to schedule an appointment i have to make a phone call
its literally been like 6 or 7 days that im like `i have to make this phone call i have to make this phone call`
i hate speaking on the phone

the month of September in Brazil is called Yellow September
I cant speak portuguese anymore apparently so i`ll just read the wikipedia entry about Yellow September
"Yellow September is a Brazilian campaign with the goal to prevent suicide. It started in 2015 in Brasilia.
The month of September was chosen because September 10th is the World Suicide Prevention Day

I didnt know it started in 2015
I thought it had been going on for a long time
Apparently its only been 3 years since Brazil started this Yellow September campaign
And what do I want to talk about the Yellow September?
I dont know either
Its a video about my current situation and since it's september now I thought there wouldnt be a better month to speak about this
Firstly, during Yellow September a lot of people post things like "hi my inbox is open if anyone wants to talk and vent, i will answer all messages, feel free to message me, i wanna help" etc
And I think this is a really nice initiative, I really do
You offering to help someone who might be going through a hard time
However... its important to remember not everyone is gonna be willing to talk to a stranger

i just realized how hypocritical this would sound, i was gonna say
"I personally wouldnt talk to a stranger about my problems, I wouldnt open myself"
But im here in front of a camera speaking to my 26k subscribers about my problems, so yea this is hypocritical
We have to remember not everyone is willing to, not everyone wants to and not everyone is able to open up to a random stranger
Also, even if someone talks to you and you listen and give advice and etc, at the end of the day youre not a qualified person to treat psychological disorders
And Im not trying to offend anyone that is offering this kind of help to talk and vent, but
I see many people acting like this is a solution, you know.
Especially because Yellow September is about suicide
It`s very very hard that you, a "common" person, will be able to help someone with suicidal tendencies in the level that the person needs to be helped
Again, I think its a very nice initiative,
I think that talking CAN help, but
in a lot of cases, to a lot of people,
exchanging messages with a stranger
is not gonna be all the help that this person needs
it might be a little help but it wont be all the help they need
During all months, but especially Yellow September, besides this idea of the 'open inbox', i think its super important we encourage people to search for, what is the thing that can help them?, therapy
A psychologist, a pschiatrist
Some professional help, with people who studied this
and are qualified and that can really help
Depression, suicidal tendencies, anxiety, these psychological disorders are diseases, right
I didnt study psychology, i didnt study what happens inside the human brain, so i am not qualified to help someone that has a psychological disease
Can I try? yes
But at the end of the day i am not the most qualified person for this
Diseases have to be treated as such, so I think its important not only to encourage people to message you to vent, but als-

But its also important to encourage people to search for professional help
I know a lot of people dont have the means to pay for professional help
But, like, Im not...

Anyway, Im not an expert in the topic
But I know that in my city in Brazil, there are some therapy services for free or very low cost
I think every where, there must be a few options of therapy for low cost, you only have to search about it and get info, its important to go after this professional help
I see a lot of people focusing on this idea that talking and venting helps
opening your heart helps, so message me that i will help you
Again, I think its a very kind action
But
Depression, anxiety, these things, a lot of people still dont see it as diseases
and think that only venting will solve it
Ive also seen several people saying like 'therapy is stupid cuz im gonna be paying someone to talk to me', but its not like that
The person studied over 4 years, graduated on that. The human mind is super complex, so talking to a random person is extremely different than talking to a therapist
And I think Brazilians have a certain advantage, cuz therapy is a lot more normalized in Brazil than, for example, here in South Korea
Here in Korea, therapy is something almost unexistent
In Brazil, 90% of the people I know have been or go regularly to therapy
Here in Korea there's still this stigma that therapy is for crazy people, only insane people need therapy
And something a lot of people dont know is that there are alternative types of therapy
When we think of therapy we think about the therapist sitting on a chair here, im sitting on this chair, and we talk
But there are many other types of therapy, idk if you guys knew, but
yea, they exist, i also didnt know until my sister started getting involved in a project about...

I remembered! Psicodrama! (idk if theres an english word for this)
So my sister started working with psicodrama
and what is that?
its a form of therapy, either individual or in group
that utilizes the dramatization, the theatricality
If youre a very artistic person I think this would be great for you
My sister is not graduated in psychology
And she also does another thing which is called imrpovisation\impromptu games which is also super cool
"The impromptu games are therapeutic and transforming. They help people focus on the right now and react to new and tense situations. When you have to make quick decisions, the impromptu games also help for, as it is a natural response of the body, all it takes is practice. Anyways, I just wanted to say there are many types of therapy. I also heard about ecotherapy with horses, my cousin did it for a while, it's a thing that exist, you go there, you ride the horse and do therapy.
So there are alternative therapies you can choose from, it doesnt have to be that thing of i sit here the therapist sits there

One of the reasons Im making this video is because... I have to find therapy
My whole family, but especially my dad has been insisting for years that I go to therapy
I did family therapy one time, I went to a therapist once and never went back, I went to a therapist once with my sister and never went back
And last year, before coming to korea- Oh the condition that my dad put in order for me to come to Korea was that I had to go to therapy
So I went for... 1 month... 2 months top
Last year?
It wasnt last year, it was 2014, before the first time I came to Korea
And... it was awful
There are many strands(?) of psychology, so you have to find one that matches with you
For example, this therapist I went for 1 or 2 months, she was...
psych....what was it called
wait a sec guys i am googling
the therapist i went to was a psychoanalyst
that idk what it is but my sister said it had nothing to do with me, so thats why it wasnt good for me, cuz the type of psychology she followed didnt match my personality
there are other strands of psychology, and it says about the way the therapist is gonna conduct the session, treat you, deal with what you do or say, how they are gonna react, etc. I'm not an expert on this, but trust me, the strand that your therapist follows makes a HUGE difference.
You have to find a therapist that follows a method that fits you, or else its not gonna work well.
This therapist I saw for 1 or 2 months didnt change anything in my life
The reason Im saying this is because ive always been reluctant to go to therapy because all the experiences i had had were not good
I have to find someone that matches me
I dont like opening up, its hard for me, and i dont like seeming weak, so i was always not a fan of the idea of going to therapy
Even though i always told my friends and family they had to go to therapy, yes, im an hypocrite
the last months have been super hard
its been a few months that i came to the conclusion that i need to find therapy
i need to help myself
i accepted that i have to do this after many years of my dad insisting
I have this 'i have to go to therapy' thing in my head since december, which means, 9 months... and i only went to look for it now in august
Here in korea the government offers 5 free sessions of therapy for foreigners who suffer from depression, anxiety, etc
HOWEVER
To schedule an appointment I have to make a phone call
They dont have email they dont have anything, so i have to call
and i found this a bit weird, cuz normally people with anxiety cant really make phone calls
its been 6 or 7 days that im like 'i need to make this phone call i need to make this phone call' and i havent found the courage to call yet
another reason im making this video is cuz i know if i was alone id never call. if it was up to me id never call cuz i hate talking on the phone
but since im talking to you guys through the camera and im being recorded it puts a bit of pressure on my to call

its a month to bring awareness about psychological disorders and especially...
suicide prevention... which still is a big tabboo, so..
i think its very important that this day\month\campaign exists
theres also a big tabboo about talking about this kind of stuff like depression and suicide
i think we have to talk about it. we cant speak carelessly, of course, even the association of psychology (or something like that) has certain 'rules' of how we should and shouldnt talk about it
but we have to discuss it. we cant pretend it doesnt happen, cuz it does, unfortunately.
its a very hard topic to talk about
i hope that anyone watching that is going a through a hard time and was thinking 'should i search for professional help or not', i hope that this video gave you a little push to do it
