How to Make Henry Phillip's Anytime Chili || Henry's Kitchen - Duration: 5:32.

- Hi, I'm Henry Phillips.

And, I've been cooking for almost six years now.

And, I've been teaching it for even longer.

And, when the folks at Thrillist approached me

about making my own master chef class,

I took this as an opportunity to share

the vast amounts of knowledge that I've accumulated

over the last six years.

And, in case you're not familiar with my work,

we've handpicked some of my

more popular recipes to show you.

Starting with this one, that started it all.

Henry's Anytime Chili for One.

Hello, and welcome to Henry's Kitchen.

Where today, we're gonna be making

Henry's Anytime Chili for One.

We're gonna preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

And, you really wanna make sure you--

Let's start by cutting our tomato.

We wanna cut it into eight separate wedges.

As you see, I probably should've used

a slightly sharper knife, 'cause this...

Mince the bell pepper.

Now, we're gonna mince the onion.

I remember when I was growing up in New Jersey,

my brother and I used to fight all the time.

And, one time he threw a rock at me,

and he hit me in the head I guess.

And, my head started to bleed.

Now, we're gonna take all this

and put it in a bowl for later.

The recipe that I'm using makes it for six to eight people,

but I'm only making chili for one.

So, I'm gonna be dividing every one

of the ingredients by seven.

So, instead of one can of kidney beans,

I'm only gonna use about one seventh of a can.

Three seventh's of a can of tomato sauce.

I don't have tomato sauce, but I have tomato paste.

Which is the same thing.

(tapping)

30 milliliters of Worcestershire sauce.

By the way, my recipe is in metric,

so I'm converting as I go.

15 milliliters is one tablespoon.

So, two tablespoons divided by seven,

that would be two seventh's of a tablespoon

of Worcestershire sauce.

I don't have any Worcestershire sauce,

but I have soy sauce.

Ten grams of chili powder, that's one and a third

tablespoons divided by seven, is like, uh.

It's like one, it's like two seventh's of a tablespoon

or something, I don't know.

Teaspoon of salt.

Teaspoon of pepper.

Some canned veggies.

Now, just stir it all up.

It's very important when you're making dinner

just for one, to divide every ingredient.

One time I forgot to divide the salt,

and I put 10 times as much salt

as you were supposed to have.

And, I was like, oh man, I (beep) it all up.

And now, we'll put it in our oven.

Okay, we're gonna let that simmer for six full hours.

Plenty of time to work up an appetite.

(water splashing)

I mean, it should definitely be done at this point.

Mm.

I Quit! - Duration: 12:15.

(Music)

TERRI: Hey, I'm Terri Savelle Foy, your cheerleader of dreams.

I pray, as you invest in yourself today, your captivated,

and your catapulted to live your dreams. If you've never

subscribed to this podcast, just push the little the red button

to get consistent teaching tools and tips to help you live your

dreams. In fact, today, I want to talk to you about quitting.

This is titled, I Quit. My husband had a distant relative

who was playing the lottery one day and won, I think, it was

$1,000 playing the lottery. She went up to her boss, she worked

at a convenience store, she went up to her boss, and she held up

the ticket, and she told her boss, "I quit." That's not what

I'm talking about, that type of quitting, because then, I think,

a few weeks later she went and got the job back, bless her

heart. Anyway, I'm not referring to not having stickability and

the art of staying with things until they succeed, there's so

much truth in that. Some of you have heard how it took me six

years to get one million views on this podcast. Well, now we

have a million views every six weeks. Well, I had to learn to

not quit. That's not what I'm referring to when I say, to

quit. There is a plus side to quitting. Now, let me explain.

Sometimes, the best thing you can do to win is to quit

something. Here's what I mean by this message. Brendon Burchard

is an amazing success coach. He's interviewed the highest

performers in any field, I'm talking about sports,

entertainment, sales, real estate, business, in order to

write a book on the performance habits. Now, these are things

that he repeatedly observed as the top six career and business

habits that lead to longterm success. Well, after dozens and

dozens of interviews and three years writing this book, this

was the first habit ... Now, keep in mind, a habit is

something you do repeatedly. This was the first habit he

discovered that is so shocking and so hard to do, but it leads

to massive success. He said they have a habit of quitting the

wrong things fast, quitting the wrong things fast. "Now, when

you talk with the world's highest performers, they have a

pretty obvious pattern," he said, "of quitting." He said,

"And frankly, they quit faster than other people." He said it's

an actual observable pattern. Well, it was so obvious that

they were conscious of what was right for them and what was

wrong for them. When they felt something was wrong for them,

they cut and run, he said. Well, of course, we're taught things

like, quitting means choosing to lose, quitting means you're

taking the easy way out, quitting means you don't have

perseverance, or you didn't try hard enough, or quitting means

you're unclear about your vision. Well, I firmly believe

that not quitting is an admirable trait. I'm the

cheerleader of dreams, who teaches discipline. The secret

of your future is in your daily routine. I even have a magazine

called, The Routine. Keep doing it over, and over, and over, and

never stop. However, there are some things that you may need to

quit or stop doing, because God has something different. You've

learned what you need to learn from this endeavor, and in order

for you to go to the next level, you need to quit something.

Here's the distinction that Brandon pointed out. He said

these high performers didn't quit because it got difficult.

He said that's not what this is about. They're not quitting due

to hardship. They're quitting because it's the wrong thing.

See, they understand that struggle is just part of the

journey. They aren't quitting because of a lack progress.

They're quitting because it's not right for them. In fact,

Joyce Meyer says, "When you're trying to discover God's will

for your life, you have to step out and find out." I have

friends who have started churches, and a couple years

into it realized it wasn't God's ultimate plan for them, but they

had to step out and go for it. They learned so much from that

experience that is total preparation for the bigger

picture that God has. I admire that. I'd rather take a risk and

find out than just wonder my whole life. It it's wrong, quit,

stop, don't force it to work. Go find what it right for you. I

have other friends who always aspire to have their own Italian

restaurant. They took a big risk and stepped out, opened a

bistro, and hated it. Well, that's great. They took a big

step of faith to see if this is really what God had for them. I

admire that. You know what? It prepared them for having an

amazing business now. My husband, he has done so many

things, I could just list them. He sold boot beer cups at a

carnival. Boot beer floats, not root beer, boot beer. They were

in a boot cup. Heat warmers, foam cards, t-shirts. Well, now

he has one of the largest arcade distributors in the south. He

buys and sells real estate, and properties, and develops it, and

stuff. One time, I remember, he branched out and he opened a

retail shop for home entertainment. He hated it. You

know what? He quit. He quit doing that. Well, my point is, I

admire people for stepping out in faith, but I also admire

admitting when it's the wrong thing and get out. Thomas Edison

said, "I failed my way to success." Oprah says, "When you

stumble, it just means, oops, detour." God has a way of taking

what went wrong and turning it into success, because we all

make mistakes. In fact, I have, right here, Ivory soap. Do you

know that it wasn't supposed to float, but because a batch was

left in the mixer too long, apparently it had a large volume

of air whipped into it, and the mistake became its unique

selling point. It's the soap that floats. I read where

Kellogg's Corn Flakes, this resulted when boiled

wheat was left in a baking pan overnight. All of a

sudden, they thought, well, let's put milk with it and turn

it into cereal. I've also read where Scott Towels ... Listen to

this. These were launched when a toilet paper machine put too

many layers of tissue together, so they turned the toilet paper

into paper towels. What I'm saying is, no matter what the

outcome is, you will learn from it. It's preparing you for the

right thing or the next thing that God has for you. Remember,

quitters quit because of hardship, winners quit because

of priority and just a sensing inside that this season has

ended. For example, you think about Simon Cowell. He walked

away from what one magazine called the most lucrative job in

the history of television. In fact, one magazine said that his

work has been at the very apex of entertainment. I read where,

last season, the average viewers were 26 million watching

American Idol. Well, in leaving Idol, Cowell walked away from a

crazy compensated job, one requiring very little in return

from him. Now, what I heard was he was paid in the neighborhood

of $50 million a year with much, much, more on the table, if he

had returned to American Idol. Think about that. In fact,

Simon's job description, they say, was four months, each year,

to show up two days away for about three hours at a CBS lot

where American Idol was filmed. He would sit in his chair,

listen to handful of performances, deliver

off-the-cuff opinions, no rehearsal, and from what they

say, within no more than 15 minutes of the credit rolling,

Simon Cowell was behind the wheel of his Bugatti driving

away. His day's work was done. Think about that. In sheer

dollars per hours of work, Cowell's deal is incomparable to

anything else in entertainment. That's from the dailybeast.com.

Still, he quit. Why? Well, in a show I saw called Objectified, I

saw Simon Cowell explain that he quit American Idol because he

was having that Sunday night, Monday morning, dreadful

feeling. He said there was no more passion. He was miserable.

He was bored. He said that's when he knew it was time to

quit. How do these high performers know when it's time

to quit? Number one, there's no peace. Now, I do believe that

God leads us and speaks to us inside. He said in His Word, "My

sheep know my voice." Joyce Meyer says, "One of the biggest

signs that you're out of the will of God is the Holy Spirit

withdraws your peace. You just don't have peace." Number two,

Brendon said, "Identify what makes you bored or miserable."

Number three, identify that which makes you come alive. When

you entertain the thought of quitting this thing, how does it

make you feel? Do you feel light? Do you feel peace? Do you

feel excitement? These can be indicators that God is getting

ready to do a new thing. Now, a major point, real quick, Brendon

Burchard said, "You don't have to know every step along the

way. If you know that this thing is making you miserable, after

you tried to engage in it, you tried to be passionate about it,

you gave it your best, but it didn't get any more fulfilling,

that's when it's time to quit." John Maxwell says, "What are you

going to give up to go up?" Leave or quit that which makes

you miserable or bored for that which makes you motivated and

come alive. Hope you enjoyed this. If God's speaking to you,

just start journaling your time with the Lord and I believe

you'll know what to do. Let me just say real quick, our

subscriber of the week, I'm so proud of you. This is Lilia

Restoseva. Some of these names are just amazing. I love it. She

admirable trait. I'm the cheerleader of dreams, like I

Best Magnet Fishing Knot - Duration: 2:29.

hey everyone J Three B here I got my rope I

have my magnet and I'm gonna show you

how to tie the best not for magnet fishing

so the knot I'm about to show you I've

been using for a real long time now when

I'm magnet fishing and all the videos I

have this is not I've been using and

I'll tell you to do this video it took

me about 10 minutes to untie the knot

just so I can show you I almost got to

the point I was gonna say I'll just cut

it start fresh but I got it untied so

the first thing you want to do just have

the end bring like that make a little

loop but a foot long then you'll want to

put that right through the magnet

about centred if you guys can see that

there now the next step just like you're

tying a regular knot but do it loosely

and leave this loop here so you can

bring the magnet right through like that

and then just slowly work the knot down

you got to do a little bit of tugging

and pulling but it will work out

it's a little bit of a slow process but

well worth it this is a very very strong

just down like that and make sure it's

knot eventually you're gonna have it

real snug

it's still tight enough that it can move

it can sway that is not gonna come out

now I normally leave the slack but it's

up to you you can get rid of it if you

are gonna cut it leave yourself at least

an inch, inch and a half and because this

is a paracord I can burn the edge so

it's not going to slide back through but

I like to leave the slack just so I can

untie it if I need to attach a different

size magnet or something like that

but that is it that is how you tied the

best knot for magnet fishing. I know those other

videos out there with different

tutorials it's up to you if you want to

use this one or not but this is the one

I use I know it works and this is the

one I wanted to share with you anyways

thank you guys for sticking around and

watching be sure to watch my video for

the beginner's guide of magnet fishing

you guys will like that and also check

down in the description below for a

LGR - Massive 7X NEC CD-ROM Changer From 1995! - Duration: 17:18.

[keyboard clicking]

[soft jazz music]

Greetings and this is kind of a monstrous LGR thing.

This is the NEC MultiSpin 4Xc quad-speed

external CD-ROM changer.

And this holds seven CDs inside

of one beefy piece of 90s hardware.

This is the model number CDR-C302,

and was released at a suggested retail price

of 350 US dollars in the summer of 1995.

This is something I have wanted to mess with

ever since I was a kid and saw them

in various electronics stores.

I mean, at the time I didn't even have a CD-ROM,

so the fact that there were these

gigantic CD-ROM changers

(laughs)

talk about forbidden fruit,

holy grail kind of material

at least for 10-year-old me.

Now, sure, audio CD changers are nothing special.

In fact, every time I go thrifting

I'm seeing all sorts of different CD changers,

like those that load from cartridges

and have gigantic spindles where you can fit

hundreds of CDs like these from Pioneer

or even those with spinning trays.

But a CD-ROM changer, now that is

not as common, at least in my experience.

I don't know. I just didn't see these as much.

I've never used one of these external ones,

and it's not to say any of these things

are rare necessarily, but they're not

the most immediate thing that you might go for

if you're wanting to install a CD-ROM

on your retro computer nowadays.

I mean, seriously, this is just silly.

However, silly 90s hardware is kind of my forte,

and even though I don't cover them super often,

so are CD-ROM games with tons of CDs in the box.

Games like Black Dahlia, Ripper, and Phantasmagoria

pretty much sold themselves on being multi-disk games.

Phantasmagoria in particular is the one

that comes to mind with this,

because the game was famous for having seven disks.

Let's go ahead and get this brand new one unboxed,

because, yeah, it's still sealed.

I happily bought this quite a while ago on eBay,

and was just like: one of these days I'll get around to it.

And this is that day.

(plastic tearing)

Oh yeah.

(plastic tearing)

All right, got some more information here.

It does store up to seven CD-ROMs.

And look at all these other things.

This is a quad-speed unit, by the way,

and it uses SCSI-2 to connect.

They did release...

NEC that is, released a whole bunch

of these different disk changers like this

for PCs back in the day.

And this just happens to be the largest one

that I'm aware of, so that's why I wanted it.

Oh, that's a...

(laughs)

That's a comforting note.

Look at this.

Caution: use of control of adjustments

or performance of procedures other than those

specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

I mean...

All right.

We got some cables here.

There's a SCSI cable, 50-pin.

It looks like SCSI-2.

We got a power cable, and the drive itself.

Look how neatly that is taped up.

Man, it's like a gift-wrapped present.

Whoa! Look at that.

It looks so good.

That is a fine-looking piece of hardware,

brand new, not yellowed at all, which is great.

I was wondering if it would hold up nicely.

This part is, feels like painted metal.

This plastic on front could very well yellowed.

I've seen some yellowed units online.

This one didn't.

Oh yeah.

(laughs)

This just screams greatness.

I don't know.

Something about these industrially designed

kind of CD-ROM units, it reminds me of much older CD-ROMs.

This was manufactured in June 1995.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

That's awesome.

Little rubbery buttons, they feel okay.

Volume wheel there,

3 1/2-millimeter audio jack for headphones.

I cannot wait to use this.

We've got a note here on some very neon paper.

"Attention. Read me first!"

Let's see. What do we got?

Some notes here for Macintosh Quadra users,

other Macintosh users, and Corel's SCSI-2 diskette

does some things that don't really seem to pertain to me.

All right, I'm not gonna be installing this on a Macintosh.

We're gonna be going with Windows 98, because I want to.

Actually, maybe Windows 95, I don't know yet.

This is cool.

What is all this?

Oh, that has pretty much lost every...

(rubber band snaps)

Ooh, yep, that's just a very gummy rubber band.

Even after 23 years those can perish.

Apparently their own interface didn't have

the 50-pin high-density connector,

which my Adaptec card does have that.

So let's see here.

A Macintosh driver on a disk.

Got a warranty card here, or really a registration card

for warranty and other such things.

This is an interesting form factor for instructions.

It's more like a calendar.

Okay, so Windows drivers are installed

through the Corel driver kit.

Okay, well...

Aha, I feel a disk in here.

Corel SCSI Version 2.

(disk thumps)

There we go, (laughs) a very nondescript

3-1/2-inch high-density floppy diskette right here.

Welcome to Corel's SCSI.

You can use virtually any SCSI device and

ASPI-compatible host adaptor with Corel SCSI.

What is this?

We've got a mounting plate or something.

No, no, no. This is an adaptor.

Aha.

Inside the bag we get a smaller bag,

and inside the smaller bag, a three-inch CD-ROM adaptor.

How handy.

It did say we would need one of those

in order to use them in here so I'm glad it came with that.

I gotta see what's inside this though.

It's just so large.

Let's see what we got here.

Well, it's so colorful.

Wow.

It's a very pretty internal set of goods here

even though we're not really seeing a whole lot.

How appealing. (laughs)

Well, all right. Well that's that.

Let's go ahead and get this installed into the...

or connected to the Lazy Green Giant

Windows 98 PC and see what happens.

So as far as getting this connected, really it's just

a matter of plugging in SCSI cable to both sides.

And I'm needing to use one of my other cables

because the one it came with does not have

the proper 50-pin connector on the other side

to plug into the PC, but that's okay.

All the feature-selection switches

should be in the correct spots

for what we're gonna be doing.

So the termination is on.

Parity check is on.

SCSI ID number is default.

Power goes right here.

Got the correct voltage, of course.

And I decided to go with Windows 95.

So I've got that...

(card thumps)

Got that on an SD card right there.

So that's gonna go right there.

(thunky-thunk)

Just curious if I can power on

the drive before powering the PC.

Let's see here.

(whirring)

Well that was quite an assortment of sounds.

(laughs)

So yeah, you just press the button.

It will eject the inner tray out

into the actual ejection tray thing.

And then you can press another one

and it'll swap the inner tray part and there we go.

Yeah, nice little labeling right there.

I was wondering how that handled things.

All right, well let's try some games out.

Yeah.

This is gonna be awesome.

All right, let's power it all on.

(whirring)

(rattling)

That's a good sign, I guess.

And it is detected.

(beep)

And Windows 95.

[Windows 95 startup sound plays]

So first order of business is get this

Corel software installed, I suppose,

although it might have detected something already hopefully.

Yeah.

(laughs)

It has seven individual CD drives.

Okay. Let's get this disk going, see what we get.

This looks ridiculous.

Come on now.

This appears to be largely for

getting this to work under DOS mode.

I don't know.

Let's just try it without doing anything else.

So I'm just going to try a single CD-ROM game at the moment.

I'm gonna go with StarCraft.

Okay.

Now I'll know how to run so just to try to refresh,

see what happens.

Absolutely nothing.

So chances are we do need that software.

Load it in high memory.

Why not?

Okay, I just restarted

and the drive started doing crazy things so...

(error sound)

Still got nothing.

I don't know.

Reinstalled it following all the instructions

in the manual, nothing.

So I'm gonna try Windows 98.

Rather annoyingly, a lot of the stuff it's referring to

in here does not come on the disk at all.

All right, once again we have these seven drives detected.

(chime)

Not accessible.

All right. So I've got the LGR Woodgrain 486 going over here

since Windows was not having fun with this drive.

And I don't know if you saw that

but the SCSI adaptor installed will actually

automatically see this as the other one did, but...

And this is what I'm going to be using

to get the drive working, this EZ-SCSI Standard Edition.

Thank goodness for things like this.

Honestly, this is gonna be way easier,

at least if it works with this drive.

It should. It has, in my experience

with other external CD drives.

Yeah. There is the host adaptor.

It found that on port 340-H.

And now it's gonna be scanning for anything plugged into it,

which it has seen this, which is good.

That's a good sign.

Here we go.

What is the first drive letter

you would like EZ-SCSI to reserve for your CD-ROM drive?

So I'm gonna start with...

Actually, I'm gonna go with E because

I have an internal drive as well

so we're gonna start there, make all the mods for me.

(beep)

And we're gonna do the same thing over here.

(beep)

Okay.

And we'll go ahead and restart.

(laughs)

Yup.

So we've got seven targets.

And yes, awesome, awesome, awesome.

So it has assigned drive letters

to each of the seven individual drives here.

And I've still got Gravis UltraSounds stuff.

I'm gonna go ahead and...

(typing)

change that really quick (laughs)

cause we don't have a Gravis UltraSound installed.

At this point we should just be able to

stick all of these CDs in here.

There's disk one.

And there's disk two.

And here's disk three.

Number four.

Yeah. That's looking better.

I've got the Sound Blaster Pro going now.

So we will have sound.

Disk five.

(laughs)

It's a ridiculous process.

Disk six.

Oh my goodness, finally disk frigging seven.

There we go.

We got all seven disks of Phantasmagoria installed

so we should just be able to go over

to each individual drive by letter, starting with E.

And this will be disk one.

So it'll switch over to that and read slowly.

(laughs)

And there we go.

It's actually not terribly slow.

I mean it is a quad-speed drive running over SCSI-2

so it should be relatively quick.

But yeah, switching is a bit of an ordeal

because of course it has to physically

take something from that internal caddy

and move it out into this loading tray up to the laser.

And then there we go.

So that's disk two.

And then G, of course, would be disk three and so on,

all the way through the alphabet up to disk seven.

This does lead to a bit of a limitation

in the sense that we're not gonna be able

to physically move one disk internally from...

Say if we wanted to move disk four

over to drive one or the E drive, we can't do that.

Disk one is always gonna be E.

So it depends on the software really.

Let's just ahead and load up Phantasmagoria here and see.

(typing loudly)

Straightforward installation for this,

it's only needing disk one in order to do that

so we're gonna actually have to run the game and...

(laughs)

What is that?

SIERRA/SCARYDOS?

(laughs)

Oh, I've never actually seen the

DOS version of Phantasmagoria installer folder.

That's...

(laughs)

That's wonderful.

(scary music)

(roar)

(laughs)

What a game.

(dramatic music)

Such dramatics.

I'm gonna go ahead and start a new game here

and get to the chapter selection screen.

So if we just started with one it'll continue on.

Each chapter is on each disk

so let's just skip to chapter two

and see if it'll figure out that...

(laughs)

No it doesn't.

I kind of suspected that just due to what I knew

about the way that this works internally.

In fact I think it was on the box.

All right, so you can kind of see here

there are these trays in the back

that each one of the CDs is inserted to

whenever you insert it into the drive.

But then this actual loading tray

will go and retrieve one of the disks

and bring it up to the laser.

The thing is, it only does that

whenever you're doing the eject and insertion process.

So in order for me to get CD two

to this game to be able to read it,

I'd have to physically swap it over,

which completely defeats the purpose

of having all these multi-disk games

on a multi-CD-ROM changer like this.

If it had some sort of other mechanism

which would actually take the CD

and then move it over to the laser assembly

so it would read it from the same drive letter,

then that would be ideal for F&V games,

multi-disk games like this that just swap out

and don't actually ask for another drive letter.

Since this is looking for the same drive letter

every single time a disk swap occurs,

then we're stuck with this limitation.

All right, let's get to some acting.

- In here, in the bedroom.

- What are you doing?

- [LGR] Role-playing, gosh.

- I'm starting my new book.

- So what?

Did you go buy the drain cleaner?

- [LGR] The drain cleaner.

Oh, this is a great scene.

- What? Drain cleaner?

- [LGR] And by great I mean terrible.

- Don't be coy with me.

I asked you several times to go buy me drain cleaner.

Now did you do it?

(LGR laughs loudly)

- Well, I know you said the sink was clogging your darkroom,

but you never asked me to go get you any drain cleaner.

I would have remembered...

- [LGR] Oh, it's just the most

endearing kind of terrible.

Put your laptop away.

You can check your AOL email address later.

You don't have mail.

Most unfortunate that I'm not gonna be able

to actually play through this.

I mean I could.

I would have to physically swap the disk out like a caveman.

What's the point of that?

Honestly, I didn't even think about that

when I picked this one out online.

I just remember seeing it back in the day,

saw it show up on eBay (laughs) and didn't think about it.

I'm like: "holy crap, it's great."

"I want this thing."

And plus it looks neat.

Doesn't it?

It just looks great.

But for multi-disk games it's kinda pointless,

at least if it's a game like this that is gonna look

in the same exact drive designation

every single time it's swapping a disk.

So if anybody has any recommendations

of a retro drive that would accomplish this...

I mean I know of a few myself,

but if you used one back in the day, do let me know.

I would appreciate any kind of recommendations

cause honestly, I would love to get

a six or seven-disk changer that actually lets me

swap between those and keep the disk

in the same drive letter every single time it swaps disks.

Kind of a shame we couldn't get it working in Windows

but we'd be in the same boat anyway.

It works the same, either operating system.

But hopefully you still had fun with the unboxing

and set up and everything else that we were doing.

I enjoyed it anyway.

And if you did, perhaps you'd like to stick around.

There are new videos every week here on LGR.

And as always, thank you very much for watching!

Types of Caves for Kids - How Caves are Formed for Children - FreeSchool - Duration: 3:57.

You're watching FreeSchool!

They may seem dark and mysterious, but we know a lot about caves.

A cave is a natural opening in the ground with a hollow space beneath the surface large

enough for people to enter.

Caves can be formed in many different ways.

Caves are usually made when rainwater sinks into the ground or drains into cracks in the

rocks.

Rain has a tiny bit of acid in it, and when it soaks through soil it collects some more.

This acid allows it to slowly dissolve certain kinds of rock, like limestone, marble, or

gypsum.

As the stone is dissolved hollows are left behind, and gradually a cave is formed.

This type of cave, called a solution cave, often contains special rock formations.

These formations are created when water carrying minerals trickles through the cave.

As the water drips and then later evaporates, it leaves behind a thin layer of minerals.

Over many years these build up, creating huge stone structures.

Two examples of rock formations found in caves are stalactites and stalagmites.

Stalactites hang from the roof of a cave like an icicle, while stalagmites come up from

the floor of a cave like a column.

The ocean can create caves, as well.

When waves beat against rock at the shore, they erode, or break down and carry away particles

of stone.

These waves may create arches, or sea stacks, but sometimes openings and hollows are created.

These are called sea caves.

Water is not the only force that can form caves - they can also be formed by the action

of volcanoes.

Sometimes the outside of a lava flow hardens but the inside remains molten.

When the lava drains out, the outer shell remains, forming a lava cave.

At times the lava makes long tunnels instead, and then they are called lava tubes.

There are still more ways for caves to be created.

Earthquakes, glaciers, and wind can all make caves of different types.

No matter how they are made, caves are unique landforms that provide an exceptional view

into the interior of our planet.

Chicken and Eggs Galore | Little Life on the Prairie - Duration: 2:01.

WOW. LOOK AT THE CHICKENS.

YEAH. DO YOU SEE THE CHICKENS?

THEY'RE FULLY FEATHERED NOW, SO THEY CAN LIVE OUTSIDE.

SO, THEY DON'T NEED A HEAT LAMP ANYMORE.

-YEAH. -I LIKE THEM. THEY'RE CUTE.

THEY'RE VERY PRETTY. -YEAH. THEY'RE DIFFERENT.

THEY LAY, LIKE, A SKY-BLUE EGG.

Nate: WHAT'S THE EGG SIZE?

IS IT NORMAL, OR IS IT SLIGHTLY SMALLER?

-NOPE, THEY'RE, LIKE, A MEDIUM. -AWESOME.

HOW MANY EGGS DO YOU GET FROM THESE CHICKENS?

YOU CAN EXPECT EACH CHICKEN TO LAY AN EGG A DAY,

FOR THE MOST PART, ROUGHLY 200 EGGS A YEAR.

WOULD BE GOOD FOR A FAMILY WANTING EGGS.

Lauren: ALL RIGHT. WE'LL BE SWIMMING IN EGGS.

MM-HMM, ORGANIC, FRESH EGGS.

I'M EXCITED TO START, YOU KNOW,

COOKING OMELETS EVERY MORNING.

WE CAN MAKE CRèME BRuLéE.

I LOVE CRèME BRuLéE. YEAH, YOUR FAVORITE.

WE CAN JUST HAVE EGGS GALORE.

ALL RIGHT. HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THIS?

JUNIE, SHOULD MOMMY HELP ME?

-YEAH. -ALL RIGHT. COME ON, MAMA.

LET'S GO GET THESE GUYS.

WELL, THERE'S ONE OVER HERE.

CAN YOU GRAB HIM?

HE'S VERY SKITTISH.

I'VE LITERALLY NEVER HELD A CHICKEN IN MY LIFE

OR BEEN CLOSE ENOUGH TO TOUCH ONE.

-DON'T BE SCARED. -I WON'T.

-I'M JUST A LITTLE NERVOUS. -GO AND KICK THEIR BUTTS.

DON'T BE AFRAID OF CHICKENS. -OH, GOSH.

WHOA, WHOA, WHOA. GRAB HIM.

I THINK YOU'VE GOT TO GET HIM.

GET THAT, DADDY! CHICKEN!

SORRY, GUYS.

Lauren: THIS WAS A LOT HARDER THAN I WAS EXPECTING.

I WAS KIND OF HOPING THAT THE CHICKENS WOULD ALREADY BE

IN A PACKAGED BOX, READY FOR TRANSPORTATION.

Juniper: GOOD JOB, DADDY. GOOD JOB.

LET'S GO GET THE CHICKS.

Nate: YOU WANT TO GET THE CHICKS? DO YOU SEE THE LITTLE CHICKS?

Lauren: LOOK AT THE BABY CHICK.

-DO YOU WANT TO SEE THIS ONE? -LOOK AT THE CHICK.

-HERE, PET THIS ONE. -THEY'RE SO CUTE.

-ARE THEY CUTE? -JUST A LITTLE BABY.

Nate: I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO TEACH JUNIPER

THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TAKING CARE OF THESE ANIMALS.

OBVIOUSLY, SHE'S ONLY 4 1/2 YEARS OLD,

BUT SHE'S VERY MOTHERLY.

Lauren: AND SHE LOVES TO KNOW THAT WE TRUST HER

WITH MORE RESPONSIBILITY,

SO, I THINK SHE'S GOING TO LOVE HAVING HER OWN CHICKS.

YEAH.

-CAN I PUT THAT IN HERE? -SURE.

YOU CAN JUST KEEP THEM NICE AND SAFE IN THIS BOX.

EA Global San Francisco 2018 Highlights - Duration: 1:07.

Hello EA Global!

Really try and indulge your curiosity.

Really try and think, you know, I've been acting on this assumption for quite a while,

but it's something I really want to scrutinize.

We're a community of people who are interested in doing good.

Humanity has the capacity to come together, to work to combat these types of infectious

disease and biological threats on a global scale.

I've started to really believe we could be living in a sort of uniquely high-leverage

moment in history, and when I think about it that way, then I think boy, someone should

really be keeping their eye on this.

Effective altruism transformed the way that I look at the world.

In order to do the most good possible, EAs should expand the scope of what they consider

as potentially impactful, cost-effective interventions.

Above all, over the coming year, we want to keep exploring, and stay curious.
