This is fast!

Might this be the

next revolution in urban travel?

Welcome to Capital Bikeshare.

Even better than the excellent bike-sharing programs

that cities allowed recently?

These bike share bikes are great, but

you've got to pick them up in the dock here

and return them to the dock,

and just putting these docks in

costs hundreds of thousands of dollars.

As so often happens, entrepreneurs invented something

even better than bikes that must be locked

into a dock.

Dockless bicycles!

Check out the bike,

take it anywhere,

and just

leave the thing.

But just as I got used to dockless bicycles,

companies like Bird and Lime invented

still another option:

electric scooters that people can share.

They've scooted onto streets across the country.

It's like a watered-down version of a motorcycle.

A new two-wheeled battery powered way to get around.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

To unlock a scooter,

you just use an app on your phone.

For 2 bucks I can jump on one of these things,

go where I need to go,

and then just

leave it

anywhere!

It stays here until someone else rents it.

Won't it be stolen?

No, because if someone tries to steal,

the brakes lock up,

and this happens.

"Please unlock me to ride me

or I'll call the police."

If the thief took one anyway,

a GPS device inside the scooter would lead police

right to the thief.

The leave-the-scooter-anywhere system works.

It's a new twist on old technology,

that entrepreneurs found to give us something

that works even better

to solve needs in dense urban areas.

That's a wonderful thing…

if they don't stop it!

By "they", I mean, politicians.

Many cities banned the scooters.

A Bay Area city at war.

San Francisco said:

"they endanger public health and safety".

Broken bones, bruises,

and near misses by these scooters.

At 17 miles an hour – it hurts!

Who am I going to sue when I get knocked down?

It's been banned in San Francisco.

Which is particularly ironic,

because San Francisco always seems to be clamoring

for more transportation options.

They're complaining about the traffic

and they're asking particularly

for green transportation options.

In San Francisco and many other cities,

scooter companies tried to escape

destructive regulation

by doing what Uber and Airbnb did.

Just put these out there,

and hope that by the time the politicians notice,

the scooters

would be too popular to ban.

They didn't get permission first.

And that's the issue.

Unfortunately, cities haven't learned

from their past experiences

with companies like Uber and Airbnb,

and they want these innovators

to come ask for permission and go through

the regulatory processes.

Which can take years.

Which can take years,

and can also prevent consumers

from accessing a transportation option

that could be accessible now.

San Francisco's now granted permits to

two small companies,

but not Lime and Bird,

the companies that started the business.

The pedestrians say they're a hazard.

They get up next to me and zoom right on by.

Still, there are safety issues.

This man reportedly died after falling off a scooter,

and some people ride recklessly.

Excuse me, excuse me, ahh f**k!

S**t.

Are you OK?

They're gonna run us old people over!

We actually haven't seen a large number of accidents

or injuries with these scooters

Some people have been hurt.

And some people get hurt,

but we don't see ourselves banning bicycles

because somebody might get hurt on a bicycle.

There will be social norms that evolve,

just like we've seen with bike lanes.

Then there's the crazy opposition.

Protestors say they think the deluge of electric scooters

in San Francisco is a symptom of

gentrification.

This group's upset because

scooters are used by rich people, tech workers.

The scooters have provoked intense anger here.

Some people throw scooters into the ocean,

others set scooters on fire.

People vandalize these.

It's a low percentage of vandalism, though.

I was just in another city the other day,

and we had 10,000 rides and we had

18 vandalism complaints.

So, when you think about the amount of ridership.

So, the irresponsible media blows this up.

Whenever there's something new,

the media always hype the problems.

Some people call these scooters a nuisance.

Which makes it odd that this city,

Washington,

welcomed scooters.

What I love about the District is

they are letting us innovate in this space and

How can that be?

This is Washington, D.C.,

they regulate everything!

Well, they're regulating us too, but

in a very responsible way.

Good for D.C.!

Not often I get to say that.

One last twist:

So let's scan.

The scooters even create new ways to make money.

Loading.

Accept!

Accept!

We did it!

Yes!

When scooters lose battery power,

scooter companies pay people, like this family,

to find them,

pick them up,

and charge them at home,

$5 to $20 dollars for every scooter they charge.

What do you do with the money?

Um, well I'm gonna try and invest.

So kids make money,

people have a new form of transport that's green,

it's good exercise,

takes up less space than cars.

Maybe, just maybe,

the politicians will leave them alone.

Woohoo,

that's a bad one

right there boy!

Foreign YouTube: Brazil - Duration: 10:25.

Oh, hey there!

Nice to see you're spending your time wisely by watching more videos here on YouTube.

I'd like to welcome you to the first episode of what I'm calling "Foreign YouTube."

You see, all of us who have an account here on YouTube have selected a country for that account.

You probably never gave much thought to it.

You just selected whatever country you're from,

and then got right back to enriching your life by watching cats fall into toilets.

But something interesting about your country selection

is that it actually affects what videos YouTube shows to you.

So, the idea with this Foreign YouTube series is that I'll select a foreign country for my own account—

if you haven't guessed already, I'm American—

O, say can you—

And after selecting a foreign country, I'll check out the trending page

to see some of that country's most popular and therefore best videos,

and then present them to you along with my hilarious, fascinating, illuminating commentary.

It'll be just like traveling to that country,

but without the hassle of having to steal someone's credit card to pay for airfare.

The subject of today's video is Brazil, which is . . .

a . . . fairly large country in South America, I guess.

Uh . . .

They have oil.

I can't really be bothered to look up anything more. I'm . . .

a little bit busy being a YouTuber, thank you very much, so let's just look at that trending tab.

Now, I scrolled through a few times, up and down, back and forth,

and the video that caught my eye the most was this one.

I'm going to guess from the thumbnail that it's about laundry.

Laundry tips?

Like maybe how to remove cachaça stains from your favorite t-shirt.

But, let's find out.

Okay, it's, uh . . .

It's clearly not about laundry tips, I can see that now.

And, you know, I can admit when I'm wrong,

unlike some 45th presidents of the United States.

So anyway, this woman is looking through her husband's jeans,

and she finds a piece of paper with a phone number written on it, along with the name Merylu.

And she's understandably quite pissed about that.

And, you know, I don't blame her for being pissed, because . . .

what the hell is this guy doing writing down phone numbers on a piece of paper

when he could just enter the number into his phone straight away?

That is an egregious waste of paper.

Has this guy not heard about conserving natural resources?

Yeah, you let him have it, sister.

Fuckin'

asshole.

Now, I was going to just stick to the trending tab, but as I was watching that last video,

I couldn't help noticing another one in my recommendations.

I've gotta say, the thumbnail got me pretty excited right away,

I think you can guess why.

Uh . . .

That is clearly a car right there, people,

and anyone who knows me knows that I am a car freak.

I love everything about them.

Uh, if you put a car in your thumbnail, I'm going to click on it, so . . .

Let's watch this car video.

Okay, we've got a few cars right in the first shot. We're off to a good start.

All right, I get it. So, this guy is asking for directions.

Um . . . I don't blame him. Those streets look like a nightmare to figure out.

Uh . . .

He's clearly not satisfied with the directions that he's getting from this . . . uh . . .

individual.

I know the face that I make when I get bad directions, and . . .

That's it right there.

So, now he's going to ask this woman, who appears to be a more knowledgeable citizen, and . . .

Wow, she's even getting in the car to guide him there.

I guess it must be a really difficult route to follow, and uh—

Okay.

Uh . . .

This is an unexpected turn.

Yeah, there is clearly something wrong with the suspension on that car.

It, uh . . .

It shouldn't be doing that, especially not when parked.

All right, so, he's clearly very satisfied with the directions that she gave him.

Uh, he's even paying her for them, but . . .

They don't seem to be discussing the problem with the car at all, and—

Oh, man, it's happening again, uh . . .

Yeah, well, he's clearly happy that he got where he needed to go, but . . .

I don't know if . . .

Brazilians aren't aware of the importance of regular automobile maintenance, or if—

Oh my god, it's happening a third time!

And now they've got a problem with the horn and the turn signal, as well.

I would think at this point they would have to realize that something is wrong with the car.

Nope.

Paying for the directions again, with a big ol' smile on his face.

Oblivious.

It's a . . .

it's a disturbing video.

So, I think I need a bit of a palate cleanse after that one,

and back in the trending tab, we've got this video.

Uh, I really like the channel name, "DONKEY13."

Originally, I was going to call my channel "MULE69,"

but then I decided to go with "Dan Hauer" for something a little bit edgier.

And I don't understand Portuguese,

but I think it's pretty clear that we're looking at 50 lighters and 4000 phosphorous matches,

so that is going to be one heck of an explosion, people.

I think we need to get ready for a big-ass fireball

in 3 . . .

2 . . .

1!

I don't . . . uh . . .

What is the fucking hold up?

Oh, did you catch that? He's telling us to smash that Like button.

I guess some things really do transcend national boundaries.

"Smash that Like button!"

So anyway, these guys flap their gums for a while,

and then finally, 8:48 into the video, we get the promised explosion.

Yeah, that was a great 60 seconds of actual content, guys, thanks.

Anyway, back in the trending tab, I found this little video.

Looks kind of cool. The animation style reminds me a bit of TheOdd1sOut,

and that's a neat YouTube channel,

so maybe this is sort of the Brazilian take on that style of video.

Let's find out.

Okay, this must just be the intro. I'm sure they're going to get to the animation soon.

What the fuck, guys?

I'm going to take the liberty of making a more accurate thumbnail for you.

BOOM!

That was easy.

Jesus, I haven't been this disappointed since the Lula scandal.

So now, I really want to find something good in the trending tab.

Um, this one,

"LIBERTAMOS O GÊNIO DA LÂMPADA."

Now, I know my pronunciation there was perfect, but that doesn't mean I understand what it all means.

I'm going to guess that it's "Freeing the Genie of the Lamp."

You know, normally I don't support witchcraft and other occult practices, but . . .

I'm going to give this video a shot.

Oh, okay, it's actually not occult at all, they'd doing some real science.

Hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate . . .

And, uh . . .

Wow, that's pretty dope right there, I mean,

they're doing some badass science demonstrations for Brazilian kids to watch,

and it looks like a lot of them are watching.

Jesus, what are . . .

what are American children watching these days?

So, I must say, Brazil . . .

nicely done on the kids' science videos.

It's almost enough to make me forgive your negligent car maintenance habits.

Now, there was one more trending video I wanted to check out:

this guy, with the crazy rainbow-colored hair.

I don't know if you guys remember, a while back Gus Johnson reminded us

that if you're a big YouTuber, you've got to dye your hair a stupid color.

"Well, now I gotta dye my hair a really stupid color."

"Why is that?"

"I don't know."

And this guy, well . . .

he must be really big, so let's check this out.

Uh . . .

he looks really different here than he did in the thumbnail.

Oh, okay, I get it.

This isn't one of Felipe Neto's videos, it's just a video talking about him.

So, uh, let's go ahead and look up Felipe Net—

Whoooooooa, NELLY, look at that subscriber count!

24 million!

If he's not Brazil's biggest, he must be pretty damn close,

and, ladies and gentlemen, Felipe Neto has got the hair to go with that subscriber count.

In fact, he lets his fans choose a new color for him every time he gets another million subs.

So, let's take a trip backward in time through the many flavors . . .

of Felipe Neto.

Wow! That was pretty dope.

But wait till my channel reaches 24 million subs, and you see what I do with my hair.

That's really going to blow your minds.

And I think we'll call it quits there.

Brazil, thanks for having me. I enjoyed my visit,

but it's "smash that like button" for now,

and I hope to see all of you next time.

August 2018 Market Update | Oakville Real Estate | Fionna Gossling - Duration: 5:00.

Hi, I'm Fionna Gosling from Royal LePage

in Oakville, Ontario and I'm here to

talk to you about the August monthly

stats of what happened in the Oakville

market, real estate market in August 2018.

So I start at a very high level. You can

see I'm comparing August 2018 over

August 2017 and sales were up

year-over-year by about 17 percent. So

August 2017 we had two hundred and

twenty four sales in all types of

property, of residential resale

properties versus two hundred and sixty

three this year; so that's good we're

having a little bit more activity over

last August. We have more product to

choose from there's about 10% more

properties on the market this year over

last year and our months of inventory

are down so that means if we continue to,

if no new properties came to the

market, it would take us 2.9

months to sell out everything that we

currently have on the market. Now as we

get into this update a little bit you'll

see that that number is really dependent,

that's an average of all property types,

so it really does depend if you're

selling a detached or townhouse or condo

but we'll get to that.

Our average sale price is down by about

4% over August 2017 and that number does

fluctuate. It is up over last month so we

are on an upward trajectory, which is

great and our days on market have jumped

quite a bit to 36 days, so we've had a

50% increase of days on market. So here I

track everything that's happened in 2018

which is perhaps a more telling picture

because you can start to get a sense of

what is actually happening over the

course of the year in the market. In

August our sales were down a little bit

over July. We had 263 sales this

August, in July we had 291; so that's down

quite a bit.

Our number of units available are also

down so there's less product on the

market and our months of inventory are

down. So the things that are on there, are

selling and our sale price you can see

is up to a, our average sale price,

is up to 1 million and 24,000 versus a

million and 13,000 the month before.

This is probably the most useful thing if you

are actually thinking about buying or

selling a house because, what it's

telling, it breaks it down by our

detached properties, townhouses, or

apartments. The number of sales that

we've actually had in that month, so in

August we had 130 detached sales, 48

townhouse sales, and 49 apartment sales.

This is the number of properties you had

to choose from,

that are currently on the market, if you

were interested in buying in one of

those types of properties. This I find

very interesting. So months of inventory

for detached home is four months and

that is the high end of a seller's

market, creeping towards a balanced

market. When you get five to six months

of inventory that's a balanced market. So

right now if you're selling a detached

home you have to be priced really

sharply, there's quite a bit of

opportunity out there for buyers and so

you have to prepare your home really

well and price it well, in order to get

that kind of activity and get it sold.

Townhouses there's only two point two

months of inventory and condos there's

even less at one point seven months of

inventory. And you can see the average

sale price of the various properties

here and the days on market remain

pretty consistent, which is interesting

that those would be given the months of

inventory. Here you can go to my website

at www.fionnagossling.com/marketupdate

market update

I think and and then by the neighbourhood.

All of this historical information is

there but this is very interesting to me

because I like numbers and statistics

but it also tells us what's happening in

each particular neighbourhood. So those

averages are great and they paint a

general picture but if you are actually

looking to buy or sell a house in a

particular neighbourhood, you want to

really drill down to the local level and

figure out what's happening and this

slide will give you a little bit more

information as to what's going on there.

If you had any specific questions

about the real estate market please feel

free to reach out. It is such a local

game that if you wanted to know what was

happening in your neighbourhood, I would

be happy to do more concise analysis for

you. Talk to you soon.
