Sewing Tutorial for Children's Corner Louise | Holiday Edition - Duration: 8:02.
Hey everyone, this CC lousie is super sweet and easy - perfect for a beginner, and honestly,
probably my new favorite pattern. The shape of the collar is so delightful.
So anywho, you'll cut out two bodice front pieces on the fold as well as four bodice
back pieces. Then you'll have four collar pieces and I have this velvet piping that
matches the velvet for the bodice. Everything is limited below as always. Finally – your
skirt piece or pieces. You'll see what I mean later on since I'm just using one large
piece of silk dupioni for my skirt. I'm a huge fan of no side seams whenever possible.
Annnd can we talk about this silk?? I am living! Seriously, I've had my eye on this stuff
for about two years, but it's a larger pattern, so it's not the best for baby sized clothing.
I love the colors – it would be great from a toddler dress to an adult dress and everything
in between. Anywho, to begin you'll take your bodice
front and match it up with the bodice back at the shoulder seams and then stitch those
together. You can iron open those seams and you'll repeat the same thing for the lining.
If you were omitting the collar, then you would sew the two together now.
But I think the collar is precious, so I'm taking two collar pieces and putting them
right sides together. I moved my needle over two spaces so I would have a ¼" seam when
the edge of my presser foot was next to the raw edge of the collar. I sew around the curve
carefully, just putting my needle down, turning, needle down, turning, over and over.
Then I trim up that seam a smidgen. And can we take a second to talk about the lighting
improvement in this video? I was able to order a big ring-light thanks to my patrons on patreon
and I'm loving the creamy improvement. Thank you, thank you.
So I turn the collar right sides out and kinda press that seam out with my fingers before
ironing it flat. Now since you really don't want a gap between the collars – an easy
way to avoid this is to baste the two collars together over the seam allowance area. So
in this case, the seam allowance is ¼" so I'm going over in that area with a large
zigzag – you want it to be easy to take out.
Next I lined up the center front of the bodice with the center front of the collar. I sewed
around the neckline to baste that in place. Once my collar was basted in place, then I
sandwiched it between the dress front and the lining, matching the shoulder seams. You'll
sew down one center back, around the neckline, and down the other center back. You'll also
sew down each armhole. Then you can trim up those seams and clip
the curves as needed. Clipping the curves allows the smaller diameter to open up so
it can match up to the larger diameter – so basically, if your neckline or armholes have
this undesired pulled look and won't lay flat, you need to clip the curves more.
Then I grabbed one back bodice section and pulled it through the front of the dress to
turn it right sides out and I repeat the same process for the other side. Honestly, it's
not the easiest to do with velvet, but it is do-able. Just take little bits and it'll
work. Then I took this little pointer tool, it's
linked below, and used that to push the corners out into a nice, neat point.
And then I gave everything a really good ironing. I find it's easiest to iron the bodice first
and then iron down the collar. Oh, and I just ripped out those little zigzag basting stitches
and trimmed them up. Next, I cut some of that velvet piping to
length and sewed it to the bodice front as well as the bodice backs. When you do those
backs, I just angle the piping off and leave a little bit so when I sew the lining of the
bodice down by hand later on, the lining will enclose the raw edges of the piping and it'll
just look like a smooth transition. An the ironed crease marks from earlier do a great
job of marking where to angle the piping off. Finally, I took the bodice of the dress and
sewed the side seams with right sides together. I'm just kinda turning it onto itself so
those right sides are together. And I'm leaving the lining out of this mix. I'll
repeat the same thing with the lining – that way both of those seams are touching each
other and hidden from both the dress front as well as dress lining sides. I hope all
of that makes sense. And no, even though I'm using white thread,
you aren't able to see it. Whenever possible, I use white thread since it's easier on
so many levels – one thing to buy, one thing to keep in stock, one thread to keep on your
machine, you get my drift… So
I trimmed up that piping and then I could set the bodice aside. Onto that skirt…
Can we talk about how delicious this fabric is? Ugh I can't get over it. Anywho… so
I took one panel from selvedge edge to selvedge edge – I believe it's around 60" wide,
can't remember. And you could definitely put box pleats in the skirt, I think I'll
do that with a spring look. But for now, I'm just putting two rows of gather stitches in
the top of the skirt – one row on either side of where your permenate stitches will
go later on. Okay, and I made a super easy placket by taking
advantage of that selvege edge still being intact. I just sewed down the center back,
leaving about three inches open for the placket. Then I'll turn the right sides under and
leave the left side flat (not folded). Then I gather up that skirt so it fits the bodice
and pin it just to the outside of the bodice – so leave that bodice lining out. Then
I sewed along attaching the bodice to the skirt.
Once that was done, I pulled out the visible gather thread and fold the raw edge of that
bodice lining under about ½" and iron that in place. I'll hand sew this raw edge down
later. Finally, I turned up the bottom edge of the
hem about ½" and again until it met one of those squares. But you could do so many
different hem options here – lace, trim, madeira hem, whatever floats your boat.
This was my finished dress, once I did that hand sewing, put some snaps in as closures
for that back opening, and hemmed my dress by hand.
I hope this video was helpful. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments
below and I'll do my best to answer them. As always, I appreciate y'all for watching
and I hope to catch ya next time.

He is so nice and kind to accept this collaboration with me!
The challenge is....!
P'Bank is going to send me 3 pictures
Then I'm going to look at each of them for 3 seconds before I get to draw each picture for 3 minutes!
Hope that you guys understand the rule.... xD
Without further ado.... Let's get started!
*BLANKSTATE* *me wanna cry T^T*
(I look at the timer btw ahhahha)
*Time ends!*
//frustrated!!!! T^T//
When I started to draw... I could not remember how to draw a pirate hat!
When I drew... it then came out as a cowboy hat!!!
Okay... the hair is still alright!
It flows towards this way just like the picture.
Oh! she also has a mold!
Then I remembered that there were some ornamental fringes! So I put them here at the bottom of her breast....
but they are actually at the top!
There are some here as well... Oh! I'm doing quite great here!
When I draw the gun this side, it's actually at the other side!
And.... Oh! At first I actually drew the bow here!
But I drew it like this...
Well..... that was a totally different kinds of bow lol
Anyway! My memory is actually not too bad....! I guess???
Not really... LOL
Let's see how will next one look like!!
I was pretty nervous with this first picture
I remembered that she has this outer dress
Correct!
And it falls to the arm
The bun! The bangs! And really really long hair to the floor!
There was also a watermelon!
OMG! I think I nail it!!! There aren't many details lol
The previous one was a nightmare, I could remember nothing
The thing that I didn't draw is this hand with handheld fan
Well, when I drew I remembered that...
...she ate something!!
And I remembered that there was a watermelon
but I couldn't remember how she ate it
So now I know that... SHE PUT THE STRAW IN IT TO DRINK THE JUICE!
Omggg I could not remember anythinggg
Anyway! This picture is actually pretty good!
I wish that the next one won't be that difficult
The level is fine!!
The level beyond this is too cruel... T^T
Okay, let's look at the next one!
Omg... P'Bank....
Okay...!
Let's compare this with the real picture T^T
P'Bank, this is way too hardddd
super super super super harddddddd
I just realised after I finished drawing her legs that her head actually lies on her knee!
But yeah, I did not have time to fix it!
Her pose is actually correct
There is something here too...
I couldn't draw her arm as well!
Her hair looks fine!
Her bangs is okay as well
OMG! This part is correct!
I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS HAPPY!!
She also has a cloth covering her head
I don't know how can it be this bad! Look at these!
Okay this is still bearable
*Crying*
You can comment and tell me whether I pass or fail this challenge! And don't forget to check P'Bank channel to see the challenge that I sent him!

These Lost Apollo Tapes Reveal How Astronauts Changed the Moon - Duration: 3:30.
Almost 50 years after the last mission to the moon, there are still questions the expeditions
didn't answer.
Now though thanks to some archival sleuthing, one of those mysteries has been solved and
it turns out the solution is… kinda dumb.
It all started when the Apollo 15 mission in 1971 and the Apollo 17 mission in 1972
buried some platinum thermometers in the lunar surface.
They were planted at different depths, from a meter to two-and-a-half meters down.
The goal was to see how heat flowed from the interior of the moon out to the surface, which
would help scientists learn about the moon's interior, like if it had a hot core like the
Earth and the rate of internal geologic activity.
But they found something they didn't expect: when astronauts visited the moon they may
have altered its temperature -- just by being there.
Although they didn't figure that out until recently.
4.
The thermometers reported a gradual uptick in temperature by one and a half to three
and a half degrees celsius, and nobody could pin down exactly why.
A few things could be eliminated right away, like the sun.
Even though temperatures on the moon swing wildly over a lunar day, the probes were deep
enough in the lunar soil to avoid the sun's effect.
It also couldn't be the probes' power source, as the thermoelectric generators were
far enough away from the thermometers to rule them out.
But there were still other possibilities, like fluctuations in the moon's orbit, radiation
from Earth, or maybe some lasting effect from the astronauts.
We didn't know because of a bureaucratic whoopsie.
The thing is, each of these probes beamed back temperature data for years.
The data were recorded on 7-track magnetic tapes, which were then analyzed and archived.
But when the experiment ended in 1977, only tapes up to 1974 had been analyzed and stored
away. The rest from 1975 to 1977 were lost, And it wasn't until 2010 that NASA started
searching for old mission data from Apollo and other programs, and lordy were there tapes.
Researchers discovered 440 of them had somehow wound up at the Washington National Records
Center, presumably right next to where they keep the Arc of the Covenant.
440 tapes sounds like a lot, but it's less than 10% of the missing data, and what was
found was badly degraded.
In another stroke of luck they found weekly logs of the probe's temperatures during
the missing years at the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston.
So, after eight years of searching and analyzing they finally had all the pieces of the puzzle.
The new data showed that the probes kept warming all the way until their demise in 1977, and
the ones closer to the surface warmed first, meaning the heat was coming from above and
slowly penetrating downward.
That made one scenario the most likely fit: humans did it.
A quick peek at pictures of the landing sites taken by a probe currently orbiting the moon
revealed how.
Turns out setting up those experiments on the moon involved a lot of shuffling about.
That kicked up the bright shiny dust on the moon's surface, exposing darker soil beneath.
That darker soil absorbed more sunlight, causing the thermometers to record higher temperatures.
So after all this time, it was just us.
As soon as we set foot on the moon we were warming it up.
Typical humans.
This also means the act of installing the instruments muddled the results of the heat
flow experiments.
But knowing where we went wrong will help us design future missions.
Maybe we'll keep this in mind when we're kicking up Martian dust one day in the far
future.
Thanks for watching, be sure to subscribe.
If you could move to the moon, would you?
You'd probably have to live in a cave…
Lunar Real Estate Agent, Trace explains this crazy plan here.
One last thing: We could take pictures of the astronauts tracks today because there's
no wind or water on the moon to erode them.
Ok I'm out but I'll see you next time on Seeker.
