How to Make a "Don't Hurt Mario" Level in Super Mario Maker! - Duration: 9:59.
Recently an archaeological breakthrough happened.
A couple of holidaying goombas stumbled over an old ancient tomb completely by accident.
Located near world 2-2.
As it turns out, this tomb, is no ordinary tomb, but the last resting place of the ancient
king Dontgethitamun.
The sensation was perfect.
But as it turns out, the tomb is actually cursed.
Every wound inflicted in this tomb, is lethal.
Even the slightest cut, has deadly consequences.
Rumors say, that the mummy of the old king dontgethitamun still roams through the depths
of the grave, causing the curse.
So the mushroom government decided to handle this situation, like they handle basically
every situation.
They decided to send mario into the grave, to investigate the the curse.
Today we will follow mario into the grave, we will add a new entry, onto our dangerous
list of evil and we will take a look at a couple of evil ancient traps, that all work
because of amazing new global loading quantum trickery.
So are you ready?
Let's do this!
So first we will follow mario through the tomb, and afterwards we will take a look at
what's going on in the background.
The first thing, our tomb raiding plumber does today, is to eat the delicious fire flower
that lives in front of the grave, and then he is ready to enter it.
Once inside, the entrance collapses, and mario is entrapped.
This entrance room is pretty unspectacular, all that's inside, are a couple of brick
blocks, and some spikes.
It looks like mario decided to jump into the spikes first.
That's really nice of him, because this way we are able to find out whether it is
true that each damage is lethal here.
As it turns out, it is.
Every time mario takes damage here, the floor collapses, because of the evil wrath of the
ancient king.
Wow, it looks like dontgethitamun is really grumpy.
Anyway, so if Mario wants to lift the curse, he first needs to find the five red coins
that are hidden in the tomb.
The first red coin is in this room, at first glance this one seems to be really easy to
reach, but mario has to be careful, because as soon as he enters this room, a shelmet
trap is triggered, and he needs to be careful to not to collapse the whole floor by running
into the ouching helmet.
Next the path diverges, there is a narrow path to his right.
But should our tomb raiding plumber take this path.
He has seen enough indiana jones movies to know that walking through narrow corridors
in an ancient cursed tomb is a really bad idea.
It could trigger a boulder trap.
He decides to take the path anyway, which leads him to his second red coin and no boulder
trap is triggered while he walks in.
Hooray!
That's because the boulder trap triggers while leaving.
Suddenly this surprisingly cannonball shaped boulder rolls towards mario.
He only manages to dodge it in the last possible second.
Whoof.
Next Mario enters this area, I just want to quickly take the time to point out, that despite
what you are expecting, mario doesn't become entrapped in here.
See, he is totally able to leave again, he isn't entrapped.
Nothing is entrapping him here.
Okay?
I just thought I'd take the time to point this out, for no reason at all.
The next red coin is in this little hole.
Once Mario collected it he is totally able to leave this area ag…
"Oh no" it appears as if mario became entrapped here as soon as he collected the
red coin.
Who could have known!
So marios only chance here is to proceed deeper into the evil cursed tomb.
Luckily for our plumber there is an ancient mechanism hidden to his right, that allows
him to open up the closed door again.
All that he needs to do, is to hit this question block, for the door to his far left to open
again.
Hooray!
That was the third of five red coins, two missing, mario probably missed some earlier
in the level.
Hm.
Here are a couple of suspicious bullet blasters that seem to block some sort of path, and
another path upwards.
The path upwards seems to lead nowhere, strange.
Maybe there is something hidden in the first room.
It is!
As it turns out Mario is able to reveal a hidden chamber by breaking these brick blocks.
This chamber contains an arrow trap, that constantly shoots surprisingly cannonball
shaped arrows and the fourth red coin.
Only one left.
The last red coin is hidden where the bullet blasters were before.
These bullet blasters magically disappeared after mario climbed to the top before, and
now reveal the path to the last and final red coin.
Hooray!
Now our tomb raiding plumber is finally able to face dontgethitamun.
But why is dontgethitamun so angry.
What happened that made the ancient king curse the grave.
What is causing his wrath.
In this room Mario finally faces the old ancient ruler.
Oh, … but wait a second.
Dontgethitamun is glitched.
Oh no, poor ancient king, has he been sitting in this lonely room for thousands of years,
wiggling around like crazy because he is glitched.
Wow, that's awful.
No wonder that he is so angry!
Luckily mario is able to relieve him from this glitched state.
All that our plumber has to do is to jump off of his head three times in a row, for
a pow block to get triggered, and for dontgethitamun to finally find peace.
Hooray!
Okay so how did everything in this stage work?
Well it's actually surprisingly simple!
We make heavy use of a lot of really weird global loading tricks.
So let's start with the simple stuff.
So why does the tomb close as soon as mario enters it.
Well we are able to precisely test for marios horizontal position by using a couple of really
neat quirks in smm.
So first, most enemies and entities despawn once the camera is more than four blocks away
of them.
But there are a couple of exceptions.
Shells for example only despawn once the camera is 16 blocks away.
If an item is on top of a firebar, a p-switch that spawned out of a question block or an
item on tracks then it is on global ground and only despawns if the room is reloaded.
We use blue platforms on tracks most of the time in order to create global ground.
And that's basically how we close the entrance once mario reaches this tile.
When the game is loaded, this contraption gets loaded.
The shell and the pow block are on global ground, and never despawn, but the one way
door despawns as soon as mario is four blocks away from it.
As it turns out this is exactly this tile, which means as soon as mario stands here,
the one way door disappears, while the pow and shell stay loaded, which activates the
pow, and drops the blaster down.
Super simple isn't it!
The shell trap works the same way, here this one way door despawns as soon as mario enters
this room, which makes the horrific shell travel towards him.
The reason why the blasters disappear once mario climbed this tower is even simpler!
Once Mario is at the top, these, note blocks are inside the camera boundary which allows
them to drop the munchers which lived inside them, onto a blue platform which is global
ground.
Now the munchers on global ground occupy one of the spots where the blasters usually spawn.
When mario leaves this area, the blasters despawn, but the munchers don't, so the
next time mario reaches this area the blasters can't appear, because a bunch of munchers
occupied their home.
The boulder trap just uses classic boring spawn blocking.
The first time the cannon is loaded it's spawn is blocked by a block block.
Then bob omb boom, cannon able to load, hooray!
We've seen this before!
What we haven't seen before is the way we lock the entrance once mario collects the
red coin in this room, and how we open the exit up again once mario hits this question
block.
If dare to say so, I'm usually against favoritism, but if I was forced to name my favorite contraption
ever, it might be this one.
There are so many strange quirks perfectly playing together to make this possible.
I love it.
So here is what happens.
The bullet blaster that entrapps mario is spawn blocked at first.
There is a shell, that becomes activated as soon as mario jumps into this pit, this shell
now travels on global ground towards the blaster.
The blaster is currently on vacation, and not loaded because it's working contract
only requires him to work when mario is no more than four blocks away of the camera,
because of this, this shell destroys the brick block that was spawn blocking the blaster
before and now mario is trapped.
We've seen this before, but what's really cool about this design, is that we are able
to spawn block the blaster again.
If Mario hits this question block another shell travels on top of global ground towards
the blaster that currently doesn't exist.
This shell hits a spring, and then triggers this invisible block.
And yup, this block is triggerable even though he isn't loaded.
The next time mario walks back to the blaster, the blaster is once again spawn blocked, no
longer able to load, and probably pretty confused by now.
That's fantastic isn't it!
Okay so finally why does everything collapse in this stage if mario gets any sort of damage.
First shoutout to smash boss, he uploaded a vid a while ago where he showcased a don't
lag the game contraption.
Our contraption is a slightly adopted version of his design, and the credits for finding
this really belong to him!
So how does it work.
Well it's super clever.
The star of this contraption are those pow blocks.
One pow on tracks, and one on top of it.
Every item on an item on tracks stays globally loaded.
So here this pow, this pow and the blaster on top of it are loaded at all times.
The same is true for this shell, and this muncher.
The shell is blocked by the blaster, if the blaster weren't there, it would activate
this block and trigger a p-switch.
What happens is, that the blaster despawns, if the game lags slightly.
Here's what happens.
If a pow block is on a pow block on tracks, then there is a super small gap between them,
when the blaster moves downwards.
If the game lags, like it does when mario picks up an item, or takes damage, then this
tiny gap, becomes a tiny bit less small for a second, and for a moment, the second pow
isn't on top of the first one anymore.
This tiny timeframe is enough to despawn the pow and the blaster, since they aren't on
an item on tracks anymore for a couple of frames after taking damage.
We need this design twice, so that there is always a pow moving down, and as soon as the
camera is four blocks away, this setup starts to work, and triggers a p-switch when the
game lags.
That's the whole trick, amazing isn't it!?
So that's it for don't get hit and for global loading in super mario maker.
I hope you wonderful ladies and gentleman enjoyed this little video, if you did don't
forget to leave me a thumbs up and maybe you feel especially curse breaking today and want
to hit the subscribe button as well.
I hope that all of you have a wonderful day and to see you soon.
Goodbye!

Veit Wilde VS Tobi von kanalgratis | YouTube Predator Cup 2018 - Duration: 26:32.
3 counting fish
The YouTube Predator Cup 2018 is going
to be presented by DUO germany
Angeljoe and BassBrigade
One of the most famous Zander Anglers in
germany is going to fish
for his YouTube Channel: Fishing TackleMax
After he could win against Chris from Tideritter.de
he needs to fish against
Tobias Ekvall today
Born in Magdeburg, his Zander personal best
is 105cm
In our poll, many of the visitors
named Veit as the winner of this
Cup, he is the favorite.
Not that famous in germany, but
still an great Angler
Tobias Ekvall is going to fish
for the swedish YouTube Channel: kanalgratis.de
He cuts and films Videos and
series like Perch Pro
but also Series like Fly vs. Jerk
But he also has an own
series at this Channel.
His city of origin is Eksjö, we
don't know whether we pronounced it right ;)
He is a passionate perch Fisherman
His personal best perch
was about 53cm length
and 2.75kg, he caught this one this year
So todays match is going to
be a match between a Zander specialist and
a perch Pro!
Very welcome dear visitors
It is very early this morning
because at first we are going to fish for Zander
Veit Wilde is going to fish against Tobias Ekvall
Fishing Tackle Max against kanalgratis.se
Veit you are under pressure...
yes because it is the perfect time for Zander
okay, Veit is going to decide the spots as first
after 3 hours
Tobias will decide them
Both Anglers, fishing from the riverside
now have until 6 hours, to catch
their 3 measurable fish for
their scoreboard (no deadbaits allowed)
Pike's length is going to be
multiplicated with 1
Zander gets multiplied with 1.3
and perch length is going to be multiplied with 2.4
You can find the link to the whole rules
down below in the video description
fish on!
first fish
As you can see
the Stinger works perfect
65cm
very nice!
Amazing! After only 5 minutes Veit
was able to catch the first big
Zander
This 65cm Zander saves him 84.5 points
for the scoreboard
How affected will Tobi be?
better one
For this spot pretty normal
about... 56cm
Also the second fish is caught by Veit
This 56cm large Zander saves him
72.5 points
and Veit can extend his lead!
Number three
This was my goal, to catch 3 fish
Caught at my new bait
by Seika Pro, catchy flake
is really catchy
55cm
Congratulations Veit
Thanks
Whether it is the technique or the
bait, after short time Veit can extend
the lead and starts this match
phenomenal
Tobi is still blank
This 55cm large Zander brings
him 71.5 points to the scoreboard
All in all his scorebard
is stuffed with 228.8 points
The only positive aspect for Tobi is,
that he has plenty of time left
to catch minimum 3 fish
Based on the Baits Tobi employs
I can see that he fishes the first time at this spot
I don't mean this derogatory
but I think he is not well prepared
but yesterday I offered him to
visit this spot with me
We could also fish a little bit, but
he didn't want to
In my opinion
a good preparation is connected to
those Battles.
If I know the water, sure I have
a big advantage
but if I don't know the water, I
would fish there for at least 5 days beforehand
and
get some Informations about the water
but his strategy is dangerous
He now uses a good bait
Good colour
but
as I said
he fishes to aggressive
and he
needs to fish
further out
Tobi first fish!
After Tobi switched to a Spinrod with
a spinning reel, he could throw wider
he now can fish at the edge where
the Zander are
His first bite, emphasized as the biggest one in
the Competition
This 69cm large Zander
saves him 89.7 points at the scoreboard
All in all 228.8 to 89.7
He is now better prepared
and I also calculated that
he will catch some fish..
Veit, you decided to change the spot, where
will we go at?
We will not go far away
where the water is more shallow then here
I hope that I can catch a big perch there
This is not going to be easy, but
it is also not impossible
Some days ago I caught a 48cm one there
There will be not that many bites
and also some pikes
To be honest I also calculated with a pike
at this spot
This didn't worked
now the sun comes out
and my experience is
when the sun comes out
it is very hard to catch
a pike
The last days it was way easier, but
it was very cloudy
In the last minutes until we will change the spot
I will still try to catch a pike
but then
I will focus on perch
okay
They second spot
Tobi inspects this spot and also
look which Lures Veit choose
yes a pike
now I need very much luck
I wanted a perch and catch a pike
This is not a bad one, problem is
that I fish with a very thin Fluro Carbon leader
It is just a bream
nothing for my scoreboard
As you can see the fish are there
I didn't want to take him out
The first fish at this new spot is not
a predator, and this bream is not
regulary hooked
But straight after this fish, the
next Angler calls: fish on!
The biggest perch of this Battle is
a wonderful fish
about 45cm
Multiplicated with 2.4, this perch
saves Tobias 108 points for his scoreboard
228.8 points against 197.7 points
Can Tobi catch the third fish and
get in the lead?
After this exciting first halftime
the Anglers just needed to regenerate
and now it is Tobis turn to decide
where to fish.
But he still wants to fish at the same spot
Maybe he tries to catch another
good perch
For Tobi this was a sensational start
in the 2nd half
Sure, this is no perch, but
this pike is the sum of his persistance
This fish saves Tobias the lead and he
can be really happy
Who thought about this, after Veit's
amazing start in the morning!
Veit we just calculated
106cm pike or a 44cm perch would bring you
back in leading
but also
2 Zanders about 69cm
That are your chances to
turn the match around
Yes, this is pretty difficult
but not impossible
I think the most propable is the perch
But with this shining sun and the
calm water
this is not easy
But I am pretty calm, because he didn't
know the water and performed very very well
and if you are the first time at this water
and instantly catch 3 fish
a win would be well deserved to be honest
I am pretty impressed,
this was a very good Job
Who catches up this hard
this is well deserved
bit I will still try my best
This is definetily an improvement
I used a really thin line
Now I am wishing a steal leader
this one was very good
cutted the line
my bad
this is so hard
All the days before
we caught the pikes with the same thin leader
and now
this happens
****
sorry
The last spot is in the harbour
Why did Tobi choose this spot?
Yesterday we were in this harbour
and this is
where I met Tobi for the first time
and we caught some Zander
but now they were not biting
I don't know why, but
I think because of the sun
Sun and Zander is not a good combo
Thatswhy I thought I go
to this riverside
and hope for a big perch..
This really really exciting match
is now over
we saw many good fish today
Thank you for the nice spots
no problem
Tobias was the better fisherman in todays match
Make sure to check out Veit's Channel

10.
Anders' View from Afar We've all seen a sunrise at some point in
our life, but so few have witnessed what's been called an "Earthrise."
This striking image was taken by Major William A. Anders, a lunar module pilot aboard the
Apollo 8 mission on December 24th, 1968.
It was part of a series of the first images of Earth from deep space, which puts in perspective
how small life on Earth really is.
The "Earthrise" photo was recognized in Life magazine's "100 Photographs that Changed the
World."
9.
Nicephore Niepce's View from Le Gras It doesn't look like much right now, but Nicephore
Neipce's "View from the Window at Le Gras" is a 19th-century piece that, for its time,
was a historic milestone.
The image, which looks more like a distorted image from an early rover mission, is actually
the first instance of camera photography.
To snag the image, Niepce used a long exposure of around eight hours and a pewter plate coated
with Bitumen of Judea, a natural asphalt.
The asphalt hardened in the light but remained soluble in the darker areas of the photo,
making it easy to wash away with oil of lavender and white petroleum.
8.
Annette Kellerman's Indecency Can you imagine looking at this photograph
of record-holding swimmer Annette Kellerman and thinking it was, in any way, indecent
or crude?
Things were quite a bit different in the early 20th century, which is why, after appearing
on Boston's Revere Beach in a modest one-piece bathing suit that bore her legs, she was arrested.
She didn't let the arrest slow her down, however, as she continued to advocate for a woman's
right to wear a one-piece, as seen in this popular photograph from a 1907 photoshoot.
It depicts an unwavering Kellerman fighting what she thought was "the good fight."
7.
Manhattan's First Though same-sex marriage or the concept of
has been around as far back as ancient Egypt, it wasn't until 2011 that the Big Apple saw
its first.
Phyllis Siegel and Connie Koelov of Chelsea, New York tied the knot in the city's first
same-sex marriage and this iconic image captures the happy moment.
Sure, it was far from the last marriage performed in the city, but there's no recreating that
powerful moment when one of the nation's most important cities reaches such a social milestone.
6.
1936 Loyalist Militiaman Also known as "The Falling Soldier," this
memorable and historical image, taken by Robert Capa, is said to depict the death of a militiaman
for the Iberian Federation of Libertarian Youth in 1936.
The issue with the photo is that, though it's been acclaimed as one of the most important
photos of its time, some claim it was staged.
Still, at a time when it was believed to be undeniably real, the image depicted war in
its rawest form.
5.
The Hindenburg It's an image that, once you see, you never
forget.
The 1937 disaster of the Hindenburg passenger airship essentially ended passenger airship
travel, and this image depicting the vessel up in flames definitely didn't help.
It's one of the earliest shots of the disaster as no footage of the fire actually starting
ever surfaced.
In total, 35 people were killed in the incident, including 13 passengers and 22 crewmen.
4.
The Napalm Girl of 1972 It's worth noting that the subject of this
photograph, Phan Thi Kim Phuc, is alive and well today, but at the time of this Pulitzer
Prize-winning image, there was question if she'd survive the napalm burns.
After a South Vietnamese napalm attack, Associated Press photographer Nick Ut captured an image
of victims running from the fire, among them a naked nine-year-old Phan Thi Kim Phuc.
Though American support for the war in Vietnam had long-since swayed, such a striking and
memorable photograph further strengthened opposition.
3.
The Storming of Normandy There have been so many depictions of the
invasion on Normandy across video games and movies that it would be understandable if
we're numb to the reality of it.
Then we glimpse this 1944 image snapped by Robert Capa.
The off-focus look, which was the product of an overeager lab assistant, adds to the
chaotic realism of the photo and the Normandy landings.
The image inspired Stephen Spielberg's production of Saving Private Ryan - as the director ordered
camera lenses be stripped of their coating to try and capture the same exposure of Capa's
image.
2.
The Sudanese Child of 1994 South African photojournalist Kevin Carter
was the man behind the lens responsible for snapping this image of a Sudanese girl being
stalked by a vulture.
Not only did the image show the horrors plaguing third-world countries, it was one of many
powerful images that did Carter in.
On July 27th, 1994, three months after taking the Pulitzer Prize-winning picture, Carter
took his own life, leaving behind a note that said "The pain of life overrides the joy to
the point that joy does not exist."
1.
The Field of the Dead at Gettysburg In 1863, photographer Mathew Brady took to
the battlefields of Gettysburg to capture the true outcome of war.
Brady was hailed as one of the world's first war photographers and this picture of dead
soldiers lining Gettysburg would forever ingrain him into American history.
Beyond Brady, the picture also helped the divided nation really feel the effects of
the war and what was ultimately at stake.

Latinx-a-thon Recommendations - Duration: 10:27.
Hey y'all, my name is Yvette and welcome to my channel. Today
I'm giving you some book recommendations for the Latinx-a-thon,
which is a week-long read-a-thon that I am
co-hosting, that focuses on books by Latinx authors or books with Latinx main characters.
I will leave a link down below to my announcement video where you can find all the information you need for the Latinx-a-thon.
Also something to know is that my other co-hosts and I want to make sure that we got out as many recommendations
as possible to help y'all with your TBRs. Seeing as we've read and loved a lot of the same books,
we didn't want to keep repeating the same books over and over and over in our recommendation videos.
There might be a couple of repeat books that you see between our videos,
but for the most part, we coordinated our recommendations so that we're all recommending different books.
So make sure to go check out my other co-hosts' recommendation videos.
I'll make sure to link them down below as well
once they're posted. This read-a-thon has four challenges and I'll be giving at least one recommendation for each challenge.
But before we get into that, I want to quickly go over the challenges to give my recommendations some context.
The first challenge is
Voices. Read a book that features an indigenous or Afro-Latinx main character or a book that is written by an indigenous or after
afro-Latinx author
The second challenge is Pride.
Read a book featuring a queer Latinx main character or a book that's written by a queer Latinx author.
The third challenge is Roots. Read a
translated book or a book that features more than one language. The fourth and last challenge is Heritage.
Read a book that's written by an author from a non Spanish-speaking country or heritage.
My first recommendation is going to be Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro.
This is a YA contemporary by a queer Latinx author featuring a queer and afro-Latinx main character,
so this can go for both the pride and the voices challenge.
This book is about a teenager named Moss who's dealing with his school becoming more and more militarized.
This is particularly difficult for Moss because he saw his father get shot by a police officer when he was younger and now he has
anxiety associated with police officers.
There comes a point in the novel where enough becomes enough
and him and his friends decided to do something about their school becoming more and more militarized.
This book has a wonderfully diverse cast when it comes to race, gender, sexuality, and disabilities and it deals with
systemic oppression, police brutality, and protest. It's about how it's okay to be angry at injustice
and how you can use your anger to start change. Anger is a Gift is a book that really touched me and one that was really
relevant and cathartic at a time where I get really angry when I watch the news for any length of time. If you want to
know more about this book and you don't mind spoilers, I did do a reading vlog for this.
I'll leave it down in the description box below.
I go deeper into the themes and what happens in the book and what it means to me.
My next recommendation is A Tiny Piece of Something Greater by Jude Sierra.
This is an adult contemporary by a queer Brazilian author with two queer main characters., one of whom is Brazilian.
So this fulfills two prompts: pride and heritage. And also this book is own voices for mental health
representation. A Tiny Piece of Something Greater is the kind of quiet summer
contemporary where nothing really happens and it's a lot more character focused.
It's about a guy dealing with a mood disorder and recovering from self-harm. one summer
this guy decides to go live in his grandmother's condo to get away from some stuff
that's not affecting his mental health very well. And while he's there he decides to take a scuba class and
he falls in love with this scuba instructor. The thing I love about this book is how
soft and loving the relationship was between the two main characters.
They are so careful with each other and considerate of each other's feelings.
And I'm just at a loss of how to describe how sweet these two characters are together.
They would just a joy to read. Also,
this is a very personal book for the author because she gave one of the main characters the same mood disorder that she has and
she really goes in depth what it's like day-to-day living with this mood disorder.
In the end, one of the messages that I really loved about this book is that no matter what mental illness you have,
you're still deserving of love and happiness and health.
My next recommendation is The House of Impossible Beauties by Joseph Cassara.
This book is an adult historical fiction novel written by a queer Latinx author
featuring a queer Latinx main character.
It also has Spanish words and phrases like
sprinkled throughout the text, so it can count for both the pride challenge and the roots challenge.
This book takes place in the New York ball scene of the 80s and 90s and it follows the founding members of the House of
Extravaganza, which is the first all Latino House.
We see them as children and follow them as they grow up and meet each other and
find a community and a family in each other when the one they were born into you wouldn't accept them for who they are.
This book is one huge emotional gut punch and I love it so much.
It goes through a really important time in recent queer history and it portrays these characters so
wonderfully and respectfully if you plan on picking this up just...
I would recommend
emotionally and mentally preparing yourself because it does have some difficult content.
This book takes place at the height of the AIDS epidemic,
so obviously that's something that the characters have to deal with, but there are also a bunch of other trigger warnings.
Trigger warnings for graphic sexual assault, underage prostitution,
gay bashing and violence against trans women, drug addiction, and suicide.
Those are the big ones that I can think of. If you want to know more about this book,
I did do a full non-spoiler review of it, which I'll link down below.
My next recommendation is Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova.
This is a YA urban fantasy featuring a bisexual main character. So this will complete the pride challenge.
This book follows a teenage bruja named Alex who is on the brink of her death Day ceremony,
which is basically a coming-of-age ceremony that will allow her to fully embrace her powers.
However,
she does not want these powers and decides to cast a spell to get rid of them, and
in doing so, instead of getting rid of her powers,
she accidentally sends her whole entire family to Los Lagos,
which is an underworld, limbo, other world kind of place and Alex has to go there to rescue them.
I feel like I talk about this book both not enough and too much.
It's a book that represents me in a way that I always wanted representation.
It's a fun fast-paced adventure with family and love and fighting monsters,
and if you're looking for something quick and light to read, I'd recommend Labyrinth Lost.
Next up is Ultimate Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis.
And this is a Marvel graphic novel that has an afro-Latinx main character
So it would fulfill the voices challenge. This one will be a great pick for this read-a-thon
not only because it's a graphic novel and a quick read, but also because you don't need a lot of knowledge and comics to read it.
This book takes place in the Ultimate universe, which is an entirely different universe/
reality from the main Marvel comics universe and plus it's an origin story
so really, minimal knowledge of comics is necessary to read this. In this, a
thirteen-year-old boy named Miles Morales gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gets powers.
It's a fun, action-y
read about a kid who's just trying to do his best and trying to do what's right.
If comics really aren't your jam, but you're still interested in Miles Morales,
he also has a YA novel about him written by Jason Reynolds. In this novel,
Miles's powers are on the fritz and he's struggling with balancing his life and being a superhero. In particular,
there's this racist history teacher that he has to deal with and overall, this book has themes of race and systemic oppression.
I love this book, mostly because I love anything that Jason Reynolds puts out, but I do want to give a heads-up to anyone
who's interested in picking this book up that this book really reads more [like] a novel about racism and oppression,
through the lens of a superhero story rather than a straight-up superhero story. So those are my main
recommendations for not the Latinx-a-thon, but now I want to give a few additional recommendations of some books that are
popular and that you might have already heard of but I still want to mention anyways. First its anything by Benjamin Alire Saenz.
This is a queer Latinx author, so anything he writes would count for the pride challenge.
We have Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, which is what I would call a Booktube Darling.
This is a YA contemporary coming-of-age story about two
Mexican-american boys and their relationship. We also have the Inexplicable Logic of My Life,
which is another coming-of-age YA contemporary about a boy who is adopted by a gay
Mexican-American father and it just takes us through his senior year, dealing with loss and grief. And it is an
absolutely gorgeous book. It had me tearing up at times which is not something that a book can do easily.
Another one is the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reids.
And this is another book that I would call a Booktube Darling That is well deserved the hype.
This follows a bisexual Cuban-American, so this would complete the pride challenge.
This is about a woman telling her life story and going through her experiences with love, scandal, and
making it to the top by any means necessary. And last but not least is Julia Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera.
This book is a YA contemporary about a queer Latinx girl from the Bronx exploring
Intersectional feminism and it's written by a queer Latinx author,
so this would also count for the pride challenge. And this is a book that I desperately needed when I was younger
but that I still enjoy it as an adult.
So those are my recommendations
for the Latinx-a-thon.
I hope this video helps you shape up your TBR for this read-a-thon or for Hispanic Heritage Month or just in general.
I hope you enjoyed this video. Thank you for watching and I'll see you next time

My current deaf devices|| DEAF AWARENESS DAY 8 - Duration: 6:51.
Hello all you sonsy folks and welcome to a new deaf awareness video
before we get in to this video I just want to say two things
Number one
I am not entirely keen on this backdrop that I have going on at the moment
but I'm currently decluttering my house
And my living room is taking most of the clutter that needs to be sent away to charity shops and stuff
so I don't really have many places within my living room where I can film
And my bedroom is kind of in the middle of being painted so I can't really film in there either
so
Probably for the foreseeable future. This will be the backdrop as much as I don't like it
I'm just gonna have to leave it at this because I can't think of anything else
Or any other area in my house that I can use just now
But that will change in the future once I've managed to declutter and finish painting etc
Number two. I am aware that I have a mark on my waistcoat.
I saw my nephew earlier on. He had a banana
Some of it went on the floor, some of it went in his mouth and rest went on my top
It's just what happens when there's little kids around unfortunately,
but yeah, I'm just going to film with it anyway because
Hey, that's life
{Intro music}
So in yesterday's very rushed video
I showed you one of my listening devices and I couldn't show you the other one because I couldn't find it
But I have found it now, and this is my
CMB -T2
And this is what I currently use for listening to music and making phone calls
Now I am not a phone call kind of person
They make me extremely anxious because 99% of the time I cannot hear what is being said in phone calls
so if you ever hear me mentioning phone calls in any of my videos, you can safely assume that it is probably
A)
to my husband who I do not mind asking to repeat himself 50 times
Or B) It's a situation where I couldn't get out of phone call, for example
My husband does most of my phone calls but in some situations
they require to speak with me for a few minutes to make sure that
I have given my consent for him to speak on my behalf for the rest of the conversation
So
These can be really, really helpful for phone calls. That's just not really what I use it for as much
On occasion yeah
OMy primary use for this CMB-T2 is listening to music
Now I should probably explain a little bit to how this works
You basically just wear around your neck and you turn it on. It comes with a charger
and also comes with on in the car charger
which is really handy in case the battery runs out while you're on the go
And you just
Turn it on, like I said and
connect it to the T-setting on your hearing aids and then you turn on the Bluetooth on your phone
And it will automatically connect to the device and connect to the T-setting
so that you can listen to music and make calls through your T-loop setting
And this has been such a game changer for me
Headphones are not my friend
I struggle to find headphones that comfortably fit over my hearing aids and
And that do not cause that horrible feedback that you get when something's too close to your hearing aids
I can wear in the ear headphones although they do have a habit of just popping out all the time
And the other thing with in the ear headphones is that I have to take my hearing aids out which if I'm
Traveling on the train or the bus or something is a bit of a hassle
Whereas with this you just turn on connect it to the T loop setting and voila
music right to your ears
plus
With this nobody can hear of your music like they can with earphones and headphones so you can have it as loud as you want
bonus
Both of the devices in this video were purchased from the action on hearing loss website
This was 75 pounds, which it is rather expensive considering what I use it for
But I imagine if you're going to be using it for music and for making phone calls
Then you will probably get your money's worth out of it
And the other device that I wanted to talk about is this one
This is my mini tech plus
portable personal
listener
Try saying that 10 times fast
Again, this connects to the T-loop setting on your hearing aids and you can either hold it or clip it onto your top
Or place it on the table and it helps to a erase background noise
I find it works best for me when I hold it and point it at the person that is speaking
Now, this is great for social situations where there is a lot of background noise and chatter
The downside is that it's not so good outside because it does
Tend to pick up the wind on the little microphone at the top and you get that kind of crackling noise
but for indoor social situations, it's really helpful and
And this was 70 pounds
which is actually on the cheaper side when it comes to conversation listeners
And the good thing about this is that you can change the tone on it
so you can either boost or lower the bass
which for somebody with no tone awareness such as myself is really helpful
And those are my current d/Deaf devices
I am planning on getting a doorbell for the d/Deaf
And also a new vibrating alarm clock because I did have one
But I appear to have lost it when we were moving
I would totally recommend both of these devices, but obviously
I personally get more use out of this the CMB-T2
Can never remember the name of that one
That's probably because I am not a very sociable person
But I do have a couple of parties coming up and weddings coming up
So it will be interesting to test the mini tech plus out there and see how that works for me
If you are interested in purchasing either of these items, then I will leave the links in the description box for them
I'm not sure if action on hearing loss ships outside of the UK
But I imagine if you're in another country, you could probably find something similar in your own country
That is all for this video today
Please remember to like and subscribe and turn on notifications, and I hope to see you in my next video.
Bye for now
