Unpacking & Storing Nigerian Food Ingredients from Nigeria | All Nigerian Recipes - Duration: 11:01.

Hey guys!

It's time to unpack and put these away.

Before we start, let me answer the most asked question in my last video.

Weight, weight, weight.

What do you do about excess weight?

There were 4 of us and each of us got a baggage allowance of 2 bags, that's 8 bags.

And each bag weighs 23kilos that's 50 pounds.

So we had a grand total of 184 kilos that's 405 pounds in baggage allowance.

This is the free baggage allowance that came with the flight ticket.

That is way more than what we need.

We did not even carry up to 8 bags.

So excess weight was not an issue for us at all.

Once we get back, I put the frozen bitter leaves and snails straight back into the freezer.

I also put the stockfish and dry fish in the freezer.

One, that will prevent my home from having a fishy smell within hours,

and two, any weevils in the fish will die off.

Let the weevils be suffocating there in the meantime while

I sort out every other thing, later I will remove the tapes and repack them.

Usually, even before we travel, I make space in my freezer in readiness

for when we get back with all these food ingredients that need to be kept in the freezer.

I put the crayfish in this food warmer.

It does a good job keeping the smell of the crayfish contained and the crayfish

remains crunchy dry in there for a long long time.

If you have space in your freezer, keep it in your freezer.

My freezer is quite small so perishable ingredients have top priority followed

by fish that may contain weevils.

When buying stockfish and dryfish, I make sure I buy those that do not contain weevils.

Usually there are telltale signs that fish contains weevils.

For instance dust will be flying out when you tap the fish,

it will look old and dull instead of shiny.

It will have a damp feel to it instead of a bone

dry feel.

I spread the groundnuts like this because you want them to remain dry rather than damp.

If damp, they will start sprouting, not good.

When I want to cook the groundnuts, I soak them in cool water overnight so the freshness

will come back.

Then boil as usual.

You can see that some of the pears are going bad already.

So give room for the percentage that will go bad when buying.

The rate at which ube goes bad depends on the type of ube.

Some pears are oilier than others.

The oilier the ube is, the quicker it will go bad.

The irony is that oily ube tastes better than the ones that contain less oil.

I just spread the ube here temporarily because I needed to catch some sleep first.

Ideally as soon as I get back, I would sort out the bad ones,

rinse the good ones very well and put in the freezer.

Ube keeps well in the freezer.

Like, for as long as possible.

But the trick is that when you want to soften it,

throw it into the boiling water while it is still frozen.

And it will be like fresh softened ube when done.

If you leave it to defrost first, it will be like this.

Soft like ube lulu okpo.

I'm not sure how to translate that to English.

Fermented ube?

Yeah, something like that.

Next the fresh vegetables.

This is what they look like.

Still quite fresh, no?

Scent leaves usually go dark first.

I wash them,

chop them,

For the oha, one thing I now do differently since I made the last video

is that rather than chop the oha with a knife, I tear them up with my fingers.

That way, I get better results when I use the frozen oha to cook soup.

That is they are not too dark in the soup.

Knife marks can darken oha leaves.

Put in single use plastic bags,

label them and put in the freezer.

I have a detailed separate video on how I do that.

The link should pop up on the screen right now.

This is what the frozen uziza straight out of the freezer looks like.

And this is the frozen oha.

Still green, eh?

When I want to cook oha soup, I add everything I want to add to the soup.

I add the vegetables while still frozen.

Keep stirring gently till it separates.

Add boiled meat and fish,

stir and take it off the stove immediately

and transfer to a cool container ozigbo ozigbo.

This is the result.

The vegetables look green in the soup, the flavour of the uziza

and the oha are still intact.

You won't know this is prepared with frozen vegetables.

Uma leaves: I remove the stalk, wash them thoroughly,

sort into big and small and store in the freezer.

Uma leaves tsore well in the freezer.

Again I have a detailed videos on this.

Links hould pop up on the screen.

The ugba or ukpaka.

If I want to store it like this in its rubbery state,

I just rinse it and put in the freezer.

But if I want to soften it a bit before storing,

Ukpaka tastes better in the meal when it's softer that is a bit fermented.

So if I want to do that, I put it in a container,

cover it and keep stirring every day till I get the texture I want.

Then I put it in the freezer.

Details in the same video I linked to earlier, the preservation of vegetables video.

For the yams, if there's space in my freezer,

I peel them, cut into cubes, rinse well, put in Ziploc bags and store in my freezer.

If no space in my freezer, just like we have now, everywhere is full,

I just leave it in my kitchen.

It means that we will go on yam diet till the yam finishes else they go bad.

Over the next few days, everybody will be asking:

"Is it only yam that we are eating in this house?"

For the abacha, I just put it in a cupboard.

Abacha lasts for years no problems.

So long as it doesn't come in contact with water, no problems.

I don't even think weevils eat abacha so yeah,

Abacha is that good with storage.

The beans, again, if you have enough space in your freezer,

put the beans in a container and put it in your freezer.

Else, put it in a container,

add dry cayenne pepper,

I have a detailed video on how to do this.

Close the container tight and put in your cupboard or pantry.

These prevent weevils from attacking the beans.

I store ukwa and achicha ede the same way because they are prone to weevil attacks too.

We came back with garden egg, put it in the fridge in the vegetable compartment

or as close to the vegetable compartment as possible.

Garden eggs can last up to a month in the fridge and still be fresh.

We came back with spicy peanut butter, just put that in the fridge.

Bittercola, just put that in your cupboard, putting it in the fridge dries it up so no,

put bittercola in your cupboard.

What else?

I hope I did not forget anything.

I guess that's it!

With this video, I hope I have settled everyone

that has been requesting these series of videos.

The next video will be a recipe video, the real content you signed up

for on this channel!

Bah byeee see you soon!

Motivasyon, Özgüven, Enerjik Olmak, Üniversiteye Hazırlık | Araba Sohbetleri | İlayda Akdoğan - Duration: 16:54.

Good morning! Welcome to Car Talk series everyone.

My lovely Tardis had been tripping, it told me that it wasn't feeling very well, it really wasn't.

We had some some problems with each other.

But finally we fixed everything and we're boosting each other up with my baby.

We are continuing our Car Talk series, we gave a big break.

This break hurt me and made me sad but I saw that you guys also missed it according to the messages I've been receiving.

So I said ''I miss it a lot too.'' And I felt happy on the other side.

We will keep up from where we left. The first thing I want to mention in the beginning of the video:

Please do not be deceived by the earphone on my right ear.

Of course I am not driving, recording and listening to music all at the same time.

There was always a problem with the sound quality of the video.

I think the voice quality was decreasing the whole quality of the videos.

I tried to order a device from abroad but it got cancelled, etc.

We had to evaluate the remedies we already had so we tried the earphones of Iphone.

We found out that its microphone records pretty well so we thought ''Why not?''

I'm recording my voice from these earphones right now. No one is telling me what to say from this earphone, or maybe I'm a secret agent.

We're on the road and of course there's traffic.

I hope there will be plenty of traffic so that we can talk a lot.

Today I will mention motivation, self-confidence, our spot in the society, maybe it's too general but

I will mention it more specifically.

In my previous video which is a Q&A, you can watch it from up here,

I received some questions about motivation.

After I realized that it's a very comprehensive topic, I asked you guys whether you would like me to make a separate video about this topic.

You guys wanted me to make a separate video so I asked you guys back on Instagram about what to mention exactly.

If you're not following me on Instagram, you can follow me and get involved in this type of interactions.

I asked you guys what you want me to mention and I received very nice topics.

You guys helped me out to determine a scheme to talk, thank you.

I divided the topic into branches a little bit.

I received questions about school the most.

Messages like ''I don't feel comfortable at school'', ''I hesitate to speak around people at school'', ''I don't feel confident'', ''I feel very afraid to get up on the board'' were pretty common.

There were also questions about the university exam.

There were lots and lots of questions so I wanted to cover that first.

Let's begin with the university preparation.

Of course the younger population feel under pressure while getting prepared to both high school and university.

This pressure is also related to examination psychology.

Of course after seeing everyone around you working very hard for this, it starts to effect you.

You get right into that atmosphere. The thing that everyone should accept from the very beginning is that:

Yes, this exam might be the first step leading to you dreams,

this exam may be very important to you but remember that you're not alone with this and

there are millions of people who are in the same conditions with you.

What does this mean? Well, if you look at it from a negative perspective, you start to think: Oh my God, I have lots of opponents.

But the thing that a person should question is what you give, sacrifice.

The person next to you may give much more than you but his life standards and conditions may be more appropriate than yours to do it.

Maybe you are busy with something else beside school. Maybe you're doing something else to improve yourself.

You may have given your best an you may have taken your best results

and it's okay. If someone else received better results than you

you need to stop comparing people to yourself.

Comparing yourself to someone else will always wear you down because

your potential is different than the person next to you.

Your goals should be based on your own best, to push yourself to the limits of your own potential.

Discovering your own potential.

The examination day might show up, there might be a huge pressure and fear on you which is totally okay,

you may end up not doing your best in the exam.

Preparing for another year really disrupt a lot of people but

it also stems from the perception, the perception around you.

Someone starts college but you have to get prepared again, etc.

Guys, it's totally okay. It's totally, totally okay.

After having to get prepared for one more year in order to reach to a point to get your life better

and if you have to work harder to get into a better college, there's no problem doing so.

Because, imagine starting to a college but you can do better than this or you started to a college that you didn't want.

There are much different dreams and goals you want to reach in the college you actually wanted to go.

Can't you wait for another year for that? Is it really that hard?

Do not try to reach to something you don't want.

Do not let people guide you. If the department you want to study is different than what your family wants you to study, stick to what you want.

Do what you want because college isn't as easy as they mention.

If you're not enjoying your department in university, it will demoralize you dramatically.

It will alienate you from school. Waiting and getting prepared for another year actually means

that you may not graduate in a university that you don't like in 4 years and end up graduating in up to 8 years.

Of course the examination season is a very stressful period, you are definitely right.

But don't internalize it and don't be left under anybody's pressure. Proceed as you want and after doing your best, don't keep forcing yourself.

Don't fatigue yourself in this way, we're all wasting ourselves in this path.

It's definitely not necessary, of course you realize it when you get through it but

maybe this monologue will help you make a better evaluation of that moment

because those times will not come back.

Of course study for your lessons but don't deprive yourself from life and do activities that will remain as good memories.

Another subject is about mode and energy. I received questions like ''How do you remain in a high mood all the time?'', ''How do you wake up so happy?''

Or ''How do you put yourself out of a bad mood?''

When I turn on the camera, I'm trying to reach the best mood of myself because

no one would like to listen to a person with a bad mood.

I wouldn't want to do that either if it's transferring me bad energy.

So what I'm aiming is yes, I am an energetic person in my daily life and sometimes I feel too hyped,

I feel so hyped that people around me be like ''What is going on?''

But I get down at the same speed. I get high very quick and I get low very quick either.

You know how to make yourself happy and you need to learn it yourself.

Just don't get stuck into something too much

I get stuck to everything too much but I slowly began to overcome it.

You know what? I'm telling you the simplest version.

Let's assume that I had an argument with someone and I'm mad at that person.

I'm done, I will overthink it again and again.

Then I ask myself ''Am I going to take this person out of my life?''

No. We had an argument with this person and some stuff happened.

This could also be your boyfriend by the way.

So what's going to happen, are we going to break up? No.

Is it a problem that will affect our relationship a lot or is it something that happened just for that moment?

It's just for that moment. Okay. I solved the problem in my head.

Sometimes we fight with Alp and suddenly start acting like nothing happened and Alp stares at my face like ''What happened?''

Because I got over with the problem. It's over in my head. What am I going to receive if I keep tripping for another 8 hours? Nothing.

So I just put my mood up and solved the problem in my head by myself just like I solved the problem with him.

I hype myself up like that. Other than that

at times in which I get low, I like getting through it.

If I'm depressed and if I'm not enjoying that moment, then I'm not.

I'm not forcing myself to enjoy that moment.

Especially at times in which people ask me ''What happened, are you okay?''

I say ''No, I'm just not enjoying it.''

So that's why, never hide your feelings.

Just express your dominant feeling at that moment.

When you start doing so, you will realize that you will start not to act fake and you will start not to be someone you are.

Once you are being yourself, there will be a smoother transition between your moods

and you start to have times with higher energy, lower energy and you start to be totally okay with it.

Also happiness shouldn't be tied up to very big things.

That is one of the things I can say about myself.

I get happy with very nonsense things like ''Wow, the sun is up,''

the sun going up is not nonsense in my opinion, by the way.

''Oh it's going to rain'', or ''Wow, a kitten'', etc.

My mood goes up suddenly. Why? Because I don't tie it up to very big things.

I look for small things in life and that helps me lift my mood up and make me happy.

It always helps me out in life.

So you can keep these in mind.

Another subject I want to mention based on the things you guys have asked:

What other people think of you.

The perceptions of people around you, their judgments

or always taking actions according to their thoughts.

Many people messaged me things like

''I'm obsessed with my weight'' or

''I can't focus on my own thoughts because I always think about other people's thoughts.''

There are always going to be people judging you.

There are always going to be people trying to pull you down.

It doesn't matter whether you reach a great number of people or a small group of friends or just your family.

Because whether we like it or not, family is also a community and your relatives take place in that community. There are plenty of people

that might judge you and that may consider your actions.

There's also not such a thing in my life like ''I don't care about anyone's ideas'', ''I don't care about anything'',

''Nobody in my family speaks about me, etc.''

No. Everyone says something, everyone says their ideas.

I occasionally listen to people's words.

But the important point here is, I don't lead my life according to these stuff.

No matter what condition you are in, whatever you are doing

there might be something in your mind about your physical attributes, it might be about your job, your school,

there will always be people watching and judging.

Because this is a feeling that comes inside of each person and we can't get rid of it.

It's just like something we gossip with our friends at a table.

This gossip may not be in a negative way, do not misunderstand me.

You might not like something someone did and you make a comment on it.

You might not think something someone did is right and make a comment on it because it's an attribute which we can't get rid of.

Whatever we do, it's going to be in out lives.

That's why we should always remember that what I say about someone does not affect their lives.

Let's assume that I did something and you guys commented your ideas about my action.

You made your comment, your ideas, your feelings but what changed in my life? Nothing.

Because I did it like that once

and it was presented as an output once.

But even though I did not ask for it, since I created that output into a common field, you found the right to express your ideas.

Just like you are in the same classroom with your classmates so that they might have opinions about you.

Since you are a member of your family, your relatives may have opinions about you.

I think these facts shouldn't be exaggerated and shouldn't be perceived as big problems.

Because as I said, we're living with people and since we are not living with 2 bugs and a dog in the nature

there will always be some people talking stuff about you.

Of course there is not 1 specific solution to this but according to me, the best solution is accepting.

Because we only get more sad and obsessed with something in life when we don't accept it.

When we accept something, it becomes easier to overcome. Just like ending friendships, relationships, new periods in life, etc.

These things are also related to this. You need to accept it and you need to be okay with people always saying something

but you must not lead your life according to these sayings.

You have a life and you are the person who is responsible to lead it.

People around you can only be factors to your life.

Because of the rumors that might break out, you become too afraid to express yourself and this is what actually harms you.

Don't hold yourself back from speaking and expressing your ideas when you are with other people.

By the way, there is no such a rule that everyone should express their ideas when they are with other people.

I don't like speaking in class either. I don't really like mentioning my knowledge.

I like keeping it to myself. You shouldn't yell out ''I know this, I know that'', etc.

There may be people doing that but it doesn't mean that you should also do the same.

There is also no such a thing that people who do it are more successful.

So just be like yourself and adapt it to your life without sacrificing from yourself.

Of course try to improve yourself but after presenting and doing your best, any other comments or things will start not to bother you.

Because after knowing who you are, what you do and how you want to do, what others say start not to matter.

After some point, you become nonchalant, this might be the best term I could use.

Until that point, you won't be able to help but listen, but this is a phase of growing.

I spoke a lot and I got thirsty after speaking this much.

I would also like to add that I felt a responsibility after receiving all those messages.

We are the ones who are doing this to people.

We are the ones who make people feel uncomfortable, inadequate, insecure, etc.

We are actually doing this to each other and we are receiving the consequences of our actions.

Because this is how it works, whatever you do comes back and finds you.

Even though we don't do it on purpose, we somehow still do it and

we all go through it afterwards. We need to be more supportive.

Rather than insulting this much and making such bad comments, we need to make more constructive comments rather than negative ones and help

people improve each other.

Maybe I'm only able to reach a small number of people but a change in 100.000 people's actions who watched this video is a big change

and as they said: The first step of changing is yourself.

The things I mentioned in this video are my own thoughts and feelings.

I'm not speaking here as a psychologist or a doctor.

I just want to share my ideas with people who are watching me. Please do not misunderstand anything.

These topics are very eligible for discussion.

I hope it was helpful to some of you guys and I hope it made you guys think about something.

I would be very happy if it did so.

I thank you guys again for asking me questions and helping me create a scheme about what to mention.

Your questions really helped me out.

We have reached to the end of this video. I hope it was helpful and I hope I was able to encourage you guys in some ways.

Since the traffic became pretty fluent, it's time to close the camera and end this monologue.

Kisses everyone, bye bye.

Whitney Sews 100k Subscriber Giveaway - Duration: 10:51.

hi everyone I am here today with a

really exciting video and that is

because on Saturday Whitney Sews reached

100,000 subscribers I am so excited I

have been looking forward to this for so

long and I wanted to thank every one of

you for subscribing for watching my

videos for sharing them for clicking

like and commenting and everything else

that you do to support my channel it has

been such an exciting time I started

this channel back in 2009 well I started

the channel before that but that's when

I started posting Whitney Sews content

and the very first video was made for a

school project for my final for video

production to I had to make a video that

showed my style as a director I didn't

really have a style as a director so I

kind of convinced my teacher that

instead I wanted to do a video that

showed how to create your own style and

she said it was okay so I created the

first Whitney Sews video which was a

t-shirt reconstruction I did two

different projects in it and you can

tell that video was really like scripted

and formal and everything because I was

trying to kind of present it as though

it was like a TV show and then as usual

I posted it on YouTube which I did with

all of my class projects and people

liked it I shared it on a t-shirt

reconstruction LiveJournal group that I

was in and everyone liked it so I

decided to make another video the next

week and I just kept making them and

it's been over nine years now and yeah I

posted weekly for over nine years I did

take a couple of short breaks in there

no longer than a month but yeah it's

been a very exciting journey so to

celebrate this I wanted to have a huge

giveaway this is the biggest giveaway

and that I have ever done so I want to

get right into showing you what is

going to be indie giveaway so first off

I did share a sneak peak of some of

these items a little while back but

first up is a set of four rulers from

Arteza these are the square rulers

they are in twelve and a half inches

nine and a half inches six inches and

four and a half inches so I love using

square rulers they are very handy for a

lot of different projects especially

squaring up quilt blocks so these are

really great and by the way I will have

links down below in the description box

so everything that I show that I can

find a link to I will have it down below

so if you want more details on anything

definitely check out those links down

there but yeah so four square rulers from

Arteza these were kindly sent by

the people at Arteza they provided

these for the giveaway which was so very

kind of them they also sent along a six

by twelve inch ruler this is a really

great size I don't have a ruler this

size and I wish I did

but I'm being nice and I'm including

this in the giveaway instead of keeping

it for myself so like I said those were

all sent by our Arteza which was super

nice I'm also including some things that

I purchased myself for the winner and

the first step is the fiskars basic a 45

millimeter rotary cutter I love this

rotary cutter I have one of them myself

in the blue and white design it's a

really just great basic rotary cutter

that I think works for everything so

there is that there is also my favorite

craft clips I use these so much so I

wanted to make sure to send along some

of my favorite supplies so that's why I

bought the rotary cutter the craft clips

a few other things because I want you

all to have the supplies that I love

using on a regular basis and that you

see in some of my videos so this is a

100 craft Clips so handy I use them for

sewing I also use them as chip clips in

the kitchen because you know chip clips

are necessary

but they are really great to have and

useful I also am including the memory

bear pattern that I love using this is

the simplicity it's so easy 2115 I

use this to make all my memory bears

I sell memory bears on the side I have a

separate business where I do that and

I've made tons of them and this is the

patterns that I use for all of them and

to go along with that you of course

cannot make memory bears without the

eyes and nose so I'm including 2 full

sets of eyes and nose for the memory

bears that you make from the pattern

these are the ones that I use for all of

my memory bears they are from Hobby

Lobby and I love them because they are

very reliable I don't have any problems

with the quality the backings are very

strong and once they are snapped

together they are a child safe and will

not come off I love the size of them and

everything like I said the links for

everything is down below in the

description box so check them out there

if you have been looking for eyes and

noses for your memory bears or other

stuffed animal projects i am also

including some thread this is the

Mettler polyester thread I've been using

this a ton lately I bought a huge

quantity of it and I really really liked

the quality of it so I'm passing some

along to the winner I forgot to show

with the rulers there is also some of

the non-slip adhesive that you can add

to the back of your ruler if you're

having trouble of it sliding around

while you're trying to cut with it you

can just add these onto the backing and

they will help your ruler stay in place

better so those were sent by Arteza as

well I also have a few zippers I am

throwing in it's just great to always

have some zippers on hand I got these

for a really good stock up price so I am

including some in the package then also

I am including something handmade

it is the Cheyenne rope bag that I made

a few months back this was a hugely

popular video and I have not actually

carried the bag yet and I thought you

know what instead of this sitting in my

sewing room any longer I'm going to go

ahead and pass it on to the winner of

this giveaway so the Cheyenne rope bag

plus the pattern in case you want to

make your own or if you want to pass the

pattern on to someone else you know will

be in the giveaway I love love love the

fabric of this bag but it is just not

the kind of bag that I really carry I

tend to carry actually a backpack I

carry a ton of stuff around for my kids

and all that and then when I'm not

carrying a backpack I have a little

vintage leather purse that I carry so

I hope the winner gets some use out

of this bag and loves it the last thing

I have to show is something really fun

it's actually a book that my friend

wrote as this book right here it's

called Rook and Shadow by my friend

Angela Marshall she wrote this book um

it took her a few years to write it so

while we were in college together I got

to read the proof of it and then I've

read the finished book a few times and

you may notice that's me on the cover we

did a little photo shoot my last year of

college and it ended up being part of

her cover design so it's just really fun

that I have a book that I am the cover

model of so I have a few copies of the

book so I wanted to give one copy away

there's even a little bookmark and

what's really cool about this is the

cover designs has actually changed now

there is a new cover on the book so this

is one of the limited copies with the

original cover design so not that many

people have this version of the book so

yeah I hope whoever wins this loves are

reading it and yeah it's just even

though it's been a few years it is still

so fun that I am on the cover of a book

that I own

that will never cease to like make me

happy but anyway that is everything that

I have to show for the giveaway I of

course will throw in some more extras I

do that with everything I like to add in

a little extra things while I'm

packaging it up and all of that so I'm

sure there will be more things in the

box when you receive it but that's

everything that I have collected up so

far yeah I am so excited about this like

I said this is the biggest giveaway that

I've ever done so to enter the giveaway

you have to be subscribed to Whitney Ses

VR180 Up-Close & Personal | Cirque du Soleil BAZZAR Aerial Rope Artist | IMMERCIRQUE Episode 1 - Duration: 7:12.

Hello everyone and welcome to ImmerCirque,

the first ever VR180 video by Cirque du Soleil.

My name is Lauren and I am an artist here at Cirque du Soleil

and I am a part of the brand-new show called BAZZAR.

Are you ready to immerse yourself in the world of Cirque du Soleil?

You will get more out of this video if you put on your VR headset.

You have your headset or your Google Cardboard ready?

No? Go get them and put them on, we'll wait for you.

For those of you who don't have a headset yet,

here's something to keep you entertained:

Jimmy and his friends.

Hello.

Hello.

Buenas.

1-2-3-4.

Well, merci Jimmy and…

very colourful friends and amazing costumes.

Thank you.

Ok.

So now let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I was born in Seattle,

I was a serious competitive swimmer,

competitive artistic gymnast, also the classical ballet and some hip-hop,

and I was striving and always searching for something else,

something I knew I wanted to kind of dedicate my life to.

I discovered circus and made the transition,

moved away from home

and for 12 years now I have been performing internationally

and I'm now currently at the international headquarters

of Cirque du Soleil in creation for BAZZAR.

Are you ready to join me as we dive into this wonderful world?

Come, follow me.

In BAZZAR, I am the principal female character,

the Floating Woman, which has been very fun for me to discover and create.

As well I will be performing a new solo rope act

and my makeup designer, Maryse, really gave me,

gave the Floating Woman a really beautiful look,

kind of simple, feminine,

edgy.

Her inspiration was a contemporary pin-up

which makes me very happy because I'm super obsessed with

all things pin-up.

Cool! So,

my makeup is done.

Now I got to put my wig on

to complete the look.

My specialty, which is vertical rope and in French we call "corde lisse,"

is a specialty I chose 12 years ago when I made the transition

from being a competitive gymnast and dancer to circus.

Rope was always something I loved and desired very much

even when people I remember told me to not choose it as a specialty

because they said "Oh, it's very old, it's not new, it's not interesting,

oh it's too difficult physically to make something interesting on it,"

but something in my body felt right when I did it

and something in my heart felt right as well.

It's an artistic and very physically rich experience for me

every time I'm on my specialty.

Now I got to go get changed and get ready to do some rope for you guys.

Floating Woman is really fun for me to play because she's really like me.

She's like Lauren but without a self-judgment,

Lauren in my playful mode, Lauren when I'm letting go,

and for sure in my rope it's Lauren in my special bubble.

- Hi, Lauren, how are you? - Hey, Maryse. Good, thank you.

- Don't forget your makeup session later on today.

- Ah, that's true, I won't forget that.

- Hi guys! - I need makeup on stage,

- Yes! - helps me get into character.

Everyone this is Maryse,

she has been a makeup artist and designer

with Cirque du Soleil for 16 years now

and she helped create my character, the look for my character.

You can watch Maryse on the ms mojo channel.

She has a lot of skills.

- Thanks, Lauren. - See you, ok.

- Bye, see you later, bye guys. - See you later.

Broken Link Building in Action (Strategies, Outreach Emails and Stats Revealed) - Duration: 12:45.

We talk about broken link building a lot. In videos, blog posts, and forums.

But does it really work?

You're about to find out in this video.

Stay tuned.

[music]

What's up SEOs. Sam Oh here with Ahrefs, the SEO tool that helps you grow your search traffic,

research your competitors and dominate your niche.

Now, I know that link building can be a huge struggle, especially for those of you that

are new to SEO, so I want to share one of my broken link building campaigns with you

step-by-step.

And rather than just showing you "results," I want to show you the exact prospecting techniques.

The exact emails that I sent, and a couple big mistakes that costed me really easy links.

So here's a quick overview:

The website that I built links for is a blog about natural health, more specifically in

the aromatherapy niche. And I bought this blog a few years ago and haven't really touched

it, outside of hiring some writers and fixing some critical technical SEO issues.

So let's get straight to it.

First, what is broken link building?

Broken link building is a tactic where you find a broken page with links pointing at

it, recreate a page on the same topic, then email everyone who's linking to the 404 page

and ask them to replace the dead link with yours.

Alright, so step one is to find a dead page that has links.

The easiest way to do it is to search in Site Explorer for a competing website that has

links.

So I'll do a search for a website in the aromatherapy niche.

Next, go to the "best by links" report, which ranks the pages that have the most links from

this domain.

Then use the "HTTP Code" filter and choose 404.

Now, you can see all of the dead pages on this domain and order it by the number of

referring domains in descending order to see which topics would be best to recreate.

Now, it's important to note that the number of backlinks that you'll find pointing at a dead

page will vary big time based on your industry.

So this report might not look that exciting with the top page having only 11 referring

domains, but that's a decent amount of broken links in the aromatherapy niche.

Now, if you're not sure which websites to look up, then just enter in your own domain

in Site Explorer.

And then go to the competing domains report.

Here, you can see a list of websites that rank in the top 10 for the same keywords as

your target domain.

In general, the more common keywords you have, the more relevant these websites will be to

the keywords you want to rank for.

From here, you would just search for each of these domains in Site Explorer, go to the

best by links report, and then filter for 404 pages as we did in the previous example.

Alright, so looking at the 404 pages in the Best By Links report, the one that interested

me the most was this one on diluting essential oils since I already had a post on the topic

that needed an update.

So let's look at the backlinks report for this page.

Here, you'll see that all of the links are 301 redirects done from a different domain,

which actually happened to be from a rebrand.

Now let's go a bit deeper through the rabbit hole.

If we click on the caret for this page, you'll see that the original page had 47 referring

domains before the improper redirect was done.

Bingo.

So from here, I went to the backlinks profile and moved on to the next step, which is to

check whether the broken page is a good fit and to qualify worthy link prospects.

Here's the thing:

If you start blindly emailing all of these people without fully knowing what the page

was about before, then your chances of getting a link decreases significantly, not to mention

a whole lot of wasted time.

So first, we need to understand what was on that page before, and then get a grasp for the

context of the links, so that it actually makes sense to contact our link prospects.

You can see the content that was on the page when it was live by clicking on the caret

beside the dead URL, and then click "view on Archive.org."

Now, don't copy the content on this page. Instead, look at some of the key points that

were covered and the angle they took.

And from the looks of it, this article talked about dilution ratios and conversions for

the most part, which would be easy to recreate.

So since this content is a good fit, I'll actually narrow down our list by changing

the "Link Type" filter to "DoFollow," which will show us only the value passing links.

Next, I'll order the data in descending order by "Traffic."

And what this does is it puts our "best" link prospects at the top of the list, and the

quality of the links will usually deteriorate as you scroll further down the list.

So you can see here that all of these posts seem like editorial opportunities, which is

a good thing.

And as we near the bottom of the list, you'll see a forum link, and a bunch of blogspot

posts, which I would personally weed out in my qualification process.

You could also sort this by "Referring Domains," instead of traffic, if that's what you prefer.

So everything looks good, so I'll export the backlinks report.

Now the next part is arguably the most important. And that's to look at the context of the link,

meaning, why are these websites linking to this page in the first place?

You can do that simply by scanning the anchors and backlink column for your list of qualified

prospects, which is basically telling you key points to include in your post.

So yes, we can create a "handy guide," create a part on the different ratios for children

and adults, talk about proper dilution and include a chart, and maybe even mention that

people should use one to two drops per 10ml of carrier oil.

From here, you would need to remove any pages from your backlinks export to have a clean

list of link prospects.

Alright, so now we have the two main parts that we need for a successful broken link

building campaign.

#1. We have the key points that we need to add in our article, which I actually sent to my writer.

And again, this will make link acquisition much more probable.

And #2, you should have manually gone through the list of linking pages and removed all

URLs that weren't qualified as good link prospects.

And I ended up with around 17 qualified link prospects after weeding out pages from the

original backlinks export.

Let's move on to the part that's going to make or break your broken link building campaign.

And that's outreach.

There are three steps to outreach.

First, you need to find the email address of your prospects, next is to craft an email, and

the final step is one that I'll touch on in a bit, because it's one of the main reasons

why so many link building campaigns fail.

Before we tackle each step, let's use this spreadsheet, which I've left a link to in

the description so you can download it and use it for your own link building campaign.

Once you open the Google Sheet, click on file, make a copy and then click ok to save it to

your Google drive so you can edit your own copy.

Alright, so the first step is to import your clean list of backlinks, so click on the Ahrefs

Import tab.

Then, click on file, import, upload, and then drag and drop your clean list there.

Since we're using just a single report, you can select, "Replace current sheet," then

click "import data."

After your import is complete, go back to the first tab and you'll see some key metrics

as well as the referring page URL.

Now, let's go to the first linking page.

And you can see right away, that this website seems to be from a single author blogger named

Lindsey.

So, I'll add her name to the spreadsheet.

Next, we need to find her email address. The tool that I primarily use is hunter.io.

They have a Chrome extension, so you can see that it's lit up orange, which means that

they have some email addresses on file for this domain.

So I'll click that, and you can see the email addresses that Hunter has scraped.

Now, you want to choose the most appropriate email address.

So for small companies, it would likely be the author or founder. And for mid-sized and

large companies like Ahrefs or Whole Foods, that would be someone like the editor or content

marketing manager.

So I'll quickly added Lindsey's email address to the spreadsheet and you would just need

to do this for all of the different URLs in this list.

Alright, now we need to actually craft an email that will hopefully result in a link

back to our site.

Now, when you're writing your email, I want you to keep these two things in mind.

So first, you want to sound as organic as possible. So to start, address them by their first name

and use natural, conversational language.

So you don't want to say something as robotic as

"Hello Webmaster,

Your website has a broken link and it may be a good idea to fix it. Here s a good link

to do it with.

Instead, you want to somehow connect with them in the first sentence if possible. So

take the extra minute to get to know a thing or two about the person you're contacting.

Since Lindsey has a short profile in the sidebar, I know that she is into holistic living and

loves food.

Cool! Me too!

So I might start off with:

Hi Lindsey,

My name is Sam a fellow holistic foody :)

Next, you'll want to tell them why you're contacting them. So I might say something like...

I'm emailing you because I clicked on one of your links to Lea Harris' blog in your

"Natural Remedies For Ear Infections" post and it looks like she deleted it.

Thought you might want a friendly heads-up to remove/update this part.

Now the key part about the line above is that I'm, saying that she can remove it or update

it. Not just update it.

Next, we want to pitch our resource, so let's continue.

If you're open to suggestions for a replacement, I recently created a handy (yet comprehensive)

guide on how to dilute essential oils safely; and then with a link, (peer reviewed by a clinical

aromatherapist).

Again, I'm not being pushy, but I'm making my intention clear of why I'm contacting her.

And a couple advanced tips in this line would be to use the language they use.

So if we look back at our spreadsheet, then you'll see that the link anchor was, "handy

guide," which is why she gave the link in the first place.

I've also added an additional qualification as to why my article is worth linking to by

mentioning that it was peer reviewed by a clinical aromatherapist.

Now, let's finish the email.

No pressure at all. Just thought you might be interested in an up-to-date article.

Either way, I'm glad to have found your blog! I've already shared it with a few other writer

friends in our Facebook group :)

Warmest, Sam

Now, a quick disclaimer:

Don't say that you love their blog if you haven't taken a second to read through their

content. I actually did share their post with a few other writer friends.

Finally, let's put the icing on the cake and offer more value.

PS. If you ever need a hand with anything, i.e shares, feedback, or whatever, I'm always

happy to help. :)

Sounds like a pretty solid and kind email right?

Well, there are two key points that I missed here, which led to above average results, but nothing

extraordinary.

So from the 32 emails that I sent, 7 responded and 6 linked. That's an 18.75% conversion rate,

which is quite good, although the sample size is small.

But want to know what more than doubled my conversions?

Two things:

First, add a screenshot of where the broken link is.

So let's modify our original email a little bit and add, "Here's a screenshot of where

I found it:"

And the final touch is to add one follow-up email to those who don't respond after a reasonable

amount of time.

Again, we want to sound as natural as possible. So don't say, "this is the last time I'll

be contacting you, so I wanted to see if you got my last email."

Instead, offer up more value.

So you might say something like,

Hi again! We were just setting up our Pinterest share queue (30,000+ followers) and it reminded

me of your ear infection remedies article that would make a perfect fit for our Holistic

Living board.

Just wanted to check-in and see if this is the best one to add, or if you have another

that would be a better fit.

Warmest, Sam

And boom. Check this out.

From the next 20 emails I sent, 7 people responded. And of the people who responded, all 7 linked

to the article and 2 people actually linked to the page without responding to the initial

email, which I of course knew because of Ahrefs Backlinks Alerts.

So a total of 9 out of 20 new links, which is a 45% conversion rate.

Now, let's do the math.

So with a total of 52 emails sent, my broken link building campaign came in with 15 links,

which is a 28.8% overall conversion rate, which is an A+ in my books.

Now, all of the emails that I sent weren't for the dilution guide, but the result was

a number one organic ranking position for my target keyword.

Now, it's important to note that your results will vary. I've seen significantly lower conversion

rates in different niches and even on different topics.

Also, if your content isn't pitch worthy, then I recommend making sure that it's top-notch

before sending emails because you'll likely burn through a lot of perfectly good link

prospects. Finally, I want to make one quick note on scaling this process.

Everything that I just showed you can be outsourced.

But certain tasks like link prospecting, and responding to emails may be parts that you

want to handle yourself until you find someone with the right skillset to take care of it.

For example, you can get people to fill in names and email addresses for anywhere between

3-10 cents per contact. So you can find freelancers on Upwork or another one that I've had decent

results with is Mechanical Turk.

So in this particular case, I think I paid under $3 for the 50 or so contact details,

which saved me quite a bit of time.

For the outreach step, you can use tools like Buzzstream, Mailshake, or PitchBox to send

mass emails, while still personalizing them using merge tags.

So I'm sure you can see why we love broken link building, right? From my experience, this is the easiest

and most effective tactic to get high quality backlinks to your website with as little effort

as possible.
