TERRI: Have you seen those dog leashes that just let you
go so far, and then they pull the dog back? Well I want
to talk to you about the number one thing that's
pulling you back from living your dreams.
(Music)
TERRI: Hey, I'm Terri Savelle Foy, and you're watching
Live Your Dreams. I pray that as you invest in
yourself today, you're captivated and you're catapulted
to live your dreams. I heard a story that Dr. Norman Vincent
Peale told years ago about these American sailors who were
visiting a port in China. They said when they got off the boat,
they walked up and saw this tattoo parlor. When they saw the
parlor, they saw all these different tattoos displayed in
the window. Well, one of the tattoos read, "Born to lose."
They were shocked. They thought, "Do people seriously get that
tattoo, 'Born to lose?'" They walked inside to ask the man if
it was for real. They asked this man and in broken English this
Chinese man said, "Yes." He said, "Before tattooed on body,
tattooed on mind." What a powerful statement. I mean,
think about it, the power of your thoughts. In fact, Proverbs
23:7 says, "Whatever a man thinks in his heart, so does he
become." So what you think about, you bring about. Well,
today I want to talk to you about the number one limitation
to you achieving success, or living your dreams, or reaching
your goals. That is small thinking, negative thinking. You
know, nothing limits you more in your life than your thoughts,
than what's going on right here? In fact, God is moved or he is
limited by our thinking. Did you know that it's that powerful
that you can actually be limiting God by having small
thoughts? Well, how in the world do you start removing
limitations, changing mindset that maybe you've had for 20,
30, 40 years of your life? How do you change that? Well, I'm
just going to share with you what God taught me, and in one
word, God just kept putting this word on my heart, over and over
I kept hearing this, and it was the word, "Audacity." Now,
usually when we hear the word, "Audacity," we think of it kind
of in a negative way, like people will say, "Look at the
audacity." Or, they'll say, "The audacity of you to say something
like that," or whatever. Well, do you know that God wants you
to develop audacity? That word actually means the nerve, the
courage, the boldness, the fearlessness, even the grit.
Well, I want you to get that kind of audacity in your life to
believe bigger, to believe that God has more for your life. I
want people to even say to you, "You seriously have the audacity
to think that that can happen?" And you say, "Yes. That's
exactly what I have." In other words, it's things like this,
instead of just believing God to put gas in your car, have the
audacity to pay the car off. That's audacity, isn't it? Or,
instead of just believing God for a two dollar raise at the
office, believe for a major promotion in the company. That
takes audacity, doesn't it? Or, you could say it like this.
Instead of having, "Oh man, I'm just believing to pay off one of
my credit cards." No, have the audacity to be completely debt
free. That's some serious nerve, isn't it? Some courage? Well,
that's what God wants us to have. He doesn't want us to just
exist in life to just barely make it, to barely get by. He
wants you to have the kind of faith that believes what's
impossible with man is possible with God. That's the kind of
faith He wants you to have. But it doesn't happen by accident.
It happens strategically, and with an intentional plan. I'm
going to show you how to do that because I'm just going to share
what God has taught me, in very practical terms, on how to build
that kind of audacity. Well, I was listening to Andrew Wommack,
and he was talking about how, I don't know, for 20, maybe 30
years, he pastored small little churches he said all over Texas.
He said he never grew above 100 people. Then he said this,
"Everything was a struggle, everything. Bill collectors were
calling. Collection agencies were calling." He said
everything was a financial struggle. Well, then he said
this, that in 2001 he had an encounter with the Lord that
changed his life. Now, listen to what the Lord shared with him.
He said, "You have limited me by your small thinking. You have
limited God with your small thinking." Then he took him to
Psalm 78 verse 41 and listen to what it says. "They turned back
and tempted God and limited the Holy One of Israel." Think about
that. We have the ability to limit God in what he wants to do
in our lives by the way we think. Well, he said that moment
was one of the most life-transforming moments of his
entire life. He said the vast majority of people never reach
their full potential because of small thinking. Well, you know,
that's why people watch a show like Jerry Springer. I mean, you
watch a show like that and you think, "I'm not doing so bad
after all. I'm actually doing pretty good." Well yeah, after
watching that debacle, but God has so much more for your life.
He's saying, "Come on. Take the limitations off. I want to do
more in your life." Well, that's what God was trying to get
across to Andrew Wommack, so he said, after that encounter with
the Lord, he said, "I brought my staff together and I just said
to them," he said, "I've got to repent to all of you." He said,
"I've never even shared my real vision with you because I've
been insecure," he said, "You know, I just was doubting what
God could do in my life. I've been afraid, I've limited God."
Then he said this. He said, "I don't know how long it's going
to take to change the image that I have on the inside, but I'm
going to start believing in my vision." He said within one week
his whole life and ministry began to shift and change in a
new direction. He said his finances began to change
instantly. Everything around him began to grow. Now, listen to
some of these statistics. I think this is amazing, and I'm
only sharing this publicly because he does. But he said in
2001, he had 25 thousand people contacting his ministry for the
whole year. Today, more than 30 thousand people per month. In
2001, he said the annual revenue for the ministry was 2.5 million
dollars. Today, more than 3 million per month. That's some
significant growth. He said, "In 2001, we had 30 employees
working at the ministry. Today, 330 employees." Then he said
this. "Back then," he said, "I had about 700 people attending
my Bible schools. Today, more than 7 thousand people attending
Bible schools all across the globe." Now, listen to this
statement. He said, "I changed my thinking and everything
around me began to grow." Everything around him began to
change. Well, you know, God's no respecter of persons. What
he's done for Andrew Wommack, he can do for you. What he's done
in my life, he can do for you. Well, my first step that I want
to share with you today is you have to have the audacity to
think bigger. That's how I got started. You have to see
yourself changing on the inside, in your thought life, before
it's ever going to show up on the outside. Of course, that's
easy to say, and I'm sure you've heard this from 100 ministers.
But how do you get started? How do you really and truly take a
message like that, make it practical, and say, "I can do
this." Well, I'm glad you asked, because I'm going to show you
what the Lord showed me. We know the Bible actually says, "Be
transformed by the renewing of your mind." That's how you're
transformed is by renewing your mind. Well, how do you renew
your mind? By the Word of God, by hearing the Word of God. This
is how I began. Back in 2002, I just started with a simple dose
every day. I got a CD player, I invested in some new CDs, I
wrote a Post-It note, put it on my mirror, that said, "Push
play." Now, heres the thing. You know the Bible says, "Faith
comes by hearing." So every time you hear the Word of God, faith
comes. That doesn't even take much effort. You just push play,
and faith comes. Well, as I began making this a part of my
daily routine, not just on Sunday, because for most of my
life it was just a Sunday morning thing. I'd go hear a
preacher, and then go about the rest of my life. But when I
said, "You know what? I've got to have some major changes in my
life," finally I even began to think about my life instead of
just being on autopilot year, after year, after year, like a
robot, repeating the same actions from one year to the
next with no change. Finally, I said, "Something's got to
change." Well, it wasn't everything around me that was
going to change. It was me that had to change. I started
learning things. Like psychologists say, if you do
something consistently for 21 days, you can break an old habit
and start a new one. So I said, "Okay, I'm going to make myself
listen to one message, every day, for 21 days." Well, the
more I began to hear, the more I wanted to hear, the more I began
investing in myself. Then, I would start ordering messages
from other people. I got so hungry for knowledge, for
wisdom. See, the thing is, God has so much more for your life,
but you have to receive it. That's how I started receiving
it was by starting this quest of making myself hear
faith-building messages. Well, like I said, God has more for
you, but it's up to your ability to take it in, to receive it. It
makes me think about my Grandpa Creech. Actually years ago, my
Grandpa Creech was visiting us from Shreveport,
Louisiana, and he came to Fort Worth. At that time in
Grandpa's life, he had this little oxygen tank. that he
had to carry with him. He had these little tubes
connected to the tank. Grandpa's sitting in the den.
He's breathing through his little oxygen tank and we're all
laughing and telling stories and having such a good time. Grandma
and grandpa are in town. All of a sudden, grandpa started
gasping for air and he's breathing really hard. What was
the problem? Was there not enough oxygen in the room? Was
there not enough air in the room? No, there was plenty of
oxygen. Everybody else was breathing just fine. It was
grandpa's inability to receive it. The oxygen was there. It was
available, but it was his inability to take in what was
available. See, it's the same with God and with you and me.
God has so much more for our lives. Stuff we haven't even
fathomed yet. He wants you to receive it. He wants you to take
it all in but it's up to you and your ability to take in what's
being offered. That starts by making yourself hear the Word of
God consistently. Get on a quest to develop this success habit of
just push-play. In fact, do you know, I didn't have anybody come
to my house and this was back in 2002 and my life was falling
apart. I had no dreams, no goals. I never dreamed I'd be
doing what I'm doing today. I was just in a rut of just
repeating everything year after year. I just started this simple
habit of push-play. I never knew that this was one of the habits
of the most successful people in the world in all industries, not
just preachers. I'm talking about even the astronauts who
went to the moon and back. They found it helpful to listen to
motivational teaching on their way into space. The most
successful people in the world used their drive time to build
their faith, to learn, to gain wisdom, to grow. I thought,
"Well guys, if other people can do this, I can do this and so
can you." I want to challenge you. I don't believe you're
watching by accident or by coincidence. I believe God is
saying, "You know what? Let's kick it up a notch. Let's start
some new habits and new disciplines because I want you
to build audacity like never before." To believe in yourself,
to believe for impossible dreams like paying off that debt.
Losing that weight. Seeing that marriage restored. Launching
that ministry. Starting your own business. Being the number one
realtor in your city. God wants you to have that kind of
audacity but it doesn't happen by accident. It happens with
intentional effort. When we come back, I want to share with you
something I never knew for years that every successful person
seems to practice and achieve results. I'll be right back.

TERRI: We're talking about having audacity to believe
bigger, to think bigger, to dream bigger and to believe
that God has more for your life. The key is, you have to see it
on the inside before it ever shows up on the outside. I heard
this story about this Australian sailing team. This was years
ago, like back in the 80's. The Australians had never won the
America's Cup. The coach, he had heard about this technique
called visualization. Now, a lot of people practice this,
successful people, athletes, CEO's, Olympians, they practice
visualization. He said, "You know, I'm going to practice this
with my team." They've never beat the Americans. They've
always come up short. He went out and got a cassette tape and
had a narration made of the Australian team beating the
American team. He had it professionally narrated. Had all
these sound effects and enthusiasm. You would hear
things like, "We're going around the last buoy. We're gaining
ground. We're sliding right past the Americans." Like I said, he
had these sound effects of the wind, the waves. The crowd
cheering and then they would yell, "And the Australians have
won the America's Cup." The crowd roars and everything. This
tape went on for about twenty minutes. This is back in 1983.
They would imagine themselves beating the Americans. He said
he made his team listen to this tape every day, twice a day for
three years. Now that's intense. Every day, twice a day for three
solid years. They said, when they finally went to race the
Americans, it's time for the America's Cup race, their
attitude was so different than it had ever been before. Their
whole mindset was, "Not them again? How many times do we have
to beat these guys?" He said their attitudes were so
different. Of course, they sailed right past them and won
the America's Cup. My point is, they had to see it on the inside
before it ever showed up on the outside. That's visualization.
I've discovered, this success trait seems to be practiced by
ministers, Olympians, CEO's, professional athletes and it's
this. Have the audacity to visualize your future. In fact,
Oral Roberts used to preach messages on this. Every
successful person practices visualization. I never knew
this. Now, I did know that God has given us two types of sight.
He's given us spiritual sight and physical sight. Of course,
physical sight is just what everybody sees. But spiritual
sight is when you see things on the inside that nobody else can
see. You're seeing with the eye of faith. In other words, that's
like seeing yourself, going online to your personal checking
account and paying off that debt. I mean, really, close your
eyes and imagine yourself logging into your account paying
off that entire debt. Or actually, see yourself walking
into a bookstore and seeing your books on the shelf. You got to
see that on the inside before it ever shows up on the outside.
See yourself carrying that baby. Maybe you've had two
miscarriages. They've told you, you can't be pregnant. You got
to imagine yourself conceiving that baby, carrying that baby
and holding that baby. See yourself happily married and
that God can restore a broken relationship. See yourself
holding hands with your husband or wife walking down the beach
with the sand in your toes. I don't have to get all mushy, but
see yourself having your own ministry or your own business.
Or maybe on the mission field. Now doing this takes audacity
doesn't it? That's exactly what God wants you to have. He wants
you to have the audacity to give yourself permission to dream and
to believe it can really happen. I can't help but think about my
dad Jerry Savelle. How, he says when he first felt called to
preach, nobody's asking him to preach. He didn't have an
itinerary. He didn't have a website back in 1969. He said
nobody's asking him to preach, but he had the dream on the
inside of him. The Lord actually told him to go in his guest
bedroom, in his little house in Shreveport, Louisiana and just
imagine himself preaching to thousands of people. The Lord
told him, "I want you to close your eyes and pray for the
people who, one day, will hear you preach." Dad said he felt
ridiculous going in the guest bedroom, closing his eyes, but
he did it. He obeyed God. He said, "When I stood in that
room. I didn't see a bed, a dresser, a nightstand." He said,
"I saw the faces of thousands of people." My dad has preached to
as many as fifty thousand people in Nigeria. But it all started
in that guest bedroom in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1969
when nobody was asking him to preach. That's visualization.
That's seeing with the eye of faith. You can't just arrive at
success without seeing something beforehand. Even Jack Nicklaus,
the legendary golfer, this is what he said. He said, "I have
never hit a shot, not even in practice without having a very
sharp, in-focus picture of it in my head." He visualizes himself
hitting the ball before he ever swings the club. I heard John
Maxwell say, he said, "One night I had dinner with a guy in
Dallas who was an architect," and he said to him, "If you're
an architect, you can't even start building a project until
you finished it." They have to create the whole thing to
completion on paper before they ever pick up a hammer and nail
right? That's what we need to do. You need to imagine yourself
succeeding in the area that God's speaking to you about.
It's kind of like this puzzle. If someone handed you this
puzzle and just said, "Here, put it together." You don't even
know what this is. You don't know if this is an airplane, if
it's the Eiffel Tower, an elephant, a piano. You have no
idea what this is until you see the finished product. Once you
see how it's supposed to end, then you can start taking steps
to put it together. See, it's the same with our lives. When
you start giving yourself permission to dream,
and you imagine yourself living that dream, then
you can start taking steps towards it. I had
never done anything like this before, ever. Never
even knew I was supposed to really. Finally I had the
audacity to dream, to visualize myself living my dreams and I
had no idea how it would ever happen. Keep in mind the number
one question that will stop you from living your dreams is
asking how. If you sit around all day long saying, "How can I
do this, how could I ever pay that off, how could I become the
number one realtor, how could I lose that weight, how could I
ever see this marriage restored?" Then you're
going to talk yourself out of the will of God
for your life. For me I couldn't just sit around
visualizing all day long, I had to start taking action.
I had to gain wisdom in the area to pursue those dreams.
The Bible actually says study to show yourself approved. I
thought my years of studying were over when I finished
college and for 11 years I never picked up another book. Finally
after 11 years of being miserable and I wish somebody
had come along and given me like a checklist
of things to study, but I had just had to start
one day with one CD. Just one day with one
CD. Also I had to start making myself read books. Now I was not
a reader, at all. In fact, the only books I ever read outside
of mandatory college books was the Dallas Cowboy cheerleader
manual and a book about gymnastics. Well I've never done
this before but so many people have been asking me what are the
top books that you recommend to kinda get started developing a
successful mindset or developing new habits in your life. I put
that together with the package this week, it's my top ten books
that I highly recommend. I'm telling you they have
drastically changed my life. Like I said, I was never a
reader, ever. When I began to discover that 88% of the
wealthiest people in the world read 30 minutes or more every
single day, I thought okay I'm going to make myself start doing
this. I couldn't even start with 30 minutes, I had to start with
20 minutes. Well these are the books that have helped me the
most, especially in the areas of beginning to develop discipline
and good habits, how to manage my time I was so stressed out,
how to get control of my money, Rodney and I were spending
everything that we made, we had to learn to spend less, save
more. So anyway I listed all these books. Well
when you think about how important this is,
that you start giving yourself permission to dream.
Let me just remind you of something in Jeremiah verse 1.
God said to Jeremiah, he said, "Jeremiah what do you see?"
Jeremiah answered him, he said, "I see a branch. I see an almond
tree blossoming in late winter symbolizing alertness and
activity." The next verse says the Lord said to him, "You've
seen well." Then he said, "I'm active and alert watching over
my Word to perform it." To perform what? What Jeremiah saw.
Then the Lord came back a second time, he said, "Jeremiah what do
you see?" What if Jeremiah had said, "nothing"? If you see
nothing in your future you can expect nothing. What if God
asked you today, "What do you see in your future? What do you
want me to do, tell me because I'm watching over my Word to
perform it but I need to know what you see? Do you see
yourself debt free?" You say, "No." "Okay then I can't do it."
We're limiting God by our thinking. We're the ones putting
limitations on God. He's saying remove the limitations, let me
know what you see. In fact, Yonggi Cho, who he pastored the
largest church in the world, he wrote a whole book on the
importance of visualization and he said in the first few years
of preaching he would literally stand behind the podium and
preach with his eyes closed because he said, "In my spirit I
saw hundreds of thousands of people, I didn't see three."
Well you gotta get to that place in your life where God says,
'What do you see?" You say, "Lord I see myself debt free.
Lord I see myself preaching the gospel. I see myself writing
books and helping change lives. I see myself having my own
girls' home and safe houses to rescue girls from human
tracking." You gotta see it on the inside before it ever shows
up on the outside. This week I'm so excited about the package
that we've put together. This was a teaching I did called
Audacity. This was based on something the Lord put on my
heart that I had to start developing the audacity to
believe in myself. You know you can't wait for other people to
come along, encourage you, motivate you. I hate to tell you
but Joyce Meyer isn't going to show up your front door and say,
"Come let's do this." I wish I could show up and cheer you on
but you have to learn to become your own best cheerleader. I had
to do that. The Lord showed me how to do that, how to start
believing in myself like never before. Then I taught seven
different keys that I've learned in my life and I know it's going
to help you. One of them is on audacity to step out of your
comfort zone. I heard this statement, it said, "Comfort and
convenience run the lives of unsuccessful people." I was
like, ouch, but I don't like being uncomfortable. I've
discovered if you want to move on with God, if you want to do
what he's put in your heart to do, it's going to require some
discomfort. Now a lot of times people miss out on what God has
because they'll say, "I just don't have peace about it." You
know what, I doubt Peter had peace when Jesus said, "Come,
walk on the water." He had to step out of his comfort zone and
just go for it. I'm going to teach you how to build your
courage and confidence to step out and do those things that
used to scare you, you're going to say, "Come on, bring it on.
I've got audacity like never before." Then we put my top ten
books but then also I wanted to add this to the package this
week, this is a single message I taught called Ask. Did you know
there are certain things you could be missing out on in your
life simply because you haven't asked. You know the Bible says
you have not because you ask not? What could you be missing
out on? Now you're going to love this message, I'm going teach
you about things like discounts, scholarships, loans reduced,
hospital bills canceled. I've got so many stories of people
who've applied this teaching and they have saved so much money
simply because they asked. The Bible says ask and you shall
receive. I want you to get that special package this week,
Audacity, Ask, and my list of top ten books to help you get
started changing the way you're thinking. You got to change on
the inside before it shows up on the outside. I'm so glad you're
watching today, I can't wait for you to get this, listen to it
and then share your stories with me. Don't forget, don't look at
the years you've lost, look at the years you've got
left and start living your dreams. God's speaking to
you today, this isn't for everybody else but
you. I believe God is saying, "Come on
let's get some audacity." Thank you for watching.
