Greetings Earthlings!
Welcome to the Madqueen show!
I am your host the MadQueen.
On today's menu, we have a new Cyberpunk 2077 video for you, and today we're going
to analyze the gameplay of the game that was revealed past 27th,
I know, I know, It took ages but...
I don't have more hands.
R: And I don't have hands at all
We're going to analyze it under a lore perspective
and, guys, this is going to be long.
For this reason, I'm going to cut the complete explanation in several videos, this way I
will have time to make them all and you will be able to see them all without dying because it's too long.
Before we start, a warning: this gameplay is a work in progress, although we can get
really excited about it, about seeing it and about everything, we need to keep in mind
that everything that we saw here is subject to change, this is very important, because
when the game is out I don't want to hear complaints saying that this thing or that
thing is different from the demo.
Work in progress.
And needless to say that you'll find an insane amount of lore videos in my channel,
I'll put the link to the playlist in the description, go there if you want to know
everything about the lore.
Let's go for it.
Cyberpunk 2077 is based in the pen and paper roleplaying game Cyberpunk created by Mike Pondsmith
who is also the co-creator of the video game.
The universe of Cyberpunk takes place in an alternate timeline that started to divert
from ours in the late 80s.
This is a futuristic dystopia, a very fucked up world where people fight to survive
in a society ruled by megacorporations.
This is a world were technology and humanity is merged, very cyber but also very punk.
As Sid Vicious would say, a world with no future.
Except for the promise of the American Dream
But who believes in the promises of megacorporations anyway?
And when we say "is based on the pen and paper roleplaying game" I mean is based
very faithfully, CD Projekt RED people are hardcore fans and know the world in detail,
and we've been proved of it with the trailer, and this gameplay, although there are several
details I disagree with, but I'll talk about it when we reach these details.
Now let's go for the first thing we see in the gameplay, the character creation.
The first thing we find in this gameplay is the character creation file, as
in Cyberpunk we will be able to fully customize our character.
According to Mike Pondsmith, the character creation needs to faithfully represent the
original character sheet of the pen and paper game, including the backstory of the character,
which is a very relevant feature in the pen and paper game.
In this screen, we can choose the gender of our character, but we can also find very significant details.
The first one is that it looks like, more than creating a character, we're looking
for someone.
More than that, someone is looking for us.
And this someone knows we just arrived at Night City a thing that we,
as players, also learned at the end of the gameplay shown.
This is the first step to introduce us to the ambient of Cyberpunk because paranoia
is a key component.
Seriously, it worked, I'm seeing this and wondering who may be looking for us.
There are two possible answers: either a megacorporation or a very skilled netrunner.
If a megacorporation is looking for us, they would hire the services of Infocom.
Infocom are the ultimate detectives and can find whatever information of whatever person,
but they only do this search for a reason and this reason is money.
A lot of money to be more precise, they're not cheap.
So, if it's Infocom who is looking for us, then someone very powerful is paying the bill.
But Infocom people are not the only ones who can find this information, though, highly
skilled netrunners could also find it.
But I'm talking about netrunners with mad skills, like Rache Bartmoss, that I believe
Americans call him "Reish"?
Or Alt Cunningham or even Spider Murphy, but only people of that level.
So, someone paid Infocom to find V, or some netrunner is looking for V, or some netrunner
working for Infocom is trying to find V. this is literally the first frame of the game and
we're already paranoid thinking we are observed.
By who?
Well I guess that finding out is going to be part of the plot.
And, yep, getting us to be paranoid as well.
I mean, it's working.
In this gender screen we can also see what are the 5 customization menus that we're
going to find: Birth Record, meaning the one we're in right now, Background check, biometric
scan, appearance, and biostats.
We'll see them in detail later, but there's a thing that caught my attention:
both Biometric Scan and Appearance are branded as "Last known".
I believe that this "last known" gives us a hint that, as we pondered many times
in the past, the game is going to give us a chance to change ourselves in the middle
of the game, so it seems that biosculpt is going to be present in the middle of the game
and that's good news.
Biosculpt is something similar to cosmetic surgery where you can change everything you
want from your physical appearance, it doesn't have a humanity cost associated, so you can
abuse it without turning into a cyberpsycho, and, obviously, as long as you have money
to pay for the service.
Biosculpt it's a trend in the universe of Cyberpunk.
A "trend" in a sense that in this universe, the same way there are trends in our universe
in the color and shapes of clothes, in the Cyberpunk universe there are trends in the
shape of the face and the body, so people biosculpt themselves very often,
especially the ones with money, just to be fashionable.
If biosculpt is a choice in the middle of the game, we'll see what happens,
because if everybody is going to recognize us if we change a lot like in Fallout 4 I'm going to
give CD Projekt RED a disapproving look like mMmmMM
From birth record we
go to background check.
As I said before, according to the words of Mike Pondsmith, they intended to make the
character customization as close as possible to the original pen and paper game,
so they added some features that you can find in the character creation of the pen and paper roleplaying
game such as the back story.
And this is what we can create here.
In the left side of the screen, we can see that whoever is looking for us is not using
any kind of governmental files, including police files, or files that belong to the
National Law Enforcement Division, since the identifying number of V is not a SIN.
SIN is the acronym of Serial Identification Number and it's the official number ID of
any citizen living in the United States, including the Free States of California, therefore,
in Night City.
Whoever has that file of V is using its own coding number, in fact, they don't even
know our SIN number.
The bad news is that this same whoever has applied a protocol to people like us, what
does this protocol mean?
Well, I guess we will discover at some point in the game, and I have the feeling that it
won't be pleasant.
The fact that this file doesn't contain V's SIN also gives us some clues of V's
life before she came to Night City.
Two clues: that whatever she was doing wasn't legal and that she had connections.
How do we know?
Burning the SIN is a common practice amongst people that make a living on the very shady
margins of the law.
But making someone disappear like this is not an easy task, you need to know someone.
Someone who can do it, I mean.
A place for everything
Everything on its place

V is the alias of a person whose name and surname is unknown, so I guess that finding
out who she is also going to be part of the game, but for the life of me that I can find
no suitable reason for this file to have V's birthdate without her SIN or any other details,
she was born in 2054 and has no known prior convictions and no education.
This can mean two things: either the corp holding this file doesn't know, although
I wonder if this was the case it would be branded as "unknown", or that she really
don't have "official" education, so she had no connections with Nomads in her
childhood and adolescence, otherwise she would have nomad education branded, unless in here
they only count corporate education.
So if it's true that she doesn't have education, we can also deduce that her family
has no connection to corporations and her parents didn't work at a megacorporation.
We don't know, though, if this education details can be modified and you can choose
one of these two options later, or learn about them later: nomad or corporate education.
Because it seems you can edit details, but maybe you need to learn more about V in the
game to be able to do so.
On the right side of the screen, we can choose different options for V's backstory, the
first is our childhood hero with 3 options.
First option: Johnny Silverhand, ex-Central America Conflict veteran and later one of
the most famous rockerboys of the lore, along with Kerry Eurodyne, the other very famous rockerboy
Both created the chrome rock band Samurai.
The second option is the solo Morgan Blackhand, the most famous solo of the lore and also
the personal character of the creator of the game Mike Pondsmith.
Both Johnny Silverhand and Morgan Blackhand had an active role in the 4th corporate war
in the side of Militech, while Silverhand was an operative, Blackhand signed with Militech
as Acting Director of Ocean Technology and Energy Corporation, the oceanic megacorporation
that Militech was protecting during the 4th corporate war.
The third option of childhood hero is the corporate Saburo Arasaka, war hero and son of
Sasai Arasaka, founder of one of the most successful corporations in the Cyberpunk universe:
the Japanese conglomerate Arasaka, eternal rival of the American Megacorp Militech
and also one of the strongest arms in Night City.
The main difference between these three characters is that Silverhand is actively anti-corporations,
in fact his hate for Arasaka is not a secret, thanks to them he lost the arm that he replaced
for his silver hand, and also lost several friends, so he would do anything to fight
corporations and the power that corrupts his city.
Morgan Blackhand, on the other hand, is more pragmatic and it's a neutral character,
he's a natural mercenary and a very individualistic person, and Saburo Arasaka is totally and
absolutely a pro-corporation choice, so I guess you can more or less know intuitively
what each option will mean during our gameplay.
And it seems that for the gameplay that we were shown the option was Saburo, so maybe
V hates Militech more than she lets show.
People asked if choosing this characters means some kind of alignment, like Silverhand is
good, Blackhand is neutral and Arasaka is bad, but I have the feeling that the ethical
system of Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be way more complex than that, so when you choose
who to love, follow your heart, don't do it expecting a particular result, because
you can be easily disappointed.
Trying to do good doesn't always give the best results, both for you and for the people around you.
The second option to choose in the backstory is a key life event, that can either be the
death of a sibling, that sounds like the typical revenge backstory; ran away from home, that
sounds like a "past is chasing me", or a first big kill, that sounds like my kind
of backstory, I won't deny.
I'm not sure if we chose the first big kill then the fixer of the game will have a different
opinion on V, as she already proved herself in her backstory.
On the other hand, this fixer, Dexter, may not know shit about V's past life.
The third option to choose is the reason why V is in Night City, and it can either be because
she has unfinished business, that is the option that seems to be chosen for this gameplay,
she also said at the end of the gameplay that she was on a crusade, so we'll see what
kind of business she has pending.
Then we have the cheesy option of an ex-lover in town, and something to prove, that I think
matches a lot with the second option in the previous panel, "Ran away from home".
Some asked what was I going to choose for my first gameplay if these options are going
to be available in the final game, remember, work in progress, subject to change, well
I have my heart divided between Silverhand and Blackhand, but I think that "first big
kill" and "Unfinished business" would be the two options I would choose, but we'll
see when the game is out.
We keep looking down and on the bottom of this screen, we can see more bad news: all
this information has been found through a recognition program so, again, someone is looking for us.
I remember that in the trailer there was some recognition footage that, I think, was branded
as property of Lazarus Corporation, the military contractor that is not Militech, and I say
"I think" because the footage of the trailer is blurred and it seems it says "Lazarus"
but I'm not 100% sure.
Honestly speaking I have no idea why Lazarus would have any reason to look for us.
Like, they are the Gandhi of this universe.
Meaning, well, they LOOK like saints…
But maybe this is only here for aesthetic purposes and I'm being paranoid, which is
also very cyberpunk, but honestly is unusual that CD Projekt RED does anything just because.
But maybe this reason is to get nerds like me paranoid, so go figure!
On the other hand, I have the feeling that Arasaka cuts the cheese in Night City, so
maybe the footage belongs to them.
They're a security company, after all.
Which is bad news, no one wants to have Arasaka looking for them, trust me.
From Background check, we go to Biometric scan and we can see all
the options of customization that we were asking for, it seems that in this case you
can choose with templates and then refine with the sliders below, and for the life of
me this Night City Recognition program is getting me really paranoid.
Really.
Apart from not knowing who is after us, what we neither can see here is if we will have
the option to choose exotics like blue skin, or if this is something we will find later
in the game or won't find at all.
Exotics are a type of Fashionware cyberenhancements.
Fashionware enhancements are the ones which purpose is aesthetic, it can be functional,
but is mostly aesthetic, and range from tech hair to eyes of changing color to skin of
non natural colors like blue or green.
Some go as far as looking like a cat, people who do that are called Aniboys, they are not
the most common enhancements but people use them.
Maybe those are in the "other" category, after hair and scars.
And I'm not going to comment here about V's appearance and Jacket, that's for
some other video.
We can also change the general style, clothes, makeup, piercings, etc, and
we can also have eye mods, skin mods, and surface wiring and that goddam recognition
program is still watching us, is it you, Lazarus?
Or is it Arasaka?
On biostats we can choose those numbers we nerds adore and the stats follow the ones of
the pen and paper game, except that we cannot find here attractiveness, which is quite logical
since it depends on the character creation we made before, movement allowance that makes
no sense in a video game, luck, and Empathy.
The fact that Empathy is missing from these stats is what bugs me the most of this character
creation, because later in the demo, when we're taking a look at the catalog of implants
our ripperdoc is offering, we can see that humanity is contemplated in this game, and
humanity depends directly on your empathy stat.
So how does it work?
For every point in empathy, you have 10 points in humanity.
And how is humanity modified?
Installing new cyberware.
And only installing new cyberware.
Drugs, biosculpt or any other type of modification don't have an impact on humanity.
Let's take a look at the implants catalog of our ripperdoc, the subdermal grip V is
going to install costs 1200 E$, but it also costs 3 humanity points, that are deducted
from your humanity pool.
For every 10 points in humanity lost, you lose one point of empathy.
The lesser points you have in empathy, the colder you are, and you slowly turn into a
person that loves machines more than humans.
With one point of empathy, you need to make constant efforts to avoid
killing all the meatbags you find in your way.
If you reach 0 points of empathy, game over, you lose control of yourself, you turn into
a cyberpsycho and it's like final death.
We know that we won't be able to reach 0 empathy, but they didn't say if we're
going to be able to reach 1 point, and that will be interesting to see, because I can
picture all dialogue options with one point of empathy and they will all revolve around
chaos, destruction, and murder, which is not totally a bad perspective.
I think that maybe in the stats we have a number for empathy we don't know,
so we really can't know if we go psycho or not.
How the game is going to treat cyberpsychosis is still a mystery.
And, wait, the fuckers that are looking for us have access to our medical record from
the Neuro Net Protocol, apart from the face recognition program of Night City, that if
it's true the city is ruled by Arasaka it's bad news.
The only thing I can read from the super small letters in between is "Only something certified
and something something class officers are allowed to access, use, or something something
So, this is a super secret file on us, who's the fucker that keeps a super secret file un us?
This smells to megacorporation, which means it stinks.
And we're done for today, I think the video is long enough, we'll continue reviewing the
demo some other day that is not today because, who's going to give you your daily dose of
Cyberpunk?
Well, I don't know either, so you'll have to do with me.
See you in next videos and stay being amazing.
