Strange Things About Kristin Cavallari's Marriage - Duration: 4:47.
Laguna Beach reality star Kristin Cavallari is no stranger to living her life like an
open book, so it's no surprise that she's often spoken out about her relationship with
husband and former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler since their wedding in 2013.
While all relationships have their flaws, there's just nowhere to hide your dirty laundry
when you're in the spotlight.
And as one would expect, the couple's marriage hasn't been all California sunsets.
Here are some strange facts you might not know about Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler.
Rocky start
First impressions count, and unfortunately, Cavallari's initial opinion of Cutler was
less than ideal.
"I had Googled pictures of him or whatever, and I was like, 'Eh, you know, whatever.'"
Cutler was reportedly interested in her from the start and even had his publicist reach
out to Cavallari while she was still working on The Hills, but she turned him down.
According to an interview with A Drink With, she wasn't digging the idea of having a boyfriend
in Chicago.
Luckily for the both of them, Cavallari changed her mind about the football player when she
met him in real life.
"He walked in, and I was like, 'Whoa, he's so much cuter in person.'"
Called it off
While the two may be married with three children now, Cavallari had second thoughts back in
July 2011, and broke up with Cutler.
"I broke up with him because some things needed to change and the only way he would see how
serious I was was if I broke up with him."
They reportedly returned their wedding gifts to all their family members, friends, and
well-wishers.
While Cavallari also implies that the pair sought therapy following the temporary breakup,
it's got to be a tough memory that comes up from time to time.
Thanks to therapy
It's not everyday that you see a celeb couple who's so willing to admit it needs help from
a third party, and these two may not have lasted without it.
In a 2015 interview with American Baby, Cavallari opened up about how therapy has changed her
life and her relationship, saying,
"I'm not ashamed to say that Jay and I consistently go to therapy, because it's been extremely
beneficial for our relationship."
In her book, Balancing in Heels, Cavallari reveals just how instrumental her therapist
was in improving her relationship with her husband, saying,
"I credit [our therapist] for saving our relationship.
She opened up our eyes to the other person's perspective and gave us great tools for communication."
It's great that Cavallari and Cutler have a healthy way of working on their marriage,
but it's hard not to wonder what these two talk about during their sessions.
An important text
Many people dream about getting engaged by having the love of their life get down on
one knee and profess their undying love and devotion.
More often than not, particularly for celebrities, there's at least a ring.
But that's not quite how Cutler's proposal played out.
Cavallari told E! News host Giuliana Rancic that Cutler asked her to marry him through
a text message.
She explained,
"It was so silly.
I was in the airport, leaving Chicago.
[...] We were texting and somehow it came up, like, 'Oh, shall we get married?'
We're like, 'Yeah, OK.'
And then he sent my ring in the mail."
How sweet?
Stand by your man
If someone insults your significant other, you come to their defense, right?
Well, Cavallari has an odd way of standing by her guy.
In January 2017, she shared a photo to Instagram of her and Cutler vacationing in Mexico, and
unfortunately, followers were quick to mock Cutler's appearance.
According to CNN, some of Cavallari's followers wrote comments like,
"Jay been eatin' them pancakes!"
How did Cavallari shut down the haters?
She posted another photo of her husband, with part of the caption saying,
"Since Jay looked like a 300 pound lesbian in my last post, I felt I should do him justice
by posting him looking hot..."
While Cavallari may not have meant any disrespect to Cutler, couldn't she have simply defended
her man instead of posting another picture of him to prove he still looks good?
Spilling private details
Work and travel schedules don't always allow for those much-needed intimate moments between
Cavallari and Cutler.
Apparently, that's when they turn to sending each other steamy texts, and Cavallari doesn't
exactly shy away talking about the details.
"Half the time, I'm doing other stuff, you know?
I'm doing my nails, I'm folding laundry, and then I'll kind of do a little text.
Whatever you gotta do to keep the man happy."
It's not always easy to maintain a spark in a relationship, so kudos to Cavallari and
Cutler for doing what they can to keep their love lives kicking.

Hi lovelies
In my last Q&A I revealed that the question we got ask most during our pregnancy is
whether it's a boy or girl
We know now
and we will reveal it today
But in order to keep the excitement
I wanna talk about 9 different old wives' tales
because I was told many times
"Your tummy is so small it will probably be a boy"
"Or this or that... It will be a girl"
So today I wanna check
whether those old wives' tales were right or wrong
So let's start
The first old wives' tale sais
that girls already steal Moms their beauty while they're in their tummy
So that means if your skin tends to break out a lot
during pregnancy
it's supposed to be proof for
that you're having a girl
Or if your skin tends to be clear you're supposed to get a boy
It's difficult to tell in my case
because I had horrible skin during my first trimester
my skin looked like "Streusel" cake :D
Now my skin has gotten much better
Many people tell me "Wow.. you look amazing!" or
"You're shining!"
So I would say it's rather a boy
The second old wives' tale sais:
"Little or no sickness during pregnancy means you're getting a boy."
In my case I was feeling really really sick
not only little
but during my first trimester (especially week 6 - 12)
I was feeling sooo sick
I already mentioned in one of my previous videos
that we were in Hawaii during that time
where I sometimes had to throw up 4 times a day
So this speaks more for a girl
Another old wives' tale states
"If the grandma has grey hair it will be a boy."
My Mom so our little one's grandma
has zero grey hair
She has super beautiful long blonde hair
So this means we're having a girl
The fourth old wives' tale sais:
"Round tummy means you're having a girl"
Unfortunately my baby belly is still tiny
but I would still say it's rather round
So this also speaks for a girl
The fifth old wives' tale states:
"Sweet cravings mean you're having a girl"
I already talked about this in my previous Q&A
So far I have zero cravings
So this means we're having a boy
Another old wives' tale sais:
"If you're having cold feet during pregnancy you're getting a boy"
I usually always have cold feet
although it's of course summer now
But at the moment I don't have cold feet
Maybe because it's summer
or because we're having a girl
An African old wives' tale states:
"If you're grumpy against women you're getting a girl."
"If you're grumpy against men you're getting a boy."
I believe
that at the moment I'm not grumpy against anyone
I'm also not a grumpy person
I also don't think I have those typical pregnany hormones
that I'm bitchy at others
But I recognized
that I'm more sceptical against women
so this means
we're having a girl
"If you like more sweet things during pregnancy you're getting a girl."
"If you prefer sour or savoury things
you're getting a boy"
Like mentioned earlier I have very little pregnancy cravings
But when I want something
it's fruit
so something sweet
which would also mean we're having a girl
The last old wives' tale sais:
"If you like spicy food it's a girl."
"If you like mild food it's a boy."
I really don't like spicy food
A few days ago we cooked
In my opininion it was much too spicy
I couldn't eat it
So this means we're having a boy
According to the old wives' tales
we're definitely having a girl
So you will find out now
whether they were right or wrong in our case
As you saw we are having a BOY
We are super super excited about that
We also hoped for a boy as first born child
because we think it's nice that it's a big brother
We would love to have three kids
so of course we also wish for a girl
but we hoped for a boy first
Of course we would have been excited about either one
as important is that our Baby is healthy
But it's a big joker that we're having a boy first
Somehow we always knew it would be a boy
We always talked about our baby as "he"
It was really difficult not mentioning that in my YouTube videos :D
We are over the moon excited now
Yesterday I had my 19 week pregnancy ultrasound
He is doing really really good
He is even bigger than supposed to be
even though my belly is still tiny
But that doesn't matter
I don't worry about it anymore
Most important that he is fine
It's funny though because the old wives' tales
were completely wrong in our case
But we are super super happy now

Hi friends
I read a lot of advice for creative people and artists and writers on the internet because
there's nothing more helpful to doing a thing than to obsessively research the decisions
you already made.
And a lot of it, especially for people who want to make videos is what I call the "iphone
and a dream" advice.
Which is like Just start!
Just do it!
We all have our phones in our pockets!
Just start making things and finding your voice and putting it online and just GO.
Which is not bad advice necessarily I just think it's like, incomplete.
Because one, it assumes that like, all aspiring creators have never actually made a thing
before.
But it also assumes that putting it online is always the best way to go and I don't
think that's always the case.
Here's why.
Ever since I figured out how to read I loved reading and I loved writing.
I used to make these comics in second grade about the imagined adventures of my favorite
pop stars, I kept folders where I would write plot synopses and reviews of Lizzie McGuire
episodes, I had notebooks upon notebooks of emo song lyrics I wrote in high school.
But I also liked to write little stories about characters I related to—yknow, gloomy art
kids who were gonna make it out of this town.
Anyway, my junior year I wrote a story about the inner lives of a suburban family.
There's no plot, there's no dialogue, it just jumps from room to room, person to
person, visiting their thoughts.
The story wasn't great, I will ll be the first to admit that.
But I know my way around words so I made it sound rill pretty.
And when I submitted it to my school's writing contest, I won a prize.
And part of that prize was that my story was supposed to get published in the student literary
magazine.
But oh, dear reader, the editor of that magazine organized like a full on campaign to try to
not have to publish my story.
He went around trashing it to everyone, to all my friends, and tried to get the other
kids who worked on the magazine to vote against publishing it, they eventually had to run
my story anyway, even though he insisted "it's not even a story, it's a vignette"
And you know what I did?
I internalized it.
I didn't write anything that wasn't for school for three years.
I could be three years worth of work better at writing than i am now.
But a boy was mean to me.
And i listened to him.
So everybody has an iphone and a dream but when you start out maybe that dream is really
fragile.
And you're still finding your footing.
Yeah you need feedback to improve, but when you're just starting out that feedback is
internal.
You know it isn't there yet.
You don't need a stranger on the internet to tell you "Hey i think this this sucks.
Also you have really bad acne.
Also you should die.
I'd like you to be dead."
The whole just post stuff, start showing your work imperative comes from the idea that we
all want this to be our jobs.
So you want to be a youtuber.
You want to be a writer.
You want to have a really hard time explaining to your parents what you do for a living.
Then yeah you probably have to start putting things up now because how are you going to
monetize something no one's ever seen?
But also you don't have to monetize it?
Like, I have a full time job.
This is not my job, she says, pointing to the card where you can support her on Patreon.
I too suffer from the 2018 era tendency to be like "ooh, a side project i really like.
How does this get me closer to affording all my dental work?"
But does it have to?
Do we have to do this?
Like it's nice to make a little extra money off of YouTube but wow I am I glad that I'm
not worried about paying rent because the kind of stuff i like to make isn't especially
popular, so I would have to start making stuff I didn't like to please the gods of the
algorithm and I probably wouldn't like it and then it would just be… a job.
But right now, this is the thing that I love most in the world.
It's a dream and a bunch of fancy camera equipment that I've accumulated over the
years.
Which by the way, I paid for by shooting wedding videos which started out really fun and then
turned into really long, stressful days and never having a day off ever, which, are you
sensing a pattern here?
I get it.
We all broke.
We all crave attention and the dopamine rush of a notification symbol.
Or if you want to get all authentic and pure about it, we want to have the means to make
our art and feed ourselves.
So maybe there will come a point where you do want to show your work to other people,
and maybe even make it your job.
And when that time comes, there's enough other advice out there.
You'll know what to do.
But sometimes the best part of a dream is the part when it's a little illicit secret
that you're just chipping away at in little 20 minute chunk of stolen time by 20 minute
stolen chunk.
You're just kinda cheating on capitalism with your art and no shitty comment or deadline
or weird freelancer tax filing situation has come to ruin it yet.
It's yours and no one else's.
And you have no idea what you're capable of.
