has it?

Did my father tell you something? Or...

Was it my brother?

Jeonghan.

What does he know?

He just left a text saying that he isn't leaving today.

Where did he go?

I'm sure Gayeong was taken.

That's why I wanted her to sleep here.

Both in our family and theirs,

the old man is the problem.

- Is it Jeonghan? / - No.

How dare you call me?

What?

What did you just say?

Is that true?

Father kicked Gayeong out of the house.

So please, stop him.

Who are you trying to order around?

I have no desire to do that.

Who was it, that you were so nasty?

You're getting married? Have you gone mad?

I came to tell you.

Getting married? What do you mean?

I just met with Gayeong's parents, father.

I said over my dead body!

- What's wrong with you? / - Why you...

Honey...

Dad, dad. Let's hear him out first.

Don't just stand there. Get in there.

What are you worried about?

Has your father ever not given in?

You said you'd run away.

Why did you suddenly change your mind?

There's a problem at Gayeong's company.

I need to fix it.

Are you the only person who can?

I have no choice but to step in.

Then just work.

- You can't marry her. / - Father.

I know why you're so upset.

And yet, you're doing this?

I was even against the two of you leaving together.

How could you be in the same family,

one as the son-in-law,

and the other, the daughter-in-law?

It is awkward but it isn't a crime.

I did nothing wrong.

What about Sena?

She had you arrested

although you said you two would leave.

Do you think

she'd let you marry into the family where she is?

She can't do anything anymore.

I can stop her.

If you start your marriage with lies,

how can you trust each other?

I'm doing this because I don't want to lie.

I lied every single day, in order to...

Keep Gayeong out of my life.

"I don't like you."

"I'm not interested."

"No, because you're a client."

"I'm not over my ex-girlfriend."

"My ego won't allow it."

I can't do it anymore.

But what I feel in my heart is...

I don't want to lose her for any reason.

That's how I feel.

You should've let her go even if it was painful.

Gayeong really isn't going?

No.

Jaedong will flip out again once he gets home.

He made a huge decision to act like a proper son

to fill in for Gayeong.

So? If Gayeong doesn't leave, will he call me

Lady Seo again?

You know your son is pathetic, don't you?

What's wrong with my son?

Hello.

Hi.

Gayeong is inside.

Gayeong.

Come home first. Let's talk there.

You should do things right and

wait for his permission.

Do you want to fuel father's anger?

I won't go to a house that refuses my mom's entry.

What do you mean, refuse her entry?

Ask Sena.

How could she not open the door

when mom pleaded with her?

- Is that true? / - It sounds like a lie, right?

That's because father told her to guard you...

She opened the door willingly

when Jeonghan's mom called.

She let Director Kang come in the day before too.

She went with me to catch the con man.

How could she deny only mom?

- What's up? / - I wanted to ask you something.

- What is it? / - Yesterday...

Never mind. Let's talk at home. Bye.

If you called, talk.

He's so frustrating. I just can't read him.

Who hired you? Who gave you the blueprints?

It was her, wasn't it?

You think you're smart, don't you?

It hasn't crossed your mind that YB is using you,

has it?

What does he know?

I have a lot of work in the mornings.

How could you say that

after you ruined everything?

He caught me off-guard and twisted my arm

but I didn't say anything.

Deokbae kept his mouth shut too.

That's enough.

How did Jeonghan

know to go to Hangang Park that day?

I didn't say a word.

He probably followed me.

He followed you?

Master Hyeongi called while I was coming here.

The GPS happened to say Seongsu-dong.

So, Hyeongi told Jeonghan?

Did you help Jeonghan?

I couldn't just watch you frame an innocent man.

How could you?

How could you work with him?

If I hadn't, you and father would be

on the news by now.

If you married into a good family, just live happily.

Why are you being greedy and

putting their company in danger?

What do you mean, the company is in danger?

You'll find out soon enough.

I have a guest. Bye.

I knew you wouldn't be able to leave

but it's nice to see you again.

May I handle the file you gave me yesterday my way?

That's why I gave it to you. Do as you please.

You may get hurt.

You'll be the one getting hurt the most.

You'll end up becoming my father's enemy.

If you tack him onto Sena,

you'll probably split up from Gayeong eventually.

That played into the calculation.

I told you, we will never break up.

We've decided to get married.

We'll get married here

and leave once things are stable.

You'll get married? Is that possible?

I plan to.

Okay, then.

If you two get married, things will only get worse.

Stop being obstinate.

I'm not being obstinate. It's about love.

Oh, my.

What are you working so hard on?

I uploaded a marketing piece for Hwagang

and the response is pretty good.

You're so passionate.

Jeonghan's father is the problem.

What is he like?

He's so gentle and well-mannered.

It's scarier when people like that get angry.

Still, you should go and beg. You have no choice.

Jeonghan says I should wait a little.

That's because he's afraid you'll be mistreated.

You should do what's right.

- What? Gayeong didn't go? / - No.

Was she caught at the airport?

Or was she unable to even go?

- No. She didn't go. / - Darn it.

What does that make me?

"Leave mother to me

and leave with a light heart.

I will take good care of mother."

Hey. Cut that out.

- Hi, little brother. / - Why didn't you leave?

It just happened.

Then you should go home. What are you doing here?

Didn't you hear? I was kicked out.

That's right. She's getting married.

What? You're doing what?

What will my little brother

give his big sister as a wedding gift?

I don't believe this...

Oh, my.

Oh, my. Oh, my goodness.

My gosh. This feels so good.

Hey, this is nicer than it appears.

What did I tell you?

I told you our beds are nice.

It would be so good for my husband.

Of course.

It's the best for his health.

Anyway, what brings you here?

What did you give your in-laws

when your daughter got married?

Give me a list of what you gave them.

Why? Is Jeongbin getting married?

No. Jeonghan.

I see.

But our list will be quite burdensome.

Do you even know who the in-laws are?

Do this.

Then you can zoom in.

Excuse me.

Hello, Ms. Han.

Have a seat. Jeonghan isn't here.

I know. The truth is...

I uploaded this marketing piece for your factory

and they contacted me asking for a quote.

Oh, my. You got us new business?

You're right. You resolved the strike before too.

Everyone, out.

Ms. Han, have a seat.

Okay. Good luck.

I have...

No ill feelings toward you.

I feel bad for opposing.

I'm sorry.

My father and brother

were wrong for what happened when

Jeonghan was framed.

That's not like them, but given the situation...

No. I'm not here to make excuses.

We were absolutely wrong.

Please forgive us for my sake.

And permit us to get married.

I'm not opposing just because my son

was in a holding cell for a day.

Of course, that's the excuse I gave at your house.

Then, is it because I'm not good enough?

You know that I hold you in high regards.

The flaw lies with my son.

I can't tell you something he won't tell you himself.

Regardless, don't try to persuade me.

I won't change my mind.

That was a waste of time.

Maybe you should've just gotten on that flight.

Do you know why father is so against us?

All he says is that Jeonghan has a flaw.

I can't tell you either.

Dad.

Won't you reconsider?

Not you too.

Don't you know why?

I do. But so what?

It's not a problem legally.

And it's not like it's taboo.

Stop playing with words.

Sena's the one who did wrong.

Why must Jeonghan be the one being punished?

To be honest, he may not show it

but imagine how he felt,

having the family's business fail and being dumped.

- I know. / - You don't know the half of it.

His wounds finally healed after meeting Gayeong

but the moment he found out

that Sena married into that family,

he chose to break up with her.

But do you know how much he cried after that?

He cried in front of me too.

You know that, and yet...

Dad.

Can't Jeonghan be happy?

That's what I want too.

He can't be happy if he marries her.

You know, everyone's in high spirits these days.

- They are? / - YB Group's biggest headache...

Was the tension between the chairman and the CEO

but they've been fighting less and

they're making more connections through marriage.

By being in-law's of in-laws.

What are you talking about?

Are things going well with Cells Beauty?

We'll send an official proposal today.

Hi. What's up?

I heard father was here.

Have you heard the news?

Your father is setting up his in-law's daughter

with a man.

There's no way Gayeong will show up.

Sena will take care of it.

My gosh. You're the best, Mr. Kang.

You're already helping out our company.

Now, you'll help my pathetic daughter?

Yes, yes.

If it works out, I'll buy you more than drinks.

Have a nice day.

Duyeong! This time, we'll become in-laws

with a department store owner.

They're meeting tomorrow.

It's obvious she won't go. Cancel it right now.

How will that make our in-law look?

We have to drag her out there.

What will you do? Abduct her?

(Jeonghan)

We've made the final delivery.

Are you the only worker there?

What if my father saw you?

I needed to tell you something in person.

You're borrowing YB Cosmetics' factory?

Don't you think you're overstepping your bounds?

Well...

Do you really think he's being nice with

your interest at heart?

What are you trying to say?

What if

they stole your blueprints and reviewed them,

and ran the calculations first before making that offer?

What proof do you have for saying such a thing?

I think the CAD drawing that Choi Deokbae had

went to CEO Kang Jehyeok.

Where did you hear that?

Do you have proof?

Yes, I do have proof but I can't show it to you.

I can't tell you who my informant is, either.

Please study the proposal carefully

when you receive it.

YB Cosmetics sent over their proposal.

You don't look happy today.

Is it because I didn't open the door for mother?

So, it is true.

What should I have done?

If she comes into the house,

she'll ask me to open her bedroom door.

It's not like I wanted to do it.

I was so frustrated and felt so bad, that I cried too.

I see. I'm sorry.

How could Gayeong tear us apart like this

just one day after leaving home?

Get away, will you?

- We can't eat. / - Hey, man.

What do you like so much about Gayeong?

Well... First...

Not "man," but "brother."

And not "Gayeong," but "my sister."

Did you hear that?

Anyway, what did you like about my daughter?

Mom, not you too.

I want to know too.

What made the unbreakable man finally crumble?

I'm telling you, it was the pork stew.

- No way. It was that easy? / - Yes.

I am an easy man.

Eat up.

- What are you doing tomorrow? / - I have plans.

Noon at YB Hotel.

You and your hotels.

I'm meeting with dad.

It's a fancy restaurant, so he won't be able to yell.

I'll beg.

- Should I go too? / - That's a bit...

If he sees you,

he'll lose all sense of reason, regardless of location.

There's no way Gayeong will show.

What are you thinking?

She thinks she's meeting father.

- You lied to her? / - What choice did I have?

The chairman knows him too.

Mother. I'm here.

Hi.

It must be hard for you being in the middle.

Gayeong will be right out.

About last time...

I understand.

I'm sure you were just afraid of your father-in-law.

I'm sorry, and thank you.

You didn't have to come.

I brought your jacket.

You packed in such a rush.

Thank you so much.

Is Ms. Han not coming today?

- What do you mean? / - Didn't Gayeong tell you?

She brought us a new customer.

I told her no.

Let's go eat.

Okay.

I'm going to go see Gayeong's father.

If you want to marry her...

- Tell Gayeong everything first. / - Father.

How can you marry her

while hiding a secret like that?

Tell Gayeong everything...

That happened with Sena.

If she accepts you regardless, you may marry her.

Then she may leave me.

If you have that little faith,

more the reason you shouldn't marry her.

Fine. I'll do that.

It's at noon today at our hotel coffee shop.

15 minutes left.

- Okay. / - Aren't you going?

Why did you have me find out if you weren't going?

Aren't you going to grab the woman

on the blind date by the wrist?

Why would I do that? For whose benefit?

So, you're for your in-law going on the blind date?

So that she'll break up with Hwagang Glass.

Yes.

Even still, with a lowlife like that...

- What? / - The guy...

Is the second son of the department store owner.

Darn it.

What if dad gets mad again?

Maybe I should've gone to the house.

You're not here to see father.

You're here for a blind date.

- Sena! / - My father set it up.

And the chairman has an interest as well,

so behave.

You can't do this!

Just have a cup of coffee.

If you leave now,

you will never make amends with father.

Gayeong?

What brings you here?

We have an important meeting.

Will you please leave?

Hey. Long time no see.

I didn't know you were coming too.

Have a seat.

Excuse me.

That's right. I heard you had a kid.

You should get married now.

How long are you going to hide it?

Hyeongi...

Hyeongi!

Excuse me.

Why you...

Bring us something cold to drink.

Gayeong!

Why are you making a fool out of me?

Don't listen to Hyeongi.

This is a very important meeting.

You know I'm marrying Jeonghan.

You can never marry him.

We will get married.

Let's go.

Look here, Mr. Yun Jeonghan.

Go tell your parents

that we're registering our marriage today.

Do you mean it?

How can you marry her

while hiding a secret like that?

Tell Gayeong everything that happened with Sena.

If she accepts you regardless, you may marry her.

Where are we?

I've never been here before, either.

It's so nice.

Why do you look so serious?

Because I have something to tell you.

There's something I haven't told you.

I knew I should.

But I couldn't get myself to.

I'm sorry.

I'll tell you now.

Why did you do it?

Why did you go to the in-law's blind date and ruin it?

That brat.

She knows what she means to me.

I guess your lame ploy about

liking Gayeong and all that is over now.

I heard you sent the proposal.

You should study that proposal too.

Can we live like this every day?

We will never break up, ever again.

Beautiful flower bottle decoration|How to make Thai Clay at home|best out of waste|clay flower|part1 - Duration: 14:28.

Hey guys. welcome back. So last time when I shared

a seashell bottle transformation, I got a

comment saying they liked my craft but

then they do not have seashell with them

so they need something which is made at

home. In this video I am going to share a

bottle transformation for which I have

done everything at home. I'm going to

make some thai clay and share the

recipe with you and then I am going to

make some flowers out of the clay and a

bottle transformation using the flowers

Now let's get started with the clay

recipe.

For this clay, first I got one cup of

white glue. This is the MR glue which

is available in the craft stores. Then

1/2 cup of clear glue. Clear glue is

optional. This is used to get a glossy

finish for the clay.

1 cup of shampoo. Any shampoo would do. if not

the shampoo, you can use any white

coloured soap as well. And half cup of

water. I mixed all this four ingredients

and kept it in low flame. Then I added

one tablespoon of glycerine. Glycerine is

used for glossy finish on the clay.

So this is optional. you may use it. you

may not use it. it's up to you.

Then I added 2 tablespoons of vinegar.

Vinegar is again optional. This is used

as a preservative. if you want to store

the clay, you may have to use vinegar. if

you do not want to store the clay, then

you may not use vinegar.

Then I added two cups of corn flour to it.

Mixedit thoroughly. I tried to get rid of

all the lumps that were formed and cooked

it on low flame.

After some time you will see a dough

getting formed and if clay gets detached

from the pan. This is the perfect time to

switch the flame off and get the dough

out of the pan. Then I got some dry corn flour.

While kneading the dough, you can add some

moisturiser to your hands.

After some time the clay was ready.

while storing the clay, I applied some

moisturiser on the clay.

Kept it in a food wrapper.

then I stored it in an air-tight

zipper lock poly bag. Then stored it in

refrigerator for one day before using it.

Then I removed it from the refrigerator

and coloured it using some acrylic colours.

I made some flowers using the coloured

clay. To make the flowers i first made

some petal cutters using old plastic

bottle.

Then I use the petal cutter as a tool

to make some flowers using the clay

This clay is little more flexible than

the cold porcelain clay.it's cause of

the presence of shampoo or soap in it.

It takes little more time to dry, which

means we have got more time to play with

the clay.

Then I did a bottle transformation using

these flowers that I made out of the

homemade clay. Since this video is

already lengthy, I got the bottle

decoration process in another video and

have given the video link in the

description of this video. You just need

to check the description of this video

to get the video link for the bottle

decoration process. Thanks for watching

this video and if you like the recipe

and the flower making process, please

press the like button and subscribe to

my channel. I'll be back with some more

interesting projects. Till then, bye bye.

Beautiful flower bottle decoration|best out of waste|clay flowersglass bottle decoration ideas|part2 - Duration: 12:06.

Hey guys, welcome back. In this video I am

going to share a bottle transformation

using the thai clay flowers that I made in

my last video. If you wish to see the

Thai clay recipe and the flower making

process you can check the description of

this video you will get to see the link

where you can find the Thai clay recipe.

Now let's have a look at the bottle

transformation process.

For this bottle transformation, I first made some

mod podge by mixing equal amount of white

glue and water.

Then I used the mod poles to cover the

entire bottle with tissue paper. Tissue

paper will act like a primer here. On top

of which I can do my decoration

I got an old chocolate box cover and

reused the cardboard to get a brick like

look on my bottle

I used the homemade thai clay to make the

window sleeve.

Then I pasted one more layer of tissue

paper on it. This will give a more

natural textured look.

Then I applied bronze metallic color all

over the bottle.

Once the bronze metallic was completely

dried, I applied some teal blue shade

using drybrush technique.

then a little more bronze shade using a sponge

dauber. This will give a patina effect.

Then I glued the flowers on the bottle.

and that's how I transformed the bottle

to get a desired look that I wished for

this bottle. Thanks for watching the

video if you liked the video, please press

the like button and subscribe to my

channel. I will be back with some more

beautiful projects and some craft

recipes. Till then bye bye

Dynaudio Unheard Interview: Agnes - Duration: 9:27.

♪ I hate this place I live within ♪

♪ I hate how the walls cave ♪

- Hello, and welcome to Dynaudio Unheard.

My name is Christopher and I'm your host.

My next guest had never been in a recording studio before

until today, where Agnes was in our mobile recording studio

playing some of her personal music.

Agnes, thank you for coming.

- You're welcome, thank you for having me.

- And let me just start by saying, wow.

I mean, that was, you had the crowd standing up,

I mean, that was insane.

- Thank you.

Thank you so much. - How did it feel?

- I don't know, actually, it was very surreal.

Also, as you said, I've never been in a recording studio before,

and hearing yourself in a non-acoustic way

was really different, and I couldn't really hear the crowd

at all but it was quite an experience.

- Yeah. And how did it feel, you know, I could see,

I had to go myself and sit in front so I had

a good view of you, and I could just see when the crowd,

they started cheering after you played your first song,

your smile was just from ear to ear.

- I mean, I've played my songs once or twice before

in front of anybody, so it was really a crazy experience

to have people receive it so well.

- Yeah.

- Yeah, it was really amazing.

- It must have been a bit intimidating.

- Definitely! Definitely!

Also I guess, the music I have written

has never been written for anybody else than me.

It has always been my own personal way

of coping with things and such, so it was really cool

to see how people received it.

- How does it feel to have something, as you just said,

so personal, and then having to share it with all of these people?

- I must say, it has been really hard for me.

- Yeah.

- I almost quit right before I had to go in

because it was so emotional for me as well,

because It was like opening your diary

and reading it out loud to everyone.

And that's quite intimidating,

but when people just receive it so well, then it was just so giving,

and it was really, really a great experience.

- And I know that you had...

Let me start a different place.

You're part of the She Can Play community,

and I know you had four of your group members here to support you?

- Yeah.

- What do you think that meant for your performance?

- It meant everything, really.

And just seeing their faces, and they were so proud

because obviously I've been walking around all day

really nervous, and just knowing that no matter

how much I screw it up they will just cheer for me anyway,

and that was really great.

- We were talking about your music being personal to you

and now you've opened up and started sharing.

What is the most important thing for people to know about what you write?

- Sorry, what?

- What is the most important thing for people to know about your music?

- That's a really hard question, actually.

I don't think it's about knowing anything that's important,

I think it's just, just listen, and feel what you feel,

and just if you enjoy it, you do it and if you don't that's fine.

Yeah, just perceive it as you like, you know.

Yeah.

- I know that it was also...

- And interpret as you like, you know.

- Excuse me?

- And free interpretation is really important for me as well.

It doesn't have to be, certainly my story always.

I know it is, I mean it is when I write,

it's from my own personal experience,

but I think it's really cool when other people can

can relate and can fit it into their own lives

and their own personal history.

- Definitely. - Yeah.

- I know that it was also something quite new

that you were supposed to play here have you done

any thoughts about what you want to do with music?

- I mean, yeah, I have.

I played my first show for my parents and friends at my local city,

and right then I just felt that this was what I wanted.

And I think all my life

music has been my number one priority,

but I haven't been able to tell anyone

because it's really hard to admit that's your dream

because it seems so far out there.

And especially with family and expectations,

and just everyone around you, and when you're an adult-ish,

then it seems to many a bit crazy to say

that's my dream, that's what I'm doing after school.

But I think now that I've tried it and people have heard it,

and realized that this is what I want.

Then, I've just gotten such a great response

and everyone has been very supportive.

And that's just so important to me.

- The video you're going to get after this,

it's definitely gonna serve as a huge

seal of approval on your talent.

How is it to leave here knowing that you have

something where you can say, "Look at this."

"Look at that reception I got."

- It's everything.

Because when I record I have a little mic in my room,

and it doesn't always sound that good,

and I'm not a technician, I don't know how to do it.

So I've never really had anything I could show anyone

and be proud of, so that's really, really great.

And I think I can use it to, you know,

promote myself in a different way

because I've never had anything to show.

I have written very few songs,

so it's very important to have this, yeah.

- Have you, and I know you just,

I gave you like 15 minutes between

coming out and experiencing all of this

and having to sit down with me.

Have you had any thoughts about your next steps?

- Yeah, I'm already working with some people in the industry

but it was all really, really, really fast.

I mean, I played one show,

and then all the opportunities started coming.

So I haven't really decided who I'd like to work with,

what kind of music I want to play

because all I've ever played is just me and my guitar.

And that's certainly not,

I don't know if it's what I want to do.

So I just think I need a lot of time

to experiment and figure out what I like

and what I want to do.

And I don't wanna be pressured into something that's not me.

I'd rather spend a few years just experimenting

and trying different things.

- Agnes, I usually end my interviews with a question

that goes like, If you had a time machine

and you can travel back to when it all started.

- A few weeks ago.

- It seems like that might be a little bit

redundant in this situation.

So let's try something different.

What is the best thing that could happen to you right now?

- The best thing that could happen to me,

I guess just that people in the industry

give me space and time.

That I don't have to get rushed into anything or lose it all.

So I think it would be really important to me

if I could take my time and figure out what I want, yeah.

- That sounds like a smart move.

- Yeah.

- Agnes, thank you so much for coming here.

- Thank you.

- I thoroughly enjoyed, and I was completely captivated by your performance.

- Thank you.

That really means a lot to hear.

- It was amazing, and thank you for sharing that with us.

- Thank you.

- And Agnes is so new, so there's probably

nowhere people can find your music.

- I have an Instagram page!

- Yeah, and we can definitely link to that

so people can follow you.

Ingrid Rojas Contreras on the Real-Life Inspiration for Fruit of the Drunken Tree - Duration: 6:58.

-I loved your book.

This is a story that takes place in Colombia

during the reign of Pablo Escobar,

and it's told from the perspectives of two young women.

And this is a very personal story for you.

This was inspired a great deal by your own biography.

-Yeah, this is true. I grew up in Colombia.

And I was very lucky to be in a family

where my parents came from --

They were very poor. Very poor families.

And I went from living at home

to experiencing the two Colombias that exist.

And the other thing that inspired this book

was my mother would take in girls

who had been displaced by the civil war in Colombia.

And they would live in our house,

and they would be our nannies, and they would do maid's work.

They would live with us.

And some of my earliest memories

was listening to these women talk and talk,

you know, tell us about their lives,

which were starkly different than what I was living.

-And so, at a very young age, you became aware

much in the way the character in the book does

of class and of you having more advantage than others.

Was that something you always thought you'd write about?

-It wasn't something that I always thought

I would write about, but it was something

that stayed with me as -- as a piece of knowledge

that maybe not a lot of people had.

And so, I felt an urgency when I started to write to address it,

and one of the things that I -- that, you know, made me realize

just the difference in the lives and the quality of life

was that when we would go and visit my family

in the Northeastern part of Colombia, they would --

we would have dinner together and we would,

you know, buy food and bring food with us.

And I would hear my cousins say things like,

"Oh, now, we're eating like kings.

There's so much food."

And the food that we would bring with us would be just --

We just bought fried chicken.

-So, you --

I want to ask about this, as well, because you --

Obviously, you said a lot of you is in the character, Chula,

which is the young girl.

Your parents, your family, were they the inspiration

for your family in the book, as well?

-Yeah. -And were they excited or upset

that you were about to put them in a novel?

-I was very lucky to have family members

who are all very outgoing, and they loved to,

you know, hear people talk about them.

So when I told them, "I'm writing a book about you,"

they were very excited, yeah. -[ Laughs ]

-Even though, you know, some of the --

Certainly the parents

are not the most moral people in the book.

Did your parents appreciate that was a fictionalized version?

-They -- Not so much.

But I would call them, especially my mom,

'cause I love the way that she reacts to things.

I would call her, and I would say, "Guess what.

Your character is having an affair now."

And she -- in her best, you know, telenueve voice,

she would be like, "No! Like, tell me everything.

Why? Why did I do that?"

[ Laughter ]

-And your mother, obviously, Spanish is her first language.

She speaks some English.

And you have noticed that her English is changing a bit

based on the TV she's watching?

-Yeah. My -- My brother-in-law

was on a "Property Brothers" show, and so she was --

my mother was staying with my sister, and they would --

she would watch the show endlessly.

And she started to watch all these home-improvement shows,

and she started to pick up English from that.

So, you know, now when I bring her coffee,

she'll be like, "It's my dream. It's huge. I love it."

[ Laughter ]

-And this is great.

I mean, because, again, I found this book so engaging.

It's, like, a wonderful book about how children

see very scary things while they're happening.

Obviously, you know, it's happening

during this really scary time in Colombia.

But, also, this is a crazy-real detail about your life.

Your mother ran a fortune-telling business

out of your attic? -Yeah. This is true.

-And so what was that like?

-So, my father had just lost his job at the time.

And so my mother started a fortune-telling business

in the attic. And she --

You know, one of my favorite pastimes

when I was young was to watch the people who came and went.

And one, there was one woman who was --

She wore these stylish ponchos,

and she would always come, and she was a complete

mystery to us, because she always asked about dates.

She wanted to know if a date was auspicious or inauspicious.

And I had my own theory.

I told my mom, "She's probably a wedding planner."

Oh, that would be a good way to ask.

Of course, you'd want to know that.

-And, you know, my mom, she thought maybe

there's something there, but she didn't quite want to ask

because we needed the money. -Right.

-And there was one time where she came back,

the woman came back, and she was very thankful.

And she brought an envelope with tickets and a hotel stay

all paid expenses in Medellín.

And we begged my mother to take it.

We were like, "You never take us anywhere.

Like, please, take us."

You know, We'll never get to experience this again."

We went to Medellín,

and we were kind of followed around by the staff.

And everything we did,

you know, if I tried to take a sweater off,

somebody would come and take it off for me

and, like, drape it on a chair.

So we got increasingly suspicious.

-Yeah, that's -- This is not wedding behavior, yeah.

-And so, when we came back to Bogata

and my mother kind of asked her,

"But you're not a mule, are you?"

And she kind of said it. -Not a drug mule?

-Yeah. Not a drug mule, right?

And she said it as a joke, and the woman said,

"No, that's -- people who work for me are, though."

[ Laughter ]

-"I'm like in charge of the drug mules."

-Yeah. -And did that then make you

feel a little guilty about taking

the all-expense paid trip to Medellín?

-Of course. Yeah.

And we found out that she worked for Pablo Escobar.

And we were so terrified about receiving blood money

that we just went to the church,

and we had a priest bless us with holy water.

[ Laughter ]

-Well, obviously, that worked out because you're okay.

The book is great, and thank you so much for being here.

I really appreciate it.
