Figure of 8 Hitch - The Knot Used When Dipping/Making Candles - Slipped Figure of Eight Hitch - Duration: 5:06.
the figure of eight hitch hello
everybody welcome back and this is where
we are today today's little exercise is
we are going to do the figure of eight
hitch and this is what actually says
about the figure of eight hitch so as
you can see I'm on Ashley's book of
knots page two nine zero and the knot
we're going to be looking at is the
figure of eight hitch which is more
secure than the half hitch particularly
if the encompassed object is small gosh
I found that hard to read and then what
we're going to do is we're going to look
at the slipped hitch as well which is
one six six seven and the above not
slipped was formally tied in wicks and
used for candle dipping anyway having
played around with this hitch for a bit
I have found it to be it's a fairly
secure hitch I mean the other thing is
it's not to be used for critical lifting
etc so obviously the idea of using it to
dip candles which are I'll attempt to do
a demonstration later on so yeah not for
critical loads but as you can see on the
right-hand side here I have a slip
version and if I just pull on that it
quickly and easily comes undone and on
the left-hand side slightly more
difficult when loads been on it but you
can still undo it fairly easy but like I
said not for critical loads so anyway
without further ado let's get on and
let's get nothing right so let's go
ahead and tie this and to tie this is
really really simple and what I'm doing
now is I'm - so the green end is my
working end I'm passing the green end
around my stanchion and then once I've
passed it around my stanchion I past the
working end underneath the standing end
and then when I do this I bring it over
the standing end this time and just
bring it back up and tuck it underneath
that turn
going around our stanchion and then pull
up nice and tight and then as I pull up
on that that is nice and tight and to be
honest that particular knot isn't going
anywhere but the problem is that with
regards to this knot if things are
allowed to jiggle about a bit you can
see here not a very scientific test but
it quite easily does come free and one
thing I've also found with this as well
is if you really swing off it that it
can sometimes it can jam up and cause it
to be difficult to undo and that's
probably where the slip version comes in
so let's go ahead now and tie the slip
version so the slip version is once
again around the back of my object so
we've got to turn there around my object
and the next thing I want a little bit
more cordage at this time because we've
got to put a slip in it I then take it
underneath my standing end bring it
around
over my standing end and this time we
form a Bight just form a Bight there and
then pass that bite underneath the term
just there and there we have it we have
one in number figure of eight that is
slipped figure of eight hitch that is
slit and so now if you could imagine
this was our wick to our candle what we
would be doing is just dipping it into
the candle wax lifting it out again
letting the candle wax set tell me some
of you on here may you do this as a
hobby tell me do you use this knot for
dipping your candle custom so do ya so
that's the whole idea you dip it in your
candles bring it back up and gradually
your layers of wax form like that on the
outside and that's how you end up with a
candle on there and that's also why you
see them with a taper because you don't
always dip into the same length and so
you're just constantly dipping then when
you've dipped your candle what you do is
you get hold of the Slipknot undo it and
you can see fairly easy to undo and
you've now made
one in number candle I'm sure the
process is more complex than that so
anyway once again thanks very much for
watching see you again next time
and please do leave me a comment down
below if you've got anything to do with
making candles etc always love to hear
these stories take care of em bye bye
you

Dutch Vlog // with english subtitles // model life in new york & dutch q&a - Duration: 10:07.
Good morning everyone and welcome to the Dutch Vlog!
I thought let me start the video with my sweaty face. I just finished my workout.
I ran for 30 minutes on the treadmill, and then I just did some stretches & ab exercises.
I'm now on my way home.
Vlogging in Dutch is actually quite nice because nobody can understand you
Unless of course a Dutch person is walking beside me
I thought why not do a Dutch Vlog for once. I saw that I have quite a lot of Dutch subscribers
How do you say that in Dutch?
Ugh my arm is already sore
Later today I have a fitting and I also have to get my nails done. So it's kind of a all over the place day, but it's a good day to Vlog
I'm gonna go take a shower now but I'll see you later
All freshened up, and now I'm going to Starbucks!
I have... let me show you These are my inside slippers. And these are my outside slippers
Beautiful blue sky
And we're back home! I have my coffee
The only downside that just came into my mind is that I have to find someway to make subtitles for this Vlog....
Otherwise the English subscribers cant enjoy it
Have to somehow figure it out on iMovie
It's only 11am and I feel as if it's the end of the day. It's also insanely hot outside
I just quickly went to Zara. I ordered some tops online but they came last night & they're just not that nice so I returned those
Also just bought myself some Dig Inn for lunch.
My building is ready for Halloween with this light
I feel great again after this lunch!
Unfortunately sometimes with intermittent fasting you get really hungry at a certain point.
It's like my god I'm so hungry I really have to eat right. this. moment.
I still have a few hours before my fitting
Now I'm going to go get my nails done. The client for tomorrow sent a specific color for me to get for the shoot.
Back home! Nails are done, a pinkish color. It's the color bubble bath by OPi.
Kind of like a bridal pink, but tomorrow I get a lot of pink makeup so they wanted the nails to match.
Another thing off my list!
I'm gonna do some more laptop work now and then in 2 hours I'll head to my fitting.
I just posted a video on Instagram asking for questions so I can do a Q&A a little later. Let's see what questions we get
I just got to the location of
hang on
I just got to the location of the fitting. This is the campus of FIT (a fashion college).
And now I'm going to look for the right building.
I'm home again! That fitting took way longer than I thought.
It was a little pointless also so that's kind of annoying but what can you do about it. Part of the job
They also did a makeup test. So half my face has nothing and the other half has a lot of pink
I'm gonna take off my makeup and then I'll answer the questions.
Okay its actually the next morning. Yesterday after dinner I was so tired and didn't have the energy. So we're just going to do the questions now before my job.
I got quite a lot of questions last night. some of them are pretty big questions. So I will save those for a Q&A coming in October.
1. Where and when were you born?
I was born in Volendam, Noord Holland in 1996.
2. Favorite and least favorite things about being Dutch.
I don't really have anything I don't like about being Dutch
I actually love being dutch. I love the music, the language, the "gezelligheid" (dutch word to describe environment with friends and family)
Maybe the thing I love most about being Dutch is living there for a few years, then half my life in Canada
Now in NYC as an adult
If you compare where I live now and where my roots are, its such a big difference culturally
So to carry the dutch with me and that it's still a huge part of me, maybe that's what I like the most.
3. Are you going back for Kermis? (Yearly celebration in my hometown, parties etc.)
No I wont be going this year. I actually haven't been for over 10 years.
But my parents are actually flying there tonight because they will be celebrating it.
Who knows maybe next year or in a few years I will go.
4. Favorite Dutch food/ snack?
FRIES! Fries with mayonnaise! Fries with mayonnaise and peanut sauce
Apple Pie!! I grew up on apple pie. My mom made apple pie every weekend while I was growing up.
This one is from Demi Jonk, one of my Dutch friends! Will link her youtube channel below.
5. What do u miss the most about holland?
Overall I miss the "gezelligheid". There's no real word in English to describe it but it's the ambiance and environment when hanging out with family & friends. It's indescribable.
continued talking.... lol
This question isn't to do with Holland, but the question is
6. do you have a boyfriend or whats the deal?
WELL. That's a great question.
I don't really talk about this stuff on youtube so I'm gonna keep that private. Sorry…
Ok last question, also not about Holland. But it is an important question, and that is
7. How do you stay motivated when times get tough?
I think everyone has days where they lack motivation to exercise, or eat well, or whatever it may be.
Sometimes your body does need a break and I think you should definitely listen to your body
But most important it's a case of being honest towards yourself. Do I really need a break? Or am I being lazy, or difficult, and need a kick under the butt?
whatever the case may be.
My daily motivation?
Coffee before the gym. Listening to music before work or a workout.
Also sorry if I don't say some things perfectly in Dutch, sometimes it's hard for me to convert the sentence structure properly.
I honestly think for me it keeps getting easier to stay motivated.
I am results driven.
If my body is getting better, or my jobs are getting better, getting better feedback on my videos. Those are the things that motivate me!
Results makes it easier to motivate yourself because you see the effort being worth it.
OK that's all the questions for today. The rest of the questions will be in October's Q&A.
And that also brings us to the end of the vlog!
Let me know in the comments if you enjoyed this video. I don't know if this will be a regular thing
But 2-3 times a year could be fun if you guys enjoy it.
Give this video thumbs up if you enjoyed!
Don't forget to subscribe if you're new.
Still don't know what subscriber is in Dutch but …. Today we will make an exception.
I'll see you guys in the next video! But then in English ☺

Finnish Ghost Stories || YTAC Urban Legends - YouTube Artists Collective (Unofficial) - Duration: 9:23.
Hi everyone!
Today I'm unofficially taking part in the YouTube Artists Collective theme Urban Legends
from the artist's home country.
And just a warning, before we get into the video: this will be darker than my usual videos,
so if you don't want to hear the ghost stories, I'll put a timestamp below so you can skip
to the part where I talk about the painting process and the supplies I used.
I started by reserving a bunch of books about Finnish urban legends, folk tales and ghost
stories.
Urban legend by definition is modern folklore so I ruled out the older folk tales, although
I think I might use some of those for future illustrations, because I find the stories
with witches and animals quite inspiring.
I think this theme is kind of funny in a way, because although the urban legends you hear
can be set in a certain city, many of them are just recycled from other countries and
the city and related buildings etc. have been changed to be specific to your country.
Nevertheless, I'll tell you a few urban legends from Finland, which relate to certain mansions
in Tampere and Turku, including the one that inspired this painting.
Our first urban legend is about the Brinkhall mansion in Turku that was built in the 16th
century.
There are multiple ghost stories about this one mansion and I found them in a book about
haunted houses and human fates.
There's a haunted nursery, where a ghost has been seen outside the window and later a skeleton
of a child, a little girl, was found in front of the same window.
There's also a blonde woman seen walking or floating around the park by the apple trees.
There's a gardener's house in the courtyard, where one of the past gardeners has ended
his life in the attic of the house.
They refused to bury the body in the sacred land, which made the ghost of the gardener
haunt the house and especially the attic, which has an oppressive atmosphere according
to people who have visited the house.
Moving on to the urban legend related to this painting.
I was reading through a book about Finnish ghost stories and this story stuck out to
me, because I could immediately see the painting I'd make in my head.
There may have been other interesting stories, but they didn't spark an idea for a painting.
So, there's a mansion in Haihara, in the city of Tampere in Finland and it was built in
the 1870s so almost 150 years ago.
There was a maid working in the mansion and she fell in love with one of the guests in
the mansion.
Eventually she was expecting a child, but the man didn't want to marry her.
And at that point in time being a single mother was considered shameful and she was desperate
and saw no way out, but to run to the lake near the mansion and drown herself.
Her ghost is called the blue maiden and to this day the ghost can be seen and heard moving
in the park of the mansion.
Some versions of the legend even say that as she was running to the lake, she tripped
and broke her legs and so her ghost floating in the park is also legless.
If you're a Finnish speaker and want to research this ghost, she's called Sininen neito.
I haven't been to either of these mansions I was talking about, but I have been at the
Turku castle, which is another haunted place.
It's an old prison with a violent history.
However, at the time I didn't know about the ghost stories surrounding it and the only
thing I found spooky was they way the guides of the museum were dressed in an old-fashioned
way and standing or sitting in the halls so quietly that you were startled when you realized
that's a real person.
I do have one strange experience that happened a while ago that I can't explain logically,
but I'll save that for another video, because it might take a while to explain.
Finally let's talk about the painting process a bit.
So, I started by drawing small, rough sketches and when I knew somewhat what I wanted the
composition to look like, I combined 3 photos into a reference picture and used the grid
method to sketch it in real size.
I used different photos for the building, the position of the girl and her face and
I also looked up references for the trees, the color of the sky and dresses that maids
would wear in the 19th century.
My laptop was still being repaired while I made this painting and I needed to use online
software to do the photo editing.
So, I combined the photos with fotor.com and I added the grid on the photo using http://www.griddrawingtool.com/,
which was very simple to use.
So, this is a tip for if you're using a university or work or a public computer, where you're
not allowed to install any programs, you can use browser based software instead.
I'll list the programs I used below.
I painted this on an A3 size canvas board and I taped two A4 papers together for the
sketch, which I then transferred onto the canvas board with graphite transfer paper.
I was worried about the graphite sketch smudging the acrylic paints so I sealed the sketch
using matte medium before starting the actual painting.
I'll list all the supplies I used below.
Matte medium is basically acrylic paint without any pigment so it creates a clear coat on
top of the sketch.
But on the other hand, you won't be able to erase the sketch afterwards so make sure you're
happy with it before sealing it with matte medium.
I had a bit of a problem with this, because I sketched the tears on the outer corners
of the eye, and then it was pointed out to me that they probably shouldn't be there.
But I couldn't erase the sketch anymore so I had to layer acrylic paint on the tears
to cover the sketch and paint the tears in the inner corners of the eyes and down the
middle.
I started by painting the easiest parts, which were the sky, the mansion and the hill and
the spruce trees in the background and then moved on to the girl and the water.
I'm pretty happy with how to dress and the reflections in the water turned out, but I
was kind of struggling with the hair, I didn't even film much of it.
I also had to look up references on how to paint tears at the end, but I ended up just
painting them with watery acrylic dripping down and adding a few dots of white for highlights
once they were dry.
I used a limited color scheme of blues and light yellow and I shaded the girl with blue
to tie her to the background and also make her skin look pale like a ghost.
Although, technically I don't think she's a ghost at this point.
This is her while she's still alive.
As I mentioned in the beginning, this was my unofficial painting for YTAC and if you
want to know more about YTAC and how to take part in the current or upcoming themes or
see the previous themes all listed and maybe use them as ideas for your own art, I'll link
to a blog post I wrote, where you can find all of that information.
I'm also making a playlist of all the videos for this urban legend theme so you can easily
find all of them in the same place, both the official members' videos as well as the unofficial
ones.
If you're new to my channel, I post a new video every week, sometimes twice a week.
My videos include tips and tutorials for artists as well as relaxing real time ASMR art videos.
And prints and stickers and other merch of this painting and my other artworks are available
in my Redbubble shop.
Thank you so much for watching and see you next week!
Bye!

Trusting God When Things GO WRONG! - Duration: 2:35.
Hey, this is Carlos, trusting in God is probably the hardest thing to do for believers and
non believers.
And it's usually when things aren't going the way we want it to go is when its most
difficult.
You may be feeling so much pain right now, you're starting to lose faith because no matter
how much you pray you feel like God is not answering because you're still in the same
position.
Let me clarify something, even though God knows what we need to mold and shape us, it
doesn't mean He will deliver you out from every situation but He will help you bear
it.
And this misleading lie that God will deliver you out from any situation you're in is what's
causing people to stop believing and trusting in God.
Don't get me wrong, God is always with you, but sometimes his answers can be painful to
hear, but what He does allow to happen in your life is for a reason and can be used
for a greater purpose, He can turn all your losses into gains and all your suffering into
happiness.
He will not always save us from every fire but many time his deliverence is completely
different from the way we expected it to be.
God doesn't want to see us go through hard times, but He gives us the power to overcome
those situations.
You see God gives us some remarkable tools to be an active part to the solutions of our
problems and one of those tools is our mind.
Replace negative thoughts with positive ones.
Undertand that negativity has a big impact on your mood and actions, this is why its
so important to trust that God has a plan for you and always expect greatness, expect
that God will work miracles on your behalf.
It's important to trust in God during the good and the bad times, even when we don't
understand why He allows certain things to happen, even when you can't see the way it's
important to stay positive because your trust should be far beyond what God can do, you
see your trust should be on who God is.
God loves you no matter how you feel towards him.
We need to learn to trust on God and not are feelings because lets be honest we're very
emotional people and our mood can change in a second, but God is the same yesterday, the
same today, and the same forever,so when He promise you something like "Your faith will
be rewarded" you better believe He will not go back on his word.
You see trusting God is about putting his will over ours and no matter what situation
we're in, we know that God will help us go through it and that He has a great plan for
us which makes life worth living.
Faith is what most people struggle with and where you're going to be tested on, faith
and love is the foundation of your relationship with God.
Keep believing and let the Gospel give you life.
