Waching daily Sep 9 2018

Hey guys, Adam here with americanmuscle.com.

Today, we're taking a closer look at installing and dynoing our Bama Rev-X by SCT 2-custom

tune tuner available for the 2018 Mustang GT with the manual transmission.

Now, if you're the owner of that '18 GT, you might be looking to pick up some horsepower

and torque with an extremely easy to use handheld tuner with two custom tunes perfect for your

specific vehicle.

This option from Bama by SCT gives you a number of different ways to monitor your engine vitals,

a coolant temp, air-intake temp, air-fuel ratio so on and so forth.

So you get to monitor live data on the dashboard on the fly within arm's reach of the driver's

seat.

Now, those two custom tunes we are getting with this so will include the 87-octane tune

or 87 performance, as well as the 93 race for a 93-octane tune.

Now, that'll give you a good option for the street with 87 and 91 but you're also getting

a really good 93-specific tune to pick up the most power that you can make with this

particular tuner.

Now, when it comes to getting this for your own Mustang, you can do so for just about

400 bucks, which again, it's a really common price tag for custom tuners like this one

here.

All right guys, so we strapped down our 2018 Mustang GT to the dyno and we ran our baseline

numbers just to see what it's making from the factory and we came out with 424 horsepower

and 385 foot-pounds of torque.

We then uploaded our 93-race tune, strapped it back down to the dyno, just to see what

our maximum amount of gains we could get.

It looks like, after we strapped it down, we ran the 93 octane and we came out with

12 horsepower and 9 foot-pounds of torque for peak gains.

Now, obviously, those numbers are high single digits, low double digits, but the curve gains

are really what's the impressive feat here.

Now, curve gains, we're looking at 18 horsepower and 25 foot-pounds of torque under the curve.

25 foot-pounds of torque is something you will definitely feel off the line, but low-end

torque is something you're really gonna feel out on the street, especially if you're doing

more street driving.

Now, if you wanna get this installed on your Mustang, one out of three wrenches on our

difficulty meter, 20 to 30 minutes tops if this is the first time you're using this for

your Mustang.

Pairing the device will take a little bit longer but again 30 minutes at the most here.

All right guys, since we're in the car here, I wanna show you guys some of the features

of the Rev-X by SCT tuner from Bama.

We've got this plugged into our OBD-II port, the other ends gonna go right into the top

here and it'll kick on.

All right, as soon as it boots up, you'll go right to the main menu here.

You get a few different options to choose from, program vehicle is pretty straight forward,

that's the menu option you'll go into to actually tune or flash your 2018 Mustang.

I wanna show you guys how this actually gets tuned, so we're gonna go back up to program

vehicle.

We wanna confirm that that's the correct VIN number for your vehicle.

Now it will say Internet is required, you wanna make sure you're connecting to the proper

Wi-Fi, whatever is close to you, you have a really good signal that'll support all your

vehicle files if you're using that from the cloud.

All right, so, over Wi-Fi, it downloads some of those newer files and it'll tell you that

your car is now up to date with the newest files available for your vehicle, you hit

okay, we'll start moving forward.

At this point it will ask you for the cloud sync.

Now you can press continue to sync available files with the cloud.

Since our tune is on the cloud, we're gonna hit continue.

You'll be given a street-use notice, the device is not legal for sale or use in California

on any pollution-controlled motor vehicles.

Press continue to start, you just wanna hit continue to agree to that.

Make sure your ignition key is in the on position, you don't wanna fully start your Mustang just

yet, just make sure it is turned on.

At this point, you'll be given all of the options for the tunes you have on the device.

Now, as you can see, we have a number of different tunes for our 2018 GT.

The one that we're actually using today is this 93 race tune.

At the bottom, we've got 93 octane in the tank, so we wanna see what the most we can

get out of this car is gonna be with this tuner.

Now, when you turn yours on for the first time, you'll have your 87 and your 93, you

won't have all of these options here.

Since we've done a little work to our 18, we've got a bunch of more options.

So what we're gonna do is go into the 93 race tune we've got for today.

And it'll take you to your 0 to 100% loading.

So, in the next section, you'll be given this prompt to let you know that, if you have a

pre-loaded tune on the device, it will be disabled with our custom tune, so we're just

gonna hit confirm, we don't worry about that today.

So, at this point, since this is a new device being paired with our '18 GT, it'll say the

device isn't paired and you wanna hit confirm to pair this device with your Mustang.

Now, again, your custom tune will pop, the one you selected in the beginning of this

option, then you're gonna continue and it will start processing.

Before it actually flashes your Mustang, it's gonna save your stock-tune file to the device

so if you ever wanted to revert back to stock, you could do so right on the device without

having to go back to Ford.

All right, at this point, it'll prompt you to turn your key off, so you'll hit that start/stop

button to turn it off.

You'll be prompted again to turn it back on.

At this point, the program is complete, you've got the 93 race tune installed on your '18

GT and you're good to go.

The gauges and data-logging menu is probably one of the better options in it this particular

device.

That will give you your turn key on, you wanna make sure your ignition has started, we hit

continue.

It'll move along so that you can actually monitor and track a bunch of different engine

vitals on the fly and data log with your tuner in case you wanna make adjustments to it.

So, we're working with the Ford gas, obviously it's newer than an OH so that's the option

we're gonna check, we're gonna hit continue.

It'll load up what we needed to load up, scan the data-log file and then we'll be able to

monitor a bunch of different engine vitals.

As you can see, there's two gauges on here now, the control-module voltage and the coolant

temp.

Now, if I wanted to select one of these, I can check the item and then switch it over

to say an intake air temp.

Hit approve, it'll swap out, so intake air temp and coolant temp.

These are just a couple of options you can actually record and data log.

Now, you can swap those out with a bunch of different options, you can hit item, swap

it down for your RPMs, hit approve, it switches out.

You can switch out a bunch of these different gauge layouts as well, you can monitor up

to six things at once with different gauge layouts, so that's a really good option to

have.

Going back, we're gonna stop data logging, it'll exit out, take us back to the main menu.

Vehicle functions, you can read DTC codes or Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Anytime your check engine light comes on, not sure what it is you can read that code,

it'll give you the code and the description of it so you can get that taken care of and

then clear the code and get rid of that light.

That's a good feature to have as well.

It'll give you your vehicle info, your VIN number, things of that nature.

Device info, the same way, it'll give you the device name, the device part number and

your serial number which is important when it comes time to actually get tuned updates.

Device settings, you can check for updates, you can connect to Wi-Fi which is a really

cool feature with the Rev-X from SCT.

When you connect to your Wi-Fi, you can then cloud-file sync.

So, essentially, when you get tuned revisions in the future with your free tunes for life-program

that you're in once you purchase this, they'll get tuner visions sent to the cloud from Bama

which eliminates the need of using USB's connected to your computer .You connect to Wi-Fi, you

can download those tune-update revisions from the cloud directly to your device over the

internet via Wi-Fi.

So, that's gonna take you through all those features.

Some of the cool things is just data logging and monitoring your engine vitals on the fly.

If you have a windshield mount, you can mount this in your point of view, monitor those

as you're driving.

All right, that's gonna wrap up my review install and dyno of the Bama Rev-X by SCT

tuner with two custom tunes for the 2018 GT Mustang with a manual transmission.

If you're looking to pick up horsepower and torque gains, especially under the curve at

the low end, this is a really good device to have especially if you're looking to monitor

some live-engine vitals on the fly within arm's reach of that driver's seat, have a

DTC code reader being able to read it and clear it as well as some data logging features,

Wi-Fi capabilities so on and so forth.

Ifou wanna pick this up for your own S550, you can do so right here at americanmuscle.com.

9 Ways the Ranch Helped Me to Become a Better Person - Duration: 13:49.

Hi I'm Mike I've talked in the past

about how being here on the ranch has

made me a better person and recently I

received an email from a young man who

was or maybe still is having some doubts

about his own life he wanted to know

what I learned here that changed the way

that I thought about things are moved

through my day and it got me thinking

and now I'd like to share with you my

thoughts and hopefully we can fill the

comments with what makes you a better

person - these are my top nine ways the

ranch has made me a better person on our

wyoming life

welcome to our whelming life as we

continue to explore the ranch life and

escape the ordinary thanks for coming

along with us as many of you know we

weren't raised here on the ranch both

Aaron and I were city kids and then we

became City people but after we got

married family obligations drew us to

the ranch and when we got here we didn't

know jack spit about it in fact before

we came here we were completely

different people I was a vice president

of a large radio group in charge of

programming about 17 different radio

stations I had people under me who

probably hated my guts I had to hire

people and I had to fire people I made

enemies they'd make a lot of friends and

I always looked out for number one that

was me

my job my happiness my hobby is my free

time everything that was important to me

was el numero uno I was for the lack of

a better analogy someone you might call

the rear end of a number of different

animals and I've been called much much

worse over the last few years though I

made a conscious effort to change that

and coming to the ranch was a huge part

in changing my way of thinking about

life now some of you guys may have had

this stuff figured out a long time ago

and for that I'm kind of jealous there

are probably thousands of little things

that can make you a better person but

here are a few things that I've learned

thanks to the ranch and the influence

that it's had over my life number one be

thankful for what you have when we came

here we fell into a life that many dream

of at the time I didn't know that

although my mom was sure to tell me that

I was living and doing my dad dad's

dream job

when Gilbert my father-in-law that

brought us here to the ranch passed away

he left all of us not only a great

responsibility but also the foundation

to succeed we have the equipment we have

the animals and the land for them to

live on and for that we are eternally

grateful the old saying is and this is

the first old saying right here today so

just bear with me is don't look a gift

horse in the mouth and for us

very true good things be better of

course would we like a new tractor

swather or ranch truck sure but we can

get by with what we have we can make it

work the legacy that we were given is

still right here and we're still working

with it number two if a neighbor calls

and asks for help drop what you're doing

and go help them when the phone rings

and the neighbor down the road needs a

hand nothing else is more important at

the moment he or she wouldn't be calling

if they didn't truly need help and

sometimes you're gonna need help in

return that's gonna be the same thing

when you call them you're gonna need

help right now a few weeks ago my

neighbor led me on an adventure that

ended with us trapping and escaped llama

on his property not an easy task and

when he called for help I actually

thought he was kidding but now I know

how to catch a llama a skill that I hope

I'll never have to use again plus he

owes me one

number three stop and smell the roses

okay it sounds pretty cliche but it

really is one of the most important

parts of my day now there there are no

roses out here but we also you know we

want to take the time to appreciate

where we are to take ten minutes out of

our day

it's those moments that are really gonna

matter when you come home from a long

day when you need to unwind do you

really want to be thinking about all the

work you have to do all that stuff on

the project list or would you rather be

smiling because you took ten minutes for

yourself take a break

find a place to soak it in and realize

just how lucky you are

number four let go of the anger inside

these Corral's I have had some of the

most frustrating days of my life and

around here there are many things that

frustrate you a broken tractor or a cow

that doesn't want to move and it's easy

to let those things get under your skin

and in all reality it's actually okay if

they do get through that get the job

done move it on and let go move on to

the next thing and don't let the anger

stay with you when we first got here I I

did I got really mad a lot I was very

frustrated because I didn't know how to

do things I got angry I yelled and I

stomped but like I said luckily we

weren't filming any of it because it

wasn't pretty

now I almost laugh it off because in the

long run around here it's just another

day number five admit your mistakes and

learn from them I screw up all the time

how the day goes by that something

doesn't happen the way I want it to

sometimes those mistakes cost times

sometimes they cost money but after a

mistake is done there's no going back

use your mistakes to learn something as

simple as remembering to put a jack up

on the baler or as complex as losing a

calf because you didn't give the correct

treatment fast enough everything in life

is an opportunity to learn adapt and

overcome

number six surround yourself with people

who have your back

you can try going at it alone some

succeed with that mentality but most

don't when it comes to the hosts that

are gonna stand behind you no matter

what happens they can come from anywhere

all you need is people who share your

same goal they can be your friends your

co-workers sometimes even complete

strangers when you need advice they're

the ones that are gonna give you honest

feedback that feedback even though

sometimes it's harsh to take will make

you stronger and better here on the

ranch we all work hard together to

accomplish whatever we can dream of hi

McKenzie can you can you do me a favor

can you tell me what it is that makes

you a better person well hold on clear I

only have one microphone here okay what

is it that makes you a better person

they getting smarter in school yeah you

want to talk grace you don't want to

Lincoln what makes you a better person

okay you want to go get shoes what did

you say you want to get down what do you

have to say I might get smarter in

school you get smarter in school and

that makes you a better person

I agree the smarter you are what get get

let Hitler speak what kittler speak yeah

there you go this is my team

number seven don't forget to thank those

that pave the way my dad passed away a

week after my 13th birthday

and what were twenty years later was the

very first time that I ever visited his

grave Aaron and I went out we replaced

his original handmade headstone with a

new one and ever since then I have had

that headstone with me right here in the

shop this stone for years was the only

marker of my dad's existence besides me

I guess until I came here to the ranch I

didn't have the courage to go to his

gravesite in Oregon and see what I had

been avoiding for 23 years and I got the

chance to thank him for the spark that

he gave me that allows me to live this

life

in the same way I visit Gilbert's grave

almost on a weekly basis he's buried

right here on what used to be part of

the ranch before this was donated as a

County Cemetery

I mean he's as close as he can get and I

come up here and I thank him for

allowing that spark that my dad put in

me to continue to grow into a passion

for ranching

number eight don't put yourself in a box

if you want to do something different

then do it don't be the norm I'm sitting

inside a chicken brittle when we came

here we had no idea how to be ranchers

we learned what we could but I can tell

you that we don't do it the same way

that every other ranch from the world

does it we love to try new things and

some seem silly and even if you are a

rancher or a firefighter or a computer

salesman you can still be more help we

became YouTube creators that found a

whole new life a new talent and a new

passion number 9

nothing worth doing is ever easy another

cliche but one that's true enough once

again don't be afraid of doing something

the hard way when and if you find an

easier way to do it you're gonna

appreciate it all the north hard work

will pay off maybe not with money but

with personal growth experience an

old-fashioned grit while we're at it get

a little dirty because sometimes that's

the only way that chillip ever know true

accomplishment

I'm gonna stop there so why only nine

ways why not ten well because I want you

to round out the list please comment and

tell us what makes you a better person

is it getting out and going for a walk

every night for our younger herd members

is it cleaning your room when mom or dad

tells you to what is it that makes you

somebody that you would want to hang out

with my hope is that this video gives

the sender of that email to me a glimpse

into what not only helps make a better

person but what makes us all better

people we all have room for improvement

but then again nobody's perfect and no

one should expect you to be if they do

they aren't worth wasting your time with

this video actually falls into that if

somebody asks for help category you go

and help them and I'm trying to do just

that thanks for taking your time to help

me also

the ranch was what I needed to make

myself a better person but for you it

could be anything a basketball court a

hobby or just a box of Lego's it doesn't

matter if you have it in you to change

how you think then that's all you need

friend of mine said time spent planning

is time that you aren't doing so go do

it and you won't regret it until I see

you again have a great week and thanks

for joining us in our Wyoming life

Is the NFL Exploiting its Cheerleaders? | AJ+ - Duration: 9:39.

The National Football League:

It's the most popular sports league in the U.S.,

and brings people together over food, family, fun,

love of country and, uhh ...

Now we're gonna go to a troubling new study about

the risk of brain injury and football

Ezekiel Elliott

suspended without pay over allegations of domestic violence.

Colin Kaepernick is taking his collusion case

against the NFL to trial.

And one of the many NFL issues that doesn't get as

much coverage is the sexual harassment and overall

exploitation of the games cheerleaders.

Washington Redskins cheerleaders on this

2013 trip tell NBC News they felt

sexually exploited.

Hey guys, it's Omar,

and this Sunday we're talking about how the NFL's

been mistreating its cheerleaders for decades,

and how some cheerleaders are starting to fight back.

But before we get into it, if you like topics like this

Well, dance and cheerleading are not only a sport, it's an art.

And I think that's why I fell in love with it.

It's expressing yourself through movement and it's

performing and making other people happy.

And that's why I love it so much.

That's Bailey Davis, former cheerleader

with the New Orleans Saints.

After three years of being on the team she was fired

by the Saints for posting a photo of

herself in a one-piece outfit

on her Instagram page.

The team said that her post violated their rules

that cheerleaders not appear nude, semi-nude or in lingerie.

It just didn't make sense to me that

they could promote me however they wanted to.

But when I did it, it was seen as inappropriate

and made me a bad representation of the team.

I didn't really understand that they could post

pictures of me in my uniform, which is a

two-piece and low-cut, but the bodysuit was inappropriate.

They also allege without proof that Davis attended a

party where a player from the organization was present

– something that would also violate team rules.

They told me that if a cheerleader's name even came

out of the football player's mouth, she would be fired.

And that's when I realized, wow, the players

don't have this rule at all.

Davis and her lawyer have since filed a federal complaint

against the NFL and the Saints

on the basis of gender discrimination, arguing that the

no-contact rule between cheerleaders and players

should go both ways if the rule were to remain.

The first thing to do, that is absolutely free of the NFL,

is to change the rules, have them equal.

Have us not feel like we're the ones having to

protect ourselves from the football players.

Don't put it completely on us,

and our job shouldn't ride on whether a

football player is trying to contact us or not.

But even though this might seem

like an open-and-shut case, it's not.

The NFL's been able to argue on numerous occasions – which we'll get to –

that cheerleaders are not its direct employees,

and that gender discrimination rules only apply to "NFL personnel,"

a title that Davis and her lawyer argue also applies to her.

OK, before I continue telling you about Davis,

let's contextualize cheerleading a bit and

figure out how we got to this point.

Organized cheerleading as a profession goes back to the 1890s

and was a male-dominated activity.

And female cheerleaders don't arrive on the scene

until the 1940s as men were being

drafted and sent off to serve in World War II.

Oh, and some famous male cheerleaders of the past?

Dwight D. Eisenhower, Mitt Romney, George W. bush...

… Dubya did a whole lot of cheering for war, didn't he?

Checks out.

The NFL introduced professional cheerleading in the 1950s

for the then Baltimore Colts,

and the cheerleaders wore noticeably more modest uniforms.

It wasn't until the 1970s that NFL

cheerleader uniforms changed to what we know today.

The Dallas Cowboys introduced new uniforms

that caught America's attention, especially after

the 1972 Super Bowl, where the cheer squad

performed dance routines as opposed to their usual acrobatics.

But since then, criticism that NFL cheerleaders are used

as props for ogling has been a

consistent grievance leveled against the league.

Nancy Armour is a sports columnist for USA Today

and has reported on this ongoing story.

I think the problem with professional cheerleading

is in a lot of ways it's not cheerleading.

It's basically treating women as objects.

If you look at cheerleading in college it's much more

of an athletic endeavor, a sport.

It's open to men and women and that's not the

case with professional cheerleaders and

unfortunately that leads to abuses of

the women by the people who are employing them.

Not only do they have to deal with fans

ogling them and scrutinizing their appearance,

they had to deal with

scrutiny from NFL teams themselves.

The majority of NFL teams have weight

restrictions for their cheerleaders,

where they have to stay within a certain

weight level and are forbidden from

gaining even a few pounds.

Of course, this not only has to do

with their appearance on the field, but also on the wildly

popular cheerleader calendars.

One example of this is the terribly-named

Washington Redskins who flew their

cheerleaders to Costa Rica for a

calendar shoot in 2013.

During the shoot, some cheerleaders reported

they were acquired to stand around topless, even

though there wouldn't be any nudity in the calendar,

while others stood around with only body paint to cover them.

But it gets even worse.

The cheerleaders had to deal with

spectators from the Redskins fan base

who had been invited to attend the photo shoot.

By having cheerleaders in their current form,

in these sexed-up objects on the sidelines,

that have really no other role

or no other purpose than to be ogled

by fans, the NFL is telling women,

"We really don't care about you.

We want your money,

but you as people, you as employees,

we don't really care about you."

Davis also experienced a lot of rules

and restrictions around her appearance

at the games and even at practice.

Our contract was very strict as far as

appearance goes we always had to have

our nails manicured and done either

nude or French tip. We always had to have full

face gameday makeup that was for appearances.

Obviously game day and practice,

we always had to have her hair done,

we always had to have a spray tan,

and all that we had to pay for ourselves.

But Davis also experienced numerous episodes

of full-on sexual harassment while

trying to sell cheerleader calendars to

fans at the game.

And in order for Bailey to cheer

on the field, she had to sell a minimum

number of these calendars in

massive crowds that often led to uncomfortable situations.

They would say rude sexual comments.

I've had my butt grabbed before and it is a very shameful

feeling and you feel like it's your fault.

And there was one instance where a fan

pulled a calendar out of my hand

and he immediately flipped to my month in the

swimsuit calendar and he made just a

simple sexual comment about my body and

that was kind of my breaking point.

Davis believes that to prevent sexual harassment,

cheerleaders need protection in these situations,

just as the players receive protection when they're in public.

Don't have us up on a pedestal as

celebrities and in these beautiful

uniforms and then throw us out into the

crowd with no protection, having fans be

able to speak to us however they want

and touch us if they want.

That's just completely ridiculous

And then there's wages.

While some players are making millions, if not hundreds of millions of dollars,

cheerleaders aren't even making minimum wage.

In 2014, the now Las Vegas bound Oakland Raiders

settled a lawsuit where they were accused of only paying

their cheerleaders 5 dollars an hour -

when minimum wage in California at the time

was $8 an hour.

And that same year, the

Buffalo Bills disbanded their

cheerleading squad after five former members filed a

lawsuit alleging they had gone unpaid for hours they

had worked.

And Nancy Armour believes this is

further evidence that the

multibillion-dollar NFL doesn't value these women.

If you are contending that these women

are valued employees, that they're an

important part of the message that you send,

they're an important part of your

team's community, then their pay should

reflect that. It should be more than, you

know, minimum wage or whatever it is that they get.

Compensate them fairly.

So, in the wake of the #MeToo movement with open

conversations about sexual misconduct

and creating safer environments for

women, why have the NFL and its clubs

been so slow to enact better pay and

create a safer environment for the cheerleaders?

The questions about cheerleaders and kind of the grousing

about them has been going on for years.

But I think women are finally saying, "No.

You know what? This is not

fair, this is not acceptable, and I'm not

going to take it anymore."

Despite the slow response the NFL has

agreed to hold meetings with Davis and

her lawyer to address unfair pay and

discuss creating safer environments for cheerleaders.

But many remain skeptical about how far the league is willing to

go to bring that change, especially when

they're so hesitant about making change in general.

Cheerleader rules are set by each team.

So, the league can only do so much.

But the league can send a very important message that this is appropriate,

this is not, and we really

think that you should conform to the more appropriate set of rules.

So, what can change?

Well, some think the reintroduction of men into NFL cheerleading squads

could change the pervasive climate of sexual harassment.

Both the Los Angeles Rams

and New Orleans Saints - Davis's former

team - have introduced men as part of

their upcoming cheerleading squads.

Nancy Armour thinks it's not necessarily a

matter of including men on cheerleading

squads and more about NFL ownership.

I'm not sure if the NFL will ever get rid of

cheerleading altogether. I think it's

engrained in the sport and I think there

are unfortunately too many people who

think that it's necessary to objectify

women as part of the entertainment.

I think within the next hopefully five

years cheerleaders will look different,

they will be treated differently,

and there will be a different attitude about what they do.

How Video Games Can Actually Level Up Your Business Game (EP 7.4) - Duration: 10:15.

- Okay everyone,

today we have Ben Colayco

who is actually the President over here at Drip Club.

He's got a really unique story and I want to dive

into, kind of his, origins around it,

but Ben, why don't you tell us a little about kind of

who you are and what you're up to here.

- Sure, good.

Thanks Eric.

Originally, I came from the video game business.

These guys when they called me, they were like,

"Oh Ben, we need somebody with more experience",

which was really kind of like a "dog whistle" for old.

I definitely am much older than these guys,

but I started the videoing business right when people

were starting to play multi-player over the internet.

This was ...

I'm talking dial-up days.

- Ummm

- And so, you know one of the opportunities that I found was

in Asia online games were booming.

This was before kind of the Gold Standard

World of Warcraft came out,

and I was able to find games that ran on dial-up,

and I entered all these emerging markets

which didn't have broadband.

So I went to the Philippians, to India, to Brazil,

and I started with a little game called Trag-na-rock,

which surprised pretty much everybody

because, you know, it was like deceivingly cute

but it was very, very deep.

- And this is an MMO?

- This is an MMO, and this was in like 2002.

And I think that was before Facebook and social networks

really ruled the world.

In fact, for us MMORPGs was our social network,

and I think that's why it was so powerful,

and that's what helped us grow.

I did that for about 15 years,

publishing other games towards the end

and we were fortunate to become part of this portfolio,

which, you know, has some of the most played

online video games in the world.

- This is like the World of Warcraft.

This is Ever Quest.

They're all where you combine with

hundreds or thousands of people to get together

to kill big dragons and get a lot of loot, right?

So, I mean how did you even

get into this in the first place?

How do you ...

I think your model is unique

where you didn't create the game,

you went to find the games, right?

- Correct.

- What were you doing exactly there

to kind of put everything together?

- Yeah, so it's interesting,

so in contrast to what we do now;

so I was on the other side

where we were the publishers, right?

So we would be the ones that selected the content.

And, you know, back then the world was much,

I guess, "larger", where, you know,

not many people could just hop on a plane

or wanted to hop on a plane to find these

very exotic places to find games.

And so, that's what we did, right.

So, we went to Korea.

Nobody ever heard of Rag-na-rock.

Nobody heard of these other Chinese games,

or these Eastern European games,

and we said, "Hey, these are good enough."

We decided to localize them,

not just in local language, but to fit local culture

in the different countries that we operated in.

And that was the opportunity that we seized

really, really way in advance.

- So, how did you even come up with

this idea in the first place?

This is not something they teach you

in NYU or college or ...

- Right, right, right.

It was interesting, I mean I think it's one of those things

where right after 911, actually in New York, I was there.

You know, kind of a lot of people kind of reflected on

"What am I going to do with myself?"

Or, "What am I supposed to do in this life?"

So I called up my father, and I said,

"Hey, you know, maybe can you help me

"try to go to grad school so I can get my MBA?"

And my father said,

"I'm not going to pay for your tuition,

"it's a waste of money."

He's like,

"Come back to the Philippians and help me

"just build businesses and that's better than any MBA."

So I went down there and his first question was,

"I heard you can make money off of video games.

"How do you do it?"

And at that time everyone was just playing Counter Strike.

Right?

Totally pirated.

Nobody makes money off of CDs or consoles.

And I said, "Look, the only way you can do it

is if you make people connect to the server, and pay."

So, my first MMORPG was actually Dark Age of Camelot.

- Oh, what?

- Right, yeah I know, totally man,

that was my first MMORPG experience, and I was like,

"Yeah, unless you can get a game like that ... "

And he was like, "Go find in Korea and find one."

And I like, "Okay."

So I went to Korea, I didn't know anybody,

didn't really speak Korean,

but gamer to gamer, you meet people and then I'm like,

"Man, this thing is great."

And so, we decided to take a chance

and that's kind of how it started.

- Got it.

So you ...

How did your negotiations ...

Well, I mean for those of you that don't know,

Tencent is actually one of the biggest companies

in China right now.

They are like that "network".

- But just to add I think from a ...

You know, I've seen the whole life cycle

from total start-up, like zero,

to kind of like, you know, medium to large size business.

And as an entrepreneur, you also have to kind of

change your mindset from kind of small business,

start-up, bootstrap,

and then all the way up to kind of corporate, governance.

You know what I mean?

Like, you know managing shareholders and investors.

So you know, I was lucky enough to kind of experience that,

that whole thing.

- So you went from zero; the very beginning.

- Yeah.

- And I mean, how big did the company get to?

- By the time we sold, our revenues were about like

46 million a year.

- Wow.

- Worldwide.

- And you had a couple of hundred employees, right?

- Yes, we had 400 actually, at our peak, so ...

- Got it.

So, what are some key lessons learned,

I mean, your story is unique

where you had to go find games, A,

and then you're also traveling around the world,

where you didn't even know how to speak the language.

- Right.

Well, so I think that kind of ties into why I'm here

with these guys, right.

When I was speaking to Mike, I feel like they're

taking the same trajectory that the video game business

kind of took where there's always that golden age boom time

where no matter what you do everything works,

and everything's just coming in,

and then it finally hits that inflection point

where now the real business discipline kind of comes in.

- Maybe 10, 20 million?

- Well, even just from the stage of an industry, right.

So, I think in the golden age of MMORPGs

up until World of Warcraft,

it was anyone that released that MMORPGs was like gold.

It was just making money.

And I think it's the same thing here

with the vaping business,

where the Eu-la-ka business where when it first started

there was a big boom up until last year,

and then now it's ...

You're going to start separating the very serious,

long-term thinking companies

from the kind of like the short-term thinking guys

who possibly got lucky.

Nothing against that.

I'd rather be lucky than good any day.

But you can't just rely on that to keep going,

and so for us, you know, when we hit that inflection point

like you said, "What changes?"

It's really management, discipline,

clarity and purpose, right.

And that's one of the things

that I'm trying to bring here as well,

which is kind of going back to that founder's mentality of

you have to be out there yourself.

Like, you know, hitting the pavement.

Talking to your end customer face-to-face,

no matter how big you get.

And it's easy to kind of get lost

and get stuck in this bubble and kind of just

enjoy the success that kind of comes along.

- Got it, cool.

So those people that are trying to get better

at the founder's mentality, and you actually talked

about the book, The Founder's Mentality,

how else can people get better?

- It's funny, in my own experience, right,

everybody says, well you have to work hard, right.

You have to do what it takes.

You have to sacrifice.

I feel like that's just a requirement.

So, the other stuff that comes in really

is being able to have the clarity in your business

to kind of understand which way you have to go.

And we faced those same challenges today.

In fact, we stayed up all last night

just kind of debating

like okay, which way are we going to go.

We're like moving forward, going into next year.

But, I think that's really the crux of it, right.

It's easy to get lost in the day to day of the stuff.

I mean I will say this, I think we have a great partnership

in that these guys are the ones that kind of have the vision

to kind of be like,

"Oh it would be great if we did this."

"Yeah, man, we'll do this."

So it's kind of my job to be like,

"All right, how do we make it actually happen?"

Right, because I've seen it, you know.

I didn't wake up one day and said,

"We're going to have 400 employees

"and be in five different countries."

You actually, you just have to go through it

and kind of do the same thing.

So for here, I'm trying not to make the same mistakes

as much as possible that I've had before.

But yeah, I think it's great to ...

You know, you have the vision; go chase it.

But you also have to be cognizant

about what it actually takes to get there and

how deliberate are you going to be to take it all the way?

- Makes sense.

- Yeah.

- Have you heard of the book, Rocket Fuel before?

- No, I have not.

- Okay, just a key take away for everyone.

Everything that Ben's talking about right here

is in this book called Rocket Fuel.

It's the concept of having a visionary and an integrator.

It's written by the guy Gino Wickman,

who also wrote the book, Traction.

Check it out.

It's basically everything he's taking about right here.

And I think for those of you that are trying to figure out

if you're an integrator or a visionary,

you can go there, take the test,

it will show you exactly where you fall in the spectrum.

- It's interesting Ric, because I actually had this

conversation with Quan from the U-L-A.

He was actually telling me

he just brought in an integrator into his business.

- So how go ...

- So yeah, it's amazing.

That's a great insight,

- Cool.

- Final question I have for you.

- Sure.

- I mean, you know, us, I'm sure for you too

I mean, I'm referring to Andrew Haw-kins and Jonathan,

having Asian parents, they don't like us playing games

all the time.

"Games don't help."

My theory is that "games help so much"

when it comes to building a business

or helping the world.

- Sure.

- What's your thoughts around how gaming has helped you?

- So I have kids now too, right.

So, I have an eight year old and a five year old.

My son is absolutely addicted to games and just screens.

Okay.

I know I can't help it,

but it's just like a generational thing,

and it's the same thing with me and my dad,

you know what I mean,

like being like "that's a waste of time."

I do see though, definitely my son, he's got a lot more

dexterity when it comes to timing and like,

you know what I mean.

He now figures out things.

It's like, "Oh, if I do this, I do this."

So then he applies that to real life too.

Like, so now, it's kind of a nice kind of supplement

to the stuff that he's learning anyway.

The one thing that, you know, more than just academics

and all this stuff with all this pressure with these

Tiger Moms and Dragon Dads or whatever, is that

I just want my son to be passionate about something,

like really care, and see something, like I said,

all the way through to the end, right.

And I think the games is a nice little supplement to that,

because he'll keep going, and I remember every time he stops

at a level that he can't get past,

he plays Red Ball,

and he's just like, "Oh, gosh", and he stops.

And I actually tell him, "Pick it up.

"Finish the level.

"Finish what you started."

And so, he's like, "Dad, I can't, it's too hard."

And I'm like, "Do it."

And I'm like, "Here, move it to the left ..."

So, and it's funny how I'm forcing him to play video games,

But to me it's more about, "finishing what you started",

right, and I think he's picking that discipline up

and that's good.

- Great, that's powerful.

Ben, thank you so much.

- Thank you Eric, thanks man.

- Hey, so I hope you enjoyed that video with my buddies.

Let us know again about what y9ou think about these,

and if you plan ...

Well, if you think we should be doing more of these videos.

So the next video

is with another really interesting business

so don't forget to go ahead and go to the next video

and check it out.

Tiger Shark Nearly CHOMPS Diver! - Duration: 15:32.

- Alright Coyote, so I think we need to talk

about what everybody wants to know...

How close were you to actually getting chomped

by that tiger shark?

♪Fire♪

♪A fire on the mountain♪

(fiddle music)

- What's going on Coyote Pack?

And welcome to another episode of Base Camp.

Now this one's gonna be a little bit different

because instead of reviewing and old episode

on the Brave World on this channel,

we're gonna review the new series

that just launched, Blue Wilderness.

- It's out, it's finally out.

- The fist two episodes, yeah.

- We've been developing this for a very, very long time

and I hope everybody is liking it so far.

It's just the beginning but we start out pretty, pretty big.

- Yeah, tiger shark big.

Nothing's bigger than a two part

diving with tiger sharks episode

which took months to get through post production.

This was a big undertaking.

- Yeah, it was a big story.

Well you know the series launch,

we wanted to give a nice backstory,

tell everybody what the series is about

and uh, do it justice.

- We want it to start with big splash.

Dive into the deep end.

- I see what you're doing, I see what you're doing there.

- Now usually we start an episode

with some Coyote Pack artwork,

but unfortunately today, we don't have

any Blue Wilderness oriented artwork from the pack.

Which means, you guys have a homework assignment.

Everybody needs to work on

either making some Blue Wilderness

logo art or drawing sharks, draw an octopus,

draw the Loch Ness Monster, whatever it might be,

send it in to the P.O. Box so we can start sharing

Blue Wilderness artwork here at the Base Camp set.

- Yeah, and you know, knowing that we may not

have artwork for this particular Base Camp,

I didn't make any artwork, but I do have an artifact.

Mario, I actually, it's right over there by you. Grab it.

- Oh, here it is.

Oooh what's this buddy?

- [Mark] You remember that?

- Oh is it heavy

- It's heavy, it might be expensive

- It's a little bit heavy

- Yeah, put it back

- I do remember this, from the manatee segment?

- [Mark] That is correct.

So this is our very first

underwater camera housing, sort of the beginning

stages of Blue Wilderness, if you will.

Um, which you know was now almost three years ago

that we filmed that, but uh, it's sort of a relic now,

not something that we're gonna use again

but I thought we could put it up on the wall and...

- Yeah, it's kinda fun to see this

because the manatee segment, besides being really cool

swimming with the manatees, it was our first like,

true underwater segment, right?

- [Mark] Yeah, it was and uh, you know,

starting with the manatees

and leading up to the tiger sharks

there was a lot of baby steps along the way

like not only learning how to film underwater

and learning about the different housings

but also getting dive certified

which, Mario, you only got dive certified

a week prior to swimming with sharks, awesome

- [Mario] Thank you, thank you.

Yep, I basically went the accelerated route

I got dive certified and then

- Speed certification

- A few days later I was on a boat

heading to swim with tiger sharks

- And the other different aspect is that Coyote went

from being in front of the camera

to behind the camera, you guys didn't see me

behind the camera a lot but I was

getting some of those shots

and Mark took over as the show host,

so tell us, what was it like getting in front

of the camera for the first time

in full perspective, like, we know you've

been on camera before but, this is from the host perspective

- Well, I have to first and foremost man,

not an easy job by any means at all

like, I mean, so much respect for all the videos

that we made together, you stepping in front of the camera

for the team, uh, it's not easy to deliver lines

especially when there's like a crowd behind the camera

and the boat's rocking,

and there's so many distractions going on

so sort of keeping your focus

becomes a challenge in itself.

But beyond that, it was really humbling.

Now having this, you know,

the full perspective of all the roles,

hopefully will not only make me better

as a new host, but also a better director

for the main series which, speaking of directors,

Mario made his directing debut on these videos,

Mario, what was it like?

- [Mario] Well, in line with what you said,

I now have a better perspective

as to the difficulty of being a director.

And there's a lot of responsibility that a director feels

um, you gotta make sure you got all the shots

all the cutaway shots, so as you're filming,

I was also thinking of, alright this is the next thing to do

uh, Mark should say this instead and...

You know, it's difficult but I certainly

appreciated the challenge.

- But you had fun

- [Mario] I did!

- I know you had fun, every time you said cut

it was with a smile on your face.

- Cut, do it again, do it again.

- Now just for audience clarification,

because a lot of people have written

in the comment section on social media,

is Mark quitting Brave Wilderness?

No, Mark's not quitting Brave Wilderness,

Blue Wilderness is a show that's gonna be

housed on the Brave Wilderness channel.

However, we're also creating the Blue Wilderness channel

because we're looking to diversify the content on YouTube.

Not only through shows, like Blue Wilderness,

and Beyond Dinosaurs, but also by building new channels.

So hopefully, it's just gonna attract more people

to the world of animals.

- Absolutely, this is about being versatile,

all of us have roles

that we could actually intertwine, and switch,

and just be really good at what we're doing.

- And you're gonna be out there again with us

under the ocean surface, right?

- We'll see, as long as you don't get seasick.

- Seasick, that was the big reason,

obviously, I can't host everything

and with the idea of diversifying the channel,

we want to start plugging different people

into different roles to branch out.

Now yes, I get seasick quite a bit

but actually didn't get seasick on this voyage

strangely enough, like we really had

this whole scene planned where it was like

oh, Coyote's gonna be puking over the side,

it's gonna be funny, but...

- You had the Scops patch

- Yeah if you guys looked, like we were wearing Band-Aids,

those actually keep you from getting seasick.

- One thing I do have to say,

I take a moment to thank Jonathan Bird

and his amazing team with Blue World.

We could not have done this production without them

certainly was the primary factor in keeping us safe

and aware for our very first shark encounter.

So, definitely check out Jonathan's channel, right here

he's got BlueWorldTV, lots of amazing underwater videos

and I don't think this is gonna be the last time

we're gonna work with Jonathan and those amazing guys

so stay tuned.

- Yeah, they are a goofy bunch of guys

that loves diving underwater and just

so much fun and I know one thing

that a lot of people noticed and commented on was like,

Whoa, you guys are doing

your first shark episode with no cages?

I mean that was the thing that I think

was really crazy for us and probably

anybody out there watching is that

we're getting into the water with all these sharks

and most of the time you see

people in cages, but this is one of those

unique spots in the world that you can go

and get in the water with sharks without cages, so...

- Yeah, it's all very calculated,

we certainly didn't just go off and dive with any sharks,

this area is a known dive spot,

this occurs year-round and we were with professionals.

- Alright Coyote, so I think we need to talk about

what everybody wants to know,

how close were you to actually

getting chomped by that tiger shark?

- Pretty close, closer thank I think anybody

would ever want to get

with a tiger shark, a 14 foot predator

I know a lot of you have been asking

Coyote, when are you gonna get bitten by a shark?

Never, certainly not intentionally

but this, this was close.

- That was close.

- It was very close, and I distinctly remember underwater

after it happened, everybody was looking at each other like

did you see that?

And everyone, I think we got like four different shots

everyone's like, oh yeah we saw.

- Yeah, good thing all the cameras were rolling

to get the shot.

- Yeah so we have the footage here today

why don't we take a look at all four of those clips

and then we can examine

just how close things actually got for Coyote.

- Sure, perfect, let's watch it all through once first.

- Here we go.

Alright so, big tiger shark's coming around

you're filming, you're filming, ooh oh!

So that was kinda tough,

'cause you were blocking the camera there

so you really couldn't see how close you got.

- I like how I went right back to like

oh, and I'm just filming now.

- That was commitment.

- I think that was my shot, I think this is Jonathan's shot

yeah, this is the close one.

Woom, that one you can actually see how close you got.

- And you see how I really had to pull my arm back

and good thing he drifted off to the side

and I just continue to get the shot.

- That's your shot

- This is, this is your shot

actually kinda blocked but bump

ah man, you definitely see under the shark's nose.

- Yeah, I had to kinda lose my hold

on the camera at one point.

- Look at you, you're like, like...

- I tell you what, my heart was racing at that point

- No like, we know, Coyote, we know.

Alright.

You know, looking at it in slow-motion

without the dramatic music from the episode

you know, you may not know how close that was

but I think down there in the moment, we all knew.

- Well here's, here's what happened

what we were instructed, is that

when sharks come straight at you,

you hold your ground, right

the sharks will almost every single time

drift off to the left or right

we experience this with all shark species

like we would stay there and the shark would

come at you, come at you, come at you

almost like a game of chicken

and then it would go whoop off to the side

- I think this is an important point to make too

because when we first got down to the bottom,

the sharks are very cautious, they're very apprehensive

they're not like coming in right away

and making a beeline for you

like, they're actually gonna scope you out first

before they even think about getting close to the cameras

so, actually when you get down there,

you're hoping the sharks get closer to you,

you try to remain calm and still so hopefully

you can get that epic shot

but, inevitably they do get confident

and they get closer, and closer, and closer, and closer

and then the contact comes

- Well, and certainly at a point where

they're in an experience where they're feeding

and they're like oh, maybe this person has something for me

they're gonna come over and check it out

- [Mario] Certainly, yeah, and that's a great situation,

or a great example, maybe not so great for you

but uh, that shark coming up approaching very slowly

it wasn't like just going fast and mouth open

it was approaching slowly and when it bumped into you

you did something where you

accidentally touched kinda the bottom of his snout.

- Yeah, I don't think it, I think it was like this

'cause you got caught off guard

- Well, he bounced off the front of the camera

and the shark was so close at that point

I couldn't really see what was happening

it was just like, whoa the shark didn't go to the side

- You can see right here

- You can see there, the way that I had put my hand up

'cause I couldn't see through my mask

and you could see all the bubbles in front of me

once that shark collided with the camera

I didn't know where to put my hand,

I couldn't see where I was putting my hand

so I hit the underneath part of his nose

and he came up, you could see his eye roll back

and the white come over like,

- The teeth come out

- He was ready to bite

- Essentially, you just triggered a feeding response

because the professional feeders

when they actually have the sharks approach

they put the fish underneath their snouts

'cause as we know, sharks have the Ampullae of Lorenzini

all these receptors around their snout,

as soon as you touch one of those

they're gonna open their mouth reflexively, right?

- I should've put the camera into his mouth

- You should have

- Just given him something to eat

- I mean, I'm just glad you didn't get bit

I mean, what were you thinking in that moment

explain, 'cause you know, when you're down there

like you know, after this is

all done and we're looking at the footage now,

it's easy to be like, oh yeah man it was no big deal

swimming with sharks, but like when you're down there

you are on guard.

- Yeah and when you're looking down the little viewfinder

of a GoPro camera, underwater, through a dive mask,

everything's disorienting so, what I saw was the shark

getting that close, in the moment there I was like,

oh it's hitting the camera, I started to move

and then those bubbles came up

just like in Jaws or something like

(low pitched aggressive cry)

and I could see down the mouth of that shark

and the first thing I just thought was,

move to the side, and you can see

I kinda pull my hands back immediately

knowing that like, oh man, if the shark

feels something in its mouth, that's when it's gonna grab

and shake its head.

- Yeah you know that, that's a good point

underwater during the experience,

it seems so much more intense and essentially faster

I was behind you when that happened

I got that initial shot, that perspective

and it was such a quick movement that you did

spinning, turning, shark's gone, back to you

and we're just like, that just happened

- Well I mean I was immediately thinking

oh man that might be the shot of the tip right there

I better keep the camera going and in frame

and with everybody that was down there with us

I think I was the only one that actually got chomp-

well like, we consider it a chomped at,

but it was a nonaggressive move on the shark's part

which was clear once it went past

and it's like, oh there was nothing here for me to eat

okay I'm gonna circle around again,

- And, and to be fair, I don't know

if we told you this beforehand

but Mario and I, we did a lot of research

before we shot this video, clearly

uh but, we were told by many people like,

hey you may want to reconsider this

to be your first shark dive

because the sharks do make contact

inevitably, they do get confident enough to come in

and test you out

and it's not an aggressive like, I wanna kill you

test you out, it's a like, what, what are you man?

- Yeah, hey, do you have any fish for me or something

yeah uh, you know, right after that shark

just kinda circled around everyone

and went back to feeding

- Yeah like nothing happened and it is surprising

just how easy it is to move such a large animal

away from you underwater, which,

here, I'll show you

I brought one of my clips.

This is what ideally you want to happen

this is uh, yeah, here you can see

the shark is approaching me

and you wanna keep your palm down

and push the shark away from you

see there you go so, and then just push it away.

- Yeah so you made your move a lot quicker

I let the shark run into me

which, if I had earlier on been like,

I mean, my low angle too, I think

I was at a disadvantage too, right from the start

being as low as I was, and not really having

anywhere to go, other than hoping, alright

the shark's gonna go to the side.

- Yeah but, but yeah, that's exactly, Mark,

Mark put his hand on top of the shark, kind of push down

he didn't trigger that response which is reflexive, right

of opening the mouth, yeah.

- But I have to say, I think the big takeaway

from all of this is that those sharks are super intelligent

and amazing to be around underwater like,

I honestly can't wait to go back and do it again.

- It was uh, it was fairly surreal to be in the water

and then having these massive predators

just kinda pass right by you

and at some points you will look at them

directly in their eyes, and they're looking back at you

- And I, I think you lose sort of like,

it's not that you ever lose respect

for what those animals are

but you do start to get comfortable in that environment.

At first, you're like, holy cow, there are sharks everywhere

and then it'll just be like, oh you're getting one shot

and before you know it, you know three or four sharks

are just coming past the side of you like,

whoa, it's a good thing that nobody got curious

and decided to bite onto my leg at that point.

- You know, we will say as well, at all times,

we were instructed to always

have your head on a swivel, right

so you're constantly, you're getting the shot

but you're also looking over your shoulder, right.

If you see one of your buddies, a shark coming from behind

they're not aware, give them the signal, right.

So we're always kind of aware and always looking around.

- Which, what's the shark signal?

Shark!

And how about, what if it's a tiger shark?

Big shark!

- Run, swim, whatever it is but I mean

this was cool, I think the audience

gets a really great perspective

of what it takes to make these underwater videos

by us analyzing the scenario and pointing out

instances there were almost really pretty catastrophic,

just, tell you what, you get bit by a tiger shark

that far out in the ocean like,

- [Mario] It's game over.

- [Coyote] It would've been really bad.

- [Mark] Thankfully you didn't get bit.

- Close call, very close call.

- Yeah, about as close as you ever want to get

but, if you haven't seen it yet,

make sure to go back and check out the tiger shark videos
